Co-utilization of Maltose and Sodium Acetate via Engineered Corynebacterium glutamicum for Improved Itaconic Acid Production

        Taghreed Elkasaby,Dao Duy Hanh,Hideo Kawaguchi,Masakazu Toyoshima,Akihiko Kondo,Chiaki Ogino 한국생물공학회 2023 Biotechnology and Bioprocess Engineering Vol.28 No.5

For growth and energy, Corynebacterium glutamicum has the ability to assimilate numerous carbon sources in the form of either single or combined substrates. During the growth of C. glutamicum on substrate mixtures, it has shown the ability to co-metabolize the majority of these carbon sources and displays monophasic growth, unlike other microorganisms such as Escherichia coli and Bacillus subtilis, which exhibit either diauxic or biphasic growth. Here, a recombinant strain of C. glutamicum ATCC 13032 was selected for the use in the production of itaconic acid (IA), which is a promising biochemical building block that could be an alternative material for polymer synthesis. For this purpose, an engineered C. glutamicum ATCC 13032 pCH-cadAopt was constructed by introducing the plasmid pCH-cadAopt, which expressed a cis-aconitate dehydrogenase gene (cadA) that originated from Aspergillus terreus. The production of IA was evaluated using a combined mixture of maltose and sodium acetate. The monophasic growth of C. glutamicum in the presence of maltose and sodium acetate was observed and showed final IA titer of 12.63 g/L, and a molar yield of 0.38 mol/mol after 240 h of cultivation. The present study suggests the possibility of utilizing a mixture of carbon sources by C. glutamicum to improve IA production.

A Review: Synthesis and characterization of metals complexes with paracetamol drug

        Salam R AL-Ayash,Taghreed H AL-Noor 한국분석과학회 2022 분석과학 Vol.35 No.4

In this review, previous studies on the synthesis and characterization of the metal Complexes with paracetamol by elemental analysis, thermal analysis, (IR, NMR and UV-Vis (spectroscopy and conductivity. In reviewing these studies, the authors found that paracetamol can be coordinated through the pair of electrons on the hydroxyl O-atom, carbonyl O-atom, and N-atom of the amide group. If the paracetamol was a monodentate ligand, it will be coordinated by one of the following atoms O-hydroxyl, O-carbonyl or N-amide. But if the paracetamol was bidentate, it is coordinated by atoms (O-carbonyl and N-amide), (O-hydroxyl and N-amide) or (O-carbonyl and O-hydroxyl). The authors also found that free paracetamol and its complexes have antimicrobial activity.

A career in academia? Determinants of academic career aspirations among PhD students in one research university in the US

        김은영,Stefanie Benson,Taghreed A. Alhaddab 서울대학교 교육연구소 2018 Asia Pacific Education Review Vol.19 No.2

In the declining academic job market—with fewer tenured and tenure-track posts and an increased use of part-time faculty coupled with constant high attrition rates in doctoral education in the United States—the quality and value of graduate education have recently come under scrutiny. Most of the literature on graduate education focuses on doctoral training and socialization experiences, identifies factors that contribute to students’ degree completion, and illuminates what demographic characteristics may complicate the process of graduate education. While a growing body of research has documented the variations in graduate student socialization by department, academic discipline, and institutional and organizational contexts—and critiqued a monolithic treatment of doctoral education—few studies look at the relationship between doctoral training and career development. This study integrates doctoral socialization, role identity, and competence development into a conceptual model for examining factors that influence doctoral students’ intent to choose an academic career. Based on the data analysis of a sample of 316 doctoral students in a public, research-oriented U.S. university, we provide a discussion of key factors identified as important to doctoral students’ career aspirations and conclude with implications for practice and future research.

      • The Effectiveness of the Use of Distance-Evaluation Tools and Methods among Students with Learning-Difficulties from the Teachers' Point of View

Almaleki, Deyab A.,Khayat, Wejdan W.,Yally, Taghreed F.,Al-hajjaji, Aysha A. International Journal of Computer ScienceNetwork S 2021 International journal of computer science and netw Vol.21 No.5

This study aimed to identify the effectiveness of the use of distance-evaluation tools and methods among students with learning difficulties from the teachers' point of view, to achieve this goal. A scale was built, and the psychometric characteristics were validated. It consisted, in its final form, of 17 items distributed on four axes, in addition to three open questions. It was applied to a random sample of (149) teachers of students with learning difficulties in Makkah Region. The results showed that teachers' keenness to encourage students with learning difficulties, so that they would not feel frustrated with the distance learning process. It was also evident that teachers did not use achievement portfolios in the evaluation process. In connection with the appropriate evaluation methods, the majority indicated the use of work sheets and visual evaluation methods that rely on audio and visual skills, such as presenting videos, pictures, audio and games, and applying short objective tests. Among the proposals to improve evaluation methods and tools: Individual evaluation, attention to individual treatment, obligating personal attendance of students to school, splitting the required tasks, and not increasing the skills required to be mastered. As for the obstacles that teachers face: Lack of time, difficulty in communicating with students with distance learning difficulties and problems related to the Internet such as interruption, weakness, or lack of availability.
