      • 광섬유를 이용한 전류센서의 개발(Ⅱ)

        손병기,Taylor, H.F.,김창원 경북대학교 센서기술연구소 1993 연차보고서 Vol.1993 No.-

Fiber optic Fabry-Perot interferometer which has two internal mirrors were fabricated by using TiO_2 film coated optical fiber and its Fabry-Perot interferometer chracteristics was investigated. TiO_2 film has been evaporated by RF magnetron sputtering method. Refractive index of TiO_2 film is linearly related from 2.36 to 2.48 increasing the RF power from 120W to 140W, where stoichiometric ratio(O/Ti=2) shown good. A stable and clear fringe pattern could be obtained through fiber optic Fabry-Perot interferometer which was fabricated in 120W RF power evaporation condition. And a FFPI(Fiber optic Fabry-Perot Interferometer) sensor is bonded on the PZT to make a current sensor. Then current sensor was fabricated and signal processing circuits for simple fiber optic current sensor was designed. The sensor exhibited very linear response in the current range of 0∼50 Å. And the higher resister is, conneted to the terminal of the current sensor, the better sensor resolution becomes and the power linear characteristics becomes, which indicate the good resolution sacrifice the good linear characteristics. Zero-crossing detection scheme is used to deal with the optical signal. For the purpose of improving the current sensor characteristics, by using 50㎒ clock in the signal processing circuit the resolution of the sensor was improved about seven times compare with by using 1㎒ clock.

      • Family Day Care and the National Quality Framework: Issues in Improving Quality of Service

Karin Ishimine,Collette Tayler 육아정책연구소 2012 International Journal of Child Care and Education Vol.6 No.1

Family child care, or family day care (FDC), as it is known in Australia, is an important early childhood education and care (ECEC) option, as it offers unique services compared with other ECEC services such as greater flexibility, wider children’s age range (0-12 years old) and differential operation procedures. In Australia, however, a new National Quality Framework (NQF) is in the process of being implemented in Australia. This will affect all ECEC services, including FDCs, through the application of National Quality Standards (NQS). How will FDCs respond to the major changes ensuing from introducing the NQF and NQS? We argue that there are several factors impacting on the quality of provision by FDCs over the longer term. These include workforce qualifications, carer-child interactions, systemic implementation processes and measures of quality. This paper will discuss the impact of NQF and NQS on FDC and will address issues where no specific quality improvement strategy is applied.

      • Quality and Early Childhood Education and Care : A Policy Initiative for the 21st Century

Karin Ishimine,Collette Tayler,John Bennett 육아정책연구소 2010 International Journal of Child Care and Education Vol.4 No.2

The expectation of quality early childhood education and care (ECEC) is that higher quality inputs will produce higher quality outcomes for children. There are many ways that outcomes may be expressed and measured, though current procedures emphasize threshold quality. However, threshold quality is essentially an entry-level concept – once the entry requirements are met, quality is assumed to have been attained and subsequently sustained. A more sophisticated, comprehensive procedure is needed. For more than a decade ECEC policy in Australia has been generally weak, fragmented and dominated by matters related to quantity (market issues) rather than quality (pedagogical issues), despite the rhetoric. What should be measured to identify quality in ECEC settings? What should a quality directed ECEC policy emphasize? This paper addresses significant issues in determining and measuring quality for a comprehensive ECEC policy and the links to a rating system in Australia.

      • MEDTalks: a student-driven program to enhance undergraduate student understanding and interest in medical schools in Canada

        Jayson Azzi,Dalia Karol,Tayler Bailey,Christopher Jerome Ramnanan 한국보건의료인국가시험원 2019 보건의료교육평가 Vol.16 No.-

Given the lack of programs geared towards educating undergraduate students about medical school, the purpose of this study was to evaluate whether a medical student-driven initiative program, MEDTalks, enhanced undergraduate students’ understanding of medical school in Canada and stimulated their interest in pursuing medicine. The MEDTalks program, which ran between January and April 2018 at the University of Ottawa, consisted of 5 teaching sessions, each including large-group lectures, small-group case-based learning, physical skills tutorials, and anatomy lab demonstrations, to mimic the typical medical school curriculum. At the end of the program, undergraduate student learners were invited to complete a feedback questionnaire. Twenty-nine participants provided feedback, of whom 25 reported that MEDTalks allowed them to gain exposure to the University of Ottawa medical program; 27 said that it gave them a greater understanding of the teaching structure; and 25 responded that it increased their interest in attending medical school. The MEDTalks program successfully developed a greater understanding of medical school and helped stimulate interest in pursuing medical studies among undergraduate students.

      • Task-Enhancing Talk in Cooperative Learning

        King, L.,Barry, K.,Maloney, C.,Tayler, C. Australian Studies Institute 1997 Journal of Australian studies Vol.4 No.1

This study has reported a description of student and teacher talk during small-group cooperative learning. The major focus has been on student task-enhancing talk since such talk is assumed to link with cognitive development. Clear patterns of student task-enhancing talk were discerned both during group work and during teacher-led whole class instruction. An analysis of teacher talk across lessons found that the teacher did engage in talk designed to promote student task-enhancing talk. By tracking parallel talk patterns of teachers and students, our evidence would suggest that teachers can influence the kind and quality of student talk, especially that associated with cognitive development and learning. Many questions arise from our study. How vital is the role of the teacher in promoting student task-enhancing talk? At which points during small-group cooperative learning lessons should teachers be involved? What kinds of teacher involvement are likely to be most beneficial before, during and after group work? In what wats and to what extent need teachers concern themselves with designing curriculum materials to capitalise on the small-group cooperative learning strategy? This brief sample of the range of possible questions focuses essentially on the teacher. We believe this is proper since beneficial and productive student learning will occur only when effective teachers fulfil critical and active roles during small-group cooperative learning lesson.

Percutaneous Dilatational Tracheostomy in a Cardiac Surgical Intensive Care Unit: A Single-Center Experience

        Vignesh Vudatha,Yahya Alwatari,George Ibrahim,Tayler Jacobs,Kyle Alexander,Carlos Puig-Gilbert,Walker Julliard,Rachit Dilip Shah 대한심장혈관흉부외과학회 2023 Journal of Chest Surgery (J Chest Surg) Vol.56 No.5

Background: A significant proportion of cardiac surgery intensive care unit (CSICU) patients require long-term ventilation, necessitating tracheostomy placement. The goal of this study was to evaluate the long-term postoperative outcomes and complications associated with percutaneous dilatational tracheostomy (PDT) in CSICU patients. Methods: All patients undergoing PDT after cardiac, thoracic, or vascular operations in the CSICU between January 1, 2013 and January 1, 2021 were identified. They were evaluated for mortality, decannulation time, and complications including bleeding, infection, and need for surgical intervention. Multivariable regression models were used to identify predictors of early decannulation and the complication rate. Results: Ninety-three patients were identified for this study (70 [75.3%] male and 23 [24.7%] female). Furthermore, 18.3% of patients had chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), 21.5% had history of stroke, 7.5% had end-stage renal disease, 33.3% had diabetes, and 59.1% were current smokers. The mean time from PDT to decannulation was 39 days. Roughly one-fifth (20.4%) of patients were on dual antiplatelet therapy and 81.7% had anticoagulation restarted 8 hours post-tracheostomy. Eight complications were noted, including 5 instances of bleeding requiring packing and 1 case of mediastinitis. There were no significant predictors of decannulation prior to discharge. Only COPD was identified as a negative predictor of decannulation at any point in time (hazard ratio, 0.28; 95% confidence interval, 0.08–0.95; p=0.04). Conclusion: Percutaneous tracheostomy is a safe and viable alternative to surgical tracheostomy in cardiac surgery ICU patients. Patients who undergo PDT have a relatively short duration of tracheostomy and do not have major post-procedural complications.
