      • 연쇄상구균을 실험감염시킨 넙치치어의 병리조직학적 관찰

        Pathological observations were examined after abdominal inoculation in 7∼8㎝ sized flounder (Paralichthys olivaceus) with 1X10^7 cfu/㎖ of Streptococcus faecalis. The infected flounder were clinically observed and weighed a fish body at 0, 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30 days post inoculation. In infected group, mortality were 70% and feed efficiency were 7.2%. In non-infected group, mortality were 10% and feed efficiency were 18.2%. Macroscopically, the significant lesions were characterized by protrusions and opacity of the eyes and ulcer of the caudal pecuncle. Histopathologically, the lesions were observed a degeneration. necrosis and inflammatory cells in muscle of the caudal peduncle and a degeneration and necrosis of the rod cells and detached retina from the black pigmented layer

      • Nicotine이 발생중인 鷄胎의 體重 成長에 미치는 영향

        The authors studies the effects of Nicotine on the Body weight growth of the developmental chick embryo. On the sixth day of incubation, 0.41mg, 0.82mg and 1.65mg of Nicotine were injected into the chorioallantoic sac of each egg of three groups and one group was injected physiological saline solution as a control, and the eggs were broken for weighting the body weight in every other day from the twelfth day to eighteenth day of incubation. In an attempt to analyze the growth of the body weights, growth formula of Zimmerman and relative growth formula of Huxley were applied. The following results were obtained. 1. The growth of chick embryo boby weight was affected as inhibiting by the Nicotine. The inhibiting effects were in proportion to the injected Nicotine dosage. 2. The growth quantity of the body weight injected 1.65mg was almost half weight of the control group body weight. 3. Growth rate was decreased continuously with tine until 18th day in the 1.65mg injected group but it was increased in 0.41mg and 0.82mg injected group with time lapse from 12th day to 18th day, and 0.41mg injected group was more increased than 0.82mg injected group. 4. Specific growth rate decreased in the all of 0.41mg, 0.82mg and 1.65mg injected group and in the decrease degree 1.65mg and 0.82mg injected group ware severe and 0.41mg injected group was slight. 5. Growth centers of growth gradient were 12th day in the 0.41mg injected group and 18th day in the 0.82mg and 1.65mg injected groups. 6. Relative growth rate was also decreased proportionally in related with injected Nicotine dosage.

      • 마우스에서 오존수의 급여가 쥐와포자충 감염에 미치는 영향

        Ozone is very effective in acute and chronic viral disease as a virucidal agent in reversing positive antibody tests and in improving the general health of the animals. The effects of ozonized water supply against Cryptosporidium muris was studied in 5-weeks-old mice. After oral inoculation of mice with 1×10^6 oocysts, ozonized water(0.5ppm) and tap water were supplied to experimental and control group, respectively. The prepatent period of both group was 8 days postinoculation(PI). The patent period of experimental group was longer(62days) than that of experimental group(57days). The number of oocysts in the feces were maxium on days 28 PI, indicating 3.54×10^6 oocysts/experimental mouse and 5.56×10^6 oocysts/ control mouse. The number of discharge oocysts during 12-33 PI was more in control group than that of experimental group. In the view of gastric gland section on days 28 PI, the number of endogenous development of C muris was smaller in experimental group than in control group. This results indicates that the autoinfected sporozoite were damaged by ozone.

        A case of horseshoe kidney which was found during dissection of cadaver was reported with a brief review of literatures. The main findings were as follows; 1. This horseshoe kidney was supplied by the 4 renal arteries were obtained from the aorta and 1 renal artery was originated from the common iliac artery. 2. The pelvis of the horseshoe kidney were placed anteriorly and the ureters were passed anteriolateral surface to the renal isthmus. 3. In the horseshoe kidney, the renal stone was not observed and the isthmus was consisted of the renal parenchyma.

        선천성 Long QT 증후군 환자의 경흉부 교감신경절제술을 위한 마취관리

        A 23-year-old female patient was diagnosed with congenital long QT syndrome, discovered when she visited our cardiac department due to chest discomfort, because she had a prolonged QTc interval on ECG, history of syncopal attacks and seizures several times every year, and ingestion of anticonvulsants for several yeam. It is well known that the long QT syndrome is associated with sudden death secondary to ventricular tachyarrhythmia or fibrillation at a young age. Moreover cardiac artests during induction, maintenance, and awakening of anesthesia of these patients have been reported, and may be due to asymmetrical adrenergic stimuli in the heart, especially in the unrecognised case. This case report describes the anesthetic management of a patient with congenital long QT syndrome, who presented for cervicothoracic sympathectomy for a more permanent control of life-threatening ventricular arrhytbmias, and reviews the related literature.

        Pilomatricoma was histopathologically diagnosed in a 2.5-year-old male Alaskan malamute. The patient was referred to Chungnam National University, Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital with solitary, firm and well-circumscribed mass at shoulder. Grossly, the mass was dome shaped to tumor like and 10 x 8 x 5㎝ in size. Some lesions had gritty or bony consistency and was chalky when sectioned Histopathologic feature included mumerous clusters of tightly arranged, basaloid cells with evenly distributed chromatin and ghost cells were characterized by a central unstained zone. The ghost cells often become calcified and osseous metaplasia was also present.

      • Doubled Haploid Corn Breeding and Introduction of the Technology for Practical Inbred Line Development in Korea

        Maize breeding is mainly divided by two steps; line development and hybrid selection. Line development is very important procedure to make good hybrids and this line development in Korea is fully depend upon conventional methods like pedigree selection, back-cross, etc. For development of pure line, we have to do self-pollination for at least seven cycles. This line development system is tedious, labor-intensive, and time-consuming procedure. Doubled Haploid technology for maize is a new system to develop inbred lines within short period and many maize research institutes in foreign advanced countries have been actively using this technology. Using Doubled Haploid technology, we can greatly reduce the period of line development and strengthen maize research ability in Korea. Key requisite for Doubled Haploid breeding is possession of inducer lines which can produce haploid when source population is crossed with them. Maize Research Institute in Gangwon Province secures the right of using inducer lines and is trying to introduce Doubled Haploid breeding in Korea. Doubled Haploid breeding system is as follows; crossing between population and inducer, separation haploid seeds from F1 seeds, chromosome doubling, doubled plant management, self-pollination, seed multiplication, and assessment. We expect our breeding capacity will be progressed by introduction of Doubled Haploid technology. When this technology comes to combine with marker assisted selection, we can increase competitiveness against global institutes.

      • Development of field corn varieties for adaptation of Primorsky Krai in Russia

        We are importing corn grains more than eight million tons every year, and self-sufficiency rate of corn is less than one percent. It is not easy to increase field corn production in Korea because of limited arable land. For this reason, many companies have been interesting overseas agriculture for corn production. But they don’t have enough suitable variety for the target area. Our objective is to develop field corn varieties for adaptation in Primorsky Krai which is the southeasternmost region of Russia. This project has been collaborated with Dr. Huk-Ha Lee in Seoul National Univ. and planted three times in Primorsky Krai since 2011. Planting materials for this project were developed in Maize Research Institute. 74 hybrids in 2011, 76 in 2012, and 80 in 2013 were planted for regional performance test. Primorsky Krai is a colder area and has less frost-free days than Korea. Several hybrids have shown good performance, but lots of materials developed in Korea could not fully ripened in 2011 because of late planting and early frost. In 2012, we mainly selected early flowering materials as well as picked materials from first year. The silking date of our materials was later than local commercial varieties, but some our hybrids had good characteristics and high yield. Among them, we picked two hybrids and planted them in Ussuriysk in Primorsky Krai for field demonstration test. We expect some of the selected hybrids can be candidate varieties for improvement of corn production at overseas agricultural production base.

        Feature-Based Hand Gesture Recognition Using an FMCW Radar and its Temporal Feature Analysis

        <P>In this paper, feature-based gesture recognition in a frequency modulated continuous wave (FMCW) radar system is introduced. We obtain a range-Doppler map (RDM) from raw signals of FMCW radar and generate a variety of features from the RDM. The features are broadly defined to reflect radar-specific characteristics as well as statistical values commonly used in machine learning. Among these radar features, those that are highly correlated with gesture recognition are selected by the proposed feature selection algorithm, which is a wrapper-based feature selection algorithm incorporated with a quantum-inspired evolutionary algorithm (QEA). Furthermore, the information factor based on the minimum redundancy maximum relevance criterion is applied to QEA in order to find feature subsets effectively. The proposed algorithm is able to extract from all feature sets feature subsets related to gesture recognition, and improves the gesture recognition accuracy of the FMCW radar system. In addition, we analyze which features of the radar are helpful for gesture recognition and perform effective gesture recognition using the features determined through feature analysis.</P>
