Excitation of the beta-induced Alfvén eigenmodes by a magnetic island

        Marchenko, V.S.,Reznik, S.N. International Atomic Energy Agency 2009 Nuclear fusion Vol.49 No.2

It is shown that a pair of counter-propagating, tearing-parity, beta-induced Alfvén eigenmodes (BAEs) with low mode numbers can be excited in the presence of a magnetic island of the same helicity. The instability mechanism consists of the reversal of ion Landau damping due to island-induced modification of the equilibrium distribution function. This instability seems to be responsible for the BAE excitation in ohmic plasmas with tearing mode activity at the FTU tokamak (Buratti P. et al 2005 Nucl. Fusion 45 1446).

      • Poster Session : PS 0319 ; Hematology : Combination of Factor XIII Defi ciency and Connective Tissue Dysplasia

        ( Gennady Storozhakov ),( Elena Reznik ),( Maria Komissarova ),( Sergey Lepkov ),( Gennady Gendlin ) 대한내과학회 2014 대한내과학회 추계학술대회 Vol.2014 No.1

Background: Factor XIII defi ciency is an extremely rare inherited blood disorder characterized by abnormal blood clotting that may result in abnormal bleeding. Connective tissue dysplasias comprise a heterogeneous group of diseases, characterized by fragility of the soft connective tissues and widespread manifestations in skin, ligaments, joints, blood vessels and internal organs. Combination of factor XIII defi ciency and connective tissue dysplasia wasn`t described well. Case report: 30-years-old man presented to the emergency department complaining of progressive pain in left part of back and left part of abdomen, syncope, weakness, and dysuria. Patient had no history of a bruising or bleeding tendency and any injury. The massive left side retroperitoneal hematoma was revealed after screening tests. Patient was promptly taken for surgical evacuation of the hematoma. Left kidney and vessel damage wasn`t found out during the operation. The multiple plasma transfusions, comprehensive medical therapy, hemodialysis were used in the postoperative period. Despite the procedures the patient was unstable. Diagnostic work-up was unremarkable for global coagulation and platelet tests, but factor XIII activity was decreased to 36%. Repeated examination of patient (ultrasound, computed tomography imaging) revealed the massive right side retroperitoneal hematoma, bleeding in the abdomen, hemothorax, hemopericardium. Patient was promptly taken for relaparotomy, abdominoscopy, retroperitoneal space revision, hemostatic procedures. Despite the treatment the patient died during two weeks due to multiple organ failure. Autopsy revealed undifferentiated connective tissue dysplasia. Conclusions: In this case we have fatal combination of two rare diseases: factor XIII defi ciency and connective tissue dysplasia. The attention to the possibility of such combination may help promptly prescribe the right treatment to patients.

      • Features of Work in the Senior Classes of the Lyceum on the Basis of an Activity Approach to the Study of the Ukrainian Language

        Stanislav Karaman,Valentyna Aleksandrova,Iryna Kosmidailo,Tetiana Reznik,Yuliia Nabok-Babenko International Journal of Computer ScienceNetwork S 2023 International journal of computer science and netw Vol.23 No.11

The main purpose of the article is to study the peculiarities of the work of the Ukrainian language in the upper grades of the lyceum based on the activity approach. Despite the fact that a number of scientific studies and applied developments on teaching Ukrainian as a foreign language have recently appeared in Ukrainian linguistics, significant problems in this area should be recognized (organization of the educational process when learning a language as a foreign language, general methodological principles, psycho- and sociolinguistic foundations, communicative approaches), the non-resolution of which leads to methodologically unreasonable teaching of the Ukrainian language as a foreign language, the use of methods of teaching the language as a native language or the study of the language as a subject (linguistic aspect). In addition, due attention is not paid to the development of communication skills, which, firstly, worsens the quality of teaching and learning. Based on the results of the analysis, the key aspects of the work on the Ukrainian language in the senior classes of the lyceum were analyzed on the basis of an activity approach.

Excitation of the beta-induced Alfvén eigenmode by a plasma flow around the magnetic island

        Marchenko, V.S.,Panwar, A.,Reznik, S.N.,Ryu, C.M. IOP 2016 Nuclear fusion Vol.56 No.10

It is well known that the rotation of a magnetic island in the reference frame of plasma guiding centers generates parallel electron current outside the island, which is induced by the geodesic curvature of a magnetic field (Smolyakov et al 2007 Phys. Rev. Lett. 99 055002). It is shown in the present work that the surface part of this current located at the island separatrix can drive a pair of counter-propagating, tearing-parity, beta-induced Alfvén eigenmodes, which have the same helicity as that of the magnetic island and form a standing wave in the island frame. These Alfvénic modes can accompany tearing activity in tokamak discharges without energetic particles.

      • Generation of geodesic acoustic mode by nonlinear coupling of magnetic island and island-driven beta-induced Alfvén eigenmode

        Marchenko, V S,Panwar, A,Reznik, S N,Ryu, C M IOP 2017 Plasma physics and controlled fusion Vol.59 No.9

In a recent work, we have shown that the plasma flow around the magnetic island can excite the beta-induced Alfvén eigenmode (BAE) (Marchenko et al 2016 Nucl. Fusion 56 106021). In the present communication, it is shown that coupling of this primary BAE and magnetic island generates secondary geodesic acoustic mode (GAM), which has the frequency and mode structure identical to those of the primary BAE. The fixed GAM/BAE amplitude ratio, determined by the plasma neutrality, is comparable with the plasma/magnetic pressure ratio. This nonlinear coupling can be responsible for axis-symmetric modes, which accompany island-driven Alfvénic modes observed on HL-2A tokamak (Chen et al 2013 Nucl. Fusion 53 113010).

      • Characteristics of a-GaN films and a-AlGaN/GaN heterojunctions prepared on r-sapphire by two-stage growth process

        Polyakov, A. Y.,Jang, Lee-Woon,Smirnov, N. B.,Govorkov, A. V.,Kozhukhova, E. A.,Yugova, T. G.,Reznik, V. Y.,Pearton, S. J.,Baik, Kwang Hyeon,Hwang, Sung-Min,Jung, Sukkoo,Lee, In-Hwan American Institute of Physics 2011 JOURNAL OF APPLIED PHYSICS - Vol.110 No.9

The electrical properties, presence of deep electron and hole traps and photoluminescence spectra were measured for undoped a-GaN films grown by metal-organic chemical vapor deposition (MOCVD) in a two-stage process using a high V/III ratio at the first stage and low V/III ratio at the second stage. Growth was performed on r-sapphire substrates with a high temperature GaN nucleation layer. The films showed a full width at half maximum of 450-470 arcseconds for the (11-20) x-ray rocking curve with little anisotropy with respect to the sample rotation around the growth direction. The stacking fault (SF) density determined by selective etching was similar to 5 x 10(4) cm(-1). The residual donor concentration was 10(14)-10(15) cm(-3), with a very low density (2.5 x 10(13) cm(-3)) of electron traps located at E-c - 0.6 eV, which are believed to be one of the major non-radiative recombination centers in nonpolar GaN. Consequently, the films showed a high intensity of bandedge luminescence with negligible contribution from defect bands associated with SFs. In contrast to previously studied nonpolar GaN films, the a-GaN layers showed a high concentration of gallium-vacancy-related acceptors near E-v + 1 eV and a strong yellow luminescence band, both indicating that growth conditions were effectively N-rich. a-AlGaN/GaN heterojunctions with thin heavily Si doped AlGaN barriers made on a-GaN substrates showed two-dimensional electron gas (2DEG) concentrations of 1.2 x 10(13) cm(-3), with 2DEG mobility of 80 cm(2)/Vs. Capacitance-voltage profiling of Schottky diodes on these HJs suggest that the 2DEG is fully depleted by the built-in voltage of the Schottky diode. (C)2011 American Institute of Physics. Trends in Venous Thromboembolism Readmission Rates after Ischemic Stroke and Intracerebral Hemorrhage

        Liqi Shu,Adam de Havenon,Ava L. Liberman,Nils Henninger,Eric Goldstein,Michael E. Reznik,Ali Mahta,Fawaz Al-Mufti,Jennifer Frontera,Karen Furie,Shadi Yaghi 대한뇌졸중학회 2023 Journal of stroke Vol.25 No.1

Background and Purpose Venous thromboembolism (VTE) is a life-threatening complication of stroke. We evaluated nationwide rates and risk factors for hospital readmissions with VTE after an intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) or acute ischemic stroke (AIS) hospitalization. Methods Using the Healthcare Cost and Utilization Project (HCUP) Nationwide Readmission Database, we included patients with a principal discharge diagnosis of ICH or AIS from 2016 to 2019. Patients who had VTE diagnosis or history of VTE during the index admission were excluded. We performed Cox regression models to determine factors associated with VTE readmission, compared rates between AIS and ICH and developed post-stroke VTE risk score. We estimated VTE readmission rates per day over a 90-day time window post-discharge using linear splines. Results Of the total 1,459,865 patients with stroke, readmission with VTE as the principal diagnosis within 90 days occurred in 0.26% (3,407/1,330,584) AIS and 0.65% (843/129,281) ICH patients. The rate of VTE readmission decreased within first 4–6 weeks (P<0.001). In AIS, cancer, obesity, higher National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) score, longer hospital stay, home or rehabilitation disposition, and absence of atrial fibrillation were associated with VTE readmission. In ICH, longer hospital stay and rehabilitation disposition were associated with VTE readmission. The VTE rate was higher in ICH compared to AIS (adjusted hazard ratio 2.86, 95% confidence interval 1.93–4.25, P<0.001). Conclusions After stroke, VTE readmission risk is highest within the first 4–6 weeks and nearly three-fold higher after ICH vs. AIS. VTE risk is linked to decreased mobility and hypercoagulability. Studies are needed to test short-term VTE prophylaxis beyond hospitalization in high-risk patients.

      • Electronic Raman scattering in cuprate superconductors and parent insulating phases

        Klein, M.V.,Salamon, D.,Blumberg, G.,Cooper, S.L.,Ginsberg, D.M.,Liu, R.,Reznik, D.,Lee, W.C. 숙명여자대학교 자연과학연구소 1994 자연과학논문집 Vol.- No.5

Raman scattering from charge and spin excitations in cuprates is reviewed. The two-magnon resonance Raman profile is used to determine the most probable energy for photon-assisted charge transfer leading to exchange between two spins. The difference between this energy and that for absorption is attributed to spin relaxation (spin polaron) effects. Two-magnon spectra in superconducting cuprates are presented. It is argued that their presence is evidence that the antiferromagnetic correlation length is equal to or greater than three lattice constants. The recently-discovered Raman-active excitons are described and possible assignments of them are discussed. It is pointed out that in highly correlated metals and insulators, the mechanisms for light scattering that are familiar for doped semiconductors or conventional metals are not necessarily the only ones that are operative.
