      • TOWARD TRANSFORMATIVE RESILIENCE CAPACITY: SPORT INDUSTRY AND SPORT CONSUMER SPATIAL BEHAVIOR-BASED CONSUMER RESILIENCE

        From the standpoint of developing a transformative service to create improvements in collective wellbeing (Anderson & Ostrom, 2015), evidence of a sport–resilience relationship is gradually accumulating in the literature (Kim et al., 2022). Sport management and social science scholars are making considerable efforts to understand how sport entities with transformative services can contribute to consumer resilience—an intervention through a sport consumption experience that affects people’s abilities to cope with adversity (Inoue et al., 2022; MacIntosh et al., 2020). However, little is known about the sport industry and spatial consumer behavior in terms of consumer resilience. Although previous researchers have identified a macro-level association between sport industry and community resilience from a bird's eye view (Kim et al., 2021), it could not determine how and where sport industry at a macro level can be related to individual-level resilience through metaphors of Consumer Desire. Specifically, the spatial patterns of sport consumption (i.e., consumer spatial behavior) can be a result of sport consumer behavior affected by spatial context upon heterogeneous features of sport industry across regions (Kim et al., 2021) in the environment–behavior paradigm (Olsson & Gale, 1968). The macrolevel clustering of the sport industry in a region (environment) can be a community resource to provide individuals with the opportunity for sport consumption (behavior), which promotes the micro-level psychosocial factors for sport consumer resilience (Inoue et al., 2022). Furthermore, recent work illustrates heterogeneous spatial interaction at the regional level of the sport industry and individual-level sport consumption (Kim et al., 2022), suggesting the elaboration of cross-level spatial interaction models (Kim et al., 2021). Accordingly, in this study we aim to not only (a) determine spatially heterogeneous interactions in the association between sport industry and consumer spatial behavior in affecting consumer resilience, but also (b) identify what effect spatial interaction has on cross-level relationships. Using data focused on a multiscale-based nested geographic structure (e.g., individual-level consumption by zip code, county, state, and nation) that could elucidate the sport consumer spatial behavior, We collected multiple types of data from Florida, including the location quotient of the main seven sport industries (e.g., sport facilities) and socioeconomic factors (e.g., social vulnerability) at the county level from secondary sources. In addition, we acquired individual-level data from Qualtrics panels (1,107 Florida residents) to measure sport consumer spatial behavior (e.g., location-based sport consumption experience) and consumer resilience using the Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale. To address spatial interaction and heterogeneity, we used a comprehensive analytical model for global and local spatial analysis, including a spatial multilevel mediation (SMM) model and multiscale geographically weighted regression (MGWR) model. As a result of the SMM model, the county-level cluster of sport facilities affected individual-level participatory sport consumption, which enhanced consumer resilience (cross-level interaction effect). However, considerable spatial non-stationarity appeared in the spatial interaction, indicating interregional interactions in the cross-level effects within a county. The results of MGWR indicated significant spatially heterogeneous patterns in the association between the cluster of sport facilities and participatory sport consumption. That is, it was clarified that the spatial heterogeneous effects of the clustering of sport facilities on sport consumer spatial behavior are associated with consumer resilience. This empirical interdisciplinary work, including sport management, geography, and consumer psychology, advances knowledge of consumer spatial behavior and resilience by demonstrating heterogeneous spatial interactions. Practically, the current study calls for spatial management planning and strategy in sport industry for enhancing consumer resilience through spatial sport consumption, considering spatially varying patterns.

      • Seasonal Occurrences of Peach Pyralid Moth and Persimmon Fruit Moth in Persimmon Orchards

        This study was conducted to identify the seasonal occurrence patterns of peach pyralid moth, Dichocroscis punctiferalis (Guenee), and persimmon fruit moth, Satthmopoda masinissa Meyrick, in persimmon orchards in four different regions, Ulsan and Jinyeong in Gyeongsangbuk-do, and Naju and Yeongam in Jeollanam-do. Three pheromone traps (Delta trap, GreeAgro Tech) for each moth species were installed at each site and checked with 1 week intervals. Peach pyralid moth and persimmon fruit moth occurred in all four study sites. Two moth species exhibited two distinctive peaks, but there were some time differences in the peak among sites. Peach pyralid moth first occurred in late May to early June in Ulsan, Jinyeong and Naju but occurred in late July in Yeongam. Overall, the first peak appeared in mid- to late June but the time of the second peak varied widely among sites. Persimmon fruit moth first occurred in early to mid-June in Ulsan, Jinyeong and Naju but occurred in mid-May in Yeongam. The first peak appeared in mid- to late June in Ulsan, Jinyeong and Naju but it appeared in late May in Yeongam. The time of the second peak was around late August in the study sites except Ulsan where the second peak time was in late September.

        <P>A series of <I>N</I>-(2-amino-6-trifluoromethylpyridin-3-ylmethyl)-2-(3-fluoro-4-methylsulfonylaminophenyl)propanamides were designed combining previously identified pharmacophoric elements and evaluated as hTRPV1 antagonists. The SAR analysis indicated that specific hydrophobic interactions of the 2-amino substituents in the C-region of the ligand were critical for high hTRPV1 binding potency. In particular, compound <B>49</B><I><B>S</B></I> was an excellent TRPV1 antagonist (<I>K</I><SUB>i(CAP)</SUB> = 0.2 nM; IC<SUB>50(pH)</SUB> = 6.3 nM) and was thus approximately 100- and 20-fold more potent, respectively, than the parent compounds <B>2</B> and <B>3</B> for capsaicin antagonism. Furthermore, it demonstrated strong analgesic activity in the rat neuropathic model superior to <B>2</B> with almost no side effects. Compound <B>49</B><I><B>S</B></I> antagonized capsaicin induced hypothermia in mice but showed TRPV1-related hyperthermia.         A rapid real-time quantification in hybrid paper-polymer centrifugal optical devices

        <P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>The research progress in the centrifugal microfluidic platform provides great opportunities for simple and effective analytical measurements in a variety of areas including biomedical engineering. In this study, we propose an optical reader that can measure the transmittance in a very sensitive and rapid manner on a hybrid paper-polymer centrifugal disc platform. This device enables real-time monitoring of multiple samples by measuring the absorbance of the light transmitted through the paper integrated on the disc between the light emitting diode (LED) and the photodiode (PD) regardless of the ambient light condition. To confirm its efficiency, we analyzed one of the blood's important indicators, glucose in a successful manner within 10 s without any additional complex image analysis. In addition, we discussed the results by comparing with the reflectance-based methods and with those of the previously reported studies by introducing a figure of merit to evaluate the performance of the assay.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> Optical reader was developed for hybrid paper-polymer centrifugal disc platform. </LI> <LI> This device enables real-time detection by measuring light transmission through the paper integrated on the disc between LED and photodiode. </LI> <LI> As proof of concept, enzymatic colorimetric glucose detection was successfully performed. </LI> <LI> Micromolar detection was achieved using the present technique within 10 s without any additional complex image analysis. </LI> </UL> </P>

        A novel variant of PHEX in a Korean family with X-linked hypophosphatemic rickets

        X-linked dominant hypophosphatemic rickets are the most common form of familial hypophosphatemic rickets resulting from hypophosphatemia caused by renal phosphate wasting, which in turn is a result of loss-of-function mutations in PHEX. Herein, we report a 39-year-old female with short stature and skeletal deformities and 12-month-old asymptomatic daughter. The female has a history of multiple surgical treatments because of lower limb deformities. Her biochemical findings revealed low serum phosphorus levels with elevated serum alkaline phosphatase activity and normal serum calcium levels, suggesting presence of hypophosphatemic rickets. To identify the molecular causes, we used a multigene testing panel and found a mutation, c.667dup (p.Asp223GlyfsTer15), in PHEX gene. To the best of our knowledge, this is a novel mutation. A heterozygous form of the same variant was detected in daughter, who showed no typical symptoms such as bow legs, frontal bossing, or waddling gate, but presented early signs of impaired mineralization in both X-ray and biochemical findings. The daughter was initiated onto early medical treatment with oral phosphate supplementation and an active vitamin D analog. Because the daughter was genetically diagnosed based on a family history before the onset of symptoms, appropriate medical management was possible from early infancy.

        Comparison of the Right and Left Femur Bone Mineral Densities in Postmenopausal Women

        Objectives: Bone mineral density (BMD) is measured in the hip and posteroanterior spine; moreover, according to the 2019 International Society for Clinical Densitometry guidelines, unilateral hip can be used. This study aimed to determine whether there is a difference between the BMD of both the femurs in postmenopausal women.Methods: A total of 343 postmenopausal women were enrolled in this study from January 1, 2010, to December 31, 2019 at a single tertiary hospital. By using the Hologic® Horizon W DXA System, the femur and spine BMD was measured; BMD was recorded in g/cm2. Following regions were analyzed in both the femurs: the femur neck, the trochanter area, and total femur.Results: Mean age at imaging was 62 ± 9.7 years, and significant difference in the total BMD of both the femurs (P = 0.003) was observed. In secondary analysis, patients with osteoporosis showed significant contralateral BMD discrepancies in trochanter and total proximal femur BMD (P = 0.041 and P = 0.011, respectively). However, in women with normal BMD, no significant difference between the right and left femur BMD was observed. Furthermore, measurement of solely the unilateral hip can lead to a 16.9% of underdiagnosis in postmenopausal women.Conclusions: In conclusion, it is necessary to check BMD in both hips, particularly in patients suspected of osteoporosis.

      • Development and characterization of 12 microsatellite loci from blueberry gall midge Dasineura oxycoccana (Diptera: Cecidomyiidae)

        The blueberry gall midge, Dasineura oxycoccana (Johnson), which has been recently introduced into Korea, is a notorious pest on blueberries. This invasive insect has rapidly spread throughout Korea including Jeju island. So far, we have no epidemic information, such as invasion routes and subsequent dispersal rates in Korea. To understand population genetics of D. oxycoccana, we have developed 12 novel microsatellite loci. To obtain its sequence data, the next generation sequencing was performed using mixed individuals collected from Korea and USA. The developed loci were polymorphic, with 6 to 16 alleles in 35 individuals from a single population of Hwaseong. The analyses revealed that all 35 individuals had different multilocus genotypes with heterozygosity ranging from 0.568 to 0.790. These markers will facilitate population genetic studies of D. oxycoccana.
