      • Entropy function and higher derivative corrections to entropies in (anti-)de Sitter space

        We first briefly discuss the relation between black hole thermodynamics and the entropy function formalism. We find that an equation which governs the relationship between Sen's entropy function and black hole entropy, can quickly give higher order corrections to entropy of pure (anti-) de Sitter space without knowing the corrected metric. We also show that near horizon geometry and the entropy function extremization is no longer required for pure (anti-)de Sitter space. The entropy of (anti-)de Sitter space and Schwarzschild-(anti-) de Sitter black holes together with Gauss-Bonnet terms, <I>R</I><SUP>2</SUP> terms <B>and</B> <I>R</I><SUP>4</SUP> terms are calculated as concrete examples.

        Adiabatic runaway studies for methyl ethyl ketone peroxide with inorganic acids by vent sizing package 2

        Methyl ethyl ketone peroxide (MEKPO) is an unstable material that is classified as an explosive substance. We evaluated MEKPO 10 mass% under mixing with three inorganic acids (6 N HNO3, 6 N H3PO4, and 6 N H2SO4) by adiabatic system of vent sizing package 2 (VSP2). Results from evaluation and testing indicated that these three inorganic acids could increase the degree of hazard while combined with pure MEKPO. Therefore, information on the hazards and phenomena of runaway reaction should be provided in order to lessen the degree of hazard.

      • Paris polyphylla Smith Extract Induces Apoptosis and Activates Cancer Suppressor Gene Connexin26 Expression

        Background: The inhibition of tumor cell growth without toxicity to normal cells is an important target in cancer therapy. One possible way to increase the efficacy of anticancer drugs and to decrease toxicity or side effects is to develop traditional natural products, especially from medicinal plants. Paris polyphylla Smith has shown anti-tumour effects by inhibition of tumor promotion and inducement of tumor cell apoptosis, but mechanisms are still not well understood. The present study was to explore the effect of Paris polyphylla Smith extract (PPSE) on connexin26 and growth control in human esophageal cancer ECA109 cells. Methods: The effects of PPSE on Connexin26 were examined by RT-PCR, western blot and immunofluorescence; cell growth and proliferation were examined by the 3-(4, 5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2, 5-diphenyl-tetrazolium bromide (MTT) assay. Results: PPSE inhibited the growth and proliferation on esophageal cancer ECA109 cells, while increasing the expression of connexin26 mRNA and protein; conversely, PPSE decreased Bcl-2 and increased Bad. Conclusion: This study firstly shows that PPSE can increase connexin26 expression at mRNA and protein level, exerting anti-tumour effects on esophageal cacner ECA109 cells via inhibiting cell proliferation and inducing cell apoptosis.

        중국 만화 애니메이션 창작과 발전 방향에 관한 연구

        2014년 최근 몇 년간 중국 만화 애니메이션 산업은 창작과 제작인력 증가, 관련기술 발전, 신기술 도입, 정부 지원정책 등 다양한 환경 변화로 급속한 발전을 보이고 있다. 국가의 지원정책에 따른 환경변화는 만화 창작자와 제작자들에게 자국의 만화 애니메이션 산업 발전 가능성에 대한 높은 기대감을 갖게 하였다. 2004년에 국가광전총국(國家廣電總局)은 「국내 영상 애니메이션 산업의 발전에 관한 약간의 의견」등의 ‘문건’으로 중국 애니메이션 발전을 위한 제작을 장려했으며, 애니메이션 산업기지, 애니메이션 교육기관 등의 기구를 잇달아 설립하게 되었다. 그 동안 일본만화 확산으로 자국의 만화 애니메이션 창작 활성화가 부진하였음을 자각하고 동(同) 기관은 자국의 전통문화를 기반으로 창작 만화 애니메이션을 제작하는 활성화 전략을 세운 것이다. 2004년 이후 창작자들은 창작만화에 중국 역사의 전통성과 고유성을 잘 녹여내는 소재로 2004년 이전의 만화와 차별화된 전략을 구사하고 있다. 오늘날 중국 만화 애니메이션은 자국의 전통이 중요한 원천이라는 사실을 인식하면서 과거의 창작성과 현재의 제작 체계를 융합하여 더욱 발전시키고 있다. 만화 창작자들이 전통문화를 만화 이야기로 발굴하기 위해서는 현대적 의식과 감각을 가져야 한다. 중국만화가 다른 아시아 국가 만화들과는 다른 점은 만화 이야기 안에 전통문화를 자연스럽게 녹여내고 있다는 사실이다. 본 연구는 ‘디지털 만화제작 육성 정책’을 통한 만화 애니메이션 창작 의식 고취와 제작 활성화가 향후 중국 뉴미디어 콘텐츠산업을 견인할 수 있도록 방향성을 제시하고자 한다. 이제 중국은 뉴미디어 산업 발전을 위해 주변국의 환경변화에 대한 능동적 대처와 끊임없는 정보교류, 기술개발, 지원 사업 확대 등의 다양한 정책들을 쏟아내어 ‘신중국만화’ 산업의 재 도약기를 맞아야 한다. Chinese cartoon industry lately was able to see a rapid development which changed cartoon creative personnel associated with increased production technology development, new technologies, government support policy and a variety of environments. It was likely to have high expectations for changes in the policy environment of the country supported the comic creators and authors to develop its own comic industry. The State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television of China promoted the production for the development of Chinese animation with "domestic little video about the development of the animation industry"s opinion", and "documents Documents". Animation industrial base and animation education was established in institutions such as the organization one after another. In the meantime, the spread of Japanese comics picture on the creative activation admitted but their comic creation and activation was slump. It would produce that the creation of its traditional culture based activation strategy to built comics. Since 2004, It was well represented for the creators of the cartoon creation of the tradition and uniqueness of Chinese history. In the prior to 2004, comics and strategies was to be differentiated. Today, China is an important source of comic marked the fact that the tradition was recognized and it was further developed with combining creativity of the past and the present production system. Comic creators comic story of traditional culture were excavated in order to have a sense of awareness and modern. The difference between China Cartoon and comics in other Asian countries is true that cartoon story came out naturally in a traditional culture. In this study, It would lead in the future to allow directional presented for the digital cartoon making development policy awareness through the comic creation and production of new media content industry enabled to China. Now, in the new media industry for the development of China"s neighboring countries coped with climate change for the active exchange of information. It poured out ceaseless technical development and a range of policies to support business expansion. New China Cartoon was leaped to re-fit the industry.

        Multi-Phase MPCA Modeling and Application Based on an Improved Phase Separation Method

        Regarding the multi-phase characteristic of batch process, a new phase separation method is developed in this paper. The method realizes a 3-step sub-phase separation of the batch process using the retained principal components number, loading matrixes and principal component matrixes, which can adequately reflect the features variation of the process. In line with the different features and clas-sification step, automatic identification of ‘burrs’ and transition phases has been expounded. The pro-posed method can directly separate the stable phases and transition phases in the batch process, and deduce high-precision transition phase models. Based on the proposed method, the MPCA modeling and online monitoring is applied in the injection molding process. The experimental results have veri-fied the effectiveness of the proposed method.

        Exploring Information Warfare Strategies during the Russia–Ukraine War on Twitter

        Twitter, one of the mainstream social media platforms, has played a significant role in strategic communication and public diplomacy. Using tweets during the 2022 Russia–Ukraine war period as a case study, the researchers aim to build a pipeline that automatically detects information manipulation. Artificial intelligence and machine learning technology are adopted to target certain coordinated groups of people, and how they manipulate online public opinion internationally via social media platforms by retweeting identical tweets between members within the groups and even with their own tweets. With the large number of tweets posted and retweeted by the coordinated groups, their intended content will appear in the news feeds of normal users. This study maps an approach to future warfare that social media is becoming a vital part of information warfare to influence the results of conflict and regional relationships. The researchers argue that the government should consider taking countermeasures: 1) Set up legislation regarding media platforms and cooperate with social media companies to monitor manipulating behaviors. 2) Establish a model to orchestrate inter-agency defensive strategies. 3) Increase people’s media literacy to allow them to be aware of manipulative and collaborative behavior and decrease their likeliness to spread fake/manipulated information online unintentionally. Also, similar research can be adapted to different regional conflicts.

        Stability and Controller Design of Discrete-time Switched Systems Based on Transferring-dependent Lyapunov Function Approach

        This paper studies stability and controller design for discrete-time switched systems with unstable subsystems under the slow/fast admissible edge-dependent average dwell time (AED-ADT) switching. Different from the previous research results, it is the first time to propose transferring-dependent convex Lyapunov function (CLF) and transferring-dependent Lyapunov function (LF). Then, considering a slow/fast AED-ADT switching scheme, some excellent stability criteria are established according to transferring-dependent CLF and transferring-dependent LF, which have less restrictiveness compared with existing results. Corresponding to the novel transferring-dependent LFs and the properties of slow/fast AED-ADT switching, the new transferring-dependent convex controller (TDCC) and transferring-dependent ordinary controller (TD-OC) are devised to stabilize the underlying system. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed approach is verified by two numerical examples.

        Incongruent Expression of Brain-Derived Neurotrophic Factor and Cortisol in Schizophrenia: Results from a Randomized Controlled Trial of Laughter Intervention

        Objective Schizophrenia has been associated with dysfunction of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis. Furthermore, alterations in neurotrophic factors might contribute to the pathogenesis of schizophrenia. We aimed to evaluate the effects of a simulated laughter intervention on the levels of cortisol and BDNF and to determine whether the effects associated with simulated laughter could be sustained after discontinuation of the intervention. Methods In this randomized controlled study, patients with schizophrenia according to DSM-IV clinical criteria were randomly assigned to receive either 8-week-long simulated laughter intervention (n=32) or treatment-as-usual group (control group, n=27). The serum levels of BDNF and cortisol were measured at baseline, week 8, and four weeks after discontinuation (week 12) of the intervention program. Results After an 8-week simulated laughter intervention, the laughter group had significantly higher levels of BDNF; however, four weeks after discontinuation of the intervention, the levels of BDNF significantly dropped. Interestingly, the levels of cortisol did not change significantly at week 8, but they were significantly elevated at week 12. The levels of BDNF and cortisol in the control group did not change significantly between week 0 and week 8. Conclusion These findings suggest that the simulated laughter intervention has an early effect on neurogenesis with a significant delayed effect on stress regulation in subjects with schizophrenia.

        Enhanced photoactivity of N-doped TiO2 for Cr(VI) removal: Influencing factors and mechanism

        To further enhance the photoactivity of virgin TiO2, we prepared N-doped TiO2 (N-TiO2) by sol-gel method and used it to remove Cr(VI) ions from water under visible light. The catalysts were characterized by TEM, XRD, BET and UV-vis techniques. Better crystalline structure, larger specific surface area and decreased band-gap width were obtained after the insertion of N atoms into TiO2 lattice. Several influencing factors were also investigated. The removal efficiency of Cr(VI) increases with the decrease of initial Cr(VI) concentration or the increase of catalyst dosage. Addition of glucose or some inorganic ions (Mg2+, Al3+) can promote the photoreduction process by improving the quantum efficiency. The kinetics and mechanism were discussed as well.

        Mesenchymal Stem Cells on a Decellularized Cartilage Matrix for Cartilage Tissue Engineering

        An ideal scaffold for cartilage tissue engineering should be biomimetic in not only its biochemical composition, but also in the morphological structure of the scaffold. In this study, we fabricated a scaffold with an oriented structure using a nanofibrous articular cartilage extracellular matrix (ACECM), in which the ACECM was used to mimic the biochemical composition and oriented structure of articular cartilage. Histology analysis showed that the scaffold contained cartilage ECM (GAGs and collagen II). Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) indicated that the scaffolds were composed of nanofibers and possessed vertical microtubules. Chondrogenic differentiation-induced mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) were seeded on the scaffold in vitro. SEM showed that MSCs proliferated well and aligned along the vertical microtubules,which mimicked the orientation of deep zone articular cartilage. A cell proliferation assay and live/dead cell staining demonstrated that the ACECM possessed good cell affinity, which favored cell adherence and proliferation. The MSCs that had been labeled with the fluorescent dye PKH26 and seeded on scaffolds were implanted into nude mice. The differentiated cells/ACECM implants formed cartilage-like tissue 4 weeks after implantation, and stained positive for collagen type II and toluidine blue. In addition,the in vivo fluorescent images verified that the MSCs in the implants were the labeled MSCs. These results demonstrated that the oriented ACECM scaffolds hold great promise for use in cartilage tissue engineering applications.
