MULTI-EPOCH MULTI-FREQUENCY VLBI STUDY OF THE PARSEC-SCALE JET IN THE BLAZAR 3C 66A

        Zhao, Guang-Yao,Chen, Yong-Jun,Shen, Zhi-Qiang,Sudou, Hiroshi,Iguchi, Satoru American Institute of Physics 2015 The Astronomical journal Vol.149 No.2

<P>We present observational results of the &ggr;-ray blazar 3C 66A at 2.3, 8.4, and 22 GHz at four epochs during 2004–2005 with the VLBA. The resulting images show an overall core-jet structure extending roughly to the south, with two intermediate breaks occurring in the region near the core. By model-fitting to the visibility data, the northmost component, which is also the brightest, is identified as the core according to its relatively flat spectrum and its compactness. Combining our results with previous results to investigate the proper motions of the jet components, we found the kinematics of 3C 66A to be quite complicated, with components of inward and outward, subluminal and superluminal motions all detected in the radio structure. The superluminal motions indicate strong Doppler boosting exists in the jet. The apparent inward motions of the innermost components last for at least 10 years and could not be caused by newborn components. A possible reason could be non-stationarity of the core due to opacity change.</P>

Sagittal Pelvic Radius in Low-Grade Isthmic Lumbar Spondylolisthesis of Chinese Population

        Zhao, Yang,Shen, Cai-Liang,Zhang, Ren-Jie,Cheng, Da-Wei,Dong, Fu-Long,Wang, Jun The Korean Neurosurgical Society 2016 Journal of Korean neurosurgical society Vol.59 No.3

Objective : To investigate the variation of pelvic radius and related parameters in low-grade isthmic lumbar spondylolisthesis. Methods : Seventy-four patients with isthmic lumbar spondylolisthesis and 47 controls were included in this study. There were 17 males and 57 females between 30 and 66 years of age, including 30 with grade I slippages and 44 grade II slippages; diseased levels included 34 cases on L4 and 40 cases on L5. Thoracic kyphosis (TK), the pelvic radius (PR), the pelvic angle (PA), pelvic morphology (PR-S1), and total lumbopelvic lordosis (PR-T12) were assessed from radiographs. Results : Statistically significant differences were found for the PA, PR-T12, and PR-S1 ($24.5{\pm}6.6^{\circ}$, $83.7{\pm}9.8^{\circ}$, and $25.4{\pm}11.2^{\circ}$, respectively) of the patients with spondylolisthesis and the healthy volunteers ($13.7{\pm}7.8^{\circ}$, $92.9{\pm}9.2^{\circ}$, and $40.7{\pm}8.9^{\circ}$, respectively). The TK/PR-T12 ratios were between 0.15 and 0.75. However, there were no differences in all the parameters between the L4 and L5 spondylolysis subgroups (p>0.05). The TK and PR-S1 of grade II were less than grade I, but the PA was greater. The PR-T12 of female patients were less than male patients, but the PA was greater (p<0.05). Conclusion : Pelvic morphology differed in patients with low-grade isthmic lumbar spondylolisthesis compared to controls. Gender and the grade of slippage impacted the sagittal configuration of the pelvis, but the segment of the vertebral slip did not. Overall, the spine of those with spondylolisthesis remains able to maintain sagittal balance despite abnormal pelvic morphology.

Experimental Investigation on Seismic Resistance of RC Shear Walls with CFRP Bars in Boundary Elements

        Jun Zhao,Fuqiang Shen,Chenzhe Si,Yuping Sun,Lu Yin 한국콘크리트학회 2020 International Journal of Concrete Structures and M Vol.14 No.1

Experimental investigation on seismic performance of RC shear walls reinforced with CFRP bars in boundary elements to enhance the resilience was presented which is expected for stable resistance capacity and small residual deformation. Six RC shear walls reinforced with CFRP bars as longitudinal tensile materials in boundary elements were tested under reversed cyclic lateral loading while subjected to constant axial compression with different axial load ratios of 0.17, 0.26 and 0.33, respectively. Two forms of stirrups were used for each axial load ratio, which were rectangular and circular stirrups in boundary elements. A reference specimen, ordinary RC shear walls, was also introduced to certify the excellence of CFRP bars. The test results indicated that the walls utilizing CFRP bars had small residual deformations and residual crack widths. Lower crack propagation height and larger concrete crushing region, bearing capacity and equivalent viscous damping coefficient (EVDC) could be observed with the increase of axial load ratios. The effects of stirrup forms on experimental results had a relation to the axial load ratio. When the axial load ratio was small, the shear walls with circular stirrups had better energy dissipation than that with rectangular stirrups at a given drift level, while the cumulative energy dissipation (CED) were similar. With the increase of axial load ratio, the walls exhibited similar energy dissipation at the same drift level, however, the shear walls with rectangular stirrups had larger CED.

Exercise Reduces Airway Smooth Muscle Contraction in Asthmatic Rats via Inhibition of IL-4 Secretion and Store-Operated Ca2+ Entry Pathway

        Huang Jun-Hao,Gao Hui-Wen,Gao Dong-Dong,Yang Wei-Yue,Zhao Meng-Ke,Shen Bing,Hu Min 대한천식알레르기학회 2023 Allergy, Asthma & Immunology Research Vol.15 No.3

Purpose: Increased evidence has shown that aerobic exercise reduces airway hyperresponsiveness in asthmatic individuals. However, the underlying mechanisms of action remain elusive. This study aimed to investigate the effect of exercise on airway smooth muscle (ASM) contractile function in asthmatic rats, and uncover the possible involvement of interleukin 4 (IL-4) and the store-operated Ca2+ entry (SOCE) pathway. Methods: In this study, chicken ovalbumin was used to induce asthma in male Sprague-Dawley rats. The exercise group received moderate-intensity aerobic exercise training for 4 weeks. IL-4 concentrations in bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF) samples were evaluated by enzyme linked immunosorbent assay. The contractile function of the ASM was investigated using tracheal ring tension experiments and intracellular Ca2+ imaging techniques. Western blot analysis was used to evaluate expression levels of calcium-release activated calcium (CRAC) channel protein (Orai) and stromal interaction molecule 1 (STIM1) in ASM. Results: Our data showed that the carbachol-stimulated, SOCE-mediated contraction of rat ASM was significantly increased in asthmatic rats, which could be abolished by exercise. Pharmacological studies revealed that GSK5498A and BTP-2, selective blockers of CRAC channels significantly inhibited SOCE-induced ASM contraction. In addition, exercise inhibited the up-regulation of IL-4 in BALF as well as STIM1 and Orai expression in the ASM of asthmatic rats. In line with these observations, we demonstrated that pretreatment of the ASM with IL-4 up-regulated the expression level of STIM1, Orai1 and Orai2, thereby promoting SOCE-mediated ASM contraction. Conclusions: The data in this study reveal that aerobic exercise may improve the ASM contractile function in asthmatic rats by inhibiting IL-4 secretion and by down-regulating the expression of STIM1, Orai1 and Orai2, thus decreasing excessive SOCE-mediated ASM contraction in asthmatic rats.

Combination of 18F-Fluorodeoxyglucose PET/CT Radiomics and Clinical Features for Predicting Epidermal Growth Factor Receptor Mutations in Lung Adenocarcinoma

        Li Shen,Li Yadi,Zhao Min,Wang Pengyuan,Xin Jun 대한영상의학회 2022 Korean Journal of Radiology Vol.23 No.9

Objective: To identify epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) mutations in lung adenocarcinoma based on 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG) PET/CT radiomics and clinical features and to distinguish EGFR exon 19 deletion (19 del) and exon 21 L858R missense (21 L858R) mutations using FDG PET/CT radiomics. Materials and Methods: We retrospectively analyzed 179 patients with lung adenocarcinoma. They were randomly assigned to training (n = 125) and testing (n = 54) cohorts in a 7:3 ratio. A total of 2632 radiomics features were extracted from the tumor region of interest from the PET (1316) and CT (1316) images. Six PET/CT radiomics features that remained after the feature selection step were used to calculate the radiomics model score (rad-score). Subsequently, a combined clinical and radiomics model was constructed based on sex, smoking history, tumor diameter, and rad-score. The performance of the combined model in identifying EGFR mutations was assessed using a receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve. Furthermore, in a subsample of 99 patients, a PET/CT radiomics model for distinguishing 19 del and 21 L858R EGFR mutational subtypes was established, and its performance was evaluated. Results: The area under the ROC curve (AUROC) and accuracy of the combined clinical and PET/CT radiomics models were 0.882 and 81.6%, respectively, in the training cohort and 0.837 and 74.1%, respectively, in the testing cohort. The AUROC and accuracy of the radiomics model for distinguishing between 19 del and 21 L858R EGFR mutational subtypes were 0.708 and 66.7%, respectively, in the training cohort and 0.652 and 56.7%, respectively, in the testing cohort. Conclusion: The combined clinical and PET/CT radiomics model could identify the EGFR mutational status in lung adenocarcinoma with moderate accuracy. However, distinguishing between EGFR 19 del and 21 L858R mutational subtypes was more challenging using PET/CT radiomics.

Efficacy and Safety of Gabapentin in the Treatment of Chronic Cough: A Systematic Review

Shi, Guanglin,Shen, Qin,Zhang, Caixin,Ma, Jun,Mohammed, Anaz,Zhao, Huan The Korean Academy of Tuberculosis and Respiratory 2018 Tuberculosis and Respiratory Diseases Vol.81 No.3

Despite recent clinical guidelines, the optimal therapeutic strategy for the management of refractory chronic cough is still a challenge. The present systematic review was designed to assess the evidence for efficacy and safety of gabapentin in the treatment of chronic cough. A systematic search of PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library databases, and publications cited in bibliographies was performed. Articles were searched by two reviewers with a priori criteria for study selection. Seven relevant articles were identified, including two randomized controlled trials, one prospective case-series designed with consecutive patients, one retrospective case series of consecutive patients, one retrospective case series with unknown consecutive status, and two case reports comprising six and two patients, respectively. Improvements were detected in cough-specific quality of life (Leicester Cough Questionnaire score) and cough severity (visual analogue scale score) following gabapentin treatment in randomized controlled trials. The results of prospective case-series showed that the rate of overall improvement of cough and sensory neuropathy with gabapentin was 68%. Gabapentin treatment of patients with chronic cough showed superior efficacy and a good safety record compared with placebo or standard medications. Additional randomized and controlled trials are needed.

A Design Approach for the Interior Anchorage Zone of Post-tensioned Concrete Structure

        Jian-Li Zhao,Shui-Long Shen,Lin-Bing Wang,Jun Chen 대한토목학회 2011 KSCE Journal of Civil Engineering Vol.15 No.3

For the interior anchorage zone in post-tensioned concrete structure, International Federation for Presterssing (FIP) proposed a design method based on the theory of Strut-and-Tie Model (STM) (called FIP-STM in the following context). However, the condition of FIP-STM is that the dimension ratio of anchor, b/h, is equal to 1/9. In this paper, the stress distribution in interior anchorage zone was analyzed via using Finite Element Method (FEM) at first. The relationship between ratio of internal force over post-tensioned load (F/P) and dimension ratio (b/h) (F/P-b/h curve) was obtained. FEM results show that in case of b/h<1/9, the interior anchorage zone can be simplified to the core region, in which b/h is equal to 1/9 and FIP-STM is still applicable. However, in case of b/h>1/9, the amount of non-prestressed rebar designed in interior anchorage zone by use of FIP-STM is more than that required, and in some cases it is difficult to allocate non-prestressed rebar in the crowded space. Based on the results of stress analysis, a modified approach for FIP-STM was presented, which can be applied for any dimension ratio. With the proposed modification on FIP-STM, the non-prestressed rebar can be reasonably allocated in the narrow space of interior anchorage zone via modifying the internal forces and geometry of FIP-STM. The analytical result shows that for interior anchorage zone about 30% of non-prestressed rebar can be reduced via using the proposed method compared with that using FIP-STM if b/h is equal to 3/10.
