Mucoepidermoid carcinomas, first reported by Volkman(1895), form 6% to 9% of all salivary tumors. Two thirds affecting the parotid gland and the remaining third, the minor glands. As we could know from its name, mucoepidermoid carcinomas originate from ductal epithelium including squamous, mucous-secreting, and undifferentiated intermediate cells. Histologically, it is classified as well-differentiated (low grade), moderately-differentiated(intermediate grade), and poorly-differentiated (high grade) types and the treatment method and prognosis are influenced from its histological grade. We have experienced two cases of mucoepidermoid carcinoma treated surgically with good results and now would like to report these with review of literatures.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the changes of body composition, circulorespiratory functions, serum lipids after 12weeks walking exercise. Subjects were composed of ten middle-aged women. VO2max was determined for each subjects by administering a treadmill exercise test. Subjects were trained during 12weeks(80m/min, 5 frequencies /week, 1 hour). The result of this study are as follows ; 1.Weight and %fat were decreased to 4.2kg and 6.5%, respectively, after 12weeks walking exercise. 2.Circulorespiratory function was improved because of increasing in VO2max, VO2max/kg after 12weeks walking exercise. 3.Total cholesterol, Low density lipoprotein cholesterol and Triglyceride were decreased to 39.3mg/㎗, 25.6mg/㎗ and 36.5mg/㎗ respectively after 12weeks walking exercise. 4.Atherogenic Index was decreased to 1.45 after 12weeks walking exercise. In conclusion, 60min walking training was shown to maintain aerobic capacity which decrease according to aging and positive influence on preventing and improving in low HDL and hear disease to be cause by the lack of exercise.

Eagle's syndrome is the term given to symtomatic elogation of the styloid process or mineralization of the stylohyoid or stylomandibular ligament. Since ossification of stylohyoid ligament at cadeva was fist described by De Manchetics in 1652 and Weinlecher described clinical symptom which produced by elongated styloid process and osteotomy of styloid process in 1872, Clinical symptom which include sensation of a foreign body on the pharynx, dysphagai, dysphonia, referred pain, and mouth opening disturbance was termed by Eagle as Eagle's syndrome. then, case reports of Eagle's syndrome are presented. in these cases, the patient's chief complaints included periauricular radiating pain, mouth opening disturbance, foreign body sensation, dysphagia, tenderness on the neck. Through vairous X-ray examination and palpation of tonsillar fossa, elongted styloid process were confirmed. Under the general anesthesia there were successfully removed out via transoral approach technique, described by Eagle. after resented styloid process, they were freed from the symptoms without further complication. Therefor we reported these cases treated by surgical resection of styloid process with good results.

Background: In 2015, workers dismantling a fluorescent lamp factory in Korea were affected by mercury poisoning from exposure to mercury vapor. Case presentation: Eighteen out of the 21 workers who participated in the demolition project presented with symptoms of poisoning and, of these, 10 had persistent symptoms even at 18 months after the initial exposure to mercury vapor. Early symptoms of 18 workers included a general skin rash, pruritus, myalgia, sleep disturbance, and cough and sputum production. Following alleviation of these initial symptoms, late symptoms, such as easy fatigue, insomnia, bad dreams, and anxiety disorder, began to manifest in 10 out of 18 patients. Seven workers underwent psychiatric care owing to sleep disturbance, anxiety disorder, and depression, and three workers underwent dermatologic treatment for hyperpigmentation, erythematous skin eruption, and chloracne-like skin lesions. Furthermore, three workers developed a coarse jerky movement, two had swan neck deformity of the fingers, and two received care at an anesthesiology clinic for paresthesia, such as burning sensation, cold sensation, and pain. Two workers underwent urologic treatment for dysfunction of the urologic system and impotence. However, symptomatic treatment did not result in satisfactory relief of these symptoms. Conclusion: Awareness of the perils of mercury and prevention of mercury exposure are critical for preventing health hazards caused by mercury vapor. Chelation therapy should be performed promptly following mercury poisoning to minimize damage.
Clinical characteristics of papillary thyroid carcinoma arising from the pyramidal lobe
Sang Gab Yoon,Jin Wook Yi,Chan-Yong Seong,Jong-Kyu Kim,Su-Jin Kim,Young Jun Chai,June Young Choi,Kyu Eun Lee 대한외과학회 2017 Annals of Surgical Treatment and Research(ASRT) Vol.92 No.3
Purpose: Papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC) arising from the pyramidal lobe is rare; therefore, clinicopathologic evaluation is lacking. In addition, the rate of occult malignancy in the pyramidal lobe after thyroid surgery is unclear. This study is to evaluate the clinical characteristics of PTCs that involve the pyramidal lobe. Methods: The study enrolled 1,107 patients who underwent thyroid surgery for PTC at Seoul National University Hospital from 2006 to 2015. Pyramidal lobe status in pathologic reports was clear in all cases. “Pyramidal lobe-dominant PTC” was defined as single pyramidal lobe cancer or multifocal cancer with larger pyramidal lobe tumor. “Incidental pyramidal lobe PTC” was defined as occult cancer identified after thyroidectomy or as multifocal cancer with smaller pyramidal lobe tumor. Results: Ten patients were included in the pyramidal lobe-dominant PTC group. The mean age was 58 ± 12.5 years, and the mean tumor size was 0.7 ± 0.7 cm. Cervical lymph node metastasis was found in 5 patients (50%). Three patients had microscopic lymphatic invasion, and 7 had advanced American Joint Comitee on Cancer (AJCC) stage disease (5 with stage III and 2 with stage IV). Compared with conventional PTC (n = 1,058), pyramidal lobe-dominant PTC was significantly associated with lymphatic invasion (P = 0.031) and advanced AJCC stage (P = 0.022). The prevalence of incidental pyramidal lobe PTC was 3.56%. Conclusion: Pyramidal lobe PTC is relatively small in size; however, the rate of extrathyroidal extension and lymph node metastasis is high. Preoperative evaluation of nodal status is important, and the extent of surgery should be determined in accordance with the preoperative diagnosis.
