Ownership Structure and Dividend Policy of Vietnamese Enterprises after the Global Financial Crisis
Pham,Quoc Viet,Luong,Quoc Trong Vinh,Tran,Bao Vy 한국유통과학회 2019 KODISA ICBE (International Conference on Business Vol.2019 No.-
The paper examines the impact of ownership structure on the dividend policy of listed companies in the Vietnam stock market after the global financial crisis. The sample uses panel data including 91 corporates listed on the Ho Chi Minh City Stock Exchange (HOSE) for 2009-2015. The results of the study show that public ownership and domestic private ownership are positive correlated with dividend payout ratio, while the effect of foreign ownership on dividend policy is not significant. This result could provide an important implication on the orientation of restructuring state-owned enterprises and attracting foreign investment in Vietnam stock market in the future.
Globally Optimal Solutions for Cross-Layer Design in Fast-Fading Lossy Delay-Constrained MANETs
Pham, Quoc-Viet,Kim, Hoon,Hwang, Won-Joo Korea Multimedia Society 2015 멀티미디어학회논문지 Vol.18 No.2
To increase the overall utility and decrease the link delay and power consumption, a joint optimal cross-layer design of congestion control at the transport layer, link delay at the data link layer and power allocation at the physical layer for mobile ad hoc networks is considered in this paper. As opposed to previous work, the rate outage probability in this work is based on exactly closed-form; therefore, the proposed method can guarantee the globally optimal solutions to the underlying problem. The non-convex formulated problem is transformed into a convex one, which is solved by exploiting the duality technique. Finally, simulation results verify that our proposal achieves considerable benefits over the existing method.

Internationalization of multinational companies in the globalized context is a popular topic in the academic world and it is also a strong concern of CEO/managers. However, this topic has not been well discussed in the academic community in Vietnam that can be contextualized in the typical transition economy. This paper is designed to explore critical success factors (CSF) of internationalization of large Vietnamese companies that have contributed major revenue from the international market. Through interviews with CEO/managers of successful companies geared toward world markets, the CSFs of internationalization have been identified and categorized into groups in which each CSF has interaction with each other, and together have combined impacts on the success of internationalization. The research results provide a conceptual framework to analyze factors affecting internationalization of large Vietnamese companies. Thank to this conceptual framework, further exploratory and/or confirmatory research can be developed to locate more success factors of internationalization. In addition, some particularly critical factors of internationalization success of Vietnamese companies are found to be useful to both CEO/ managers and policymakers. CEO/managers can benefit from the research results by concentrate their limited efforts/resources in managing these CSFs, and policymaker may design CSF-based policies to boost the internationalization of domestic companies.

The study aims to contribute to the improvement of project management in Vietnam. It focuses on developing new critical success factors (CSFs) which can be used to assess the success of project management in the country. This is a promising issue considering the rapid changes occurring within the business environment. The reason is because CSFs carry great consequences on project management issues, particularly in the context of Vietnam, which is currently experiencing many big scale projects involving both local and foreign investors. Two applications are utilised. One is to adapt the business model of Belassi and Tukel (1996) to observe the transitional and emerging economy of Vietnam. The other is to examine the data collected from a survey to examine the new CSFs which can then be used to assess the success of its projects and project management in Vietnam. The research results showed some remarkable differences between CSFs of Vietnam and foreign countries in both number of success factors and its impact levels which should be paid attention by foreign project managers/owners when doing investment and project management in Vietnam. The outcome generated can be useful to project owners/managers as well as policy makers in Vietnam’s business environment.
Resource Allocation for Heterogeneous Traffic in Complex Communication Networks
Pham, Quoc-Viet,Hwang, Won-Joo IEEE 2016 IEEE TRANSACTIONS ON CIRCUITS AND SYSTEMS PART 2 E Vol.63 No.10

This brief introduces an optimal resource allocation scheme for heterogeneous traffic in communication networks with the viewpoint of complex system networks. Since both the transmission flow rate and processing capability distribution can affect the traffic performance, we formulate an optimization problem with the main goal of maximizing the network utility, subject to constraints on the node congestion and total processing capability. The nonconvex formulated problem is transformed and approximated into a sequence of convex optimization problems, based on which we design an iterative algorithm with the convergence guarantee. Extensive numerical results are provided to solidify the outperformance of the proposed procedure in comparison with existing frameworks.

Fairness-Aware Spectral and Energy Efficiency in Spectrum-Sharing Wireless Networks
Pham, Quoc-Viet,Hwang, Won-Joo IEEE 2017 IEEE Transactions on Vehicular Technology VT Vol.66 No.11

This paper introduces a fair and energy-efficient resource allocation framework in spectrum-sharing wireless networks with quality-of-service guarantees. Consider the tradeoff between energy efficiency and spectral efficiency, the multi-objective problem of spectral efficiency and energy efficiency is transformed into a problem that minimizes the total power consumption and maximizes the achievable utility, subject to power constraints and rate outage probability constraints. We then analyze the complexity of the considered problem; particularly, the optimization problem is NP-Hard when 0 < alpha < 1 and alpha = 0 and is convex for other values of the fairness index a. After that, we adopt the successive convex approximation (SCA) approach to approximate and transform the NP-hard nonconvex optimization problem into a sequence of convex programs and propose two iterative SCA-based resource allocation algorithms. Extensive simulation results are presented to demonstrate the effectiveness and outperformance of the proposed algorithms over existing frameworks.

Ballbots, which have been studied for over ten years, are under-actuated mobile robots that operate using the inverted pendulum paradigm. Controlling a ballbot poses a number of challenges, including maintaining the stable upright posture from the ground in all directions and making sure it follows the desired trajectory. External factors such as a minor change in contact surface properties or fabrication errors can affect the system's stabilization and transfer capabilities. In this study, an adaptive hierarchical sliding mode control algorithm based on an artificial neural network is developed to make the ballbot robust to external factors. The use of the proposed controller ensures system stability despite uncertainties including friction, accidental centrifugal forces and gravity that occur when the ballbot follows the reference trajectory. The system stability is guaranteed on the basis of Lyapunov theory. Control efficiency and robot stability under system uncertainties are demonstrated by numerical simulation.

This paper investigates the determinants of credit accessibility and the effect of credit on the income of farm households borrowing from Vietnam Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development, Giong Rieng District Branch, Kien Giang Province. Based on the primary data of 200 farming households who are the customer of the bank, the study applied the Probit regression model to examine determinant factors of credit accessibility of farm households and employed the Propensity score matching method to investigate the impact of credit on households’ income. The findings of the Probit regression shown that three independent variables that significantly influence the access to credit of households are household size, income source, and farm size. Besides that, the Propensity score matching method results showed a difference of 23.799 million VND/year between the income of borrowing households and that of non-borrowing households at the significance level of 1%. The difference in the imcome from the interval and central matching methods are VND 24.700 million VND/year and VND 24.633 million VND/year, respectively. Given empirical findings suggetsted that several recommendations to increase the credit accessibility of farm households, thereby creating favorable conditions for improving their income.
