This study was carried to estimate the turbidity and organic removal efficiency of the coagulants, such as Alum, PACl, and PACS, depends on the variation of raw water quality. When turbidity, pH of the raw water quality were 1.0∼10.0NTU, 7.0NTU respectively, in other to get the goal water quality below 1.0NTU of turbidity, the optimum input doses of Alum, PACl, and PACS were 20∼30mg/ℓ, 10∼20mg/ℓ, and 10∼20 mg/ℓ, respectively. In that case of optimum input does, the removal efficiency of UV254 was about 30∼60%. When the turbidity, pH of the raw water quality were 10∼40NTU, around 7.0, respectively, the optimum input doses of PACl, and PACS were 30 mg/ℓ , 20 mg/ℓ, respectively But Alum, in other to get less than 2NTU of turbidity, was required to 50 mg/ℓ . In that case the removal efficiency of UV254 was also about 30∼60%.

This study was carried out to forecast the chloride concentration and to investigate the water quality for industrial water supply after closing the sluice gate in Keum river estuary reservoir. Chloride concentration was dilluted by input flow, depended on outside chlorine mass than inside mass form reservoir body. The forecasting equation for chloride concentration is got Ci=3700·e ?? + 405/ ?? +2.5 without considering input chloride concentration from upstream river. The water quality in intake station for industrial water supply was satisfied for the standard for industrial water supply, but requried the physico-chemical treatment owing to maximum values of turbidity, pH, TS, Fe, Mn were exceed the standard.

This survey was accomplished to know the characteristics on the variation of water quality around Daechung-dam regulating reservoir. The algae bloom occurres near the chungju and Taejon intake station in autumn every year. It is possible to cause the taste and odor problems in the water supply if this reservoir will be a intake station. The comparsions of water quality data between within main dam and around regulating reservoir during past about 5 years were investigated. The water quality of this reservoir was the raw water supply II class, but its quality was the raw water phosphorus concentration as compared with past 5 years is increasing to be about two times. When the algae bloom occurred, dominant algae species was Aulacoseira glanulata having no correlation with taste and odor.

The purpose of this study is to examine the association of bad breath and nicotine dependency. By use of the findings from this study, This study conducted the survey of 53 smoker who visited dental hygiene lab for delivery from October to November 2012 with structured questionnaires(Fagerstrom Tolerance Questionnaire FTQ) and equipment(CO measuring instrument, Oral Chroma etc). The data were analyzed by using SPSS 20.0 program for χ2-test, ANOVA. Smokers' average age was 23 years old. The more higher nicotine dependence the more the average age was higher. The more higher nicotine dependence the less to nque brushing. No association of nicotine dependence and self-bad breath level. CO State was Significant differences(ND1(M=2.58), ND2(M=3.98), ND3(M=7.41), ND4(M=4.19), ND5(M=13.14))(F=2.616, p=.047). Dimethyl Sulfide was Significant differences(F=3.026, p=.026).

<P>Methanol extract of Zizania latifolia was partitioned with EtOAc, n-BuOH, and H2O. From the EtOAc layers, a new flavonolignan along with a known flavone and three known flavonolignans, tricin (1), salcolin A (2), salcolin B (3), and salcolin C (4), were isolated through repeated silica gel and ODS column chromatography. The chemical structure of the new flavonolignan was determined to be tricin-4'-O-[erythro-β-guaiacyl-(7-O-methyl)-glyceryl] ether and was named salcolin D (5) based on physicochemical and spectroscopic data, including FT-NMR and ESI-MS. All compounds were isolated for the first time from this plant. Compounds 2-5, tricin derivatives, all exhibited higher anti-inflammatory and anti-allergy activities than tricin. In particular, salcolin D (5) was shown to have the strongest inhibitory activity against LPS-induced NO production in RAW 264.7 cells as well as β-hexosaminidase release in IgE-sensitized RBL-2H3 cells. These results suggest that the presence of tricin derivatives conveys allergy and inflammation treatment ability to Z. latifolia.</P>
Chronic saponin treatment attenuates damage to the pancreas in chronic alcohol-treated diabetic rats

Background: Chronic heavy alcohol consumption may raise the risk of developing type 2 diabetes mellitus. Saponins inhibit apoptosis of pancreatic islet cells and reduce lipid parameters. The present study was designed to investigate the effect of saponin on chronic ethanol-treated diabetic rats. Methods: LongeEvans Tokushima Fatty (LETO) and Otsuka LongeEvans Tokushima Fatty (OLETF) rats were pair-fed a LiebereDeCarli diet with and without 5% ethanol for 12 wks. Two weeks after starting the pair-feeding with the LiebereDeCarli diet, intraperitoneal injection of saponin was performed for 10 wks. To perform the experiments, rats were divided as follows: LETO-Control (LC), LETO-Ethanol (LE), LETOEthanol-Saponin (LES), OLETF-Control (OC), OLETF-Ethanol (OE), and OLETF-Ethanol-Saponin (OES). Results: The weights of epididymal and mesenteric fat tissue in LES and OES rats were the lightest from among the LETO and OLETF groups, respectively. The secretion of alanine aminotransferase and cholesterol in OES rats decreased significantly compared to their secretion in OC and OE rats, respectively. The islets of the pancreas in LE and OE rats showed clean, unclear, and smaller morphology compared to those of LC, LES, OC, and OES rats. In addition, the expression of insulin in the islets of the pancreas in LC, LES, OC, and OES rats was higher than in LE and OE rats. Conclusion: Saponin may not only be helpful in alleviating the rapid progress of diabetes due to chronic alcohol consumption in diabetic patients, but may also show potential as an antidiabetic drug candidate for diabetic patients who chronically consume alcohol.
Antibacterial and anti-inflammatory effects of Hericium erinaceus extract

This study was carried out to investigate the effects of Hericium erinaceus extract on the Anti- inflammatory and Anti-bacterial. To investigate in vitro Anti-bacterial activity assay, hot water extracts of Hericium erinaceus carried out using a broth micro-dillution method following the Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute guidlines(Citron and Hecht, 2003; Jorgensen and Turnidge, 2003). In the next experiment, to investigate anti-inflammatory test, the RAW 264.7 macrophage, cells was cultured using DMEM including the 10% FBS. Hericium erinaceus extract has the effects of anti-inflammation and, which may be due to its inhibitory potential on the macrophage activation. Furthermore, Hericium erinaceus extract has the anti-bacterial effects through the inhibitory Propionibacterium acnes(P. acnes) and periodontopathic bacteria, Porphyromonas gingivalis , Fusobacterium nucleatum and Tannerella forsythia. The above results suggest that Hericium erinaceus hot water extract could be applicable for improvement of several inflammatory disease.
