• Hardware-in-the-loop Simulation in Mechatronics System Design

        D. Shetty,최성주 한국기술교육대학교 2004 論文集 Vol.10 No.2

This paper presents a team based approach to mechatronics system design courses that attempt to make the educational experience more closely related to what the students will find in the industrial setting. The primary goal of this paper is to give a systematic description of a few mechatronic technology examples that provide the building blocks of sensors, modeling, data acquisition and control. Typical examples discussed in the paper are Mechatronics Technology Demonstrator using damped oscillator system, Real Time Embedded Vibration Monitoring and Control, Thrust Control for Rocket Propulsion, Active Noise Control, and Time Delay Heat Blowers. The ideas and techniques developed during theinterdisciplinary simulation process provide the ideal conditions to raise synergy and provide a catalytic effect for discovering new and simpler solutions to traditionally complex problems. Mechatronic products exhibit performance characteristics that were previously difficult to achieve without this synergistic combination.

A Facile Solvent and Catalyst Free Synthesis of New Dihydro Pyrimidinones as Antimicrobial Agents

        Hemant Hegde,안철진,Santosh L. Gaonkar,Nitinkumar S. Shetty 대한화학회 2019 대한화학회지 Vol.63 No.6

An efficient one pot multicomponent synthesis of pyrimidinone derivatives of Biginelli type is described. 4- amino-6-aryl-pyrimidine-5-carbonitrile molecules were synthesized efficiently via three-component Biginelli-type condensation of aldehyde, malononitrile, and semicarbazone as urea substituent in the presence of a catalytic amount of PEG-400 as green medium under microwave irradiation. The reactions proceeded efficiently in the presence of microwave radiation to afford the desired products in good to excellent yields. Products have been confirmed by IR, and NMR spectral analysis. All the molecules were tested for their antimicrobial activity against E. coli, S. aureus, P. aeruginosa and C. tropicalis. Some of the compounds have shown moderate to good inhibition efficiency against both gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria. The potent activity was observed against the fungal species with minimum inhibition concentration 12.5 µg/mL.

Flexural bond strength behaviour in OPC concrete of NBS beam for various corrosion levels

        Shetty, Akshatha,Venkataramanaa, Katta,Babu Narayan, K.S. Techno-Press 2014 Structural Engineering and Mechanics, An Int'l Jou Vol.49 No.1

Corrosion is one of the primary reasons why structures have limited durability. The present investigation is carried out to study the behavior of RC (Reinforced Concrete) structural members subjected to corrosion. Experimental investigations were carried out on National Bureau of Standard (NBS), RC beam specimens made of Ordinary Portland Cement (OPC) concrete. Load versus deflection behaviour was studied for different levels of corrosion i.e., 2.5%, 5%, 7.5% and 10%. It is observed that for every percentage increase in corrosion level, there is about 1.6% decrease in load carrying capacity. Also as the amount of corrosion increases there is a reduction in bond stress.

      • Core-Modified Analogues of Expanded Porphyrins Containing Rigid β,β′-Linkedo-Phenylene Bridges

        Shetti, Vijayendra S.,Kee, Se-Young,Lee, Chang-Hee Wiley (John WileySons) 2014 Chemistry - An Asian Journal Vol.9 No.3

Structural modifications that lead to the creation of π-extended aromatic macrocyles involving a heterocyclic ring other than pyrrole and rigid β-β' linkages have not been well studied up to date. The rigidity caused by the conformational restriction would change the spectroscopic properties of the system as compared with those of the normal congeners. With these considerations, we have synthesized and fully characterized π-extended, core modified expanded porphyrins bearing rigid bipyrrole units. Core-modified naphthorubyrins were synthesized by the Lewis acid-catalyzed condensation of naphthobipyrrole with thiophene/furan diols, whereas naphthosapphyrins were obtained by reacting 2,9-diformyl-naphthobipyrrole with 16-thia/oxatripyrranes under mild reaction conditions. The core-modified analogues of both naphthorubyrin and naphthosapphyrin displayed the aromatic character. The dithiarubyrin analogues showed a lack of conformational change as expected and displayed well-resolved (1) H?NMR resonances at room temperature. On the other hand, the oxasapphyrin analogue adopts a furan-inverted geometry, and the ring inversion is independent of the protonation state. The oxanaphthosapphyrin also exhibited a weak fluorescence emission at 613?nm.

Dravya: a Putative Organic Treatment against Alternaria padwickii Infection in Paddy

        S. G. Sathyanarayana,S. Lokesh,T. Vasanth Kumar,H. S. Shetty 한국통합생물학회 2006 Animal cells and systems Vol.10 No.1

In the present study, Dravya-an organic compound used for seed treatment along with the common fungicides to test its compatibility in the management of Alternaria padwickii in paddy. Dravya (a sea weed extract) was found highly compatible with fungicides like Bavistin and Dithane M-45. Incidence of Alternaria padwickii and Bipolaris oryzae was also reduced to a greater extent in the paddy seed samples of Dravya treatment. On the other hand, it also enhanced the seed germination and seedling vigour. Seedlings of treated samples also showed enhanced activity of peroxidase upon challenge inoculation with Alternaria padwickii. The enzyme activity in the seedlings challenged with the pathogen was two fold more over control. The suppression in disease incidence in growing plants indicated the promising effect of Dravya and Dithane M-45 under green- house conditions.

        S. G. Sathyanarayana,S. Lokesh,T. Vasanth Kumar,H. S. Shetty 한국식물병리학회 2006 Plant Pathology Journal Vol.22 No.1

Innate defence mechanism in plants can be triggered and enhanced by certain agents, referred as inducers against broad range of pathogens. In the present study, Dravya (a sea weed extract) was highly compatible with commonly available synthetic fungicides, Bavistin and Dithane M-45. Incidence of Alternaria padwickii and Bipolaris oryzae was also reduced to a greater extent in the paddy seed samples in Dravya treatment. Dravya also enhanced the seed germination and seedling vigour. Seedlings of treated samples also showed enhanced activity of peroxidase upon challenge inoculation with Alternaria padwickii. The enzyme activity was two fold high after the inoculation of pathogen. The suppression in disease incidence in growing plants indicated the promising effect of Dravya and Dithane M-45 under green-house condition.

Effectiveness of an extraoral cold and vibrating device in reducing pain perception during deposition of local anesthesia in pediatric patients aged 3-12 years: a split-mouth crossover study

        Ashveeta Shetty,Shilpa S Naik,Rucha Bhise Patil,Parnaja Sanjay Valke,Sonal Mali,Diksha Patil 대한치과마취과학회 2023 Journal of Dental Anesthesia and Pain Medicine Vol.23 No.6

Background: Local anesthetic injections may induce pain in children, leading to fear and anxiety during subsequent visits. Among the various approaches recommended to reduce pain, one is the use of a Buzzy BeeTM device that operates on the concept of gate control theory and distraction. The literature regarding its effectiveness during the deposition of local anesthesia remains limited; hence, the aim of the present study was to determine the efficacy of extraoral cold and vibrating devices in reducing pain perception during the deposition of local anesthesia. Methods: A split-mouth crossover study in which 40 children aged 3-12 years requiring maxillary infiltration or inferior alveolar nerve block for extractions or pulp therapy in the maxillary or mandibular posterior teeth were included. The control intervention involved the application of topical anesthetic gel for one minute (5% lignocaine gel), followed by the administration of local anesthetic (2% lignocaine with 1:80,000 adrenaline) at a rate of 1 ml/ minute. Along with the control protocol, the test intervention involved using the Buzzy BeeTM device for 2 minutes before and during the deposition of the local anesthetic injection. The heart rate and face, legs, arms, cry, and consolability revised (FLACC-R) scale scores were recorded by the dentist to assess the child’s pain perception. Results: The mean age of the participants in Group A and Group B was 7.050 ± 3.12 years and 7.9 ± 2.65 years respectively. A reduction in the mean heart rate and FLACC-R score was observed during the deposition of local anesthetic solution in the tissues when the Buzzy BeeTM was used in both groups at different visits in the same subjects (P < 0.05) The Buzzy BeeTM device was effective in reducing the heart rate and FLACC-R scores when used during maxillary infiltration and inferior alveolar nerve block local anesthesia techniques (P < 0.05). Conclusion: The use of extraoral cold and vibrating devices significantly reduces pain perception during local anesthetic deposition in pediatric patients. Considering the results of this study, the device may be incorporated as an adjunct in routine dental practice while administering local anesthesia in children.
