        MicroRNA-130a Increases and Predicts Cardiotoxicity during Adjuvant Chemotherapy in Human Epidermal Growth Factor Receptor-2-Positive Breast Cancer

        Purpose: This study aimed to investigate the changes in microRNA-130a (miR-130a) and its correlation with cardiotoxicity during epirubicin/cyclophosphamide followed by docetaxel plus trastuzumab (EC-D+T) adjuvant chemotherapy in human epidermal growth factor receptor-2-positive (HER2+ ) breast cancer patients. Methods: A total of 72 HER2+ breast cancer patients who underwent resection and were scheduled to receive EC-D+T adjuvant therapy were consecutively enrolled. The expression of miR-130a and cardiotoxicity (defined as any of the following situations: 1) absolute decline of left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) ≥ 10% and LVEF < 53%; 2) heart failure; 3) acute coronary artery syndromes; and 4) fatal arrhythmia) were assessed every 3 months throughout the 15-month EC-D+T treatment. Results: The accumulating cardiotoxicity rate was 12 (16.7%), of which the incidence of heart failure, acute coronary syndrome, life-threatening arrhythmias, ΔLVEF ≥ 10%, and LVEF < 53% was 0 (0.0%), 1 (1.4%), 0 (0.0%), and 12 (16.7%), respectively. Baseline miR-130a expression was negatively correlated with LVEF (%) and positively correlated with cardiac troponin I. The expression of miR-130a gradually increased in both cardiotoxicity and noncardiotoxicity patients during EC-D+T treatment, while the increment of miR-130a was more obvious in cardiotoxicity patients compared with non-cardiotoxicity patients. Further logistic regression and receiver operating characteristic curve analysis indicated that miR-130a was an independent predictive factor for increased cardiotoxicity risk. Conclusion: MiR-130a increases constantly and predicts high cardiotoxicity risk during ECD+T adjuvant chemotherapy in HER2+ breast cancer patients.

        A novel active disturbance rejection-based control strategy for a gun control system

        To compensate for the nonlinearity and to achieve finely-tuned tracking accuracy of a gun control system driven by an AC machine,an improved active disturbance rejection control (IADRC) strategy with neural network embedding (NN-IADRC) is developed in this paper. The proposed IADRC, which has amnestic memory effects, can be regarded as an extension of the conventional ADRC (CADRC),making it a special case of the IADRC. To further attenuate the dependence on system models and enhance the disturbance rejection capacities of the IADRC strategy, an on-line NN-based optimum updating approach is also developed in this paper. Finally, a series of experiments are conducted on the semi-physical simulation platform to estimate the performance of the control system and the effects of the memory factor on the system. The experimental results confirm that the proposed NN-IADRC is highly robust. The results also confirm that it performs more excellently than the CADRC and that its fine tuning has attained tracking accuracy.

      • Research on the Group-type of High Voltage Electric Field Measurement Safety Distance Caution Apparatus

        This paper introduces a kind of research and application of group-type of high voltage electric field measurement and safety distance caution apparatus based on wireless communication technology, the group-type caution apparatus is combined with a master and multiple slaves, in which the slaves are used to measure electric field and the master is used to monitor the slaves. The master keeps the real-time wireless communication with the slaves, realizing the safety dual monitoring of the high voltage working environment and guaranteeing the personnel safety of live working man. Conduct a working performance test on the site of Chongqing Rongchang 500kV Hongban transmission line I about the stability and accuracy. The test results show that the designer of group-type of HV electric field measurement and safety distance caution apparatus can work stably in the strong electric field environment, besides, it has a good performance in both safety distance exceeding alarm and wireless communication.

        Identification and expression specificity of chemosensory genes in the male reproductive system of Spodoptera exigua

        Some chemosensory genes are found to be expressed specifically or highly in the male reproductive system, suggesting their importance in male reproductive physiology. In this paper, we identified chemosensory genes expressed in the male reproductive system of the moth pest Spodoptera exigua by transcriptome and proteome sequencing, and further determined expression patterns of these genes regarding antennae and different tissues of the male reproductive system (testes, vas deferens, seminal vesicles, ejaculatory ducts, male accessory glands) by the real-time quantitative PCR (qPCR). Transcriptome analysis showed that 46 chemosensory genes were expressed in the male reproductive system of S. exigua, including 18 odorant binding proteins (OBPs), 12 che mosensory proteins (CSPs), 10 odorant receptors (ORs) and 6 other chemosensory genes. Further qPCR mea surements revealed that 14 chemosensory genes were expressed specifically or highly in the male reproductive tissues, relative to that in male antennae. Of the 14 genes, OBP17, OBP22, OBP27 and GR43 were specifically expressed in the testes; OBP20 was specifically expressed in the vas deferens; and PBP4 was specifically expressed in the male accessory glands. In addition, proteome data of the spermatophore confirmed that at least 4 OBPs and one CSP were transmitted from males to females, suggesting their function in the reproductive physiology of mated females. The results provide insights into the functional diversity of chemosensory genes, and bases for exploring functions of these chemosensory genes in male reproductive physiology.

        Monthly distribution of ammonia-oxidizing microbes in a tropical bay

        Ammonia oxidation, performed by ammonia-oxidizing archaea (AOA) and bacteria (AOB), plays a critical role in the cycle of nitrogen in the ocean. For now, environmental variables controlling distribution of ammonia-oxidizing microbes are still largely unknown in oceanic environments. In this study, we used real-time quantitative PCR and high-throughput sequencing methods to investigate the abundance and diversity of AOA and AOB from sediment and water in Zhanjiang Bay. Phylogenic analysis revealed that the majority of AOA amoA sequences in water and sediment were affiliated with the genus Nitrosopumilus, whereas the Nitrosotalea cluster was only detected with low abundance in water. Nitrosomonas and Nitrosospira dominated AOB amoA sequences in water and sediment, respectively. The amoA copy numbers of both AOA and AOB varied significantly with month for both sediment and water. When water and sediment temperature dropped to 17– 20°C in December and February, respectively, the copy number of AOB amoA genes increased markedly and was much higher than for AOA amoA genes. Also, AOA abundance in water peaked in December when water temperature was lowest (17–20°C). Stepwise multiple regression analyses revealed that temperature was the most key factor driving monthly changes of AOA or AOB abundance. It is inferred that low water temperature may inhibit growth of phytoplankton and other microbes and so reduce competition for a common substrate, ammonium.

        Post-buckling behaviours of axially restrained steel columns in fire

        This paper presents a simplified model to study post-buckling behaviours of the axially restrained steel column at elevated temperatures in fire. The contribution of axial deformation to the curvature of column section is included in theoretical equations. The possible unloading at the convex side of the column when buckling occurs is considered in the stress-strain relationship of steel at elevated temperatures. Parameters that affect structural behaviours of the axial restrained column in fire are studied. The axial restraint cause an increase in the axial force before the column buckles; the buckling emperature of restrained columns will be lower than non-restrained steel columns. However, the axial force of a restrained column decreases after the column buckles with the elevation of temperatures, so make use of the post-buckling behaviour can increase the critical temperature of restrained columns. Columns with temperature gradient across the section will produce lower axial force at elevated temperatures.

        Noninvasive monitoring of mouse renal allograft rejection using micro-CT

        Purpose: Acute renal graft rejection can only be definitively diagnosed by renal biopsy. However, biopsies carry a risk of renal transplant injury and loss. Micro-CT is widely used in preclinical studies of small animals. Here, we propose micro-CT could noninvasively monitor and evaluate renal location and function in a mouse kidney transplant model. Methods: Orthotopic kidney transplantation was performed in a BALB/c -to- C57BL/6j or C57BL/6j-to- C57BL/6j mouse model. After optimizing imaging techniques, five mice were imaged with micro-CT and the findings were verified histologically. Results: Micro-CT can monitor and evaluate renal location and function after orthotopic kidney transplantation. There were no mice deaths while renal transplants were failure. Conclusion: We propose that graft micro-CT imaging is a new option that is noninvasive and specific, and can aid in early detection and follow-up of acute renal rejection. This method is potentially useful to improve posttransplant rejection monitoring.

        $C^*$-algebra of local conjugacy equivalence relation on strongly irreducible subshift of finite type

        Let $G$ be an infinite countable group and $A$ be a finite set. If $ \Sigma \subseteq A^{G}$ is a strongly irreducible subshift of finite type and $\mathcal{G}$ is the local conjugacy equivalence relation on $ \Sigma$. We construct a decreasing sequence $\mathcal{R}$ of unital $C^*$-subalgebras of $C(\Sigma)$ and a sequence of faithful conditional expectations $\mathcal{E}$ defined on $C(\Sigma)$, and obtain a Toeplitz algebra $\mathcal{T}(\mathcal{R},\mathcal{E})$ and a $C^*$-algebra $C^*(\mathcal{R},\mathcal{E})$ for the pair $(\mathcal{R},\mathcal{E})$. We show that $C^*(\mathcal{R},\mathcal{E})$ is $\ast$-isomorphic to the reduced groupoid $C^*$-algebra $C_r^*(\mathcal{G})$.

        Effect of cadmium exposure on antioxidant enzyme catalase in different tissues of Acrossocheilus fasciatus

        Catalase (CAT) is an essential antioxidant in organisms, its can eliminate hydrogen peroxides produced in the cellular environment. Previous studies have focused mainly on the functions of CAT by pathogen challenge, but the functions of CAT by metals stress remain unclear. In order to investigate the function of CAT in Acrossocheilus fasciatus (AfCat), we cloned CAT complete cDNA sequences and analyzed its functions by cadmium (Cd) stress. qPCR analysis illustrated that the expression of CAT changed rapidly and dynamically in response to Cd from 0.05 mg L-1 to 1.25 mg L-1. Enzyme activity assay result showed that CAT activity was up-regulated significantly in response to Cd from 0.05 mg L-1 to 1.25 mg L-1. Histochemistry analysis showed that the structure of liver, testis and kidney were severely damaged by exposed to Cd of 1.25 mg L-1. Collectively, the results of our study indicate that AfCat may play an indispensable role in maintaining redox balance under Cd exposure, but AfCat expression will be inhibited when Cd accumulation reaches to the critical concentration. This study will illuminate the potential functions of AfCat in the defense mechanisms of reproductive and metabolic systems under Cd exposure in A. fasciatus.
