Meta-Analysis Exploring the Effects of Music Training in Cochlear Implant Users by Age
Shukor Nor Farawaheeda Ab,Seo Young Joon,Han Woojae 대한청각학회 2023 Journal of Audiology & Otology Vol.27 No.4
Background and Objectives: The present study aimed to explore meaningful change in the musical performance of cochlear implant (CI) users according to age after receiving music training compared to the other CI users who did not receive any music training and normal hearing (NH) listeners.Materials and Methods: Article search was conducted from five journal databases. In accordance with PICOS criteria, 29 articles and 15 articles were included for the CI and NH groups, respectively. A total of 44 articles consisting of 407 CI users and 486 NH participants were then analyzed. Using the data gathered from pre- and post-training, meta-analysis was applied by the random-effects model, and then piecewise meta-regression was employed. Results: CI users with music training showed better performance than those without the training across all ages. The curve change in musical performance when training showed that the CI users was similar to the general pattern of NH performance, indicating that the CI users gained benefits from music training and developed perceptual ability, even though it was not as high as the level of NH counterparts. Conclusions: This finding supports the benefits of active engagement with music for both CI users and NH listeners, while noting the important role of music as one of the primary aural rehabilitation approaches.

The aim of this paper is to assess the mediating effect of self-congruity on the relationship between susceptibility to interpersonal influence and status consumption. The findings of this paper are based on 222 sample. The paper utilises Baron and Kenny procedure and Sobel test to examine the mediation effects of self-congruity on the relationship between susceptibility to interpersonal influence and status consumption. Results indicate that self-congruity played a mediating role in the effect of susceptibility to interpersonal influence on status consumption. A partial type of mediation was established. Possible areas for further research are indicated at the end of the paper.

This study aimed to evaluate the efficacy of music training on the improvement of musical perception among hearing-impaired listeners using a systematic review and meta-analysis. Article search was conducted from five databases, Scopus, ScienceDirect, Web of Knowledge, CINAHL, and PubMed. A total of 186 participants from 10 studies investigating the music training effects on individuals fitted with hearing assistive devices and outcome measurements were included. The meta-analysis showed standardized mean difference as a measure of the effect size, in musical improvement between the pre- and post-training. Although the funnel plot yielded an asymmetrical graph, the Egger’s regression showed no significant publication bias. Interestingly, subgroup analysis showed that the training effect was greater in children than in adults. With a necessity of longer training period to significantly improve their musical perception, cochlear implant only users had better effect compared to bi-modal users with both cochlear implant and hearing aids. However, the difference in the training effect between the users with and without previous musical experience was nonsignificant. The present study concludes that auditory music training brings hearing-impaired listeners into better musical perception while informing that training effects differ depending on age, duration of the training, and the type of hearing device used.

Energy conservation is a vital issue in wireless sensor networks. Recently, employing mobile sinks for data gathering become a pervasive trend to deal with this problem. The sink can follow stochastic or pre-defined paths; however the controlled mobility pattern nowadays is taken more into consideration. In this method, the sink moves across the network autonomously and changes its position based on the energy factors. Although the sink mobility would reduce nodes` energy consumption and enhance the network lifetime, the overhead caused by topological changes could waste unnecessary power through the sensor field. In this paper, we proposed EEDARS, an energy-efficient dual-sink algorithm with role switching mechanism which utilizes both static and mobile sinks. The static sink is engaged to avoid any periodic flooding for sink localization, while the mobile sink adaptively moves towards the event region for data collection. Furthermore, a role switching mechanism is applied to the protocol in order to send the nearest sink to the recent event area, hence shorten the path. This algorithm could be employed in event-driven and multi-hop scenarios. Analytical model and extensive simulation results for EEDARS demonstrate a significant improvement on the network metrics especially the lifetime, the load and the end-to-end delay.

Pr-substituted (Dy1. xPrx)BaSrCu3O7. d (x ¼ 0:elastic properties. Structural transition from orthorhombic to tetragonal symmetry is observed atx ¼ 0:1. Temperature-dependent sound velocity was measured using the pulse-echo overlap method. Elastic anomalies in the form of lattice stien-ing with decreasing temperature were observed above 200 K. These anomalies were attributed to oxygen vacancy orderingsin the Cu(1)O plane and also depended on the congurational state of oxygen orderings which is strongly inuenced by Pr-doping.. 2003 Elsevier B.V. Near Bed Turbulence Measurement with Acoustic Doppler Velocimeter (ADV)
M. S. Sulaiman,S. K. Sinnakaudan,M. R. Shukor 대한토목학회 2013 KSCE Journal of Civil Engineering Vol.17 No.6
Acoustic Doppler Velocimeter (ADV) has become prominent device in flow and turbulence measurement. The in situ turbulence measurement requires laboratory-quality data to be obtained in the field. Thus, ADV vector type provides a better choice for flow measurement at field scale. A field study was undertaken at sand-gravel bed rivers to observe the flow field and turbulence characteristics in the presence of protuberant clast. Profile measurements were executed at near bed region to characterize the flow and turbulence characteristics at the proximity of clast reference. Four major areas were identified as sampling location relative to clast reference namely stoss side, adjacent area, wake area and the downstream area. Besides, bed load measurement was carried out concurrently to elucidate the possible relation between flow variation and transport rates. Physical meaning of flow field is expressed in term of mean velocity, turbulent intensity, turbulent kinetic energy, Reynolds stresses and horizontal-vertical interaction, local bed shear stress and quadrant analysis. It is postulated that the presence of protuberant clast modifies flow field and affect transport rates. Possible occurrences of transport rates are subject to accurate estimation of acting forces on moving particles. Estimation of critical Shields stress from Reynolds extrapolation provides better comparison with actual transport rates. Besides, contribution rate to Reynolds stress analysis compliment the importance of sweeps and ejection events to occurrence of bed load transport.

The 2.5D cutting operations are intended for creating NC programs for components with pockets, lugs, flat sections etc, for which,it is too time consuming to produce a 3D volume model of the component. A 2.5D machining processes can perform the cutting operation only in two of the three axes at a time, the movement of the cutter on the main planes before moves to the next depth produced a terrace-like approximation of the required shape. However, adopting the right cutting parameters could be an ideal solution to improve the product quality. This study focused on optimizing the cutting parameters for higher surface quality in 2.5D cutting utilizing titanium coated carbide ball end mill. These parameters include; machined surface inclined angle, axial depth of cut, spindle speed and feed rate. Taguchi optimization method is the most effective method to optimize the cutting parameters, in which the most significant response variables could be identified. The standard orthogonal array of L9 (34) is used, while the signal to noise (S/N), target performance measurement (TPM) response analysis and analysis of variance (Pareto ANOVA) methods are carried out to determine which parameters are statistically significant. Finally, confirmation tests are carried out to investigate the optimization improvements.
