Background Actinobacillus pleuropneumoniae (A. pleuropneumoniae) produces hemolytic cytotoxins, ApxI, ApxII, ApxIII, and ApxIV, causing a huge loss to the swine industry. Objective We developed the PadLysis protocol for extracting genomic DNA (gDNA) for the LAMP—LeucoCrystal Violet (LCV) colorimetric detection. A paper-based well pad for gDNA extraction was fabricated using a wax printing method. Furthermore, the LAMP amplicons were detected in situ with colorimetric dye, LCV. Results Wax-printed well pads (WPWPs) have hydrophobic wax barriers by printing a well pattern that allows the establishment of simple and equipment-free PadLysis protocol consisting of the three steps: (1) 2 min lysis, (2) 2 min washing, and (3) 1 min drying. This proposed platform allowed direct LAMP amplification for A. pleuropneumoniae field isolates. We optimized LCV chemical components to enable the accurate LAMP signal readouts. The overall assay takes up to 45 min including 5 min PadLysis, 40 min LAMP amplification, and LCV signal observation with the naked eye. Conclusion Our WPWPs–LAMP–LCV approach can be used as a rapid screening tool for A. pleuropneumoniae pleuropneumonia (APP) caused by ApxIA toxin in future outbreak areas.

SeonHyung LEE,Yang-Hoon KIM,Ji-Young AHN 한국생물공학회 2021 한국생물공학회 학술대회 Vol.2021 No.10
Cellulose materials have various advantages such as high surface area, mechanical strength, and biodgradability. For this reason, cellulose materials are widely applied in the biomedical application. In particular, cellulose materials are utilized in biomedical application such as wound healing and tissue engineering using 3D printing. Among cellulosic materials, we made a photo-curable bioink using bacterial cellulose(BC). BC was produced by Gluconacetobacter hansenii and was modified into a bio-ink material through a two-step process of carboxy methylation and methacrylation. Modification of the fabricated material was confirmed by FT-IR, NMR and TGA analysis. I2959 was added to modified methacrylated carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC-MA), which was cured using UV after printing. The optimal concentration of CMC-MA bioink was determined by considering the water absorption capacity of each ink concentration, and the produced CMC-MA bioink was printable and biodegradable. For application to the biomedical field, it was confirmed that there was no effect on the viability of cells both before and after printing and curing by cytotoxicity test. In conclusion, we have developed a BC-based bioink that can be widely applied in the biomedical application due to its advantages such as non-toxic, biodegrable and printable.

<P>Na,K-ATPase is an ionic pump that regulates the osmotic equilibrium and membrane potential of cells and also functions as a signal transducer. The interaction of Na,K-ATPase with translationally controlled tumor protein (TCTP) results, among others, in the inhibition of the former’s pump activity and in the initiation of manifold biological and pathological phenomena. These phenomena include hypertension and cataract development in TCTP-overexpressing transgenic mice, as well as the induction of tumorigenesis signaling pathways and the activation of Src that ultimately leads to cell proliferation and migration. This review attempts to collate the biological effects of Na,K-ATPase and TCTP interaction and suggests that this interaction has the potential to serve as a possible therapeutic target for selected diseases.</P>

Objective: The purpose of this study was to collect and evaluate evidence of herbal medicine treatments for the residual effects of COVID-19. Methods: Nine electronic databases, namely PubMed, Science Direct, CINAHL, CNKI, Wanfang, J-STAGE, CiNii, OASIS, and Science ON, were searched with the following keywords: 'COVID-19'; 'sequelae'; 'Convalescence' for 'P (Population)' and 'Medicine, Chinese Traditional'; 'Korean medicine'; 'Herbal medicine' for 'I (Intervention)'. For the selected studies, various clinical data were extracted including patient symptoms, pattern identification, herbal medicines prescribed, and treatment results. Results: A total of nine clinical studies were identified (two case control trials; one case series; and six case reports). Various residual symptoms had been detected in the recovery stage of COVID-19 with the most commonly used pattern identifications being deficiency in both lung and spleen and in both qi and yin. Any herbal medicine prescriptions were written using these patterns. We found several reports of the positive effect of herbal medicines in that it improved symptoms, lung function, and lung inflammation. No adverse events were reported. Conclusions: The results indicate that treatment with herbal medicines has a possible therapeutic effect on the residual symptoms of COVID-19. Large-scale studies are necessary to confirm the effectiveness of these approaches.

In this research, we investigated the luminance efficiency of the computerized embroidery methods applied to the flexible POF for realization of the textile display. Due to the nature of the flexible POF similar to that of textile yarn, it has been enabled to realize a flexible textile display by application of some adjusted fabrication methods to it. However, besides the simple property of flexibility, two requirements are still demanded for the flexible POF-based textile display and emotion: high-luminance and the method for realization of pixels in a display. Among the fabrication methods, the machine embroidery has feasibility to realize relatively higher luminance of the flexible POF-based textiles through a simple procedure. The aim of this study is to evaluate of the feasibility of the embroidery method for the flexible POF-based textile display in terms of luminance, and to approach to the suitable condition in the embroidery method to realize the textile display and emotion. To do this, the four embroidery methods, in which the bending angles from ‘around 90°’ to ‘around 180°’ were applied to the flexible POF, were developed in this study. The luminance at fifteen locations in the bent shapes in each of the four embroidery methods were examined and compared. Based on the resulted luminance efficiency according to the four embroidery methods, the suitable conditions for the embroidery method to realize relatively higher level of luminance for the textile display were suggested.
