PBL Based Engineering Education to Cultivate Leadership Spirit in Postgraduate Students
Yokota Kazutaka,Maruoka Masatomo,Takaki Junji,Watanabe Shinichi 한국공학교육학회 2012 공학교육연구 Vol.15 No.5
Utsunomiya University started a 3-year project to develop an education program for postgraduate students to cultivate leadership spirits. The program is centered on a PBL in which each group of students is required to find an engineering or social problem themselves and start a project to solve the problem. Projects vary widely, from a straight product development to a summer program for children or local area development. Student groups are advised by senior engineers from industries. They give advice as to how a project should be managed and run, but will not give instructions. The PBL is compulsory for all students in the engineering master course students. The new education program also includes a series of lectures by engineers to show engineers’ job, activities, and career in the industry. Internship programs are also provided, in which students will be given opportunities to actively apply their knowledge and skills to real engineering tasks offered by the industry. The students are expected to gain something more than just experiences.

Quasi-Zenith Satellite System (QZSS)-Outline and its time related mission
Hama, shinichi,Takahashi, Yasuhiro,Amagai, Jun,Ito, Hiroyuki,Morikawa, Takao,Yokota, Shouichirou,Fujieda, Miho,Kimura, Kazuhiro 통신위성우주산업연구회 2005 Joint Conference on Satellite Communications Vol.2005 No.-
Japan has started a project of Quasi-Zenith Satellite System (QZSS) since FY2003. QZSS will be highly useful not only for communications but for complement of the modernized GPS in urban canyon and mountainous area with its high visibility brought out by its inclined orbits. National Institute of Information and Communications Technology, Japan (NICT) is to develop a Space-borne Hydrogen Maser (SHM) and time management system, and carry out experiments using them. A breadboard model (BBM) of the SHM was developed to overcome the issues such as size, weight and life time, which are required in space environment. Basic design was carried out for time management system to achieve nano second level time transfer. The design and the manufacturing of the engineering models (EM) of the on-board equipment have been carried out since 2004. The first satellite is planned to be launched in FY 2008.

Previously, we described a single layer fabrication combining thick photoresist (KMPR) micromolding and electroformingto fabricate ECF micropumps with triangular prism and slit electrode pairs (TPSEs). However, the fabricated TPSEs have aheight limitation due to the limitation of KMPR’s aspect ratio caused by serious swelling and deformation of KMPR micromolds. To solve this problem and realize high-aspect-ratio TPSEs, we propose to utilize the multilayer fabrication instead ofthe single layer one. After each prior micromolding layer fabrication, the precision surface grinding technique is introducedto achieve the excellent planarization of the KMPR micromolds and electroplated TPSEs between the fi rst layer and thesecond one. We apply this method to successfully fabricate the 3D-integration ECF micropump (3D-EMP) with TPSEs of880 μm in height. Also, we validate this method by experimentally investigating and comparing the output performance ofECF micropumps composed of double layer TPSEs and previous single layer ones. The novel MEMS fabrication methodcombining multilayer micromolding and electroforming with the planarization is promising and applicable to a broad rangeof high-aspect-ratio metallic microstructures.
Drilling force and speed for mandibular trabecular bone in oral implant surgery
bin Kamisan, Mohammad Aimaduddin Atiq,Yokota, Kenichiro,Ueno, Takayuki,Kinoshita, Hideaki,Homma, Shinya,Yajima, Yasutomo,Abe, Shinichi,Takano, Naoki Techno-Press 2016 Biomaterials and biomedical engineering Vol.3 No.1
Based on a survey done recently in Japan, 30 percent of the serious accidents occurred in oral implant surgery were concerned with the mandibular canal and 3/4 of them were related to drilling. One of the reasons lies in the lack of the education system. To overcome this problem, a new educational system focusing on drilling the mandibular trabecular bone has been developed mainly for dental college students in the form of an oral implant surgery training simulator that enables student to sense the reaction force during drilling. On the other hand, the conventional system uses polymeric model. Based on these systems, two approaches were proposed; the evaluation by experienced clinicians using the simulator, and experimental works on the polymeric model. Focusing on the combination of the drilling force sensed and drilling speed obtained through both approaches, the results were compared. It was found that the polymeric models were much softer especially near the mandibular canal. In addition, the study gave us an insight of the understanding in bone quality through tactile sensation of the drilling force and speed. Furthermore, the clinicians positively reviewed the simulator as a valid tool.
