<P>Herewith we report the encapsulation of functional protein synthesis machinery in a silica sol–gel matrix. When the sol–gel reaction using alkoxysilane monomers was carried out in the presence of Escherichia coli cell extract, macromolecular protein synthesis machinery in the cell extract was successfully immobilized within a silica gel matrix, catalyzing the translation of co-immobilized DNA when supplied with small-molecular-weight substrates for protein synthesis. The efficiency of protein synthesis was affected by the pore size of the gel structure, which was controlled through the use of appropriate additives during the sol–gel reactions. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report describing the reproduction of the entire set of complicated biological process within an inorganic gel matrix, and we expect that the developed technology will find many applications in numerous fields such as high-throughput gene expression and the development of multifunctional biosensors. Overexpression of HER2 in breast cancer cells is considered to induce the expression of acetyl-CoA carboxylase α (ACACA) and fatty acid synthase (FASN) through activation of mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR) signaling pathway. Resveratrol, a red wine polyphenol, has been shown to induce apoptosis in several cancers by interfering in several signaling pathways. Present study elucidated the mechanism by which resveratrol downregulates ACACA and FASN in breast cancer cells. Resveratrol activated AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK) and downregulated mTOR in BT-474 cells. These effects of resveratrol were mimicked by AICAR, an AMPK activator, and exogenously expressed constitutively active AMPK, while they were abolished by a dominant-negative mutant of AMPK. The downregulation of mTOR was not accompanied with changes in Akt, the upstream regulator of mTOR. These findings indicate that the downregulation of ACACA and FASN by resveratrol is mediated by the downregulation of mTOR signaling pathway via activation of AMPK.

In the treatment of affective disorders with lithium, nephrogenic diabetes insipidus is a common side effect, Lithium induces a vasopressin-resistant defect in urinary concentration of kidney. We described a 50 years old woman on chronic lithium intake for her manic-depressive disorder with polyuria due to nephrogenic diabetes insipidus and acute mental change with dehydration, but she was treated by hydration and amiloride effectively. This case reminded us that the amiloride could be used as a good therapeutic agent for the lithium induced nephrogenic diabetes insipidus.
Direct growth of patterned graphene on SiO2 substrates without the use of catalysts or lithography.

<P>We demonstrate a one-step fabrication of patterned graphene on SiO2 substrates through a process free from catalysts, transfer, and lithography. By simply placing a shadow mask during the plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition (PECVD) of graphene, an arbitrary shape of graphene can be obtained on SiO2 substrate. The formation of graphene underneath the shadow mask was effectively prevented by the low-temperature, catalyst-free process. Growth conditions were optimized to form polycrystalline graphene on SiO2 substrates and the crystalline structure was characterized by Raman spectroscopy and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). Patterned graphene on SiO2 functions as a field-effect device by itself. Our method is compatible with present device processing techniques, and should be highly desirable for the proliferation of graphene applications.</P>

<P>The integration of graphene into devices is a challenging task because the preparation of a graphene-based device usually includes graphene growth on a metal surface at elevated temperatures (∼1000 °C) and a complicated postgrowth transfer process of graphene from the metal catalyst. Here we report a direct integration approach for incorporating polycrystalline graphene into light emitting diodes (LEDs) at low temperature by plasma-assisted metal-catalyst-free synthesis. Thermal degradation of the active layer in LEDs is negligible at our growth temperature, and LEDs could be fabricated without a transfer process. Moreover, <I>in situ</I> ohmic contact formation is observed between DG and p-GaN resulting from carbon diffusion into the p-GaN surface during the growth process. As a result, the contact resistance is reduced and the electrical properties of directly integrated LEDs outperform those of LEDs with transferred graphene electrodes. The BSR noise is induced by impacting or rubbing on each part, sound quality of BSR noise which mean as sound tone, interval and intensity is determined by material characteristics, assembly pattern and impact characteristic of paired parts. In this paper, it is suggested to generate real BSR noise by sound synthesis method to synthesize the virtual sound generated from the result of the transient analysis on seat module and the BSR Noise Pattern which sound characteristic extracted from the specimen test as effect of material properties and environment change. It is conducted comparative study with real BSR sound and generated sound to improve the appropriateness of the BSR noise expectation.
