RAPD Pattern of Ginseng(Panax ginseng C.A. Meyer) Lines Containing High Level of Ginsenoside

The important component for medical effect in ginseng is ginsenoside. Korea Ginseng & Tobacco Research Institute contains approximately 200 lines produced by inbred selection. It is assumed that ginseng lines containing high level of ginsenoside should be included in those lines. Besides, new breeding methods such as cell line selection in vitro and hairy root were recently developed. Therefore, this study was carried out to detect genes related to ginsenoside, and to use it for selection marker to select and distribute lines containing high level of ginsenoside. DNA was extracted from both ginseng roots and hairy roots, and the difference between the line containing high ginsenoside(KG101) and normal ginsenoside(KG103) were analysed. As a result, 28 out of 36 primers showed bands, and many primers showed band difference between ginseng lines. It is considered that the bands should be analysed using DNA sequence comparison to check if those are related to ginsenoside. In case of hairy roots of ginseng, almost no differences were found between two lines.
고속철도 건설과 관련하여 지하수위 분포를 이용한 지하수환경 변화 분석

This study is aimed for estimating change of groundwater environment in relation to constructing Honam express railway in Cheonan-Iksan section. This study was conducted by measuring depth to water and by calculating groundwater level anomaly. Depth to water ranges from 0.03 to 21.1 m and ranges from 0.17 to 227.95 m mean sea level. Distributions of depth to water, of groundwater elevation and of groundwater level anomaly were analyzed to estimate water-level change due to express railway construction. High water-level anomaly section is found in Jangjae(Cheonan)-Daejeon-Iksan section with anomaly index 85.39. High water-level change is anticipated in 22.22-24.19 km, 25.1-25.53 km, 25.53-26.46 km, 26.46-27.77 km, 28.7-29.29 km, 30.18-30.26 km, and 30.26-32.4 km sections from the start of Jangjae(Cheonan).

According to favorable water quality, groundwater is used as subsitutive water resources for surfare water. However, groundwater is contaminated more and more due to industrialization and population increase. This study assesses groundwater vulnerability to contaminants in 12 dongs (administrative districe) of Changwon city using with DRASTIC. DRASTIC was originally applied to the situations that contamination sources are on ground surface, and contaminants flow into groundwater with infiltration of rainfall. In addition to DRASTIC factors, groundwater contamination in urban area is also related with overpumping and with lowering of water level. Correlation coefficient between mumimum values of DRASTIC index and unfitness rate to drinking water quality for 10 dongs is low as 0.40. On the contrary, the correlation coefficient between minimum values of DRASTIC index and groundwater discharge rate and that between minimum values of DRASTIC index and well distribution density are 0.70 and 0.87, respectively. Thus, to evaluate the potential of groundwater contamination in urban areas, it is necessary to consider other factors such as groundwater abstraction rate and well density per unit area with ratings and weights as well as existing six DRASTIC factors.

Objectives: This study was designed to investigate the effects of horse bone powder extract on the growth of longitudinal bone in adolescent male rats. Methods: Longitudinal bone growth was measured by fluorescent microscopy. To examine the effects on the growth plate metabolism, the total height of growth plate, the induction of local insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1), and bone morphogenetic protein-2 (BMP-2) were measured. Results: Horse bone powder extract enhanced longitudinal bone growth and total height of the growth plate. Also, it promoted the induction of local IGF-1 and BMP-2 of the growth plate. Conclusions: This study shows that the horse bone powder extract effects longitudinal bone growth in adolescent rats and might be used for both stunted adolescents and inherent growth failure patients.

압축이상재(compression wood)는 경사지나 기울어서 생장한 침엽수의 줄기에서 발달하는 이상 목재로 산세가 험한 우리나라의 산림에서 자라는 수목에서 흔히 발견된다. 일반적으로 압축이상재는 곧게 자란 정상재(normal wood)와 비교하여 해부학적, 화학적, 물리적으로 큰 차이를 나타내며 그 활용도가 낮다. 본 실험에서는 제한된 양의 국내 목재자원을 보다 효율적으로 이용하기 위한 연구의 일환으로 국내 자생의 곰솔과 소나무 압축이상재의 화학적 특징과 이와 연관된 부후 저항성을 조사하였다. 화학분석결과 곰솔과 소나무 압축이상재는 곧게 자란 정상재의 변재, 심재, 대응재(opposite wood)에 비해 높은 리그닌(lignin) 및 갈락탄(galactan) 함량을 나타내었다. 반대로 글루칸(glucan) 및 만난(mannan) 함량은 정상재에 비해 낮은 수치를 보였다. 유기용매 추출물의 경우 소나무 압축이상재는 정상재의 변재에 비해 뚜렷이 높은 수치를 보였으나 곰솔 압축이상재는 유사한 수치를 나타내었다. 백색부후균인 구름버섯(Trametes versicolor )에 대한 부후 저항성은 두 수종 모두에서 정상재의 변재, 심재, 대응재보다 높았다. 이 같은 결과는 압축이상재의 높은 리그닌 함량과 뚜렷한 관련성을 보였다. 유기용매 추출물 함량과 부후 저항성과의 연관성은 소나무에서만 일부 확인되었다. 결론적으로 압축이상재는 정상재과 비교하여 생물학적으로 차이를 보였으며 이는 압축이상재가 가지는 고유의 화학적 특성과 밀접히 연관이 된 것으로 사려 된다. 이는 목재자원으로서의 곰솔 및 소나무 압축이상재의 활용은 정상재와 차별성을 가지고 접근해야함을 시사하고 있다.
