      • Detection and Classification of Pills Moving at a Very High Speed Using a Bi-IV2 Vision System

Thi Thanh Quyen Bui,Thuong Cat Pham,Keum-Shik Hong 제어로봇시스템학회 2008 제어로봇시스템학회 국제학술대회 논문집 Vol.2008 No.10

In this paper, a novel class of information?rocessing systems called Cellular Neural Networks (CNNs) is overviewed. The CNN provides solutions to some real-life problems which are difficult or time-consuming for classical digital computers. The CNN has emerged as a powerful and practically realizable paradigm of multidimensional, locally connected, nonlinear processor arrays. We will introduce a brief concept, mathematical description of CNN, and develop an application of CNN in the ultra-high frame-rate image processing: detection and classification of pills moving at a very high speed using the Bi-IV2 vision system. We also show you our experiment setup in the laboratory, and then experimental results are introduced. The classification is based on the size and shape parameters of different pills and possible missing parts are identified. The implementation of pills classification algorithm runs on Bi-IV2, the program to be run on Bi-IV2 is loaded over Ethernet, and the host computer PC can write/read data to/from the Bi-IV2 over Ethernet.

Thread-embedding acupuncture may improve symptom resolution in patients with gastroesophageal reflux disease: A randomized controlled trial

        Trinh Dieu-Thuong Thi,Tran An Hoa,Bui Minh-Man Pham,Vuong Nguyen Lam 한국한의학연구원 2023 Integrative Medicine Research Vol.12 No.3

Background: Various traditional medicine treatments have been investigated to treat GERD. Among those, thread-embedding acupuncture (TEA) has the advantage that patients need to undergo the procedure infrequently; however, its efficacy is unclear. This study evaluated the efficacy of TEA in treating GERD. Methods: A randomized controlled trial was conducted with 66 participants with GERD: 33 received two sessions of TEA + standard therapy (proton-pump inhibitor [PPI]) (TEA+PPI group) and 33 received PPI alone (PPI group). Primary outcomes included GerdQ score and heartburn and regurgitation resolution. Secondary outcomes were antacids requirement, the Frequency Scale for Symptoms of GERD (FSSG) score, and Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease-Health Related Quality of Life (GERD-HRQL) score. The safety outcome was adverse events (AEs). Results: After four weeks of treatment, the TEA+PPI group significantly reduced the GerdQ score (mean difference [MD] and 95% confidence interval [CI]: -1.8 [-2.4, -1.1]) and increased the rate of heartburn and regurgitation resolution compared to PPI (54.5% versus 9.1%, respectively) compared to PPI. The TEA+PPI group also significantly reduced the number of antacid packs used (MD [95%-CI]: -9.4 [-12.1, -6.7]), FSSG score (MD [95%-CI]: -9.4 [-11.0, -7.8]), and GERD-HRQL score (MD [95%-CI]: -5.6 [-7.7, -3.5]) compared to PPI. Five patients experienced AEs, which were mild local complications at the acupoints. Conclusion: TEA combined with PPI is more effective than PPI alone in treating GERD. Further studies with longer follow-ups are required to confirm these findings.

      • Redox-Driven Route for Widening Voltage Window in Asymmetric Supercapacitor

Sahoo, Ramkrishna,Pham, Duy Tho,Lee, Tae Hoon,Luu, Thi Hoai Thuong,Seok, Jinbong,Lee, Young Hee American Chemical Society 2018 ACS NANO Vol.12 No.8

<P>Although aqueous asymmetric supercapacitors are promising technologies because of their high-energy density and enhanced safety, their voltage window is still limited by the narrow stability window of water. Redox reactions at suitable electrodes near the water splitting potential can increase the working potential. Here, we demonstrate a kinetic approach for expanding the voltage window of aqueous asymmetric supercapacitors using <I>in situ</I> activated Mn3O4 and VO2 electrodes. The underlying mechanism indicates a specific potential of ∼1 V <I>vs</I> Ag/AgCl for the oxidation of Mn4+-to-Mn7+ at the positive electrode and ∼ -0.8 V <I>vs</I> Ag/AgCl for the reduction of V3+-to-V2+ at the negative electrode, which limits oxygen and hydrogen evolution reactions, respectively. The as-fabricated aqueous asymmetric supercapacitor exhibited a working voltage of 2.2 V with a high-energy density of 42.7 Wh/kg and a power density of ∼1.1 kW/kg. This mechanism improves the voltage window and energy and power densities.</P> [FIG OMISSION]</BR>

        Lipoxygenase Inhibitory Constituents from Rhubarb

        Tran Minh Ngoc,Pham Thi Hong Minh,Tran Manh Hung,IkSoo Lee,민병선,Phuong Thien Thuong,배기환 대한약학회 2008 Archives of Pharmacal Research Vol.31 No.5

Phytochemical study on the ethanol extract of rhubarb led to the isolation of fifteen compounds, including five anthraquinones: chrysophanol (1), physcion (2), emodin (7), chrysophanol- 8-O-β-D-glucopyranoside (9) and emodin-8-O-β-D-glucopyranoside (15), and ten stilbenes: desoxyrhaponticin (3), rhaponticin (4), resveratrol (5), desoxyrhapotigenin (6), rhapontigenin (8), piceatannol-3'-O-β-D-glucopyranoside (10), piceid (11), ε -viniferin (12), ampelopsin B (13) and isorhaponticin (14). Their structures were identified by comparing the physicochemical data with those of published papers. Among the isolated compounds, stilbene derivatives (3-6, 8 and 10-14) showed remarkable inhibitory effect on lipoxygenase with IC50 values ranging from 6.7 to 74.1 μM. The inhibition kinetics analyzed by Lineweaver-Burk plots found that they were competitive inhibitors with the linoleic acid at the active site of lipoxygenase. In addition, stilbenes exhibited significantly free radical scavenging activity against ABTS•+ with trolox equivalent activity capacity (TEAC) values ranging from 1.16 to 4.64. Whereas, anthraquinone derivatives (1-2, 7, 9 and 15) neither inhibited lipoxygenase nor scavenged free radical ABTS•+. These results indicated that stilbene derivatives were considerate to be mainly lipoxygenase inhibitor and free radical scavenger constituents of rhubarb.

The Effect of Non-Audit Services on Auditor Independence: Evidence from Vietnam

DOAN, Nga Thanh,PHAM, Cuong Duc,NGUYEN, Thuong Thi Uyen,VU, Mai Phuong,PHAM, Lam Ha Korea Distribution Science Association 2020 The Journal of Asian Finance, Economics and Busine Vol.7 No.12

Independence is a factor which has a significant impact on auditing quality, especially in the recent times where the marketplace is increasingly demanding transparency. The independence of auditors is assessed based on the main criteria such as the reliability of the audit opinions, the accuracy, truthfulness of financial reports, and the objectivity in the opinions of the auditor. The study investigates the effects of non-audit services (NAS) on auditor independence in emerging economies such as Vietnam. Non-audit services include taxation services, management advisory services and outsourcing internal audit services. Based on previously relevant researches, the authors develop hypotheses and a regression model about non-audit services (independent variables) and audit independence (dependent variable). The research collects data by 5-scale Likert questionnaire. The findings indicate the relationship between NAS and auditor independence. Specifically, the results reveal two main factors that have influence on auditor independence, namely, taxation services and management advisory services. The results of our research can be considered as new findings and can be compared to previous researches in Vietnam, which establishes a new viewpoint about the relationship between the NAS and the independence of the auditor. This result can be implemented for countries or jurisdictions which are similar to Vietnam.

      • Fast-Charging High-Energy Battery-Supercapacitor Hybrid: Anodic Reduced Graphene Oxide-Vanadium(IV) Oxide Sheet-on-Sheet Heterostructure

Sahoo, Ramkrishna,Lee, Tae Hoon,Pham, Duy Tho,Luu, Thi Hoai Thuong,Lee, Young Hee American Chemical Society 2019 ACS NANO Vol.13 No.9

<P>The battery-supercapacitor hybrid (BSH) device has potential applications in energy storage and can be a remedy for low-power batteries and low-energy supercapacitors. Although several studies have investigated electrode materials (particularly for a battery-type anode material) and design for BSHs, the energy density and power density are insufficient (far from the levels required for practical applications). Herein, a hierarchical vanadium(IV) oxide on reduced graphene oxide (rGO@VO2) heterostructure as an anode and activated carbon on carbon cloth (AC@CC) as a cathode are proposed for fabricating an advanced BSH. The mixed valency of V ions inside the as-prepared VO2 matrix (V3+ and V4+) facilitates redox reactions at a low potential, giving rise to rGO@VO2 as a typical anode with a working potential of 0.01-3 V (<I>vs</I> Li/Li+). The sheet-on-sheet heterostructured rGO@VO2 yields a high specific capacity of 1214 mAh g-1 at 0.1 A g-1 after 120 cycles, with a high rate capability and stability. The rGO@VO2//AC@CC BSH device exhibits a maximum gravimetric energy density of 126.7 Wh kg-1 and a maximum gravimetric power density of ∼10 000 W kg-1 within a working voltage range of 1-4 V. Moreover, it exhibits fast charging times of 5 and 834 s with energy densities of 15.6 and 82 Wh kg -1, respectively.</P> [FIG OMISSION]</BR>

Factors Affecting Infrastructure Connectivity: An Indian and Vietnamese Perspective

Thuy T.Dang,Nguyen Le Thy Thuong,Pham Thuy Nguyen 한국외국어대학교 인도연구소 2021 남아시아연구 Vol.27 No.3

Infrastructure connectivity plays an important role in Vietnam and India’s trade promotion, and international economic development and cooperation. Vietnam and India have become comprehensive strategic partners since 2016. In its “Act East” Policy, India considered Vietnam as a crucial destination for infrastructure development, trading and investment projects as well as a bridge to connect India with the Southeast Asia region. The article presents direct factors affecting infrastructure connectivity between India and Vietnam, in different aspects including geography and nature; politics and diplomacy; finance and economics; institutional policies and regulations; society and people; and infrastructure. From analyzing these factors, it can be seen that the harmonious diplomatic relations, stable internal politics and the increase in cooperation between Vietnam and India in various fields contribute to ensuring Vietnam - India infrastructure connectivity cooperation. A young, highly skilled workforce and a strong culture of integration also create favorable conditions for infrastructure connectivity between the two countries. However, the remote geographical distance, the limited economic resources, the relative disparity in the level of development of hard and soft infrastructure as well as the limited institutional capacity of each country create certain barriers. Due to the delay in decision-making and planning between the two countries, no direct projects between the two countries have been implemented so far. Currently, it is only possible to place the Vietnam - India infrastructure connectivity projects in the ASEAN - India infrastructure connectivity network, but most of these projects also stop at drafting and planning phase. Therefore, the infrastructure connectivity between Vietnam and India needs to overcome many barriers to achieve certain results.

      • A Matching Strategy to Recognize Occluded Number

        최형일(Hyung-Il Choi),김계영(Gye-Young Kim),Thi Thuong Pham 한국컴퓨터정보학회 2011 한국컴퓨터정보학회 학술발표논문집 Vol.19 No.1

This paper proposes a method of occluded number recognition by matching interest points. Interest points of input pattern are found via SURF features extracting and matched to interest points of clusters in database following three steps: SURF matching, coordinate matching and SURF matching on coordinate matched points. Then the satisfied interest points are counted to compute matching rate of each cluster. The input pattern will be assigned to cluster having highest matching rate. We have experimented our method to different numerical fonts and got encouraging results.
