Coupler systems of trains are composed of buffer or hydraulic elements. These coupler systems can protect the train against the collision because the systems absorb the impact of the collision. The dynamic behavior of the coupler systems depends on the number of the cars which compose the train and stiffness of the cars. To analyze the dynamic behavior of the coupler systems, simulator is introduced in this paper, by which maximum force of the coupler systems and velocity of the cars can be calculated. In general, the first coupler which is attached at the front of the train gets the maximum force at simulation, and the maximum force of the first coupler doesn't relate to the number of the train when the number is bigger than three. The maximum force of the first coupler, however, increases along the stiffness of the cars because the maximum force increases as the period of the impact is shorten. The period approximately can be acquired from the stiffness of the coupler systems and the stiffness of the cars, so the maximum force, which affects the life time of the coupler systems, can be optimized if the coupler system is well designed.

Abstract

Owing to growing economic growth in tandem with regional economic developments on the route connecting Asia and sub-Saharan Africa (SSA), several countries in the SSA region such as South Africa have been developing container ports. This paper analyzes potential trunk line routes and transshipment flows that could be captured by potential hub ports in the SSA region. To this end, integer programing models are developed to represent liner shipping networks in the SSA region and a wide variety of numerical experiments based on realistic data are conducted for the SSA-Europe and SSA-Asia trade routes. This paper draws various meaningful policy and managerial implications through scenario analyses such as the effects of network evolution, different vessel sizes and speeds, carbon taxes and insights in association with the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road initiated by China.

Highlights

Analyze potential trunk line routes and transshipment flows that could be captured by hub ports in sub-Saharan Africa.

Develop a model to determine container cargo flows, vessel routes, and the number of vessels per week.

Conduct a variety of numerical experiments for the SSA-Europe and SSA-Asia trade routes.

Draw practical implications through scenario analyses on effects of network evolution, different vessel sizes and speeds.

In order to investigate the factors that microbial diversity in Meju affects the quality, we collected traditional Meju from across the country and analyzed the microbial community structure through next-generation sequencing. Sixty traditional Meju samples were collected for analysis in 9 regions: Gyeonggi, Gangwon, Chungbuk, Chungnam, Jeonbuk, Jeonnam, Gyeongbuk, Gyeongnam, and Jeju. Using the Illumina iSeq™ 100 System, metagenomics sequencing was performed based on the bacterial 16S rRNA gene and the fungal ITS gene sequence. To validate the performance of the instrument using the ATCC microbiome standard, 20 strains of staggered mixed genomic material (ATCC MSA-1003) were included for sequencing. Total Reads (Reads Passing Quality Filtering) was over 100,000. At the genus level, Bacillus, Aspergillus, Enterococcus, Weissella, Pediococcus, Clostridium, etc. were present in all Meju samples. Bacillus (30.2∼95.4%) and Aspergillus were dominant bacteria in Meju. The distribution of the microbial community of Meju did not have much regional similarity and varied greatly by producer.

In this paper, we develop a new mass conservative numerical scheme for the simulations of a class of fluid-structure interaction problems. We will use the immersed boundary method to model the fluid-structure interaction, while the fluid flow is governed by the incompressible Navier-Stokes equations. The immersed boundary method is proven to be a successful scheme to model fluid-structure interactions. To ensure mass conservation, we will use the staggered discontinuous Galerkin method to discretize the incompressible Navier-Stokes equations. The staggered discontinuous Galerkin method is able to preserve the skew-symmetry of the convection term. In addition, by using a local postprocessing technique, the weakly divergence free velocity can be used to compute a new postprocessed velocity, which is exactly divergence free and has a superconvergence property. This strongly divergence free velocity field is the key to the mass conservation. Furthermore, energy stability is improved by the skew-symmetric discretization of the convection term. We will present several numerical results to show the performance of the method.

Hybrid system has two compatible power resources, an engine and a battery, and the strategies to control these two power resources cannot be simplified as an explicit algorithm because we'd like to sustain the state of charge of the battery within reasonable revel. Expect debating on how we can make optimal controllers, we might be able to draw the optimal trajectory with optimization methods if we already knew about the schedule of the driving cycle. These paper studies the optimization method of the fuel consumption for hybrid electrical vehicles with the method of Dynamic Programming, which was introduced Richard Bellman. DP is an effective method to get optimal trajectories when the systems have complicated and nonlinear behavior, and where there are several intricate constraints for control variables. We also discussed about the analytical approach for these optimal problems with a method of calculus of variation, which gives us the intuition about the optimal control of the hybrid system.

Dual mode hybrid systems are composed of few combined planetary gear sets. One planetary gear set has two DOF(degree of freedom) and the DOF increases when planetary gear sets are added, so it is complicate to analyze the systems. Methodologies of combining the planetary gear sets can be various methods, but it is needed that the methodologies have consistency. To the consistency, the equivalent parameters, α', β', R'a, R'b are introduced in this paper, and the arbitrary system, E-IVT(Electric Infinitely Variable Transmission) developed by Renault, is converted to the equivalent system with these parameters. Furthermore, the system efficiency can be represented by these parameters at hybrid mode, and the strategies of controlling the compound split can be improved by the analysis of the compound splits in this paper.
Sequence-specific interaction between ABD-B homeodomain and castor gene in Drosophila
( Keon Hee Kim ),( Siu K Yoo ) 생화학분자생물학회 2014 BMB Reports Vol.47 No.2
We have examined the effect of bithorax complex genes on the expression of castor gene. During the embryonic stages 12-15, both Ultrabithorax and abdominal-A regulated the castor gene expression negatively, whereas Abdominal-B showed a positive correlation with the castor gene expression according to real-time PCR. To investigate whether ABD-B protein directly interacts with the castor gene, electrophoretic mobility shift assays were performed using the recombinant ABD-B homeodomain and oligonucleotides, which are located within the region 10 kb upstream of the castor gene. The results show that ABD-B protein directly binds to the castor gene specifically. ABD-B binds more strongly to oligonucleotides containing two 5`-TTAT-3` canonical core motifs than the probe containing the 5`-TTAC-3` motif. In addition, the sequences flanking the core motif are also involved in the protein-DNA interaction. The results demonstrate the importance of HD for direct binding to target sequences to regulate the expression level of the target genes. [BMB Reports 2014; 47(2): 92-97]
