        Many synthetic bone materials have been studied for their potential of regenerative effects in periodontal tissue. Safflower seeds have been traditionally used as a drug for the treatment of fracture and blood stasis in oriental medicines. The purpose of this study was to assess and compare the osseous responses in rat calvarial defects between bone substitutes such as calcium carbonate and bovine-derived hydroxyapatite and feeding of safflower seeds. The calvarial defects were made with 8㎜ trephine bur in 24 Sprague-Dawley rats. Two graft materials were implanted in each experimental groups, whereas the control and safflower seed feeding groups were sutured without any other treatment. And then the rats of safflower seed feeding group were supplied with 3 g/day of safflower seeds. Each group was sacrificed at 4 weeks and 8 weeks. To study a histopathology related to bone healing and regeneration, Goldner's Masson Trichrome stain was done at each weeks. The tissue response was evaluated under light microscope. There were more osteoblastic activity, new bone formation, dense bony connective tissues in bovine-derived hydroxyapatite group compared to other groups at 8 weeks. The osseous defect area of safflower seed feeding group was filled with prominent fibrous tissues, where less inflammatory infiltration and new capillary proliferation. In the early phase of bone healing, safflower seed feeding reduces the inflammatory response and promotes the proliferation of connective tissue. These results suggest that natural bovine-derived HA and safflower seed feeding could enhance the regenerative potential in periodontal defects.

        Effects of Modified Low-dye Taping and Foot Intrinsic Muscle Strengthening Exercise on Plantar Pressure in Flexible Flat Foot

        This study aimed to identify the effects of modified low-dye taping and foot intrinsic muscle strengthening exercise on foot pressure in people with flat feet. The subjects were 12 participants with flat feet in their 20s. They were randomly divided into two groups: taping and strengthening exercise. They performed the interventions twice a week for six weeks. The taping group was applied the modified low-dye taping. The exercise group was performed foot intrinsic muscle strengthening exercise for 30 minutes. The data were measured by Foot Pressure Measurement. There was no significant difference in plantar pressure between taping group and exercise group. There was also no significant difference in all variables before and after intervention in all groups. The present study suggests that taping and exercise can change the foot pressure in patients with flat-footed.

        Low-dye 테이핑과 발 내재근육 강화 운동을 적용한 편평발을 가진 20대 성인의 하지 근육활성도 비교 연구

        본 연구의 목적은 편평발을 가진 자를 대상으로 Low-dye 테이핑과 발 내재근육 강화 운동이 한 발 서기 동안 앞정강근, 장딴지근, 긴종아리근의 근육활성도에 미치는 영향을 알아보고자 실시하였다. 대상자는 편평발을 가진 20대 성인 16명이며, Low-dye 테이핑(LTG; n=8) 및 발 내재근육 강화 운동(FSG; n=8) 그룹으로 나누었다. 각 그룹은 해당되는 중재를 주 2회 6주간 실시하였다. 앞정강근, 긴종아리근 및 안쪽 장딴지근의 근육 활성도를 측정하였다. 중재 전·후 근육활성도의 변화를 비교하기 위하여 반복된 이원 배치 분산분석을 실시하였다. 근육활성도 측정 결과, LTG에서는 모든 근육에서 실험 전·후 사이에 유의하게 감소하였다(p<.05). FSG에서는 실험 전·후 사이에 앞정강근에서만 유의하게 감소하였다(p<.05). 따라서, Low-dye 테이핑과 발 내재근 육강화 운동은 편평발 환자에게 효율적인 하지 근육 활동에 도움이 될 것이다. The purpose of this study was to investigate effect of low-dye taping and foot intrinsic muscle strengthening exercise on the muscle activity of the tibialis anterior, calf muscles, and long calf muscles during one-foot standing in subjects with flat feet. The subjects were 16 adults in their 20s with flat feet, and they were divided into low-dye taping (LTG; n=8) and foot intrinsic muscle strengthening exercise (FSG; n=8) groups. Each group underwent the appropriate intervention twice a week for 6 weeks. The muscle activity of the tibialis anterior, long calf muscle, and medial calf muscle was measured. Repeated two-way ANOVA was performed to compare changes in muscle activity before and after the intervention. As a result of muscle activity measurement, LTG significantly decreased between before and after the experiment in all muscles (p<.05). In FSG, only the tibialis anterior significantly decreased between before and after the experiment (p<.05). Therefore, low-dye taping and foot intrinsic muscle strengthening exercises will be helpful for efficient the lower extremity muscle activity of flat foot.

        군리탕가감방(君理湯加減方)이 항종양(抗腫瘍) 면역반응(免疫反應)과 항암제로 유발(誘發)한 부작용(副作用)에 미치는 영향(影響)

        Even though appropriate immune response is necessary for the survival of the individual, excessive or insufficient immune Response might cause autoimmune or allergic disease. So the immune response must be controlled to the degree that is beneficial for the well being of the individual. This study was undertaken to know the effects of Gunleetang Gagambang on the immune system of the mouse. Gunleetang Gagambang has been used for cure of tumor as a traditional medicine without any experimental evidence to support the rational basis for its clinical use. This study was carried out to evaluate the possible therapeutic or antitumoral effects of Gunleetang Gagambang extract against tumor, and to carry out some mechanisms responsible for its effect. Some kinds of tumor were induced by the typical application of 3-methylcholanthrene(MCA) or by the implantation(s.c) of malignant tumor cells such as leukemia cells(3LL cells) or sarcoma cells(S180 cells). Treatment of the Gunleetang Gagambang on water-extract(dailly 1mg/mouse, i. p.) was continued for 7 days prior to tumor induction and after that the treatment was lasted for 20 days. Against squamous cell carcinoma induced by MCA, Gunleetang Gagambang decreased not only the frequency of tumor production but also the number and the weight of tumors per tumor bearing mice(TBM). Gunleetang Gagambang on also significantly suppressed the development of 3LL cell and S180 cell-implanted tumors in occurrence-frequency and their size. and some developed tumors were regressed by the continuous treatment of Gunleetang Gagambang extract into TBM. In vitro, treatment of Gunleetang Gagambang extract had no effect on the growth of some kinds of cell line such as FsaII, A431 strain but significantly inhibited the proliferation of 3LL, S180 cells and augmented the DNA synthesis of mitogen-activated lymphocytes. Gunleetang Gagambang also stimulated the migrative ability of leukocyte, the MIF and IL-2 production of T lymphocytes, but not IL 6 production of B cells. Gunleetang Gagambang administration to mice enhanced NK cells activities. These results demonstrated that Gunleetang Gagambang extract exhibited a significant prophylactic benefits against tumors and its antitumor activity was manifested depending on the type of tumor cells. And these results also suggested that effect of Gunleetang Gagambang might be chiefly due to nonspecitie enhancement of NK cell activities and cell-mediated immune responses.

        Cisplatin에 의한 뇌세포사멸에서 補中免疫丹의 방어효과

        This study was designed to investigate the protective effect of Bojungmyunyuk-dan(BJMY-Dan) on the cisplatin-induced cytotoxicity of primary rat astrocytes. BJMY-Dan is an oriental herbal prescription for its ability to recover protectve effects against anti-cancer chemotherapies. After astrocytes were treated cisplafin, MTT assay was performed for cell viability test. To explore the mechanism of cytotoxicity, I used the several measures of apoptosis to determine whether this processes was involved in cisplatin-induced cell damage in astrocytes. AJso, astrocytes were treated with BJMY-Dan and then, followed by the addition of cisplatin. Cisplatin decreased the viability of astrocytes in a dose and time-dependent manner. BJMY-Dan increased the viability of astrocytes treated cisplatin. Astrocytes treated cisplatin were revealed as apoptosis characterized by nuclear staining and flow cytometry. BJMY-Dan protected astrocytes from cisplatin-induced nuclear fragmentation and chromatin condensation. Also, caspase-3 and caspase-9 proteases were activated in astrocytes by cisplatin. BJMY-Dan inhibited the activation of caspase proteases in cisplatin-treated astrocytes. Cleavage of [poly(ADP-ribose) polymerase](PARP) was occurred at 12hr after treatment of cisplatin in astrocytes. BJMY-Dan recovered the cleavage of PARP in cisplatin-treated astrocytes. Also, BJMY-Dan inhibited the activation of pro-apoptotic factor, Bak by cisplatin. Lastly, astrocytes stained with JC-1 and Rhodamine 123 were photographed by fluorescence microscope to visualize changes of mitochondrial membrane permeability transition(MPT) during treatment with cisplatin for 24hr. BJMY-Dan recovered the change of MPT by cisplatn in astrocytes. According to above results, BJMY-Dan may protect astrocytes from cytotoxicity induced by chemotherapeutic agents, including cisplatin.

        세라밴드와 트레드밀 트레이닝이 편마비환자의 일상생활체력과 고유수용성감각에 미치는 영향

        The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of 10 weeks of Thera-band training and treadmill training on daily living activity and proprioceptive perception in hemiplegic stroke patients. This study included chronic hemiplegic patients consisted of Thera-band(n=8) and training group(n=8) and was performed for 50 minutes each session 3 times a week for 10 weeks. The results of this study showed that mutual effects of groups and periods showed significance in knee extensions of paretic sides. 10 weeks of Thera-band training and treadmill training showed positive effects on daily living activity and proprioceptive perception in hemiplegic stroke patients. Especially, resistive exercise programs were more effective than aerobic exercise in lower variables. Especially, not only resistive exercise such as Thera-band but also aerobic treadmill exercises showed significance to prevent loss of proprioceptive perception and fall down due to inappropriate weight bearing which often can be seen in hemiplegic patients. Therefore, combined aerobic and resistance exercise training would be more effective in treating hemiplegic stroke patients. 본 연구의 목적은 10주간의 세라밴드 트레이닝과 트레드밀 트레이닝이 뇌졸중으로 인한 편마비 환자의 일상생활체력과 고유수용성감각에 미치는 영향을 규명하는 것이다. 이에 만성 편마비 환자를 대상으로 세라밴드 트레이닝 집단(n=8)과 트레드밀 트레이닝(n=8)으로 나누어 10주간, 주 3회, 회당 50분간의 훈련을 실시하였다. 연구결과에 의하면, 10주간의 세라밴드 트레이닝과 트레드밀 트레이닝 프로그램이 뇌졸중으로 인한 편마비 환자의 일상생활체력과 고유수용성감각의 개선에 긍정적인 효과가 나타났으며, 특히 세라밴드를 이용한 저항운동 프로그램이 트레드밀을 이용한 유산소운동보다 대부분의 하위 변위에서 더욱 효과적인 것으로 나타났다. 그러나 편마비 환자에게서 자주 나타나는 고유수용성감각의 저하와 비대칭적인 체중지지로 야기되는 낙상을 예방하는데 있어서 세라밴드와 같은 저항성운동뿐만 아니라 트레드밀과 같은 유산소운동 역시 매우 중요한 것으로 나타났다. 따라서 향후 뇌졸중으로 인한 편마비 환자 치료 시 유산소 운동과 저항성운동을 병행하여 실시하는 것이 더욱 효과적일 것으로 판단된다.
