The gas-steam turbine combined cycle is used as one method to increasing the thermal efficiency of the heat power plant. The efficiency of the combined cycle is investigated in this paper through thermodynamical analysis. The thermal efficiency of the combined cycle is enlarged with increasing the heat supplied ratio through the gas turbine. When the heat supplied ratio equal to 1, i.e. the fuel is supplied solely through the gas turbine, the thermal efficiency of conmbined cycle is affected linearly and almost with same intensity by cycle efficiencies of steam power plant and of gas turbine.

The dependence of larminar burning velocity on mass flow rate effected by inlet thermodynamic properties has been investigated. It was found that the larminar burning velocity in a spark ignition engine increases linearly with increasing of inlet pressure and decreases linearly with increasing of inlet temperature. This results are different from those obtained in a premixed combustion chamber with' constant reactants concentration. A correction factor on Kuehl's equation, which can be applied for the larminar burning velocity in a spark ignition engine is presented. A model analysis is also presented which can be applied to any kind of combustion chamber shape and ignition location.

Primary thyroid lymphomas constitute of up to 5% of all thyroid malignancies. Recently, mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue (MALT) lymphoma are relatively recognized as a B cell subset of non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. MALT-lymphomas are thought to develop from acquired lymphocytic tissue during the course of a chronic inflammatory or autoimmune process. In the thyroid , which is normally devoid of lymphocytic tissue, chronic autoimmune thyroiditis (Hashimoto's disease) has been associated with an increased risk of lymphoma, including MALT type. The clinical presentations include the enlarging of the neck mass, dysphagia, hoarsenes and choking or cold thyroid nodule. We report a case of MALToma of the thyroid accompanied by Hashimoto's thyroiditis with a review of the literature.(Korean J Med 61:281-285, 2001)

<P>The Korean prostrate spurge <I>Euphorbia supina</I> is a weed that has been used in folk medicine in Korea against a variety of diseases. Nine polyphenols were characterized for this plant by using high-performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (HPLC-MS/MS) and the results were compared with the literature data. The individual components were validated using the calibration curves of structurally related external standards and quantified for the first time by using the validated method. Correlation coefficients (<I>r</I>2) were >0.9907. The limit of detection and limit of quantification of the method were >0.028 mg/L and 0.094 mg/L, respectively. Recoveries measured at 50 mg/L and 100 mg/L were 76.1–102.8% and 85.2–98.6%, respectively. The total amount of the identified polyphenols was 3352.9 ± 2.8 mg/kg fresh plant. Quercetin and kaempferol derivatives formed 84.8% of the total polyphenols. The antioxidant activities of the flavonoids were evaluated in terms of 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl and 2,2′-azinobis(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid) radical cation-scavenging activity, and the reducing power showed a dose-dependent increase. Cell viability was effectively suppressed at polyphenol mixture concentrations >250 mg/L.</P>
Transport Properties of Lennard-Jones Mixtures: A Molecular Dynamics Simulation Study
Lee, Song-Hi Korean Chemical Society 2008 Bulletin of the Korean Chemical Society Vol.29 No.3
Equilibrium molecular dynamics simulations in a canonical ensemble are performed to evaluate the transport coefficients of several Lennard-Jones (LJ) mixtures at a liquid argon states of 94.4 K and 1 atm via modified Green-Kubo formulas. Two component mixture of A and B is built by considering the interaction between A and A as the attractive (A) potential, that between A and B as the attractive potential (A), and that between B and B as the repulsive potential (R), labelled as AAR mixture. Three more mixtures - ARA, ARR, and RAR are created in the same way. The behavior of the LJ energy and the transport properties for all the mixtures is easily understood in terms of the portion of attractive potential (A %). The behavior of the thermal conductivities by the translational energy transport due to molecular motion exactly coincides with that of diffusion constant while that of the thermal conductivities by the potential energy transport due to molecular motion is easily understood from the fact that the LJ energy of AAR, ARR, and RAR mixtures increases negatively with the increase of A % from that of the pure repulsive system while that of ARA changes rarely.

The velocity auto-correlation (VAC) function of liquid argon in the Green-Kubo formula decays quickly within 5 ps to give a well-defined diffusion coefficient because the velocity is the property of each individual particle, whereas the stress (SAC) and heat-flux auto-correlation (HFAC) functions for shear viscosity and thermal conductivity have non-decaying, long-time tails because the stress and heat-flux appear as system properties. This problem can be overcome through N (number of particles)-fold improvement in the statistical accuracy, by considering the stress and the heat-flux of the system as properties of each particle and by deriving new Green-Kubo formulas for shear viscosity and thermal conductivity. The results obtained for the transport coefficients of liquid argon obtained are discussed.
