        Proton Conducting Behavior of a Novel Composite Based on Phosphosilicate/Poly(Vinyl Alcohol)

        A series of proton conductive composite membranes based on poly(vinyl alcohol) and phosphosilicate gels powders were successfully prepared. The proton conductivity of these composite was attributed to the phosphosilicate gel, which derived from tetraethoxysilane and phosphoric acid by sol-gel process at a molar ratio of P/Si = 1.5. The proton conductivity increased with increasing both the content of phosphosilicate gel and relative humidity. Temperature dependence of conductivity showed a Vogel-Tamman-Fulcher type behavior, indicating that proton was transferred through a liquidlike phase formed in micropores of phosphosilicate gel. The high conductivity of 0.065 S/cm with a membrane containing 60 wt$\%$ of the gel was obtained at $60^{\circ}C$ at $90\%$ relative humidity.

      • Association between the TGFBR2 G-875A Polymorphism and Cancer Risk: Evidence from a Meta-analysis

        Disrupted transforming growth factor-${\beta}$ (TGF-${\beta}$) signaling is involved in the development of various types of cancer and the TGF-${\beta}$ receptor II (TGFBR2) is a key mediator of TGF-${\beta}$ growth inhibitory signals. It is reported that the G-875A polymorphism in TGFBR2 is implicated in risk of various cancers. However, results for the association between this polymorphism and cancer remain conflicting. To derive a more precise estimation, a meta-analysis of 3,808 cases and 4,489 controls from nine published case-control studies was performed. Our analysis indicated that G-875A is associated with a trend of decreased cancer risk for allele A versus(vs.) allele G [odds ratio (OR) =0.64, 95% confidence intervals (CI): 0.55-0.74], as well as for both dominant model [(A/A+G/A) vs. G/G, OR=0.76, 95% CI: 0.64-0.90] and recessive model [A/A vs. (G/G+G/A), OR=0.74, 95% CI: 0.59-0.93). However, larger scale primary studies are required to further evaluate the interaction of TGFBR2 G-875A polymorphism and cancer risk in specific cancer subtypes.

        The national logistics policy report published by Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Tourism in 2011 proposes to establish international logistics strategy teams in 10 different regions around Japan to satisfy the increasing demand for advance transportation infrastructure and stay competitive in Asia Pacific. The globalization of world economies creates many opportunities as well as challenges for international logistics companies to gain more business chances in this changing environment. The purpose of this paper is to improve service quality of international logistics companies and explores the quality function deployment in terms of quality evaluation method. The logistics service is particularly characterized by offering a series of transport solution and including other logistics activities. The major customers of the logistics services are the industrial clients. The customer satisfaction is key managerial mission since the competitiveness is a growing issue in this industry. The quality function deployment is one of the unique procedures to expose the requirements of customer and transform them into managerial tasks by cross correlation analysis between requirements and technical measures. The empirical study is performed to investigate service quality of the logistics industry by focusing on a group of leading logistics companies.

        Two mitochondrial genomes of genus Megacampsomeris Betrem, 1928 (Hymenoptera: Scoliidae) with their phylogenetic implications

        We determined two mitochondrial genomes of genus Megacampsomeris Betrem, 1928, i.e., M. binghami (Betrem, 1928) with 16,461 bp and M. farrenwhitei (Betrem, 1928) with 15,834 bp in length respectively and anotated the sequence of M. prismatica (Smith, 1855). These sequence all possess 37 mitochondrial genes, containing 13 protein-coding genes (PCGs), 22 transfer RNA genes (tRNAs) including one extra trnM gene while missing trnK gene, and two ribosomal RNA (rRNA) genes separately. Gene rearrangement showed inversion event involing protein-coding and tRNA genes. The protein-coding genes of 18 species representing seven superfamilies and 12 families from Aculeata were used for phylogenetic analysis by maximum likelihood (ML) analysis and Bayesian inference (BI), with Cotesia vestalis from Braconidae and Hyposoter sp. from Ichneumonidae was as outgroups. M. prismatica was more closer to M. binghami than M. farrenwhitei in our inferences. Consistent with previous studies, our results supported paraphyly of the superfamily Chrysidoidea and a sister group relationship between Formicoidea and Vespoidea, but failed to recover the monophyly of superfamilies Apoidea and Pompiloidea.

      • Quantitative Assessment the Relationship between p21 rs1059234 Polymorphism and Cancer Risk

        p21 is a cyclin-dependent kinase inhibitor, which can arrest cell proliferation and serve as a tumor suppressor. Though many studies were published to assess the relationship between p21 rs1059234 polymorphism and various cancer risks, there was no definite conclusion on this association. To derive a more precise quantitative assessment of the relationship, a large scale meta-analysis of 5,963 cases and 8,405 controls from 16 eligible published case-control studies was performed. Our analysis suggested that rs1059234 was not associated with the integral cancer risk for both dominant model [(T/T+C/T) vs C/C, OR=1.00, 95% CI: 0.84-1.18] and recessive model [T/T vs (C/C+C/T), OR=1.03, 95% CI: 0.93-1.15)]. However, further stratified analysis showed rs1059234 was greatly associated with the risk of squamous cell carcinoma of head and neck (SCCHN). Thus, larger scale primary studies are still required to further evaluate the interaction of p21 rs1059234 polymorphism and cancer risk in specific cancer subtypes.

        A Lithium-Ion Batteries Fault Diagnosis Method for Accurate Coulomb Counting State-of-Charge Estimation

        Real-time and accurate estimating state-of-charge (SOC) of a lithium-ion battery is a critical but technically challenging task for battery management systems. Coulomb counting algorithm is an efective real-time SOC estimation algorithm but sufers from three typical faults: initial SOC fault, battery capacity fault, and biased load current measurement fault, making its estimation accuracy challenging in practice. To solve the above-mentioned problem, this paper proposes a model-based fault diagnosis algorithm for the Coulomb counting algorithm. The proposed algorithm efectively diagnoses the faults, where the diagnosis requires merely the load current and the terminal voltage of the battery without extra measurements or prior knowledge of the battery. Also, this algorithm is performed alongside the Coulomb counting algorithm either intermittently or remotely in the cloud to ensure the real-time SOC estimation feature of the Coulomb counting algorithm. To showcase the performance of the proposed algorithm, two experiments: a battery discharging experiment using a standard electric vehicle driving profle and a Monte Carlos experiment were performed. Both experiments well-demonstrate the efectiveness of the proposed battery electric circuit model-based SOC estimation algorithm in diagnosing the three typical faults of the Coulomb counting algorithm with 100% true-positive rates.

        Preparation and Characterization of Proton Conductive Phosphosilicate Membranes Based on Inorganic-Organic Hybrid Materials

        A series of proton conductive inorganic-organic hybrid membranes doped with phosphoric acid (H3PO4 ) and/or triethylphosphate (PO(OEt)3) have been prepared by sol-gel process with 3-glycidoxypropyltrimethoxy- silane (GPTMS), 3-aminopropyltriethoxysilane (APTES) and tetraethoxysilane (TEOS) as precursors. High proton conductivity of 3.0´103 S/cm with composition of 50TEOS- 0GPTMS-20APTES-50H3PO4 was obtained at 120 ºC under 50% relative humidity. Thermal stability of membrane was significantly enhanced by the presence of SiO2 framework up to 250 ºC. XRD revealed that the gels are amorphous. IR spectra showed a good complexation of H3PO4 in the matrix. The conductivity under 75% relative humidity was significantly improved by addition of APTES due to the increase in concentration of defected site in hybrid matrix. The effect of PO(OEt)3, humidifying time, and heat-treatment were also investigated. PO(OEt)3 had no improvement on conductivity and conductivity increased with humidifying time, however, decreased with heating temperature.

      • Inorganic-organic Hybrid Proton Conductive Membranes Doped with Phosphoric Acid

        A new proton conductive inorganic-organic hybrid membrane doped with H₃P0₄ was fabricated via sol-gel process wit 3-glycidoxypropyltrimethoxysilane(GPTMS), 3-aminopropyltriethoxysilane(APIES)andtetraethoxysilane(TEOS)asprecursors. Theproto conductivity of about 3.0 x 10¯³ S/cm was obtained at 120°C under 50% relative humidity (R.H). DTA curves showed that the thermal stability of the membrane is significantly enhanced by the presence of SiO₂ framework up to 250°C. SEM and XRD revealed that the gel is microporou and amorphous. The addition of APTES improved the conductivity of the membranes and the effect of the APIES on the conductivity was also discussed in this paper.

        Multi-Function Distributed Generation with Active Power Filter and Reactive Power Compensator

        This paper presents a control strategy for voltage-controlled multi-function distributed generation (DG) combined with an active power filter (APF) and a reactive power compensator. The control strategy is based on droop control. As a result of local nonlinear loads, the voltages of the point of common coupling (PCC) and the currents injecting into the grid by the DG are distorted. The power quality of the PCC voltage can be enhanced by using PCC harmonic compensation. In addition, with the PCC harmonic compensation, the DG offers a low-impedance path for harmonic currents. Therefore, the DG absorbs most of the harmonic currents generated by local loads, and the total harmonic distortion (THD) of the grid connected current is dramatically reduced. Furthermore, by regulating the reactive power of the DG, the magnitude of the PCC voltage can be maintained at its nominal value. The performance of the DG with the proposed control strategy is analyzed by bode diagrams. Finally, simulation and experimental results verify the proposed control strategy.
