• ENGAGING CUSTOMERS FOR VALUE CO-CREATION THROUGH MOBILE INSTANT MESSAGING

        Soey Sut Ieng Lei,Shun Ye,Dan Wang,Rob Law 글로벌지식마케팅경영학회 2018 Global Marketing Conference Vol.2018 No.07

Tourism and hospitality service providers have been seeking ways to engage customers into the value creation process to deliver personalized customer experience. Rapid development of information communication technology has facilitated such practice by providing various computer-based or mobile platforms. While online platforms such as social network sites and online communities have received most research attention, mobile instant messaging (IM) remains under-researched in spite of its unique potential for firm-customer interaction and communication. Based on service-dominant logic (Vargo & Lusch, 2004) and computer-mediated communication theories (Walther, 1996), this study examines (1) the factors influencing customers’ perceived co-creation experience facilitated by mobile IM, and (2) customers’ perceived value of personalization results from such experience in the tourism and hospitality context. Data was collected via online survey targeting Chinese users and was analyzed using structural equation modelling. The results found significant positive effects of users’ perceived social presence, perceived media richness and prior experiences on their co-creation experience. The significant positive relationships between customers’ co-creation experience and perceived personalization of the service offering validate the unique potential of mobile IM to engage customers into value co-creation with tourism and hospitality service providers. The findings extend the theoretical framework of value cocreation to a context mediated by mobile IM. Managerial suggestions are provided for tourism and hospitality companies to engage with customers using mobile IM.

Effect of Premenstrual Syndrome on Work-Related Quality of Life in Turkish Nurses

Kahyaoglu Sut, Hatice,Mestogullari, Elcin Occupational Safety and Health Research Institute 2016 Safety and health at work Vol.7 No.1

Background: Little is known about the effects of premenstrual syndrome (PMS) on work-related quality of life in nurses. We aimed to investigate the effect of PMS on work-related quality of life in Turkish nurses. Methods: A total of 134 volunteer nurses were included in this cross-sectional study between January 2015 and March 2015. One hundred and thirty-four nurses completed a questionnaire regarding demographic data, the Premenstrual Syndrome Scale (PMSS), and the Work-Related Quality of Life Scale (WRQoL). The nurses were classified as having or not having premenstrual syndrome according to the PMSS. Results: The average age was $29.5{\pm}7.1years$ and the prevalence of PMS was 38.1%. The total score of PMSS was significantly negatively correlated with the overall score (r = -0.341; p < 0.001) and all subscale scores of the WRQoL and ranged from -0.207 to -0.402 (p < 0.05 for all). All of the WRQoL subscale scores except stress at work (p = 0.179) in nurses with PMS were significantly lower than those of nurses without PMS (p < 0.05). The age (${\beta}=-0.258$; p = 0.021) and PMSS total score (${\beta}=-0.314$; p < 0.001) increment negatively; however, optimistic thinking (${\beta}=0.228$; p = 0.008) positively affected overall WRQoL score. Conclusion: Nurses with PMS have decreased levels of work-related quality of life in their professional lives. Methods to help cope with cyclic premenstrual symptoms may be used, and as a result, productivity and work-related quality of life may increase.

      • Two decades of Change in Ideologies of Macao : A Corpus-assisted Discourse Analysis of Macao’s Policy Addresses in Post-Handover Period

LAM SUT I 한국외국어대학교 통번역연구소 2019 한국외국어대학교 통번역연구소 학술대회 Vol.2019 No.07

Policy addresses are important government documents that convey the government’s policies and publicize the government’s work plan set for the coming year, and at the same time, carry important information about social and economic developments. This paper studies the policy addresses of Macao SAR in the post-handover period. It aims at investigating how discourse reflect the change in Macao’s ideologies in the post-handover period and how translation, as a frame itself, (Baker, 2006) functions in the process of ideologies construction. With Halliday’s sociocultural perspectives towards language (Halliday & Matthiessen, 2004), this paper conducts a corpus-assisted discourse analysis to the policy addresses released in two-decade time by the two chief executives of the first four terms of Macao SAR government in the post-handover period. The analysis shows that the diction in this particular discourse type reflects the changes in the development of Macao and in the relationship between government and the audience in the investigated period. It is argued that a corpus-assisted investigation can help reveal how discourse is shaped by social practice and how discourse and translation process function in constructing ideologies, which reflect the dialectical relationship between discourse and social realities.

Interfacial approach to fabricate covalently and noncovalently attached inverse-phosphocholine supported lipid bilayers on TiO2 and SiO2 surfaces

Tun Naw Sut,Sigalit Meker,Dong Jun Koo,Joshua A. Jackman,Nam-Joon Cho 한국공업화학회 2023 Journal of Industrial and Engineering Chemistry Vol.128 No.-

Inverse-phosphocholine lipids such as DOCP are intriguing biomolecules for surface functionalizationbecause they can form supported lipid bilayers (SLBs) on titania surfaces but adsorb weakly on silica surfaces. Interestingly, these trends are nearly opposite to those of conventional phosphocholine lipids, motivating deeper investigation of how environmental parameters affect DOCP lipid vesicle adsorptionphenomena. Herein, we systematically investigated how solution pH (4, 6, 8, 10) and ionic strength(50, 150, 250 mM NaCl) influence DOCP lipid vesicle adsorption behavior on titania and silica surfaces. On titania, DOCP lipid vesicles either adsorbed and ruptured to form a covalently attached SLB (acidicpH), adsorbed but did not rupture (basic pH with high salt), or did not adsorb (basic pH with low salt). Conversely, on silica, a narrow range of acidic pH, high-salt conditions triggered DOCP lipid vesicleadsorption and rupture to form a noncovalently attached SLB whereas negligible adsorption occurredin other conditions. The corresponding energetics of the vesicle-surface interaction and lipid attachmentproperties were analyzed and clarify how the interplay of solution pH and ionic strength modulates DOCPlipid vesicle adsorption behavior. Based on these insights, we identified suitable strategies to fabricatecovalently and noncovalently stabilized inverse-phosphocholine lipid bilayers on oxide surfaces.

      • DESIGN AND DEVELOPMENT OF A SOFT GRIPPER (A REVIEW)

        ( Dhruba Jyoti Sut ),( S. Prabhu ) 한국감성과학회 2021 한국감성과학회 국제학술대회(ICES) Vol.2021 No.-

Soft grippers have advanced rapidly thanks to development in soft robotics, science of materials, and flexible electronics. This paper reviewing comprehensive suggestion of soft grippers, including physical ideologies, and device topologies. Different sorts of grippers are required for handling different types of objects, both hard and soft. To acquire additional flexibility in holding objects, it is critical to use flexible and adaptive gripping approaches. Complimentary soft-robotic grasping systems, which are highly adaptable in terms of workpiece shape, size, and structure, are an excellent solution to boost production flexibility. The main reason behind the review is to know about the existing soft gripper and know about existing soft-robotic grippers repeatability with substantial payload capacities. A systematic inspection of soft gripper is offered. Flexible and soft end-effectors often able to grasp or move a broader range of objects than rigid grippers.

      • Mechanical Principles of a Soft Pneumatic Actuator with a Single Air Chamber for Inducing Bending

        ( Dhruba Jyoti Sut ),( S. Prabhu ) 한국감성과학회 2023 한국감성과학회 국제학술대회(ICES) Vol.2023 No.-

The primary objective of this study is to quantify the bending behavior of soft pneumatic actuators in soft robotic systems under various loading conditions for grasping different object in a precise way. For that conducted experiments by measuring the bending angle of hollow beams made from Dragon Skin silicone rubber with different top layer thicknesses (1 mm, 1.5 mm, 2 mm, and 2.5 mm) and under the pneumatic pressures ranging from 10 kPa to 50 kPa, utilizing both analytical modeling based on Euler- Bernoulli beam theory and Finite Element Method (FEM) analysis tools. The results showed that increasing the top layer thickness reduced the bending angle. In contrast, increased pressure caused an expansion in the bending angle, as observed through analytical modeling and FEM analysis. Notably, the modeling technique provided bending angle values that closely matched those obtained through FEM analysis.

Optimal formation of uniform-phase supported lipid bilayers from phospholipid–monoglyceride bicellar mixtures

Tun Naw Sut,Soohyun Park,Bo Kyeong Yoon,Joshua A. Jackman,조남준 한국공업화학회 2020 Journal of Industrial and Engineering Chemistry Vol.88 No.-

Supported lipid bilayers (SLBs) spanning hydrophilic surfaces are industrially attractive biomimeticcoatings that mimic critical aspects of lipid membrane interfaces and are increasingly used inapplications spanning medicine, biotechnology, and environmental science. The use of adsorbing bicellelipid nanostructures composed of long- and short-chain phospholipid mixtures is an effective selfassemblydriven process for streamlined SLB fabrication. However, existing studies use synthetic shortchainphospholipids as a necessary bicelle component and such materials are not practical for industrialapplications. Herein, we investigated optimal conditions to fabricate SLBs from bicelles containing anindustrially useful monoglyceride called monocaprin (MC) in place of short-chain phospholipids. Theratio of long-chain phospholipid to MC along with total lipid concentration were systematically tested. Quartz crystal microbalance-dissipation (QCM-D) and time-lapsefluorescence microscopy experimentswere performed to characterize bicelle adsorption onto silicon dioxide surfaces, andfluorescencerecovery after photobleaching (FRAP) measurements were conducted to evaluate lateral lipid diffusionwithin the fabricated lipid adlayers. Depending on bicelle parameters, high-quality SLB formation withuniform phase properties was achieved and optimal ranges are described to ensure target performanceoutcomes without phase separation. Together, ourfindings demonstrate that MC-containing bicelles areuseful tools to form high-quality SLBs suitable for surface coating and biosensing applications.

Amyloid-β Peptide Triggers Membrane Remodeling in Supported Lipid Bilayers Depending on Their Hydrophobic Thickness

        Meker, Sigalit,Chin, Hokyun,Sut, Tun Naw,Cho, Nam-Joon American Chemical Society 2018 Langmuir Vol.34 No.32

Amyloid-β (Aβ) peptide has been implicated in Alzheimer’s disease, which is a leading cause of death worldwide. The interaction of Aβ peptides with the lipid bilayers of neuronal cells is a critical step in disease pathogenesis. Recent evidence indicates that lipid bilayer thickness influences Aβ membrane-associated aggregation, while understanding how Aβ interacts with lipid bilayers remains elusive. To address this question, we employed supported lipid bilayer (SLB) platforms composed of different-length phosphatidylcholine (PC) lipids (C12:0 DLPC, C18:1 DOPC, C18:1-C16:0 POPC), and characterized the resulting interactions with soluble Aβ monomers. Quartz crystal microbalance-dissipation (QCM-D) experiments identified concentration-dependent Aβ peptide adsorption onto all tested SLBs, which was corroborated by fluorescence recovery after photobleaching (FRAP) experiments indicating that higher Aβ concentrations led to decreased membrane fluidity. These commonalities pointed to strong Aβ peptide-membrane interactions in all cases. Notably, time-lapsed fluorescence microscopy revealed major differences in Aβ-induced membrane morphological responses depending on SLB hydrophobic thickness. For thicker DOPC and POPC SLBs, membrane remodeling involved the formation of elongated tubule and globular structures as a passive means to regulate membrane stress depending on Aβ concentration. In marked contrast, thin DLPC SLBs were not able to accommodate extensive membrane remodeling. Taken together, our findings reveal that membrane thickness influences the membrane morphological response triggered upon Aβ adsorption.
[FIG OMISSION]
