      • 경주 남리사지에 사용된 석재의 암석학적 특성과 원산지 해석

        이 연구는 경주 남리사지에 이용된 석재를 대상으로 암석의 성인적 분류, 광물 및 지구화학적 특성을 검토하여 석재의 기원지 추정과 고고지질학적 의미를 해석한 것이다. 남리사지에서 출토된 암석은 5종의 화강암질암 (알카리 화강암, 흑운모 화강암, 미문상 화강암, 등립질 화강암, 홍장석 화강암), 세립질 퇴적암 (셰일, 미사암), 호온펠스, 옹회암질암, 염기성 맥암 등이 있다. 이 중에서 서탑에 이용된 암석은 유백색의 중립질 알카리 화강암과 담홍색의 흑운모 화강암이 주류를 이룬다. 각 석재들의 대자율 값은 흑운모 화강암이 4.94~7.59 (평균 6.47)로서 제일 높았으며 미문상 화강암이 0.86~1.54 (평균 1.13)로 제일 낮았다. 알카리 화강암은 3.51, 홍장석 화강암이 5.88, 등립질 화강암이 4.89로서 분화경로와 산출상태에 따라 조금씩 다른 값을 보였다. 이 화강암류는 화학조성으로 볼 때, 거의 동일한 마그마 기원의 칼크-알카리 계열 화강암 영역에 해당된다. 이 석재의 화학적 풍화지수와 풍화 잠재지수는 각각 49.87~61.64와 4.12~8.46 범위로서, 현재 암석이 화학적 풍화작용이 왕성하게 발생하는 정도는 아니나 풍화잠재력은 매우 높은 것으로 나타났다. 이 화강암질암의 암석학적 및 지구화학적 특징으로 볼 때, 이들의 성인적 유형은 남산 일대에 분포하는 화강암과 동일하다. 따라서 남리사지의 석조문화재 건축에 사용된 석재는 현지에서 재료를 구하고 현장에서 제작한 자급자족형 석재와 수계의 상류지역에서 도입된 외래형 석재가 공준하고 있는 것으로 해석된다. 자급형 석재가 현지의 원료를 이용한 것은 확실하나 어느 지역에서 채석하여 어디서 가공을 하였는지는 불분명하다. Rock properties around the Namri temple site was studied source area and archaeogeological interpretations based on petrology, mineralogy and geochemistry. Excavated rocks from the area composed of granitic rocks (alkali granite, biotite granite, micrographic granite, eqigranular granite, pink feldspar granite), fine grained sedimentary rocks (shale and siltstone), hornfels, tuffaceous and basic dyke rocks. Almost rock materials of the west pagoda made of white medium grained alkali granite and biotite granite. As the magnetic susceptibility (MS), biotite granite ranges from 4.94 to 7.59 (mean 6.47), and micrographic granite is lowest value of 0.86 to 1.54 (mean 1.13). The mean MS values revealed that alkali granite = 3.51, pink feldspar granite = 5.88, eqigranular granite = 4.89, which are little variatins because of differentiation process and field occurrences. In the geochemical data, the granitic rocks represent a comagmatic calc-alkali series granite. The values of WPI and CIA for rock properties from the Namri temple site range from 49.87 to 61.64 and 4.12 to 8.46, respectively, which values don't going active weathering right now, but weathering potential represents very high. On the basis of petrology and geochemistry of the rock properties from the Namri temple site, the genetic types are the similar as those of the Namsan granite. Therefore, the using rocks of the Namri temple site suggested that domestic type rock properties getting material in the actual place and making in situ, and foreign type rock properties getting from the upstream area are coexisted. Domestic types are sure of making the actual place material, but unclear where is a quarry and working.

        Deep digital flexor tendonectomy in cats

        Owner's attitudes for tendonectomy, the advantages of this surgical technique, and postoperative complication were investigated by telephone survey. 18 cats on whom tendoncetomy was performed with or without concurrent ovario-hysterectomy or castration were included in this study. The first reason for tendonectomy was to avoid damage caused by the cat's scratching household materials. The first benefit of tendonectomy was decreasing damage to materials (89%). The primary concern of the owners of cats that underwent tendonectomy was postoperative pain after surgery (61%). Twelve cats (67%) that underwent tendonectomy recovered fully within the first three days and 6 cats (33%) recovered within two weeks. After combining the very positive rating and positive as positive, seventeen owners (94%) of cats that underwent tendonectomy had a positive attitude to the surgery.

      • Scalable fabrication of micron-scale graphene nanomeshes for high-performance supercapacitor applications

        <P>Graphene nanomeshes (GNMs) with nanoscale periodic or quasi-periodic nanoholes have attracted considerable interest because of unique features such as their open energy band gap, enlarged specific surface area, and high optical transmittance. These features are useful for applications in semiconducting devices, photocatalysis, sensors, and energy-related systems. Here, we report on the facile and scalable preparation of multifunctional micron-scale GNMs with high-density of nanoperforations by catalytic carbon gasification. The catalytic carbon gasification process induces selective decomposition on the graphene adjacent to the metal catalyst, thus forming nanoperforations. The pore size, pore density distribution, and neck size of the GNMs can be controlled by adjusting the size and fraction of the metal oxide on graphene. The fabricated GNM electrodes exhibit superior electrochemical properties for supercapacitor (ultracapacitor) applications, including exceptionally high capacitance (253 F g(-1) at 1 A g(-1)) and high rate capability (212 F g(-1) at 100 A g(-1)) with excellent cycle stability (91% of the initial capacitance after 50000 charge/discharge cycles). Further, the edge-enriched structure of GNMs plays an important role in achieving edge-selected and high-level nitrogen doping.</P>

      • The vocal communication of canines

        <P><B>Abstract</B></P><P>Canine vocalizations can be divided into several types and these types of vocalizations can carry the senders’ emotional state to receivers such as other dogs and humans. When humans send a signal consisting of short notes, it can elicit a reactive response and increase motor activity levels more so than a signal consisting of a longer continuous note. This means that humans and dogs can communicate with each other using acoustic signals. These canine vocalizations can be analyzed by computer-aided programs that evaluate several parameters including fundamental frequency, and other frequency variables like minimum and maximum frequency, duration of call, inter-call duration, amplitude variables, harmonic to noise ratio (HNR), nonlinear phenomena, like limit cycle, subharmonic, biphonation, and chaos. Dogs’ vocalizations can be analyzed using objective scientific criteria with these parameters, and using this analysis, we know that dog vocalizations fall into several context based vocal types. Also humans can distinguish the difference in dog barks. The dogs’ barking can be a behavioral problem because of their high intensity especially in urban areas. Treatment methods may include environmental manipulation, behavior modification, and positive re-enforcement. This paper discusses the literature related to scientific analysis of canine vocalization.</P>

        요추 경막외 지방종증 : 2례 보고 Two Cases Report

        Study Design : We report two cases of symptomatic spinal epidural lipomatosis (SEL) associated with long-term use of steroid medication Objectives : The purpose of this study was to assess the clinical characteristics, diagnosis and treatment of symptomatic spinal epidural lipomatosis. Summary of literature review : Spinal epidural lipomatosis is a condition in which excess adipose tissue is deposited circumferentially about the spinal cord in the epidural space. It can present neurologic symptoms including back pain, radiculopathy or cauda equina. Magnetic resonance imaging is the most helpful dignostic means and should be used initially if suspected. Treatment is decompressive laminectomy and debulking of fat. Materials and methods : Two cases of lumbar epidural lipomatosis with neurologic symptoms were discussed and evaluated by physical examination , postmyelography CT and MRI. Results : Two cases were treated with decompressive laminectomy and debulking of fat. Increased accumulation of the fatty tissue was seen predominently in posterior and posterolateral epidural space of the spinal canal, displacing and compressing the lumbar spinal cord anteriorly. Both gross and histologic evaluation revealed overgrowth of unencapsulated normal appearing fat consistent with spinal epidural lipomatosis. One case was demonstrated gradual improvement in symtoms after operation but the other was died due to medical problems. Conclusion : The authors reviewed the literature and reported the results of operative treatment of patients with lumbago, radicular pain and intermitent claudication caused by epidural lipomatosis of lumbar spine and degenerative spinal stenosis.
