Even though appropriate immune response is necessary for the survival of the individual, excessive or insufficient immune Response might cause autoimmune of allergic disease, So the immune response must be controlled to the degree. that is beneficial for the well being of the individual. This study was undertaken to know the effects of Gunleetang Gagambang on the immune system of the mouse. Gunteelane Gagambang has been used for cure of tumor as a traditional medicine without any experimental evidence to support the rational basis for its clinical use. This study was carried out to evaluated the possible therapeutic or antitumoral effects of Gunleetang Gagamvang extract against tumor, and to carry out some mechanisms responsible for its effect. Some kinds of tumor were induced by the typical application of 3-mehtylcholanthrene(MCA) or by the implantation(S.C) of malignant tumor cells such as leukemia cells(3LL cells) or sarcoma cells(SI80 cells). Treatment of the Gunleetang Gagamvang on water-extract(dailly lmg/mouse, i. p.) was continued for 7 days prior to tumor induction and after that the treatment was lasted for 20 days. Against squamous cell carcinoma induced by MCA, Gunleetang Gagambang decreased not only the frequency of tumor production but also the number and the weight of tumors per tumor bearing mice(TBM). Gunleetang Gagamvang on also significantly suppressed the development of 3LL cell and SI80 cell-implanted tumors in occutence=frequency and their size, and some developed tumors were regressed by the continuous treatment of Gunleetang Gagambang extract into TBM. In vitro, treatment of Gunleetang Gagambang also stimulated the migrative ability of leukocyte, the MIF and IL. 2. production of T lymphocytes, but not IL 6 production of B cells. Gunleetang Gagamvang administration to mice enhanced NK cells activities. These results demonstrated that Gunleetang Gagabang extrat exhibited a significant prophylactic benefits against tumors and its antitumor activity was manitested depending on the type of tumor cells. And these results also suggested that effect of Gunleetang Gagambang might be chiefly due to nonspccific enhancement of NK cell activities and cell-mediated immune responses.

The objective of this study was to investigate the water quality and status of water pollution in the lakes around Hanyang University (Ansan campus). Water quality was determined by monitoring water temperature, pH, chemical oxygen demand(CODMn), total nitrogen (T-N), total Phosphorus (T-P), suspended solids (SS), heavy metals (Zn, Cd, Pb, Cu, As, Cr(VI) and Hg). The level of water quality of lakes was lower than the level V estimated by the Enviroment Ministry. All of the reserviors around Hanyang University (Ansan campus) had been already seriously polluted by inflow of wastewater from residents, animal husbandries and industries. However, heavy metal pollution was not observed. It is recommended to establish plans for water quality improvement for the reserviors around Hanyang University before it gets worse.

Alismatis rhizoma (AR), the dried rhizome of Alisma orientale (Sam.) Juzep, is a well-known, traditional medicine that is used for the various biological activities including as a diuretic, to lower cholesterol and as an anti-inflammatory agent. The present study was carried out to investigate the potential toxicity of the Alismatis rhizoma aqueous extract (ARAE) following 90-day repeated oral administration to Sprague-Dawley rats. ARAE was administered orally to male and female rats for 90 days at 0 (control), 500, 1,000 and 2,000 mg/kg/day (n = 10 for male and female rats for each dose). Additional recovery groups from the control group and high dose group were observed for a 28-day recovery period. Chromatograms of ARAE detected main compounds with four peaks. Treatment-related effects including an increase in the red blood cells, hemoglobin, hematocrit, albumin, total protein, and urine volume were observed in males of the 2,000 mg/kg/day group (p < 0.05). However, the diuretic effect of ARAE was considered, a major cause of hematological and serum biochemical changes. The oral no-observed-adverse-effect level (NOAEL) of the ARAE was > 2,000 mg/kg/day in both genders, and no target organs were identified.

Spermatogonial stem cells are self-renewal and differentiate into sperm in post-pubertal mammals. There exists a balance between the self-renewal and differentiation in the testes. Spermatogonial stem cells make up only 0.03% of testicular cells in adult mice. These cells maintain sperm production by differentiating after puberty. Therefore, analyzing the expression of genes associated with spermatogenesis is critical for understanding differentiation. The present study aimed to establish the postnatal period of cells in relation to spermatogenesis. To study the expression of differentiated and undifferentiated marker genes in enriched spermatogonial stem cells, in vitro culture was performed and cells from pup (6–8-day-old) and adult (4-months-old) testicular tissues were isolated. As a result, undifferentiated genes, Pax7, Plzf, GFRa1, Etv5 and Bcl6b , were highly increased in cultured spermaotogonial stem cells compared with pup and adult testicular cells. On the other hands, differentiated gene, c-kit was highly increased in adult testicular cells, Also Stra8 gene was highly increased in pup and adult testicular cells. This study provides a better understanding of spermatogenesis-associated gene expression during postnatal periods.

Background/Aims: Pancreatic pseudocysts are caused by complications of patients with pancreatitis or pancreatic trauma including recent surgery. Asymptomatic pseudocysts require no treatment, but symptomatic pseudocysts should be decompressed. The management options include endoscopic, radiologic, surgical, and conservative treatment. Among these treatment, EUS-guided internal drainage is widely reported in multiple series, representing the experience of tertiary centers with special expertise. However, EUS-guided endoscopic drainage of post-operative pancreatic pseudocyst has not been reported as yet. We present a case of successful EUS-guided transgastric drainage of pancreatic pseudocyst complicated by distal pancreatectomy. Case: A 52-year-old man complained intermittent epigastric pain associated with dyspepsia during last 3 weeks. He had undergone distal pancreatectomy under the diagnosis of a pancreatic mucinous cystadenoma 4 months ago. The abdominal CT and MRI showed a 4.5×5.3 cm sized pseudocyst as the distal pancreatectomy sis and unclear communication with pancreatic duct. Transgastric drainage was performed by using linear array EUS. The cystotome dilator (Wilson Cook, Winston-Salem, NC, USA) was used to electrosurgically cannulate the gastric wall into a pancreatic pseudocyst and 10F double-pigtail plastic stent was placed through the cannulated channel. The drained fluid was dark brown color. Follow-up CT scan showed completely collapsed pseudocyst and the pigtail catheter was removed. At 6 months follow-up, there was no radiologic evidence of cystic recurrence and subjective symptom. Conclusions: With the advancement of EUS, endoscopic drainage of pancreatic pancreatic pseudocyst is an alternative to surgery because of its safety and efficacy. As our case, in the patient with post-operative pancreatic pseudocyst, EUS-guided internal drainage is very effective as a fist line therapy.
