      • Helicobacter pylori babA2 Positivity Predicts Risk of Gastric Cancer in Ardabil, a Very High-Risk Area in Iran

Abdi, Esmat,Latifi-Navid, Saeid,Yazdanbod, Abbas,Zahri, Saber Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2016 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.17 No.2

Background: Ardabil, a Northwestern province of Iran, was found to have the highest rate of gastric cancer (GC) in the country (ASRs = 51.8/100,000 for males and 24.9/100,000 for females) and one of the highest gastric cardia cancer rates in the world. The aim of the present study was to assess the associations of the cagA and babA2 status of Helicobacter pylori with GC in the Ardabil population. Materials and Methods: A total of 103 patients with non-atrophic gastritis (56) and GC (47), who underwent endoscopy at the Imam Khomeini Hospital in Ardabil, were assessed. The status of 16S rDNA, cagA and babA2 genes was determined using PCR and histopathological assessment was performed. Results: The following genotypic frequency was observed: cagA+ (50.6%), cagA-(49.4%), babA2+ (26.5%), babA2- (73.5%) cagA+/babA2+ (19.3%), cagA-/babA2+ (7.2%), cagA+/babA2-(31.3%), cagA-/babA2-(42.2%). Although the frequency of the cagA+, cagA+/babA2+ and cagA-/babA2+ genotypes in patients with GC (55.6%, 25.9%, and 14.8%, respectively) was higher than in those with NAG (48.2%, 16.1%, and 3.6%, respectively), the difference did not reach significance. In contrast, the presence of the babA2 gene (40.7% vs 19.6%) significantly increased the risk of GC; the age-sex-adjusted odds ratio (95% confidence interval) was 5.068 (1.506-17.058; P=0.009), by multiple logistic regression. Conclusions: It is proposed that the H. pylori babA2 positivity might be considered as an important determinant of GC risk in Ardabil.

Effect of Natural Zeolite and Paclobutrazol on Reducing Salt Stress in Kentucky Bluegrass (Poa pratensis L.)

        Gholamreza Abdi,Hassan Salehi,Saeid Eshghi 한국원예학회 2010 Horticulture, Environment, and Biotechnology Vol.51 No.3

A greenhouse experiment was conducted to study the effect of zeolite and drench application of paclobutrazol (PBZ) on the salt stress response. Kentucky bluegrass (Poa pratensis L.) turfs were grown in boxes filled with sand (100%), sand + 15% zeolite, sand + 30 ㎎ PBZ, and sand + 15% zeolite + 30 ㎎ PBZ, and were irrigated with 0.24 (control irrigation), 3.4 and 6.4 dS · m?¹ saline water daily for 6 months in greenhouse condition. Saline water reduced TQ, TFW, TDW, CY, PR, transpiration, SC, ME, and WUE, compared to control condition, Paclobutrazol and salinity treatments reduced growth and development, progressively produced plant that were too small especially at the highest saline concentration. Amendment of sand with zeolite increased TQ, TFW, TDW, CFW, CDW, PR, transpiration, SC, ME, and WUE during both second and third months of the experiment at both salinity levels. The beneficial effects of zeolite on turf quality and other parameters diminished 3 months after treatment. Amendment of sand with zeolite reduced leaching of Na and K but increased leaching of Ca?? and Mg??. Using zeolite in medium increased SAR value compared to control. Results indicated that amending with zeolite may buffer soil solution Na+ concentration in short-term. In the long-term, however, a substantial amount of Na? may be retained concurrent with Ca?? and Mg?? exchange, thereby increasing sodicity and salinity problems. Furthermore, results indicated that PBZ can reduce salinity effect via reducing the availability of salt ions in the medium.

      • Delay-Dependent Functional Observer Design for Linear Systems With Unknown Time-Varying State Delays

        Mohajerpoor, Reza,Shanmugam, Lakshmanan,Abdi, Hamid,Nahavandi, Saeid,Park, Ju H. IEEE 2018 IEEE transactions on cybernetics Vol.48 No.7

<P>Partial state estimation has numerous applications in practice. Nevertheless, designing delay-dependent functional observers (FOs) for systems with unknown time delays is rigorous and still an open dilemma. This paper addresses the problem for linear time-invariant systems with state time-varying delays. The delay is assumed to be bounded in an interval with a bounded derivative. A sliding mode FO structure that is robust against the delay uncertainties is established to this aim. The structure employs an auxiliary delay function that can be defined based on the existing knowledge on the actual delay values. Delay-dependent <I>sufficient</I> conditions for the stability of the observer are obtained using the Lyapunov Krasovskii approach, and are expressed in terms of a linear matrix inequality and two rank conditions. The <I>delay-free</I> observer structure is additionally studied and the <I>necessary and sufficient</I> conditions for its stability are obtained. Two descriptive numerical examples and simulation results demonstrate the design procedure and emphasize the effectiveness of the proposed observer design algorithm.</P>

Turf Seedling Height and Quality in Paclobutrazol-treated Seeds of Lolium perenne L. ‘Barbal’ Sown in the Soil Mixed with Zeolite

        Mahsa Shahrokhi,Hassan Salehi,Saeid Eshghi,Gholamreza Abdi 한국원예학회 2008 Horticulture, Environment, and Biotechnology Vol.49 No.6

To determine the effect of paclobutrazol on seedling height and visual quality, seeds of Lolium perenne L. ‘Barbal’ were soaked with 15, 30 and 45 ㎎?L-1 paclobutrazol for 24 h on shaker during imbibitions stage of seed germination. Treated seeds were potted in the soil mixtures containing 5, 10, 15 and 30 percent zeolite with gardening soil and sand. 30 ㎎?L-1 paclobutrazol followed by 15% zeolite resulted in the lowest seedling height. After the first mowing, lower heights were obtained in 30 ㎎?L-1 paclobutrazol with 30% zeolite and in 45 ㎎?L-1 paclobutrazol without zeolite. Paclobutrazol and zeolite combined at the highest concentrations resulted in the lowest height and clipping dry weight at second mowing. Treatment of 5 % zeolite had lower color quality but paclobutrazol at concentration of 15 ㎎?L-1 produced the highest turf quality. It can be concluded that using zeolite in the media can lower the height of seedlings previously treated with paclobutrazol.

Motor and Sensory Outcomes of Infantile Exotropia: A 10-Year Study (2008–2017)

        Zhale Rajavi,Hamideh Sabbaghi,Narges Behradfar,Saeid Abdi,Razieh Bahraini,Bahareh Kheiri,Kourosh Sheibani 대한안과학회 2020 Korean Journal of Ophthalmology Vol.34 No.2

Purpose: We aimed to determine the long-term motor and sensory outcomes of patients with infantile exotropia. Methods: In this longitudinal retrospective (historical cohort) study, the records of 76 patients with infantile exotropia were Studied. Subjects with constant exotropia manifesting before the age of 1 year who were at least 5 years old at recruitment time between 2008 and 2017 were included. Results: The medical records of 26 patients were excluded due to not participating in follow-up examinations or having incomplete records. In total, 54 infantile exotropic patients (51.9% male) with a mean age of 11.1 ± 6.8 years and follow-up of 4.99 ± 3.58 years were studied. Postoperative sensory outcomes (central stereopsis [<60 sec/arc], peripheral fusion [60–3,000 sec/arc], and non-stereopsis [>3,000 sec/arc]) were observed in 38.9%, 38.9%, and 21.2% of patients, respectively. In terms of postoperative motor outcomes, 69%, 24%, and 7% were achieved as orthophoria, residual exotropia, and consecutive esotropia, respectively. Patients with a higher surgical age (p = 0.022) and better visual acuity (p = 0.004) had significantly better sensory outcomes, while higher preoperative deviation resulted in more suppression (p = 0.039, rs = 0.218). Conclusions: With rates of 69% for motor success and 78.8% for sensory success, surgical outcomes of infantile exotropic patients seems to be favorable. Further studies are recommended to verify our findings.
