Evaluation of combat calorie consumption based on GoBe2 nanosensor
Shuo Guan,Benxu Zou Techno-Press 2023 Advances in nano research Vol.14 No.6
Measuring energy burn during intensive combat sport has been a challenging concerns for a long time. In the present article, the energy consumption during combat sports is measured by use of wearable GoBe2 equipped with nanotechnology measuring devices. In this regard, 12 professional combat athletes were asked to wear GoBe2 devices during different sessions of intensive combat exercises. The curves provided by GoBe2 nano-sensor devices are further collected and analyzed for different combat durations. On the other hand, energy consumption in these athlete is calculated using other validated methods to evaluate reliability of GoBe2 wearable devices. Based on the results obtained from these experiments a multi-parameter mathematical model is presented for estimation of combat calorie consumptions. The results show that nanotechnology in these type of sensors could help in estimation of calorie consumption during combat. Moreover, the reliability of using wearable GoBe2 sensors are satisfactory except for some specific conditions. The mathematical model provides a satisfactory results based on athlete physical condition and also duration of the combat with about 8% error margin in the results.

Exercise is beneficial to the body in some ways. It is vital for people who have heart problems to perform exercise according to their condition. This paper describes how an Android platform can provide early warnings of fatigue during wushu exercise using Photoplethysmography (PPG) signals. Using the data from a micro-electro-mechanical system (MEMS) gyroscope to detect heart rate, this study contributes an algorithm to determine a user's fatigue during wushu exercise. It sends vibration messages to the user's smartphone device when the heart rate exceeds the limit or is too fast during exercise. The heart rate monitoring system in the app records heart rate data in real-time while exercising. A simple pulse sensor and Android app can be used to monitor heart rate. This plug-in sensor measures heart rate based on photoplethysmography (PPG) signals during exercise. Pulse sensors can be easily inserted into the fingertip of the user. An embedded microcontroller detects the heart rate by connecting a pulse sensor transmitted via Bluetooth to the smartphone. In order to measure the impact of physical activity on heart rate, Wushu System tests are conducted using various factors, such as age, exercise speed, and duration. During testing, the Android app was found to detect heart rate with an accuracy of 95.3% and to warn the user when their heart rate rises to an abnormal level.

Natural gamma-decalactone (GDL) produced by biotransformation is an essential food additive with a peach-like aroma. However, the difficulty of effectively controlling the concentration of the substrate ricinoleic acid (RA) in water limits the biotransformation productivity, which is a bottleneck for industrialization. In this study, expanded vermiculite (E-V) was utilized as a carrier of RA to increase its distribution in the medium. E-V and three commonly used organic compounds were compared with respect to their effects on the biotransformation process, and the mechanism was revealed. Scanning electron microscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and thermogravimetric analysis indicated that RA was physically adsorbed onto the surface of and inside E-V instead of undergoing a chemical reaction, which increased the opportunity for interactions between microorganisms and the substrate. The highest concentration of GDL obtained in the medium with E-V was 6.2 g/l, which was 50% higher than that in the reference sample. In addition, the presence of E-V had no negative effect on the viability of the microorganisms. This study provides a new method for producing natural GDL through biotransformation on an industrial scale.
Wide-range Wavelength-tunable RCLEDs
Bao-Lu Guan,Xia Guo,Xiu-Juan Ren,Shuo Li 한국물리학회 2011 THE JOURNAL OF THE KOREAN PHYSICAL SOCIETY Vol.58 No.41
A tunable oxide-confined AlGaAs/GaAs resonant-cavity light-emitting diode (RCLED) with a wide-range tuning wavelength was demonstrated. A quarter-wave stack as a movable Microelectronic system (MEMS)-bridge was used and realized a 27 nm tuning range from a resonance of 972 nm to 945 nm and the corresponding bias between the top bridge and the bottom mirror increased from 0 - 23 V. The tuning efficiency of δλ/λ0 reached 2.8%. The spectral and the mechanical characteristics of the MEMS-tunable RCLED are also discussed, and the photon lifetime in the FP cavity was modulated in period by the bridge displacement.
