      • Genetic Diversity of Korean Rice Breeding Parents as Measured by DNA Fingerprinting with Simple Sequence Repeat (SSR) Markers

        Molecular markers are useful tools for evaluating genetic diversity and determining cultivar identity. Present study was conducted to evaluate the genetic diversity within a diverse collection of rice accessions used for Korean breeding programs. Two hundred eighty-seven rice cultivars, composed of temperate japonica, tropical japonica, indica, and Tongil-type of Korean crossing parents were evaluated by means of 15 simple sequence repeat (SSR) markers. A total of 99 alleles were detected, and the number of alleles per marker ranged from 4 to 11, with an average of 6.6 per locus. Polymorphism information content (PIC) for each of the SSR markers ranged from 0.2924 to 0.8102 with an average of 0.5785. These results, with the result that use of only 15 SSR markers made all rice cultivars examined could be uniquely distinguished, imply the efficiency of SSR markers for analysis of genetic diversity in rice. Cluster analysis was performed on similar coefficient matrics calculated from SSR markers to generate a dendogram in which two major groups corresponding to japonica (Group I) and indica and Tongil type rice (group II) with additional subclasses within both major groups. The narrowness of the Korean breeding germplasm was revealed by the fact that most of the Korean-bred and Japan-bred temperate japonica cultivars were concentrated into only 2 of the sub-group I-1 (143 cultivars) and I-2 (58 cultivars) among six sub-groups in major group of japonica. This is because of the japonica accessions used in this study was a very closely related ones because of frequent sharing of the crossing parents with similar genetic background with synergy effect of the inherited genetic difference between indica and japonica. A rice breeding strategy with the use of molecular markers was discussed for overcoming of genetic vulnerability owing to this genetic narrowness.

      • 韓牛 種牡牛의 體重에 對한 環境要因의 影響

        This study was carried out to investigate overall performance and to estimate effects of the environmental factors on body weights of the bull in Korean Native Cattle. Data used for this study included a total of 545 heads of Korean Native Cattle recorded from 1981 to 1990 at Alpine Experiment Station located in Kangwon province. The effects of year of birth, age of dam, parity of dam and season of birth were estimated by means of least squares method. Overall least squares means and standard errors for the body weights of the bull at birth, 4, 6, 12 and 18 months of ate were 26.8±0.13, 99.3±0.58, 142.4±0.80, 338.0±1.34 and 484.2±2.00㎏, respectively. The effects of year of birth showed significant differences on birth weigh and highly significant differences on the other traits. The effects of age of dam showed significant differences on 4 months of age. The effects of season of birth showed significant differences on all of the traits. the calves born in winter or spring were heavier than those born in summer or fall.

        역위 매복된 상악 중절치의 외과적 재위치 후 치근 발육 정지

        상악 중절치의 매복은 소아 환자의 심미적 사회적 기능적 문제를 일으킬 수 있어 적절한 치료를 통해 바로잡아 주어야 한다. 상악 중절치 매복의 치료로 외과적 노출 후 교정적 견인이 어려울 경우 발치하기에 앞서 외과적 재위치(surgical repositioning) 혹은 치조 내 자가치아이식(intra-alveolar autotransplantation)을 고려해 볼 수 있다. 본 증례는 5세 9개월 된 남아의 역위 매복된 상악 우측 중절치를 치근 발육 초기인 Nolla's stage 6.5에 부분 맹출된 위치로 외과적 재위치를 시행하여 자발적 맹출을 기대하였으나 21개월 간의 추적 검사 결과 치관 발육 및 맹출이 정지된 증례이다. 그 원인으로서 수술 시 치배를 발거하고 치조와를 적합하는 과정에서 Hertwig's epithelial root sheath(HERS)가 손상 받았기 때문으로 생각된다. 매복 치아의 외과적 재위치 시에는 본 증례와 같이 합병증 발생 가능성이 있으므로 신중한 적응증의 선택, 치근 발달 정도를 고려한 적절한 치료 시기의 결정, 최소한의 손상을 주는 외과적 술식 등의 노력이 필요할 것이다. Impaction of the maxillary central incisor may cause social, esthetic, and functional problems in children. There are various means of treatment for the inverted maxillary central incisor, such as extraction, surgical opening followed by orthodontic traction, surgical repositioning or intra-alveolar autotransplantation prior to extraction. In this case, we surgically repositioned the inverted maxillary central incisor to normal semi-erupted position in a 5-year-old boy. The developmental stage of the inverted tooth was Nolla’ s 6.5, which indicates formation of less than one third of the root. After surgical reposition, we did follow-up for 21 months, expecting spontaneous growth. Unfortunately, poor prognosis was noted : further root was not observed. Such failure seems to originate from possible injury on Hertwig’ s epithelial root sheath by surgical trauma. We performed surgical repositioning to retain the tooth instead of extraction. However, arrest of root development occurred, which is one of the critical complications. In order to increase the success rate of the surgical reposition procedure, minimal surgical trauma is required as well as selection of adequate indication and decision of proper time of treatment considering the stage of root development.

      • 다핵균 및 단핵균으로부터 고protease 생산균주의 Screening

        4 multinucleate and 7 mononuclear fungi were investigated for screening of high protease productive strains. The protease activity of mononuclear strains was generally greater than that of multinucleate strains. For acid proteinase, Aspergillus awamori AOK 1007 and Asp. oryzae shoyu 2 as mononuclear strains were selected in glucose-polypeptnoe medium. For acid carboxypeptidase, two mononuclear strains were screened as Asp. awamori AOK 1007 and Asp. usamii mut. shirousami AOK 1011 in glusose-sodium glutanate medium. In this result, mononuclear fungi appeared higher protease production than that of multinuclear fungi. So, mononuclear fungi may gave many merits to improve protease activity by using of mutation or cell fusion technology.

        복어중독에 의한 가사 상태에서 소생한 1예

        Tetrodotoxin is a neurotoxin produced by about 90 species of puffer fish and causes paralysis of central nervous system and peripheral nerves by blocking the movement of all monovalent cation. Ingestion of tetrodotoxin produces clinical manifestations such as paresthesias(within 10-45 min), vomiting, lightheadedness, salivation, muscle twitching, dysphagia, difficulty in speaking, convulsion and death that expressed by cardiopulmonary arrest with loss of brain stem reflex sometimes. Tetrodotoxin prevents or delays ischemia induced neuronal death by way of following 3 mechanisms. Firstly, it reduces the energy demand of the brain tissues. Secondly, it delays or even prevents anoxic depolarization. Finally, it deminishes ischemia induced cell swelling and cerebral edema. We report a case of puffer fish poisoning which presented with cardiopulmonary arrest and loss of brain stem reflex, but completely recovered by aggressive cardiopulmonary resuscitation.

      • 관동맥연축의 비침습적 진단에 있어 Ergonovine Echocardiogrpahy의 유용성

        관동맥연축의 비침습적인 진단방법의 확립은 침습적인 관동맥조영술 및 연축유발검사에 비해 반복적용이 가능한 이론적인 장점이 있어 선별검사(screening test)로서의 기능뿐만 아니라 치료로 이용되는 약물의 효과비교 및 추적검사를 통한 관동맥연축의 임상ㄹ활동도 평가등에 손쉽게 이용될 수 있으라라 예상된다. 이에 저자들은 ergonovine 투여시 기록된 좌심실벽운동장애 유무가 갖는 관동맥연축에 의한 심근허혈의 진단적 가치를 평가하기 위해 Beside Ergonovine Echocardiography Test를 시행하였다. 관동맥조영술 및 연축유발검사에서 변이형협심증으로 증명된 30명(남자 27명, 평균연령 54세)과 비특이적인 흉통질환군 20명(여자 12명, 평균연령 55세)을 대상으로 관동맥조영술 다음날 ergonovine test를 시행하였다. 운동부하검사가 음성인 환자들을 대상으로 6시간 공복시킨 뒤 앙와위에서 상지정맥을 통하여 25-50microgram(이하 mcg)을 5뷴 간격으로 투여하여 흉통의 유무, 심전도 및 이면성심초음파를 5분마다 기록하였으며 총투여량이 350mcg에 도달하거나 양성반응을 보이는 경우 nitroglycerin 250mcg 정주 및 설하투여로 종료하였다. 좌심실벽운동의 분석은 side-by-side continuous cine-loop display가 가능한 QUAD screen 방법으로 판별하였다. 가역적인 심전도 변화나 국소적인 심실벽운동장애가 유발되는 경우를 양성으로 판정하였다. Ergonovine Echocardiography의 전체 민감도는 90%, 특이도는 100%로 동시에 기록된 심전도 변화의 민감도(73%)보다 높았으며 특히 흉통이 있으나 심전도 변화가 전혀 없었던 5례 모두에서 좌심실벽운동장애가 관찰되어 본 검사법의 우월성을 확인할 수 있었다. 양성반응을 보인 ergonovine 평균 투여량이 173±95mcg 이었으며 흉통발작의 빈도를 기준으로한 임상활동도가 높은 경우 활동도가 낮은 군에 비해 양성반응을 의한 총 ergonovine 투여량이 적었으며(123±86 vs 213±83mcg, p<0.01) 관동맥협착이 연축에 동반되어 있는 경우 정상 관동맥에 연축이 있는 경우보다 민감도가 더 높았다(100% va 60%, P=0.02). Ergonovine 투여로 혈압은 기저치 보다 약 17%정도 증가되었으나 맥박수는 큰 변화를 나타내지 않아 안전하게 시행될수 있었으며 오심, 두통, 견갑부통증, 심실기외수축, 방실차단 등이 소수례에서 관찰되었으나 검사로 인한 사망례는 없었다. Ergonovine 주입후 기록된 좌심실벽운동동장애는 심전도 변화보다 더 민감하게 관동맥연축에 의한 심근허혈을 진단할 수 있었으며 Ergonovine Echocardiography는 운동부하검사 등으로 심한 관동맥협착이 배제된 선별된 흉통환자들에서 관동맥연축의 진단에 안전하게 시행될 수 있는 민감하고 특이도가 높은 검사방법이며 변이형협심증의 임상활동도와 관동맥협착의 동반유무가 본 검사법의 결과에 영향을 미칠 수 있으리라 사료된다. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the clinical feasibility of bedside intravenous ergonovine test with echocardiography as a noninvasive diagnostic method for coronary vasospasm. Bedside ergonovine test was performed in 50 patients with chest pain one day after coronary angiography with spasm provocation test;30 patients showed positive results of provocation test while in 20 patients there was no evidence of coronary vasospasm. A bolus of ergonovine maleate(.025 or .05mg) was injected at 5 min intervals up to total cumulative dosage of 0.35mg, and 12-leads ECG and 2-D Echo were recorded every 3min after each injection. Left ventricular wall motion was analyzed with a commercially available ' QUAD' system. The positive criteria of beside ergonovine test included reversible ST segment elevation or depression, T wave changes in ECG(ECG criteria) and reversible regional wall motion abnormalities(RWMA) in Echo(Echo criteria). The overall sensitivity and specificity of ECG criteria were 73%(22/30) and 100% respectively ; The sensitivity of Echo criteria increased up to 90%(27/30) without the change of the specificity. Among 22 patients with reversible ECG changes only 73%(16/22) showed typical ST segment elevation while ST depression was recorded in 2 patients(9%) and minor T wave peaking or flattening without ST segment displacement in 4 patients(18%). Concomitant fixed coronary lesion does increase the sensitivity of the test compared to pure coronary vasospasm with ECG criteria(100% vs 60%, p<0.05). Mean does of ergonovine with positive results was 173±95 microgram(mcg) and the amount of does of ergonovine for positive result was significantly larger in patients with low disease activity (chest pain <5times/자) than those with high disease activity(213±83 vs 123±86mcg, p<0.01). There was no procedure related mortality or fatal arrhythmias. Ergonovine echocardiography is a highly sensitive and specific test for coronary vasospasm and is safe in selected patients in whom the exercise test is negative and severe fixed coronary artery disease has been excluded. Presence of concomitant fixed coronary artery disease and the degree of clinical activity of coronary vasospasm may influence the results of this test.

      • 개에서 교통사고에 의한 폐좌성 1례

        A 4 years old, mixed male dog with a history of traffic accident was presented to the Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital of Chungnam National University with tachypnea and respiratory distress. Physical examination showed that the dog was auscultated crackles sounds, dysynchronous abdominal breathing pattern, hemoptysis, hematuria, urodynia and right and left scleral congestion. Blood and blood chemical examination revealed that WBC, AST and ALT was highly elevated. Parenchymal pulmonary fluid and closed pneumothorax were observed by thoracic radiography. This case was diagnosed as pulmonary contusion. Intravenous fluid and oxygen was administered and also dexamethasone(1mg/kg, Ⅳ), furosemide(2mg/kg, Ⅳ), (ampicillin, 20mg/kg, Ⅳ) and meloxicam(0.2mg/kg, PO) were intravenously injected for 5 days. Abnormal clinical signs were disappeared after treatment.

        과전류 보호계전기용 광섬유 전류센서

        과전류 보호계전기에 사용할 목적으로 광섬유를 센서헤드로 사용하는 광 전류센서를 구성하였다. 전류측정의 원리는 도체 주변에 감겨진 광섬유 코일을 따라 광신호의 선형편광축이 자기장에 의하여 회전하는 정도를 측정하여 이로부터 전류의 값을 산출하는 편광측정 방법이 사용되었다. 센서코일은 10/125 mm 규격의 일반 통신용 광섬유를 미터당 20회전 이상 비틀어 제작하여 온도나진동 등의 환경적 영향을 최소화하였다. 코일의 한쪽 끝은 Faraday Rotator Mirror를 장착한 반사형으로 설계하여 계통을 해체하지 않은 상태에서도 센서의 탈×부착이 가능하고 코일의 회전수에 따라 센서의 민감도 조절이 용이하며 폐회로형 구조이므로 인근 신호원에 의한 간섭을 차단할 수 있다. 편광 빛가르개 등을 이용한 광학 신호처리부를 구성하고 표준 전류원을 이용한 전류측정 실험을 수행한 결과로 이론적인 해석과 동일한 형태의 출력을 얻을 수 있었다. 본 논문에서는 구성한 광 전류센서의 이론적 모델을 기술하고 전류측정 실험의 결과와 이론치에 대하여 비교 분석한다. A robust, accurate, broad-band, alternating current sensor using fiber-optics is being developed as a part of optical over current protection relay system. The sensor uses the Faraday effect in optical fiber and polarimetric measurements to sense electrical current. The current sensing coil consists of a length of twisted optical fiber and Faraday rotator mirror to suppress the linear birefringence effect. Due to its single-ended closed path structure, it can not only be easily installed to the target with great isolation from other fields in the vicinity, but the sensitivity can be increased by using multiple turns. This paper reports on the theoretical backgrounds of the sensor design and the preliminary experimental results.
