Background: Equating is a statistical procedure used to create a common measurement scale across two instruments. Item-level information should be taken into consideration so that scores can communicate interchangeably across the instruments. Objects: To investigate a common measurement scale across two health-related quality of life questionnaires (HRQOL) applied to various cancer survivors who underwent palliative care in healthcare institutions. Methods: A total of 139 cancer survivors who underwent palliative care were recruited from two rehabilitation hospitals and an oriental medicine hospital. Participants consisted of various cancer survivors who presented to the sites for palliative care. They were asked to fill out Kore-an versions of the World Health Organization Quality of Life (WHOQOL-BREF) and EuroQOL-5 dimension (EQ-5D) questionnaires following the palliative care. For the item level comparison, the Rasch rating scale model was used to investigate how participants regarded individual test items of two instruments in relation to item difficulty calibrations. Results: All items except the three items fit the Rasch model. One item (anxiety/depression) of the EQ-5D and two items (dependence on medical aids and negative feelings) of the WHO-QOL-BREF are misfit. The WHOQOL-BREF targets the survivors well, while the EQ-5D is able to target the survivors with lower HRQOL levels with some ceiling effects. By inspecting the item difficulty calibrations of the two instruments, five items of the WHOQOL-BREF are selected as common items in relation to the EQ-5D. These five items are considered compatible with each other. Differential item functioning (DIF) analysis reveals that the healthcare item of the WHOQOL-BREF vs the self-care item of the EQ-5D exhibits significant DIF. Conclusion: Findings suggest that one paired item should be taken into consideration when equating the WHOQOL-BREF and the EQ-5D applied to cancer survivors who underwent pal-liative care.

Objectives : The purpose of this study is to report the effect of Korean medicine on the pancreatic carcinoma patient. Method : A patient was diagnosed as unresectable pancreatic carcinoma. She complained insomnia, abdominal pain, dyspepsia and sleep disturbance. She was treated by Korean medicine composed of acupuncture, herbal medication and wild ginseng pharmacopuncture. Results : All symptoms took a favorable turn after Korean medicine treatment. As treatment was performed, as intensity of pain, insomnia, dyspepsia and fatigue were decreased. Conclusion : This study suggests that Korean medicine treatment has effectiveness for improvement of cancer related symptoms of a pancreatic carcinoma patient. Consequently, the treatment is helpful in improving quality of life.

Objectives : The purpose of this study is to report the effect of Korean Medicine Treatment (KMT) on the advanced gastric carcinoma (AGC) patient. Method : One advanced gastric carcinoma patient was treated by Korean Medicine Treatment composed of pharmacopuncture, acupuncture and herbal medicine. At the same time, he received chemotherapy (S-1 and Cisplatin) and radiotherapy. The effect of KMT was measured by scanning with Computed tomography (CT) and Esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EGD). Response was evaluated using the Response Evaluation Criteria in Solid Tumors (RECIST) Committee classification. Result : The tumor was disappeared after the treatment during 13 months (Complete Response (CR)). As treatment was performed, chemoradiation therapy induced complication was alleviated. Conclusion : This case provides us a possibility that Korean Medicine Treatment offers potential benefits for advanced gastric carcinoma patient.

Objectives: This is a five-year survival and complete response (CR) report on pancreatic cancer treated with western medicine and Korean traditional medicine. Method: A 59-year-old woman diagnosed with pancreatic cancer visited ○○ Korean traditional medicine hospital after neoadjuvant chemotherapy and pylorus-preserving pancreaticoduodenectomy. She was treated with Korean traditional medicine, including acupuncture, abdominal moxibustion, wild ginseng pharmacopuncture, and herbal medicine, which was based on integrated medicine therapy (IMT), from March 2018 to September 2022. The tumor size was measured by scanning with computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging, and positron-emission tomography/CT. Adverse events were evaluated using laboratory conclusion and National Cancer Institute Common Terminology Criteria for Adverse Events version 5.0. Result: During four years and three months of treatment, IMT maintained safety. The patient finally reached five-year survival without any recurrence or complication (CR) on October 26, 2022. Conclusion: We suggest that an integrative approach including Korean traditional medicine can be a meaningful treatment option for pancreatic cancer. Further studies should be performed to establish the proper treatment protocol of integrative medicine for pancreatic cancer.

Objectives: This is a five-year survival and complete response (CR) report on rectal cancer treated with western medicine and Korean traditional medicine. Method: A 25-year-old woman diagnosed with rectal cancer visited ⃝⃝ Korean traditional medicine hospital after neoadjuvant concurrent chemoradiation therapy, chemotherapy, and low anterior resection with regional lymph node dissection. She was treated with Korean traditional medicine, including acupuncture, abdominal moxibustion, wild ginseng pharmacopuncture, and herbal medicine, which was based on integrated medicine therapy (IMT), from January 2018 to February 2022. The tumor size was measured by scanning with computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging, and positron-emission tomography/CT. Adverse events were evaluated using laboratory conclusion and National Cancer Institute Common Terminology Criteria for Adverse Events version 5.0. Result: During four years of treatment, IMT maintained safety. The patient finally reached five-year survival without any recurrence or complication (CR) on March 11, 2022. Conclusion: We suggest that an integrative approach including Korean traditional medicine can be a meaningful treatment option for rectal cancer. Further studies should be performed to establish the proper treatment protocol of integrative medicine for rectal cancer.

Objective: The purpose of this study is to report the effect of integrative medicine on recurrent follicular lymphoma, thus providing a clinical basis for integrative medicine. Methods: The medical report of a patient with follicular lymphoma who had undergone several chemotherapies but continuously relapsed before treated with integrative medicine was analyzed. Radiologic outcome was assessed by several imaging tests based on Response Evaluation Criteria in Solid Tumors. Clinical outcome and safety were assessed by laboratory tests. Results: After five years of integrative treatment, there was a complete response in imaging tests such as computed tomography (CT), positron-emission tomography/CT, and endoscopy. There were no toxicity in the laboratory test and no serious side effect of integrative medicine. Conclusion: This study suggested that integrative medicine has few side effects but significant effects on treating recurrent follicular lymphoma. However, the results should be taken cautiously as further clinical studies are needed.
