Prediction of retained austenite fraction is quite important in designing advanced high strength steels since retained austeniteis the source of transformation-induced plasticity. The present study investigates the phase constitution of a medium-carbonQ&P steel by comparing various approaches to the transformation stasis of bainitic ferrite and applying them to the partitioningprocess. Among them, the modified GEB approach gave the best agreement with the experimental observation, includingthe effects of heat-treatment condition and chemical composition on phase constitution. This indicates phase transformationduring partitioning can be effectively described by the physics of Gibbs energy balance approach.
Coating with boron nitride on SiC fiber using atomic substitution

To increase the mechanical properties of ceramic matrix composite, it is important that formation of lubricant layer for crack deflection between matrix and fiber. Therefore, we fabricated uniform boron nitride (BN) lubricant layer using atomic substitution method. Silicon carbide (SiC) fiber surface was modified with amine groups using (3-amonipropyl)triethoxysilane to coat SiC fiber with BN as a solid lubricant. Then, surface was coated with graphene oxide (GO). Boric acid powder was supplied to the GO-coated fibers and the samples were heat-treated at 1200–1400 ℃ under N2 and NH3 atmospheres. An uniform BN layer could be coated on SiC fiber with 10 nm-1.11 μm. Crystallinity and thickness of BN layer could be controlled by reaction temperature. It was also confirmed that crystalline BN formed under process conditions of higher than 1400 ℃.

Nakai씨는 Angelica distans로 명명하였고(1934) Kitagawa는 A. cartilaginomarginata(Makino)Nakai var. distans Kitagawa(1936)라 하며 처녀바디 A. cartilaginomarginata(Makino) Nakai의 변종으로 취급하였다. 저자등은 이번 바디나물류의 개화기부터 결실기까지 외부형태학적 연구를 행하였고, 흰바디나물 Angelica decursiva Fr. et sav. var. distans(Nakai) Yook et Seong은 처녀바디보다 기본종의 바디나물 Angelica decursiva Fr. et sav.에 접근되므로 바디나물의 신변종으로 보고코저 한다.
Changes in the Allergenicity of Saeujeot by Fermentation

The aim of this study was to observe the changes in allergenicity of saeujeot (salted and fermented shrimp) using a competitive indirect enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (Ci-ELISA). The fermentation conditions tested for saeujeot consisted of various temperatures (25, 15, and 5℃) and salt concentrations (25, 15, and 10%). When saeujeot was fermented at a low salt concentration and high temperature, the binding ability of mAb and shrimp-allergic patient serum to allergen was significantly decreased. In particular, the binding ability of mAb to allergen in saeujeot fermented with 10% salt at 25℃ for 5 days decreased to 5%. Also, the binding ability of shrimp-allergic patient serum to allergen in saeujeot fermented for 5 days with 10% salt at 25℃ was 8%. In conclusion, the binding of mAb and shrimp-allergic patient serum to tropomyosin in saeujeot decreased with longer fermentation periods, lower salt concentrations (10%), and higher temperatures (25℃).
The Effect of Multiplexing Users in QoS Provisioning Scheduling

<P>In this paper, we consider the effect of multiplexing users in a frame (more specifically, coherent time) on providing quality of service (QoS) in multiuser wireless networks. For this purpose, we propose simple and efficient scheduling schemes that can yield substantial capacity gain. Our approach involves maximizing the throughput subject to a given delay QoS constraint by choosing the appropriate number of users to be served in a frame. We call this number the <I>degree of multiplexing</I>. We investigate the effect of the degree of multiplexing on QoS performance in wireless multiuser scheduling by analyzing the effective capacity and then develop an approach to finding the optimal degree of multiplexing by asymptotic approximation.</P>

Objective: The purpose of this study was to investigate the isolation and characterization of multipotent human periodontal ligament (PDL) stem cells and to assess their ability to differentiate into bone, cartilage, and adipose tissue. Methods: PDL stem cells were isolated from 7 extracted human premolar teeth. Human PDL cells were expanded in culture, stained using anti-CD29, -CD34, -CD44, and -STRO-1 antibodies, and sorted by fluorescent activated cell sorting (FACS). Gingival fibroblasts (GFs) served as a positive control. PDL stem cells and GFs were cultured using standard conditions conducive for osteogenic, chondrogenic, or adipogenic differentiation. Results: An average of 152.8 ± 27.6 colony-forming units was present at day 7 in cultures of PDL stem cells. At day 4, PDL stem cells exhibited a significant increase in proliferation (p < 0.05), reaching nearly double the proliferation rate of GFs. About 5.6 ± 4.5% of cells in human PDL tissues were strongly STRO-1-positive. In osteogenic cultures, calcium nodules were observed by day 21 in PDL stem cells, which showed more intense calcium staining than GF cultures. In adipogenic cultures, both cell populations showed positive Oil Red O staining by day 21. Additionally, in chondrogenic cultures, PDL stem cells expressed collagen type II by day 21. Conclusions: The PDL contains multipotent stem cells that have the potential to differentiate into osteoblasts, chondrocytes, and adipocytes. This adult PDL stem cell population can be utilized as potential sources of PDL in tissue engineering applications.
Utilization of the Bombyx mori Heat Shock Protein 70 Promoter for Screening Transgenic Silkworms

Silkworm transgenesis is now a routine method leading to a satisfactory yield of transformed animals and the reliable expression of transgenes during multiple successive generations. However, the screening of G1 transgenic individuals from numerous progeny has proved to be difficult and time-consuming work. Previously, we characterized the promoter of heat shock protein 70 from Bombyx mori (bHsp70), which is ubiquitously expressed in all tissues and developmental stages. To investigate the utilization of the bHsp70 promoter to screen transgenic individuals, the EGFP marker gene was inserted into the piggyBac vector under the control of the bHsp70 promoter. Mixtures of the donor and helper vectors were micro-injected into 3,060 eggs of bivoltine silkworms (Keomokjam). EGFP fluorescence was observed in 17 broods of transgenic silkworms under a florescence stereomicroscope. Interestingly, this fluorescent marker protein was detected not only in parts of the embryo segments on the seventh day of the G1 embryonic developmental stage but it was also detected in a part of the body of G1 hatched larvae, in the middle silk gland of G1 fifth instar larvae, and in the wings of seven-day-old G1 pupae and G1 moths. Therefore, we suggest that the bHsp70 promoter can be used for the rapid and simple screening of transgenic silkworms.
Sequential Bilateral Hip Fractures in Elderly Patients

Purpose: To evaluate the incidence and presentation of osteoporotic sequential bilateral hip fractures (SBHF) in Center for Joint Disease, Chonnam National University Hwasun Hospital as there are limited studies with variable results reported in Korea. Materials and Methods: Records of 507 patients aged >60 years old presenting with osteoporotic hip fractures between 2009 and 2015 were retrospectively reviewed to document the occurrence and presentation of sequential hip fractures; mean post-treatment follow-up was 48 months. Additionally, any correlations between sequential fractures and initial fracture and risk factors were assessed. Bone mineral density (BMD) was measured before and after sequential hip fracture for comparison. Results: There were 246 femoral neck (Group A) and 261 intertrochanteric (Group B) fractures. The cumulative incidence of SBHF was 8.2% (42 patients total; 29 in Group A and 13 in Group B). Average interval of SBHF for Group A and Group B were 37.4 months and 29.9 months, respectively. There was significant correlation between the initial fracture type and sequential fractures, particularly the trochanteric and subgroup of those with neck fractures. Hypertension as a co-morbidity and female sex have been identified as risk factors for SBHF. No significant findings were noted regarding BMD and risk factors in both groups. Conclusion: The clinical presentations of SBHF noted here concur with other worldwide studies and may guide efforts to develop relevant programs to prevent SBHF.
