Modulation of signal transduction pathways by natural compounds in cancer
Ranjan, A.,Fofaria, N.M.,Kim, S.H.,Srivastava, S.K. Elsevier 2015 Chinese journal of natural medicines Vol.13 No.10
Cancer is generally regarded as the result of abnormal growth of cells. According to World Health Organization, cancer is the leading cause of mortality worldwide. Mother nature provides a large source of bioactive compounds with excellent therapeutic efficacy. Numerous phytochemicals from nature have been investigated for anticancer properties. In this review article, we discuss several natural compounds, which have shown anti-cancer activity. Natural compounds induce cell cycle arrest, activate intrinsic and extrinsic apoptosis pathways, generate Reactive Oxygen Species (ROS), and down-regulate activated signaling pathways, resulting in inhibition of cell proliferation, progression and metastasis of cancer. Several preclinical studies have suggested that natural compounds can also increase the sensitivity of resistant cancers to available chemotherapy agents. Furthermore, combining FDA approved anti-cancer drugs with natural compounds results in improved efficacy. On the basis of these exciting outcomes of natural compounds against several cancer types, several agents have already advanced to clinical trials. In conclusion, preclinical results and clinical outcomes against cancer suggest promising anticancer efficacy of agents from natural sources.
Microsurgical Approach for Root Coverage of Receding Gingiva in the Esthetic Zone
Mohan, Ranjana,Jain, Rohit The Korean Society for Microsurgery 2013 Archives of reconstructive microsurgery Vol.22 No.2
Facial esthetics and smiling are key components in nonverbal communication and have an important role in determination of the first impression of a person. The various components of the smile in dental esthetics include Gingival scaffold, lip framework, and Teeth. The periodontist creates a smile by performing various periodontal plastic microsurgery procedures for management of mucogingival problems. A 25-year-old patient reported to the Department of Periodontology at Teerthanker Mahaveer Dental College and Research Center, Moradabad, Northern India, with the chief complaint of long looking teeth in the upper jaw, making him conscious while smiling. Miller class I gingival recession with Maxillary left canine (23) was diagnosed. Periodontal plastic microsurgery employing double papilla grafting with connective tissue graft harvested from the palate in order to cover denuded root was performed using microsurgical instruments and microsuturing with 6-0 suturing material under magnification. Healing was uneventful, with achievement of 100% root coverage of denuded root after three months. The patient was highly impressed and satisfied with his enhanced smile.

<P><named-content content-type='genus-species' xlink:type='simple'>Pseudomonas mendocina</named-content> was found to produce a unique homopolymer of poly(3-hydroxyoctanoate), P(3HO), rather than a copolymer, when grown on sodium octanoate as the sole carbon source. Although this polymer has been produced by other organisms, interestingly this is the first time an absolute homopolymer has been produced by a wild type organism. In addition, a detailed study on the effects of different extraction methods on the yield, molecular weight, thermal properties, and lipopolysaccharide content of P(3HO) has been carried out. The organism was able to accumulate P(3HO) up to 31.38% of its dry cell weight within 48 h in mineral salt medium. Characterization of the monomer was carried out using FTIR, GC-MS, 13C, 1H, and HSQC NMR spectroscopy. The polymer had a crystallinity of 37.5%, Young’s modulus value of 11.6 MPa and contact angle of 77.3°. Microstructural studies of solvent cast polymer films revealed a smooth surface topography with a root-mean-square roughness value of 0.238 μm.</P><P><B>Graphic Abstract</B> <IMG SRC='http://pubs.acs.org/appl/literatum/publisher/achs/journals/content/bomaf6/2011/bomaf6.2011.12.issue-6/bm2001999/production/images/medium/bm-2011-001999_0007.gif'></P><P><A href='http://pubs.acs.org/doi/suppl/10.1021/bm2001999'>ACS Electronic Supporting Info</A></P>
The Performance Analysis of CPU scheduling Algorithms in Operating Systems
Thangakumar Jeyaprakash,Ranjana P,Sambath M International Journal of Computer ScienceNetwork S 2023 International journal of computer science and netw Vol.23 No.7
Scheduling algorithms plays a significant role in optimizing the CPU in operating system. Each scheduling algorithms schedules the processes in the ready queue with its own algorithm design and its properties. In this paper, the performance analysis of First come First serve scheduling, Non preemptive scheduling, Preemptive scheduling, Shortest Job scheduling and Round Robin algorithm has been discussed with an example and the results has been analyzed with the performance parameters such as minimum waiting time, minimum turnaround time and Response time.
Pruritic Urticarial Papules and Plaques of Pregnancy Managed with Ayurveda: A Case Report
Rastogi, Sanjeev,Rastogi, Ranjana Cellmed Orthocellular Medicine and Pharmaceutical 2019 셀메드 (CellMed) Vol.9 No.2
Pruritic urticarial papules and plaque of pregnancy presents with difficulty in its management owing to the limited intervention options available during pregnancy and their sub optimal responses. In pregnancy, also often the mother remains reluctant in getting exposed to biological medicines for her concern to the growing fetus. In such conditions, Ayurveda, the traditional health care system from India is often looked as a safe alternative to offer symptom resolution and safe continuation of pregnancy without the discomforts of urticaria. This case report is an illustration in this regard.
Case Report : Full term broad ligament pregnancy through a Cesarean scar
( Samar Rudra ),( Suhasini Gupta ),( Bal Krishan Taneja ),( Ranjana Gupta ) 대한산부인과학회 2013 Obstetrics & Gynecology Science Vol.56 No.6
A broad ligament pregnancy is an extremely rare condition. Diagnosis is often missed and finally made during laparotomy. We present a case which remained undiagnosed throughout her pregnancy till she reached term and unfortunately had intrauterine foetal demise when she reported to our hospital. On clinical suspicion, ultrasound and magnetic resonance imaging evaluation was done which picked up the diagnosis of abdominal pregnancy. On laparotomy a broad ligament pregnancy was found with a rent in the previous Cesarean scar towards the gestational sac in the broad ligament.

Purpose: Oxidative stress and angiogenesis are important elements in the pathogenesis of inflammatory diseases and cancer. Vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) is one of the most potent angiogenic cytokines and is up-regulated by conditions associated with the generation of free radicals and reactive oxygen intermediates. In this study, we investigated the association between oxidative stress and serum VEGF status in patients with breast cancer. Methods: Forty patients with breast carcinoma, of which 21 were stage II and 19 were stage III, along with 40 ageand gender-matched healthy controls were enrolled. Oxidative stress, total antioxidant status, and VEGF levels in serum were evaluated by spectrophotometric procedures. Malondialdehyde (MDA) levels were measured and antioxidant status was assessed by measuring total antioxidant status (TAS) to assess oxidative damage. Results: VEGF and MDA levels were significantly higher in patients with breast cancer than those of controls (p<0.005). Total antioxidant level decreased significantly in patients compared to that in controls. MDA, TAS, and VEGF levels were also analyzed based on menopausal status and different clinical disease stages. MDA and TAS level significantly different in the postmenopausal group than the premenopausal group, whereas VEGF level remained unchanged. Conclusion: Increased VEGF level and its positive correlation with oxidative stress level and decreased antioxidant status suggest a link between oxidative stress and malignant transformation.
