Investigation of Ionic Transport Through Track-Etched Conical Nanopores of PET Membrane

        Sushil Kumar,Rajesh Kumar,Sushil Kumar,Narinder Kumar,S. K. Chakarvarti 성균관대학교(자연과학캠퍼스) 성균나노과학기술원 2018 NANO Vol.13 No.1

The control of ionic transportation inside the multi asymmetric conical nanopores in polyethylene terephthalate (PET) membrane was investigated. The conical nanopores were prepared by chemical etching in irradiated PET foil using etchant (9 M NaOH) and stopping solution (1 M NaCl + 1 M HCOOH). The behavior of ionic current was recorded under stepping voltage - 2 V to +2 V at different molar concentrations of potassium halides (KCl, KBr and KI) under symmetric bathing condition in electrochemical cell. It is found that the presence of multiple ionic species and the occurrence of counterion condensation of charge regulated polyelectrolyte play an effective role in ionic current rectification (ICR). The electrical conductance of conical nanopores may be estimated by measuring the ionic current rectification properties of track-etched nanopores. The charge transport properties vary with molar concentration and pH of electrolyte. Moreover, ICR may be used as a voltage gating phenomena with wide technological applications.

Protective efficacy of Coriandrum sativum seeds against arsenic induced toxicity in Swiss albino mice

        Kumar Arun,Kumar Vikas,Akhouri Vivek,Kumar Ranjit,Ali Mohammad,Rashmi Tuhin,Chand Gyanendra Bahadur,Singh Sushil Kumar,Ghosh Ashok Kumar 한국독성학회 2022 Toxicological Research Vol.38 No.4

Arsenic poisoning in ground water is one of the most sensitive environmental pollutant causing serious pollution all over the world. Chronic arsenic exposure through drinking water to humans leads to major public health related issues. There have been very meagre studies which reported that, the plant constituents proved to exhibit protective effect from arsenicosis. Therefore, the present study aims to evaluate the protective efficacy of Coriandrum sativum seeds extract against sodium arsenite induced toxicity in Swiss albino mice. In the present study twenty-four male healthy Swiss albino mice (30 ± 5 g) were divided into four groups (n = 6), where the control group received normal diet and water; group II and group III treated with sodium arsenite (2 mg per kg body weight per day) for 2 and 4 weeks respectively. The group IV mice were administered with C.sativum seeds extract at the dose of 150 mg per kg body weight per day for 4 weeks upon sodium arsenite pretreated (2 mg/kg body weight for 4 weeks per day) mice. After the complete dose duration, all the treatment group animals were sacrificed same day for haematological, biochemical and histopathological study. In the arsenic treated mice, there were significant (p < 0.0001) changes in the serum levels of ALT, AST, ALP, urea, uric acid and creatinine as well as in the haematological parameters. In contrast, after the administration with C.sativum seeds extract upon arsenic pretreated mice, there was significant (p < 0.0001) improvement observed in the hepatic and renal biomarker parameters as well as haematological variables. In the arsenic intoxicated mice, after administration with C.sativum seeds extract there was significant (p < 0.0001) reduction in the arsenic concentration in blood, liver and kidney tissues as well as in the serum LPO levels. Furthermore, the histopathological study showed that, C.sativum seeds extract administrated group of mice significantly restored the liver and kidney at cellular level against arsenic induced toxicity. The entire study concludes that C.sativum seeds extract possesses the ameliorative effect against arsenic induced liver and kidney intoxication.

Investigations of Biocompatible Systems for Reactive Extraction of Propionic Acid Using Aminic Extractants (TOA and Aliquat 336)

        Sushil Kumar,B V Babu,Kailas L Wasewar 한국생물공학회 2012 Biotechnology and Bioprocess Engineering Vol.17 No.6

This paper presents the reactive extraction of propionic acid from aqueous solution by amine based extractants such as tri-n-octylamine and Aliquat 336,dissolved in a mixture of n-dodecane and 1-decanol. Equilibrium experiments were carried out to investigate the effects of various parameters such as modifier (1-decanol)concentration, extractant type, extractant composition, diluent composition, and initial acid concentration on the extraction efficiency. The extraction efficiency was found to be increased with an increase in modifier composition and extractant composition, and decreased with increases in initial acid concentration. Different biocompatible extractant/diluent systems such as (1) 20% TOA, 20% 1-decanol and 60% n-dodecane, (2) 20% TOA, 30% 1-decanol and 50% n-dodecane, (3) 30% TOA, 20% 1-decanol and 50% n-dodecane and (4) 25% Aliquat 336,25% 1-decanol and 50% n-dodecane are developed and used in this study. A mathematical model based on mass action law and a population-based search algorithm (differential evolution, DE) is proposed, and is used to estimate the extraction equilibrium constant (KE) and stoichiometry of reactive extraction. Individual equilibrium constants for the simultaneous formation of (1:1) and (2:1)acid:amine complexes are also determined. The extraction system comprised of 20% TOA, 30% 1-decanol, and 50%n-dodecane was found to be the best among the four biocompatible extractant/diluent systems studied. The loading ratios found in the range of 0.113 ~ 1.05 indicated the simultaneous formation of 1:1 and 2:1 complexes between acid and TOA. Kumar, Sushil,Prasad, Rajendra,Singh, Punit Kumar Korean Mathematical Society 2019 대한수학회논문집 Vol.34 No.2

In this paper, we introduce conformal semi-slant submersions from Lorentzian para Sasakian manifolds onto Riemannian manifolds. We investigate integrability of distributions and the geometry of leaves of such submersions from Lorentzian para Sasakian manifolds onto Riemannian manifolds. Moreover, we examine necessary and sufficient conditions for such submersions to be totally geodesic where characteristic vector field ${\xi}$ is vertical.

        Sushil Kumar,Zishan H. Khan,M.A. Majeed Khan,M. Husain 한국물리학회 2005 Current Applied Physics Vol.5 No.6

A good deal of information regarding the synthesis and optoelectro-structural properties of thin lms of lead chalcogenideshave been revealed. The development of laser technology had opened up new application for narrow gap lead salts and their alloys. The polycrystalline thin lms were deposited onto optically plane and chemically clean glass substrates by vacuum evaporation tech-nique. The lms were thin, uniform, smooth and tightly adherent to the substrates.Optical absorption spectroscopy, X-ray dirac-tion technique and currentvoltage characteristics method were used to characterize the lms. The absorption coecients andoptical band gaps of lms were determined by using FTIR spectrophotometer. The nature of sample, crystal structure and latticeparameters of lms were found from X-ray diractograms. The dc conductivities and activation energies of lms were measured intemperature range 300380K. Schottky junctions of PbS, PbSe and PbTe with indium metal were made. The barrier heights andideality factors of these metalsemiconductor junctions were determined by usingIV characteristics..

Rapid Prediction of Long-term Deflections in Steel-Concrete Composite Bridges Through a Neural Network Model

        Sushil Kumar,K. A. Patel,Sandeep Chaudhary,A.K. Nagpal 한국강구조학회 2021 International Journal of Steel Structures Vol.21 No.2

This paper proposes a closed-form expression for the rapid prediction of long-term defl ections in simply supported steel– concrete composite bridges under the service load. The proposed expression incorporates the fl exibility of shear connectors, shear lag eff ect and time eff ects (creep and shrinkage) in concrete. The expression has been derived from the trained artifi cial neural network (ANN). The training, validation and testing data sets for the ANN were produced using the validated fi nite element (FE) model. The proposed expression has been verifi ed for a number of specimen-bridges and the errors were observed to be within acceptable limits for practical design purposes. Furthermore, a sensitivity analysis has been performed using the proposed closed-form expression to study the eff ect of the input parameters on the output. The proposed expression requires nominal computational eff ort, compared to the FE analysis and, therefore, can be applied to rapid prediction of defl ections for everyday preliminary design.
