        Salt content of school meals and comparison of perception related to sodium intake in elementary, middle, and high schools

        Excessive sodium intake leading to hypertension, stroke, and stomach cancer is mainly caused by excess use of salt in cooking. This study was performed to estimate the salt content in school meals and to compare differences in perceptions related to sodium intake between students and staffs working for school meal service. We collected 382 dishes for food from 24 schools (9 elementary, 7 middle, 8 high schools) in Gyeonggi-do and salt content was calculated from salinity and weight of individual food. The average salt content from elementary, middle, and high school meals were 2.44 g, 3.96 g, and 5.87 g, respectively. The amount of salt provided from the school lunch alone was over 80% of the recommended daily salt intake by WHO. Noodles, stews, sauces, and soups were major sources of salt intake at dish group level, while the most salty dishes were sauces, kimchies, and stir-fried foods. Dietary knowledge and attitude related to sodium intake and consumption frequency of the salty dishes were surveyed with questionnaire in 798 students and 256 staffs working for school meal service. Compared with the staffs, the students perceived school meals salty and the proportions of students who thought school meals were salty increased with going up from elementary to high schools (P < 0.001). Among the students, middle and high school students showed significant propensity for the preference to one-dish meal, processed foods, eating much broth and dipping sauce or seasoning compared with the elementary students, although they had higher nutrition knowledge scores. These results proposed that monitoring salt content of school meals and consideration on the contents and education methods in school are needed to lower sodium intake.

        Efficacy and Safety of Pregabalin for Muscle Cramps in Liver Cirrhosis: A Double-Blind Randomized Controlled Trial

        Background: Muscle cramp is possibly related to peripheral nerve hyperexcitability (PNH), and one of the most debilitating symptoms frequently encountered in patients with liver cirrhosis. We investigated whether pregabalin, a gamma-aminobutyric acid analogue, can suppress neuronal excitability and reduce muscle cramps in cirrhotic patients. Methods: We conducted a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial in which study participants with cirrhosis from a single tertiary center were enrolled. Primary endpoint was the relative change in cramp frequency from the run-in to standard dose treatment phase (4 weeks per each). Secondary endpoints included the responder rate, and the changes in cramp frequency during sleep, pain intensity, health-related quality of life (Liver Disease Quality of Life Instrument, Short Form-36) and electrophysiological measures of PNH. Results: This study was terminated early because of insufficient accrual. 80% (n = 56) of the target number of participants (n = 70) were randomized to pregabalin (n = 29) or placebo (n = 27). Median baseline frequency of muscle cramps (interquartile range) was 5.8 (3.5–10) per week in the pregabalin group and 6.5 (4.0–10) in the placebo group (P = 0.970). The primary analysis showed a significant reduction in cramp frequency with pregabalin compared to placebo (−36% vs. 4.5% for the percentage change, P = 0.010). Secondary outcomes did not differ significantly between the two groups. Adverse effects with pregabalin were mainly dizziness and lethargy. Conclusion: With multiple problems emerging from premature termination in mind, the results suggested an acceptable safety profile and favorable effect of pregabalin in reducing muscle cramps compared to placebo in cirrhotic patients.

        An Empirical Approach to Dosimetric Effect of Carbon Fiber Couch for Flattening Filter Free Beam of Elekta LINAC

        Generally, it is recommended that the dosimetric effect of carbon fiber couch should be considered especially for an intensity-modulated therapy with a large portion of monitor units from posterior angles. Even a flattening filter free (FFF) beam has been used for stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT), the effect of carbon fiber couch for FFF beam is not well known. This work is an effort to evaluate the dosimetric effect of carbon fiber couch for flattened and FFF beam of Elekta linac empirically. The absorbed doses were measured with Farmer type chamber and water-equivalent phantoms with and without couch. And differences of the absorbed doses between with and without couch defined as "couch effect". By comparing calculated dose in treatment planning system (TPS) with measured dose, the optimal density of couch was evaluated. Finally, differences on patient's skin dose and target dose by couch were evaluated in TPS. As a result, the couch effect for 6 and 10 MV flattened beam were -2.71% and -2.32%, respectively. These values were agreed with provided data by vendor within 0.5%. The couch effect for 6 and 10 MV FFF beam were -3.75% and -2.80%, respectively. The patient's skin dose was increased as 18.6% and target dose was decreased as 0.87%, respectively. It was realized that the couch effect of FFF beam was more severe than that of flattened beam. Patient's skin dose and target dose were changed by the couch effect.

        송상희: 신화에 저항하는 노골(露骨)의 서정

        송상희는 특유의 직접성과 서정성을 바탕으로 역사의 장면이나 사회의 모습을 재현하는 작업을 해왔는데, 그 방식은 비극적 사건 앞에서 단순한 희화화나 연민에 그칠 수 있다는 비판의 소지가 있었다. 그러나 발췌, 수집, 반복 등의 내용 구성과 영상, 텍스트, 설치 등의 다양한 매체 사용은 서술의 관성을 깨트리는 일명 반서술의 방식으로 독해될 수 있으며, 송상희의 반서술은 관객으로 하여금 ‘익숙함’으로 인한 신화, ‘재현불가능성’의 신화, 그리고 현대 미술의 전유의 신화로부터 거리를 두게 한다. 이런 송상희의 방식에 대해 ‘노골성’을 어원으로 재해석하여 ‘뼈를 이슬 맞히다’라는 의미를 추가하여 규정할 수 있다. Sanghee Song has been working on representing historical and social scenes with her characteristic directness and lyricism, and there could be a criticism that her method could be merely a caricature or pity in front of the tragedy. However, the composition of content such as excerpts, collections, and repetitions and the use of various media such as images, texts, and installations can be read in a so-called ‘dysnarration’ that breaks the inertia of narrative. Her dysnarration makes viewer distanciate from the myth of "code recognition", the myth of ‘unreprsentibility’, and the myth of appropriation in contemporary art. Her method can be determined as ‘exposing bone to dew’ by reinterpreting etymologically the Korean word ‘노골(露骨)’-meaning unconcealedness.

        대체육 유형에 따른 소비자의 지각된 혜택이 신뢰 및 구매의도에 미치는 영향

        본 연구에서는 대체육의 유형을 식물육과 배양육으로 구분하여 소비자의 지각된 혜택의 차이와 식품안전 인증라벨 유무에 따른 지각된 혜택의 차이를 검증하고자 하였다. 나아가, 지각된 혜택과 신뢰 및 구매 의도 사이의 영향 관계를 알아보고자 하였다. 실증분석 결과 첫째, 소비자는 대체육 유형이 배양육일 때보다 식물육일 때 혜택을 더 높게 지각한다고 나타났다. 둘째, 대체육 유형과 지각된 혜택의 관계에 있어서 식품안전 인증의 조절 효과는 배양육에 대해서만 유의하게 나타났다. 즉, 소비자들은 배양육이 주는 환경, 건강 혜택을 식품안전 인증 라벨이 제시될 때 더 높게 지각하는 것으로 나타나 식품안전 인증의 후광효과 또한 입증하였다. 마지막으로 소비자의 지각된 환경 혜택과 건강 혜택은 신뢰와 구매 의도에 모두 유의한 영향을 미치고, 신뢰는 구매 의도에 유의한 영향을 미친다고 밝혀졌다. In this study, the type of meat alternatives was divided into Plant-based meat and Cultured meat, which tested the difference between perceived benefits from consumers and perceived benefits with food safety certification labels. Furthermore, the relationship between perceived benefits, and trust, and purchase intention was investigated. The results were as follows. first, Consumers perceived the benefits higher when the meat alternatives type was Plant-based meat than when it was Cultured meat. Second, in the relationship between the type of meat alternatives and perceived benefits, the moderating effect of food safety certification was significant only for cultured meat. In other words, consumers perceived the environmental and health benefits of cultured meat higher when the food safety certification label is presented, demonstrating the halo effect of food safety certification. Finally, the perceived environmental benefits and health benefits of consumers were found to have a significant effect on both trust and purchase intention, and trust was found to have a significant effect on purchase intention.

        GMO와 Non-GMO 라벨에 따른 소비자의 지각된 혜택이 신뢰 및 구매 의도에 미치는 영향

        최근 식품의 안정적인 공급과 지속 가능한 환경의 중요성이 부각되면서, 외식 산업에서는 식물성 원료로 만든 대체육이 지속 가능한 단백질 섭취 수단으로 주목받고 있다. 본 연구는 현재 주목받고 있는 식품 소재 식물육을 라벨 없음과 GMO, Non-GMO로 구분하여 소비자가 인식하는 지각된 혜택의 차이와 식품 안전 인증 라벨(HACCP)의 조절 효과에 대해 분석하였다. 나아가, 지각된 혜택이 신뢰와 구매 의도에 미치는 영향에 대해 알아보고자 하였다. 실증분석 결과 첫째, 소비자들은 Non-GMO, 라벨 없음, GMO 순으로 환경 혜택과 건강 혜택을 높게 지각한다는 결과가 나타났다. 둘째, 식물육 유형과 지각된 혜택의 관계에서 식품 안전 인증 라벨의 조절 효과는 유의하지 않았다. 셋째, 소비자의 지각된 환경 및 건강 혜택은 신뢰와 구매 의도에 유의한 영향을 미쳤으며, 신뢰는 구매 의도에 긍정적인 영향을 미친다고 밝혀졌다. 본 연구는 식물육을 외식 산업 연구에 적용하고, 소비자의 인식을 건강과 환경 혜택에 적용시켜 연구의 범위를 확장했다는 점에서 의의가 있다. 뿐만 아니라, 식품 안전 인증의 이점을 마케팅 전략에 적용하여 소비자들에게 안전하고 건강한 소비를 촉진할 수 있는 실무적인 시사점을 제공하고 있다. In recent years, there has been an emphasis on food safety and sustainability. As a result, plant-based alternative meats have gained traction in the food industry as a sustainable source of protein. This study analyzed differences in consumer perceived benefits by categorizing types of plant-based meat currently in the spotlight as unlabeled, GMO, and Non-GMO, and by examining differences in perceived benefits with the presence or absence of a HACCP label. Additionally, this study explores the relationship between perceived benefits, trust, and purchase intention. The analysis results show that consumers perceive greater environmental and health benefits in the order of Non-GMO, unlabeled, and GMO. The moderating effect of food safety certification was found to be insignificant. The perceived environmental and health benefits of plant-based meat have a significant impact on both trust and purchase intention. This study expands upon existing literature by analyzing the implementation of plant-based meat in the food service industry and evaluating consumer attitudes towards its environmental and health benefits.

        Influence of a Localized Transverse Magnetic Field on Dose Distributions of MV Photon Beams in Inhomogeneous Medium

        The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of the dose distributions caused by a low-strength magnetic field transverse to the incident photon beams in inhomogeneous medium of the body such as the lung. A simple water-air-water phantom was used to evaluate the magnetic field induced dose effect by the field size of the beam and the beam energy. The Gafchromic BET3 self-developing dosimetry film was utilized for all measurements. Our results indicated that a localized magnetic field within the air region offers the capability of producing dose enhancement and dose reduction regions between the proximal and distal interfaces. It was demonstrated that the magnitude of the dose perturbation depends not only on the beam energy, but also on the field size of the beam. It is expected that this magnet technology could be further developed to provide higher dose to the tumor and lower dose to the normal tissue in radiation therapy for lung cancer
