본 연구는 철도폐선부지를 선형공원으로 재활용한 목포시 웰빙공원의 사례를 도시재생측면에서 경제적·사회적 가치의 변화에 대해 살펴보았다. 분석결과, 기피시설이었던 철도폐선부지를 선형공원으로 재활용한 목포시의 사례는 도시재생적 측면에서 경제적 가치 상승뿐만 아니라 사회적 측면에서도 긍정적으로 평가되고 있다. 구체적으로, 경제적 측면에서 공원 조성 전후의 지가상승률을 살펴본 결과, 전반적으로 주거환경의 개선되어 부동산 가치가 상승한 것으로 나타났다. 다음은 사회적 측면의 평가를 위해 주민의식조사를 실시한 결과, 이용횟수가 점차 증가하고 있으며, 근린공원의 성격이 강하여 인접지역의 사람들이 산책을 목적으로 주로 이용하고 있었다. 이용 만족도는 대체로 높은 편이였으나 조성 직후인 5년전 보다 주 이용구간은 만족도가 상승한 반면, 전체 구간은 하락한 것으로 나타났다. 도시재생측면에서의 웰빙공원은 지역이미지 개선과 지역활성화 효과에 크게 작용하고 있는 것으로 나타났고, 안전한 장소와 커뮤니티 활성화에 긍정적인 영향을 끼치고 있는 것으로 나타났다. 또한 향후 주변지역 환경의 변화 방향은 녹색네트워크로 구축을 희망하는 것으로 나타났다. This study examines the changes of economic and social values in aspects of urban regeneration with the case of Mokpo Wellness Park, remodeled on the abandoned railway area. It was positively evaluated in social and urban regeneration aspects with economic growth. Considering the increasing rate in land value before and after creating Wellness Park in economic aspects, it seemed that the overall residential environment was improved and the value of real estate increased. The residents" consciousness survey results in social aspects showed that the number of using Wellness Park was increased. Because of locating in neighborhood, people in adjacent areas had been Wellness Park mainly for walking. The overall satisfaction rate of Wellness Park was high in general. However, comparing with the one in 5 years ago, right after the park was constructed, the satisfaction rate for main user section rose but that of overall user section fell. Wellness Park had great impact on not only improving regional image and area activation in aspects of urban regeneration but also providing safe places and invigorating communities. In addition, it was found that the changing direction of local environment in the future was necessary to be established as Green Network.

We evaluated the degree fo skin irritation induced by four kinds of surfactants(anionic, cationic, amphoteric, and nonionic). We used visual scoring and two types of the non-invasive bioengineering methods. Visual scoring includes skin manifestations such as erythema, scale, and fissure. The erythema was measured by noninvasive bioengineering methods, we used a* value in Chromameter(CR-300□, Minolta, Japan) and erythema index in Mexameter(MX 16□, Courage-Khazaka, Germany). Additionally, the data collected by visual scoring and two types of the non-invasive bioengineering methods were statistically compared. The results were as follows 1. Visual scoring showed that irritation of surfactants was decreased in order of anionic>cationic>amphoteric>nonionic type. 2. In the measurement of erythema, there is significant correlation between visual scoring and Chromameter (r=0.73, p<0.05). In addition, we also detected a close resemblance between visual scoring and Mexameter(r=0.67, p<0.05). Chromameter has more significant correlation with visual scoring. 3. Also the correlation of Chromameter with Mexameter is significant (r=0.76, p<0.05). We have demonstrated there is a significant correlation between erythema measured by the Chromameter and Mexameter and erythema by visual scores. Chromameter and Mexameter are reproducible, objective, quantitative, and simple tools. Therefore, Chromameter and Mexameter, noninvasive bioengineering methods, may be useful in various fields such as screening test of surfactant characteristics. TOMM20 as a potential therapeutic target of colorectal cancer

Translocase of outer mitochondrial membrane 20 (TOMM20) plays an essential role as a receptor for proteins targeted to mitochondria. TOMM20 was shown to be overexpressed in various cancers. However, the oncological function and therapeutic potential for TOMM20 in cancer remains largely unexplored. The purpose of this study was to elucidate the underlying molecular mechanism of TOMM20’s contribution to tumorigenesis and to explore the possibility of its therapeutic potential using colorectal cancer as a model. The results show that TOMM20 overexpression resulted in an increase in cell proliferation, migration, and invasion of colorectal cancer (CRC) cells, while siRNA-mediated inhibition of TOMM20 resulted in significant decreases in cell proliferation, migration, and invasion. TOMM20 expression directly impacted the mitochondrial function including ATP production and maintenance of membrane potential, which contributed to tumorigenic cellular activities including regulation of S phase cell cycle and apoptosis. TOMM20 was overexpressed in CRC compared to the normal tissues and increased expression of TOMM20 to be associated with malignant characteristics including a higher number of lymph nodes and perineural invasion in CRC. Notably, knockdown of TOMM20 in the xenograft mouse model resulted in a significant reduction of tumor growth. This is the first report demonstrating a relationship between TOMM20 and tumorigenesis in colorectal cancer and providing promising evidence for the potential for TOMM20 to serve as a new therapeutic target of colorectal cancer. Background: The biological and pharmacological effects of BST204, a fermented ginseng extract, havebeen reported in various disease conditions. However, its molecular action in metabolic disease remainspoorly understood. In this study, we identified the antiadipogenic activity of BST204 resulting from itsinhibition of the S6 kinase 1 (S6K1) signaling pathway. Methods: The inhibitory effects of BST204 on S6K1 signaling were investigated by immunoblot, nuclearfractionation, immunoprecipitation analyses. The antiadipogenic effect of BST204 was evaluated bymeasuring mRNA levels of adipogenic genes and by chromatin immunoprecipitation and quantitativereal-time polymerase chain reaction analysis. Results: Treatment with BST204 inhibited activation and nuclear translocation of S6K1, furtherdecreasing the interaction between S6K1 and histone H2B in 10T1/2 mesenchymal stem cells. Subsequently,phosphorylation of H2B at serine 36 (H2BS36p) by S6K1 was reduced by BST204, inducing anincrease in the mRNA expression of Wnt6, Wnt10a, and Wnt10b, which disturbed adipogenic differentiationand promoted myogenic and early osteogenic gene expression. Consistently, BST204 treatmentduring adipogenic commitment suppressed the expression of adipogenic marker genes and lipid dropformation. Conclusion: Our results indicate that BST204 blocks adipogenesis of mesenchymal stem cells through theinhibition of S6K1-mediated histone phosphorylation. This study suggests the potential therapeuticstrategy using BST204 to combat obesity and musculoskeletal diseases.

Frequency of Multiple Consecutive Rib Fractures After Blunt Chest Trauma

Rib fractures often are not seen on initial radiographs. This study was undertaken to determine the frequency of the multiple consecutive rib fractures after blunt chest trauma. We retrospectively reviewed all the radiographs and medical charts of 87 patients with rib fractures after blunt chest trauma. Rib fractures were divided into single and multiple. The multiple rib fractures were subclassified as consecutive, interrupted continuous, or random. Thirteen cases of single and 83 cases of multiple rib fractures were present. Among the 83 cases of multiple factures, there were 73 cases(88%) of consecutive fractures, 5 cases(6%) of interrupted continuous fractures and 5 cases(6%) of random fractures. Among the multiple rib fractures consecutive rib fractures are much more common than noncontiguous rib fractures. We recommend that if one find an apparently nonfractured rib between contiguously fractured upper and lower ribs, one should meticulously search for possible fracture of an apparently normal rib with high-index of suspicion.
