Many countries have imposed regulations relating to concerns that hide contamination will affect the cleanliness of abattoirs. However, South Korea has not indicated any clear criteria. The purpose of this study is to use surrogate bacteria to measure the contamination in abattoirs caused by contaminated cattle hides. The swab contact method and plate count method are used. Surrogate bacteria are found in most internal environments after the final process. These surrogates remained on the carcass even after the final washing process. This paper is the first study in South Korea that use surrogate bacteria to analyze contamination levels in abattoirs.

These days abattoirs' hygiene of Korea is regulated by Hazzard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP). Although 20 years have been left since first HACCP was adjusted in Korea, 12% of abattoirs got inconsistence on evaluations. Food poisoning caused by bacteria feces like pathogenic Escherichia coli and Salmonella has not decreased. These bacteria on meat cross-contaminate at the abattoir. Therefore, field verification of abattoir's critical control point (CCP) and experiments to find alternative ways of the CCP were conducted. The aerobic bacteria were measured before and after high-pressure water based washing process set as CCP in most abattoirs. Four parts of cattle carcasses were selected to apply sponge-swab method. The effects were < 1 log reduction which is not significant. Lactic acid (LC), chlorine dioxide (ClO<sub>2</sub>) and slightly acidic electrolyzed water (SAEW) were used to measure the effect of reducing bacteria on beef by the different time. LC has 1.24-2.02 log reduction for aerobic bacteria. ClO<sub>2</sub> has 1.44-1.96 log reduction for aerobic bacteria. SAEW has 1.1-1.91 log reduction for aerobic bacteria. There was significant difference according to concentrations (p < 0.05). This study presents legitimacy for hygiene improvement of CCP by field verification. In addition, chemical disinfectants that can be mechanically applied have better reduction effects of high-pressure washing.
Systematic Study on Ants from Coasts of Korean Peninsula (Hym., Formicidae)

저자들은 1993년 5월부터 1994년 7월까지 한국 반도의 해안에 서식하고 있는 개미류에 관한 조사 연구를 수행하였다. 해안선을 따라서 개미류 전종을 대상으로 이 기간동안 채집하였다. 저자들이 이러한 서식처를 택하여 연구하게 된 동기는 해안 지역이라는 특수한 환경에 서식하는 개미류의 분포상에 관심을 가지고 있었기 때문이다. 모두 29개 지역에서 채집한 개미들을 동정한 결과 4아과 25속 35종이 동정되었다. 그 중에서 Ochetelus itoi는 한국산 신기종이다. 따라서 한국산 개미류는 110종이 된다. The ants which live in the coasts of Korean peninsula were investigated from May, 1993 to July, 1994. We were interisted in the ants fauna of coast areas of Korean peninsula related to seashore habitats. All the collections are from the 29 sites of coasts of Korean peninsula. As a result 35 species of 25 genera under 4 subfamilies, including Ochetellus itoi newly recorded, were identified.

<P>We synthesized an azobenzene derivative to demonstrate a one-dimensional molecular zipper. Nothing new but understandably integrated context of an real options theory may be hopefully found in this paper. An abundant research on the real options theory has been made since the beginning of the 2000s being conceived that it effectively deals with uncertainty inherent in engineering projects. However, when engineers are faced with the theory at first, they usually have difficulty in understanding it for four major drawbacks observed by many researchers: (1) the unfamiliar financial terminologies, (2) a disconnection between real options and financial option theories, (3) a variety of real options implementation methods sporadically proposed by many a different researcher, and (4) the unmatched interpretation of the real options value with the financial option one. In this paper, each drawback will be explained in an introductory level with hope that the paper will provide for the engineers to grasp a rough but right glimpse of the real options theories.
Genome editing of immune cells using CRISPR/Cas9

The ability to read, write, and edit genomic information in living organisms can have a profound impact on research, health, economic, and environmental issues. The CRISPR/Cas system, recently discovered as an adaptive immune system in prokaryotes, has revolutionized the ease and throughput of genome editing in mammalian cells and has proved itself indispensable to the engineering of immune cells and identification of novel immune mechanisms. In this review, we summarize the CRISPR/Cas9 system and the history of its discovery and optimization. We then focus on engineering T cells and other types of immune cells, with emphasis on therapeutic applications. Last, we describe the different modifications of Cas9 and their recent applications in the genome-wide screening of immune cells. [BMB Reports 2021; 54(1): 59-69]

NVIDIA사의 Xavier NX 보드에서 GPU를 이용한 FHD(1920×1080) 주간영상과 VGA(640×480) 야간영상의 실시간 합성에 대한 가능성을 확인하였다. 영상합성은 OpenCV 라이브러리를 사용하여 CUDA 기반의 채널기반 합성과 특징기반 합성 기능을 구현하였다. 구현 결과 두 합성기법 모두 30ms 이하의 성능향상이 있었음을 확인하였다. 특히 특징기반 합성의 경우 처리시간이 약 50% 감소됨에 따라 실시간 성능을 확보할 수 있었다. This paper describes the real-time image fusion performance of day images(full-HD) and night images(VGA) using CUDA at the NVIDIA’s Xavier NX board with GPU. We implemented two image fusion methods using OpenCV with CUDA. One is to blend night image with Y-channel of the day image. The other is to add edge mask of the night image to the day image. We confirmed that the implemented image fusion methods show the time performance under 30ms. Especially, the latter fusion method takes about half the time when using CPU only. Consequently, the CPU resource can be reserved as well as real-time ability, while performing image fusion using GPU.
