The study aimed to evaluate the probiotic properties, antioxidant activity and fermentative capacity of Acremonium charticola and Rhizopus oryzae isolated from the Indonesian fermented dried cassava, with particular application on poultry. A. charticola inhibited the growth of Escherichia coli and Aspergillus flavus. A. charticola and R. oryzae grew in potato dextrose agar (PDA) adjusted to pH 3 and 8 or in PDA supplemented with bile salt up to 0.8%. After soaking for 8 hr, the survival rate of A. charticola in the simulated gastric juice (pH 2) and bile solutions (2% bile salt) was lower than that of R. oryzae. A. charticola and R. oryzae exhibited strong antioxidant activities. Compared to unfermented cassava pulp (control), the fibre content of cassava pulp tended to be lower after fermentation with A. charticola for 14 days. The populations of A. charticola and R. oryzae were significantly higher in fermented cassava pulp than in unfermented one. Coliform was higher in cassava pulp fermented with R. oryzae or A. charticola + R. oryzae compared to control after 7 days of fermentation, however, the bacteria were not different between A. charticola-fermented cassava pulp and control. Lactic acid bacteria (LAB) were higher in A. charticola- and R. oryzaefermented cassava pulp than those in control, however, no difference of LAB was observed between A. charticola + R. oryzaefermented cassava pulp and control. In conclusion, A. charticola exhibited antibacterial, antifungal and antioxidant activity, gastrointestinal persistence and fermentative capacity that may be beneficial for poultry industry.
Characteristics of the Savonius Wind Turbine Using Multiple Guide Vanes
Budi Sugiharto,Sudjito Soeparman,Denny Widhiyanuriyawan,Slamet Wahyudi 한국유체기계학회 2020 International journal of fluid machinery and syste Vol.13 No.3
This paper aims at identifying the characteristics of the Savonius Wind Turbine using a guide vane, which functions as the steering mechanism and reduces the negative torsion on the returning blade. The addition of the guide vane did not influence the turbine’s capacity in receiving wind direction. The number of guide vanes varied from 4, 8, and 16 with an angle of 45°. The testing was conducted in a wind tunnel at the wind speeds of 4 ㎧, 5 m/s and 6 ㎧. The turbine with the additional 16 guide vanes gave the best result. The static torsion increased by 84%, dynamic torsion increased by 57%, and the coefficient of power increased by 58% a t the speed of 4 ㎧.
Translingualism in Action : Rendering the Impossible Possible
Setiono Sugiharto 아시아영어교육학회 2015 The Journal of Asia TEFL Vol.12 No.2
Despite the relative novelty of the notion of translingualism in literacy pedagogy, this article attempts to provide additional evidence of translingual practices drawn from a specific context (i.e., Indonesia) in order to showcase its vibrancy. It attempts to answer the following research questions: 1) How do Indonesian multilingual writers and an Indonesian artist translanguage different linguistic codes? and 2) How do the textual realizations look as a result of their translanguaging process? Two types of translanguaged texts (academic texts written by two Indonesian scholars and an artistic work) were analyzed and scrutinized. All of these sample texts were coded, interpreted, and reinterpreted in light of the available theories on translingualism. This was done in order to extract instances of translanguaged texts. Results showed that translanguaging, which occurs at both lexical and morpho-syntactical levels, is inextricably connected to the writers’ identities, cultures, and rhetorical traditions. The writers’ purpose of codemeshing different linguistic codes in this study is deliberate in that they tried to infuse their cultural values and traditions in English texts to produce hybrid texts. As closing remarks, implications for translanguaging in writing pedagogy are offered, and caveats for doing translanguaging are addressed.
Identification of Chinese Cabbage Sentrin as a Suppressor of Bax-Induced Cell Death in Yeast
( Sawitri Widhi Dyah ),( Slameto Slameto ),( Bambang Sugiharto ),( Kyung Min Kim ) 한국미생물 · 생명공학회 2012 Journal of microbiology and biotechnology Vol.22 No.5
Studies into the cell death program termed apoptosis have resulted in new information regarding how cells control and execute their own demise, including insights into the mechanism by which death-preventing factors can inhibit Bax-induced caspase activation. We investigated high temperature stress-induced cell death in Brassica rapa. Using a yeast functional screening from a Brassica rapa cDNA library, the BH5-127 EST clone encoding an apoptotic suppressor peptide was identified. However, a phylogenic tree showed that BH5-127 clusters within a clade containing SUMO-1 (Small Ubiquitin-like Modifier- 1). BH5-127 was confirmed similar to have function to SUMO-1 as Fas suppression. Expression of BH5-127 showed that substantial suppression of cell death survived on SD-galactose-Leu--Ura- medium. The results suggest that BrSE (Brassica rapa Sentrin EST, BH5-127) is one of the important regulatory proteins in programming cell death, especially in the seedling stage of Chinese cabbage.
Expression of somatic embryogenesis-related genes in sugarcane (Saccharum officinarum L.)
Ahdatu Uli Khikamil Maulidiya,Bambang Sugiharto,Parawita Dewanti,Tri Handoyo 한국작물학회 2020 Journal of crop science and biotechnology Vol.23 No.3
The low frequency of plantlet regenerates from the somatic embryogenesis (SE) callus in sugarcane becomes a problem to produce its seed. Plant growth regulators were able to increase the regeneration frequency of SE to normal plantlets, such as 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid (2,4-D) as promoting callus induction. Since molecular mechanisms involved SE in sugarcane have not been reported, expression of Baby Boom (BBM) and Leafy Cotyledon (LEC) genes related to SE had investigated. The effect of diff erence concentration of 2,4-D on callus induction and expression of somatic embryogenesis-related genes (BBM and LEC) in sugarcane were important information for the increasing quantity and quality of seed production. The percentage of callus formation and embryogenic callus in the Murashige and Skoog’s (MS) medium contained 4 mg/L 2,4-D after 6 weeks cultivation were 76% and 86%, respectively. The MS + 4 mg/L 2,4-D medium was recommended for the large-scale embryogenic callus production from sugarcane explant. The high-level expression of BBM and LEC was shown in the embryogenic callus, which suggested that the expressions of both genes were believed to play on the somatic embryogenesis regulation in sugarcane.

Background: Gall Bladder Stone (Cholelithiasis) is considered as silent killer, as most of the patient come to see their doctors, if there is sudden acute upper gastrointestinal problems, such as vomitus that sometimes can lead to severe consequences. In this study we report the characteristic of GB Stones from Gading Pluit Hospital Indonesia Methods: From 2011-2013 we have conducted GB stone surgery, with laparoscopic approach. There has been 486 cases that have undergone the procedure. Blood sample are collected for routine blood examination, blood chesmistry, as well as collection of nucleated blood component for further genetic polymorphism study Results: Of the 486 cases collected, 128 (26.3%) cases are cholesterol stone, 232 (47.9%) cases are pigmented stones, 116 (23.9%) cases are mixed stones, and 9 cases can not be analized. The distribution among gender are for cholesterol stones 60 and 68: pigmented stones 108 and 125: mixed stones 49 and 67: 5 and 4 unidentifi ed stones for male and female respectively. As the characteristic of the GB stones compared to the stones reported by Western countries is different, further study regarding the genetic polymorphism of stones is underway Conclusions: GB Stones in Indonesia is different from Western Countries: the genetic polymorphism might play a signifi cant role.
