Chinese Tea Ceremony

        Shu-meng Huang,Jin He 한국차학회 2015 한국차학회지 Vol.- No.S

Chinese tea ceremony is not only the art of drinking tea, but also a way to spend your lifetime enjoying tea artistically. It is the perfect combinations of aesthetics, literature, painting, calligraphy, and music. We could enjoy teaby smelling, looking, and tasting. Moreover, we could cultivate our tastes in the poetic atmosphere made by drinking tea. It is the material and spiritual enjoyment that we get from tea ceremony. During the long history of Chinese tea culture, people always have been fond of tea ceremony. The aesthetics of Chinese tea ceremony began from Jin Dynasty, but formed at Tang Dynasty eventually. And The Book of Tea written by Lu Yu who was the master of tea in Tang Dynasty was the sign of tea ceremony becoming mature. From ancient times to nowadays, Chinese tea ceremony has great culture accumulations. In Wei and Jin Dynasties, and Tang Dynasty, the Fried Tea was very popular. However, Diancha became popular in the late years of Tang Dynasty and Song Dynasty. Using different hand tricks in Diancha, various strange patterns could be formed on the surface of the tea water. After that, brewing tea replaced the status of Diancha in Ming Dynasty. So Chinese tea ceremony not only has absorbed the essence of Chinese traditional culture, but has kept pace with the times as well. And it has always been loved by royalty, refined scholars, monks and priests. Furthermore, it has also been popular in common people. Chinese Tea ceremony is the treasure of Chinese traditional culture.

Yersinia pseudotuberculosis Exploits CD209 Receptors for Promoting Host Dissemination and Infection

        He, Ying-Xia,Ye, Cheng-Lin,Zhang, Pei,Li, Qiao,Park, Chae Gyu,Yang, Kun,Jiang, Ling-Yu,Lv, Yin,Ying, Xiao-Ling,Ding, Hong-Hui,Huang, Hong-Ping,Mambwe Tembo, John,Li, An-Yi,Cheng, Bing,Zhang, Shu-Sheng American Society for Microbiology 2019 Infection and immunity Vol.87 No.1

It disseminates from gut to mesenteric lymph nodes (MLNs), spleen, and liver of infected humans and animals. Although the molecular mechanisms for dissemination and infection are unclear, many Gram-negative enteropathogens presumably invade the small intestine via Peyer’s patches to initiate dissemination. In this study, we demonstrate that Y. pseudotuberculosis utilizes its lipopolysaccharide (LPS) core to interact with CD209 receptors, leading to invasion of human dendritic cells (DCs) and murine macrophages. These Y. pseudotuberculosis-CD209 interactions result in bacterial dissemination to MLNs, spleens, and livers of both wild-type and Peyer’s patch-deficient mice. The blocking of the Y. pseudotuberculosis-CD209 interactions by expression of O-antigen and with oligosaccharides reduces infectivity. Based on the well-documented studies in which HIV-CD209 interaction leads to viral dissemination, we therefore propose an infection route for Y. pseudotuberculosis where this pathogen, after penetrating the intestinal mucosal membrane, hijacks the Y. pseudotuberculosis-CD209 interaction antigen-presenting cells to reach their target destinations, MLNs, spleens, and livers.

Characterization of Cucurbita maxima Fruit Metabolomic Profiling and Transcriptome to Reveal Fruit Quality and Ripening Gene Expression Patterns

        He-Xun Huang,Ting Yu,Jun-Xing Li,Shu-Ping Qu,왕만만,Ting-Quan Wu,Yu-Juan Zhong 한국식물학회 2019 Journal of Plant Biology Vol.62 No.3

Pumpkin (Cucurbita maxima) fruit is the importantdietary source of carotenoid and is known for the goodflavour and texture due to the accumulation of sugar andstarch. However, lack of transcriptional information hindersour understanding of the molecular mechanisms underlyingfruit quality attributes and nutrition in C. maxima. To provideinsight into transcriptional regulation of fruit quality formationof C. maxima, quality analysis and high-throughput RNAsequencing of fruits at different developing stages werecharacterized. The quality analyses consist of dry mattervalues, percent soluble solids, carotenoid contents, and starchand sugar contents in seven stages of fruit development. Fruit transcriptome of C. maxima at five stages throughoutdevelopment was assembled to elucidate the molecularregulation of fruit development. Almost 18 billion nucleotidebases were sequenced in total, and 48,471 unigenes weredetected. A total of 32,397 (66.8%) unigenes were identifiedto be differentially expressed. We found there was a correlationbetween ripening-associated transcripts and metabolites andthe functions of regulating genes. KEGG analysis showedthere are multiple transcripts enriched in starch, sugar, carotenoid, plant hormone signal transduction and pectin pathways andseveral pathways regulating quality formation were identified. Candidate genes involving in sugar, starch, pectin, fruitsoftening and carotenoid metabolism in fruit were firstlyidentified for the species of C. maxima. Combining the sugar, starch and carotenoid accumulating patterns duringfruit development, a series of possible rate limiting geneswere identified. These findings will provide valuable informationfor further studies regarding fruit quality and development.

Appropriate nitrogen application enhances saponin synthesis and growth mediated by optimizing root nutrient uptake ability

        Wei, Wei,Ye, Chen,Huang, Hui-Chuan,Yang, Min,Mei, Xin-Yue,Du, Fei,He, Xia-Hong,Zhu, Shu-Sheng,Liu, Yi-Xiang The Korean Society of Ginseng 2020 Journal of Ginseng Research Vol.44 No.4

Background: Cultivation of medicinal crops, which synthesize hundreds of substances for curative functions, was focused on the synthesis of secondary metabolites rather than biomass accumulation. Nutrition is an important restrict factor for plant growth and secondary metabolites, but little attention has been given to the plasticity of nutrient uptake and secondary metabolites synthesis response to soil nitrogen (N) change. Methods: Two year-field experiments of Sanqi (Panax notoginseng), which can synthesize a high level of saponin in cells, were conducted to study the effects of N application on the temporal dynamics of biomass, nutrient absorption, root architecture and the relationships between these parameters and saponin synthesis. Results: Increasing N fertilizer rates could improve the dry matter yields and nutrient absorption ability through increasing the maximum daily growth (or nutrient uptake) rate. Under suitable N level (225 kg/ha N), Sanqi restricted the root length and surface and enhanced the root diameter and N uptake rate per root length (NURI) to promote nutrient absorption, but the opposite status of Sanqi root architecture and NURI was found when soil N was deficient. Furthermore, increasing N rates could promote the accumulation of saponin in roots through improving the NURI, which showed a significant positive relationship with the content of saponin in the taproots. Conclusion: Appropriate N fertilizer rates could optimize both root architecture and nutrient uptake efficiency, then promote both the accumulation of dry matter and the synthesis of saponins.

Application of a Q Method Study to Understanding Nurses’ Perspective of Adopting Evidence-Based Nursing

        Ruo-Nan Jueng,Shu-He Huang,Tsui-Ping Li,Hui-Yu Liang,Chiu-Mieh Huang 한국간호과학회 2017 Asian Nursing Research Vol.11 No.4

Purpose: This study applied the Q method to identify and describe the various types of nurse perceptions that are crucially associated with their engagement in evidence-based nursing (EBN). Methods: The study participants were nurses at a medical center and a regional teaching hospital. A series of Q sorts was performed by nurses to subjectively rank the Q statements. Q statements were constructed based on the literature related to EBN adoption by nurses and face-to-face interviews. Results: A total of 60 participants were invited to rank 44 Q statements related to EBN. Factor analysis was conducted on the rankings of the Q statements. The following are the five prominent shared perspectives: (1) emphasized the obstacles to evidence searching and reading ability; (2) emphasized the organizational promotive strategies; (3) emphasized the available supportive resources; (4) emphasized the significance of EBN; and (5) emphasized the evidence-searching ability and external incentives. The five identified groups of perspectives can enhance hospital administrators to acknowledge the barriers and incentives associated with EBN practices. Conclusion: The exploration of clustering nurses' perceptions may facilitate the development of customized strategies to enable more appropriate training.

      • Interleukin-10 Gene Promoter Polymorphisms and Risk of Gastric Cancer in a Chinese Population: Single Nucleotide and Haplotype Analyses

        Pan, Xiong-Fei,Yang, Shu-Juan,Loh, Marie,Xie, Yao,Wen, Yuan-Yuan,Tian, Zhi,Huang, He,Lan, Hui,Chen, Feng,Soong, Richie,Yang, Chun-Xia Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2013 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.14 No.4

Objectives: Interleukin (IL) -10 is a potent cytokine with a dual ability to immunosuppress or immunostimulate. We aimed to explore the association of IL10 promoter polymorphisms with risk of gastric cancer (GC) in a Han population in Southwestern China. Methods: We enrolled 308 pairs of GC and control subjects from four hospitals and a community between October 2010 and August 2011 in a 1:1 matched case-control design. Demographic information was collected using a designed questionnaire. IL10-592 A>C and IL10-1082 A>G polymorphisms were determined by Sequenom MassARRAY analysis. Results: Patients with GC reported statistically higher proportions of family history of cancer (29.9% versus 10.7%, P<0.01) and alcohol drinking (54.6% versus 43.2%, P<0.01) than did controls. Similar results were observed in comparison between non-cardia GC patients and controls (P<0.01 and P=0.03). Variant genotypes of IL10-592 A>C and IL10-1082 A>G were not associated with overall GC risk (adjusted OR, 0.94, 95% CI, 0.66-1.33; adjusted OR, 1.00, 95% CI, 0.62-1.60). Sub-analysis showed that the IL10-592 AC/CC variant genotype was associated with decreased non-cardia GC risk (adjusted OR, 0.58; 95% CI, 0.36-0.95). No association was found between any of the IL10 haplotypes established from two polymorphisms and risk of non-cardia GC. Conclusions: In conclusion, our data do not link the two SNPs of IL10-592 and IL10-1082 with overall GC risk. We demonstrate that IL10-592 polymorphism is associated with protective effect against non-cardia GC. Our findings may offer insight into risk associated with the development of GC in this region.

Incidentally Detected Enhancing Breast Lesions on Chest Computed Tomography

        Wen-Chiung Lin,Hsian-He Hsu,Chao-Shiang Li,Jyh-Cherng Yu,Giu-Cheng Hsu,Cheng-Ping Yu,Tsun-Hou Chang,Guo-Shu Huang 대한영상의학회 2011 Korean Journal of Radiology Vol.12 No.1

Objective: To evaluate the nature and imaging appearance of incidental enhancing breast lesions detected on a routine contrast-enhanced chest CT. Materials and Methods: Twenty-three patients with incidental enhancing breast lesions on contrast-enhanced chest CT were retrospectively reviewed. The breast lesions were reviewed by unenhanced and enhanced CT, and evaluated by observing the shapes, margins, enhancement patterns and backgrounds of breast lesions. A histopathologic diagnosis or long-term follow-up served as reference standard. Results: Sixteen (70%) patients had malignant breast lesions and seven (30%) had benign lesions. In 10 patients, the breast lesions were exclusively detected on contrast-enhanced CT. Using unenhanced CT, breast lesions with fi broglandular backgrounds were prone to be obscured (p < 0.001). Incidental primary breast cancer showed an non-signifi cant trend of a higher percentage irregular margin (p = 0.056). All of the four incidental breast lesions with non-mass-like enhancement were proven to be malignant. Conclusion: Routine contrast-enhanced chest CT can reveal suffi cient details to allow for the detection of unsuspected breast lesions, in which some cases may be proven as malignant. An irregular margin of incidental enhancing breast lesion can be considered a suggestive sign of malignancy. Mechanism of the simultaneous removal of nitrate and Ni(II) by Enterobacter sp. CC76 through mixotrophic denitrification processes

        Jun Feng Su,Shu Yang,Ting Lin Huang,Xue Chen Bai,Jin Suo Lu,Lei He,Min Li 한국화학공학회 2019 Korean Journal of Chemical Engineering Vol.36 No.7

We studied the mechanism for the simultaneous removal of nitrate and Ni(II) by Enterobacter sp. CC76. Response surface methodology results showed that the maximum removal ratios of nitrate and Ni(II) were 95.02% and 75.99% under the following conditions: pH 7.37, 54.31mg·L1 Fe(II), and 10.00mg·L1 Ni(II). The mechanism of Ni(II) removal involved Fe-oxide adsorption and the increase of pH. In addition, meteorological chromatography analysis indicated that Ni(II) affected gas composition during denitrification. Scanning electron microscopy and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy confirmed that Fe-oxide adsorption was the main contributor to Ni(II) removal. This study shows that Enterobacter sp. CC76 can enhance the adsorption of Ni(II) onto Fe-oxides while removing nitrate.

      • Decreased Expression of FADS1 Predicts a Poor Prognosis in Patients with Esophageal Squamous Cell Carcinoma

        Du, Yong,Yan, Shu-Mei,Gu, Wan-Yi,He, Fan,Huang, Li-Yun,Li, Mei,Yuan, Yan,Chen, Ren-Hui,Zhong, Qian,Li, Man-Zhi,Li, Yong,Zeng, Mu-Sheng Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2015 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.16 No.12

FADS1 (fatty acid desaturase 1) plays a crucial role in fatty acid metabolism, and it was recently reported to be involved in tumorigenesis. However, the role of FADS1 expression in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) remains unknown. In the current study, we investigated the expression and clinical pathologic and prognostic significance of FADS1 in ESCC. Immunohistochemical analyses revealed that 58.2% (146/251) of the ESCC tissues had low levels of FADS1 expression, whereas 41.8% (105/251) exhibited high levels of FADS1 expression. In positive cases, FADS1 expression was detected in the cytoplasm of cells. Correlation analyses demonstrated that FADS1 expression was significantly correlated with tumor location (p=0.025) but not with age, gender, histological grade, tumor status, nodal status or TNM staging. Furthermore, patients with tumors expressing high levels of FADS1had a longer disease-free survival time (p<0.001) and overall survival time (p <0.001). Univariate and multivariate analyses revealed that, along with nodal status, FADS1 expression was an independent and significant predictive factor (p<0.001). In conclusion, our study suggested that FADS1 might be a valuable biomarker and potential therapeutic target for ESCC.

An Unusual Radiologic Pattern of Cryptogenic Organizing Pneumonia: Diffuse Pulmonary Nodules in a Leukemia Patient

        Kai-Hsiung Ko,Hsian-He Hsu,Woei-Yau Kao,Ching-Feng Chang,Ming-Fang Cheng,Guo-Shu Huang 대한영상의학회 2009 Korean Journal of Radiology Vol.10 No.1

The radiological appearance of diffuse discrete pulmonary nodules associated with cryptogenic organizing pneumonia (COP) has been rarely described. We describe a case of COP in 49-year-old woman with acute myeloid leukemia who developed diffuse pulmonary nodules during the second course of induction chemotherapy. The clinical status of the patient and imaging findings suggested the presence of a pulmonary metastasis or infectious disease. A video-assisted thoracoscopic lung biopsy resulted in the unexpected diagnosis of COP as an isolated entity. Steroid therapy led to dramatic improvement of the clinical symptoms and the pulmonary lesions.
