POINT TRANSVERSALS TO TRANSLATES OF A TRAPEZOID

Yuan, Li-Ping,Ren, Ren 한국전산응용수학회 2004 Journal of applied mathematics & informatics Vol.15 No.1

An m-transversal to a family of convex sets in the plane is an m-point set which intersects every members of the family. One of Grubaum's conjectures says that a planar family of translates of a convex compact set has a 3-transversal provided that any two of its members intersect. Recently the conjecture has been proved affirmatively (see [4]). In the present paper we provide a different and straightforward proof for the conjecture for the family of translates of a closed trapezoid in the plane and give several concrete 3-transversals.

Mapping QTLs for Grain Quality Using an Introgression Line Population from a Cross between Oryza sativa and O. rufipogon

        Ping-Rong Yuan,Shi-Dong Ji,안상낙,김현정,Qiong-Hua Chen,Hong-Guang Ju 한국작물학회 2010 Journal of crop science and biotechnology Vol.13 No.4

Quantitative trait loci (QTL) associated with four milling recovery properties, two chemical properties, six paste properties of grain, and six textural parameters of cooked rice were identified using an introgression line (IL) population of rice developed from an interspecific cross over two years. The IL population consisted of 121 lines from a cross between wild rice (O. rufipogon Griff.) and a japonica cultivar. A total of 28 QTLs were identified for the 14 traits using inter mapping. Of these, 10 were significant over two years indicating that these QTLs are stable across years and environments. For eight (21%) of the QTLs identified, the O. rufipogonderived alleles contributed a desirable effect on amylose content, protein content, minimum viscosity, final viscosity, and consistency. Among these, pc3 for protein content and ac7 for amylose content were significant in both years and showed an R² value of 25.5and 30.9%, respectively. The markers closely associated with these useful alleles can be used to trace the inheritance of specific chromosome segments in the IL population and also offer a starting point for map-based cloning of genes underlying these traits.

Semi-passive piezoelectric structural damping based on a pulse-width modulation switching circuit

Yuan-Ping Liu,Dejan Vasic 대한기계학회 2013 JOURNAL OF MECHANICAL SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY Vol.27 No.12

Studies in the past focused on the implementation of semi-passive damping techniques that could significantly reduce structural vibration. Recently, the performances of these damping techniques have been enhanced by artificially increasing the voltage amplitude delivered by the piezoelectric patches with an external voltage source. To maintain the stability of this damping method, an adaptive voltage source must be used. To satisfy this requirement, this study proposes an enhanced semi-passive damping technique based on pulse-width modulation. The proposed method allows the waveform of the piezoelectric voltage to adapt to the vibration velocity. Thus, this method can maintain its stability with a constant voltage source and simultaneously exhibit superior performance. This study consists of a theoretical part and an experimental proof-of-concept demonstration of the proposed damping technique.

A Smart Manufacturing Solution for Multi-Axis Dispenser Motion Planning in Mixed Production of Shoe Soles

        Yuan-Ping Luh,Liao-Chuan Huang,Hao-Jan Lu,Chih-Hsing Chu 한국정밀공학회 2020 International Journal of Precision Engineering and Vol.7 No.3

Mixed production is a practical solution to realize the idea of mass product customization. The production system needs to adapt to raw materials of product variants appearing in the production line, and thus to properly complete the manufacturing task. Such system autonomy is a core competence in smart manufacturing. This paper presents a smart manufacturing solutionfor shoe sole gluing in mixed production environment. The solution automatically guides a 5-axis CNC dispensing machine to perform the gluing task of a sole randomly placed on the worktable without use of fi xturing. A single RGB-D camera is used to capture the color and depth data of the work environment. A two-stage algorithm is implemented to provide the intelligence required by the solution using the captured data as input. The LINEMOD method fi rst determines a rough pose from training data of all shoe soles at pre-defi ned orientations. A trimmed interactive closest point (ICP) method then refi nes the pose using the rough one as the initial solution. Pre-determined working paths are transformed into the correct location around the sole with the refi ned pose. The corresponding motion commands drive the dispenser controller to complete the gluing task without collision. Test results of real shoe soles validate the eff ectiveness of the proposed solution. This work contributes to smart manufacturing in the shoe making industry, which has been less studied in the past.

A Robust Adaptive Controller for Hammerstein Nonlinear Systems

        Ping Yuan,Bi Zhang,Zhi-Zhong Mao 제어·로봇·시스템학회 2017 International Journal of Control, Automation, and Vol.15 No.2

Hammerstein nonlinear systems have appeared useful in modeling nonlinear processes encountered inengineering practice. Control algorithms may lead to unsatisfactory performance if the parametric model doesnot agree with the plant. To this end, this paper proposes a new robust adaptive control approach for discretetimeHammerstein nonlinear systems which are more close to some industrial plants. The adaptive control law andrecursive parameter estimation are updated by introducing the estimate of the model error as a feedback. Theoreticalresults show that parameter estimation convergence and closed-loop system stability can be guaranteed under mildconditions. Simulation examples including a continuous stirred tank reactor (CSTR) system are given to show theeffectiveness of the obtained results.

      • Structural instantaneous frequency extraction based on improved multi-synchrosqueezing generalized S-transform

        Ping-Ping Yuan,Xue-Li Cheng,Hang-Hang Wang,Jian Zhang,Zhong-Xiang Shen,Wei-Xin Ren 국제구조공학회 2021 Smart Structures and Systems, An International Jou Vol.28 No.5

A new method is proposed to improve the accuracy of structural instantaneous frequency (IF) extraction. The proposed method combines a new form of improved generalized S-transform (IGST) and a multi-synchrosqueezing operation. The parameters selection of the window function in IGST is derived through the concentration measure (CM) principle. Then, the multi-synchrosqueezing algorithm is employed to improve energy aggregation of time-frequency analysis (TFA). To verify the effectiveness and accuracy of the proposed improved multi-synchrosqueezing generalized S-transform (IMSSGST), a frequency-modulated multi-component signal is investigated. For structural IF extraction, a two-story shear frame and a threestory steel frame structure are introduced. Furthermore, the IF identification of a seven-story RC shear wall structure is conducted to verified the practicability in actual engineering. Numerical simulation and experimental results show that the proposed method can effectively improve the energy aggregation of TFA and effectively improve the accuracy of IF identification.

      • Phase II Clinical Study on the GEMOX Regimen as Second-line Therapy for Advanced Ovarian Cancer

        Yuan, Shao-Fei,Zhang, Lian-Ping,Zhu, Lin-Jia,Chen, Wen-Jun,Zheng, Wei-E,Xiong, Jian-Ping Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2013 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.14 No.6

Aim: To investigate the effectiveness and adverse effects of gemcitabine by fixed-dose rate infusion plus oxaliplatin (GEMOX regimen) as second-line therapy for advanced ovarian cancer. Methods: 64 patients with advanced ovarian cancer were divided into an experimental group (44 cases) and a control group (20 cases). The experimental group was treated with continuous intravenous infusion of gemcitabine at 1000 $mg/m^2$ with a fixed-dose rate of 10 $mg/m^2/min$, on days 1 and 8 and oxaliplatin at 100 $mg/m^2$ on day 1, IVGTT, repeated every 3 weeks. The control group was treated with intravenous infusion of gemcitabine at 1000 $mg/m^2$ within 30 min on days 1 and and oxaliplatin at 100 $mg/m^2$ on day 1, IVGTT, again repeated every 3 weeks. CT scans or MRI were used for review every 1-2 cycles. Results: The effective rate in the experimental group was significantly high than control group (43.2% vs 35.0%; P < 0.05), with no obvious difference of hematologic or non-hematologic toxicity between the two groups (P > 0.05). Conclusion: GEMOX regimen is very effective to treat advanced ovarian cancer, with low toxicity, good tolerance and improved life quality in patients.

QTL Dissection of Agronomic and Domestication Traits Using Introgression Lines Carrying Wild Rice (Oryza rufipogon Griff.) Segments in Cultivated Rice (O. sativa L.) Background

        Yuan, Ping-Rong,Kim, Hyun-Jung,Chen, Qiong-Hua,Ju, Hong-Guang,Lee, Seung-Joon,Ji, Shi-Dong,Ahn, Sang-Nag 한국작물학회 2009 Journal of crop science and biotechnology Vol.12 No.4

The nearly isogenic nature of the introgression lines (ILs) provides a relative advantage over other segregating populations in the rapid implementation of pyramiding approach through crosses and marker analysis. A set of 126 ILs carrying various introgressed segments from a presumed wild progenitor, Oryza rufipogon Griff. Acc. W1944 in the background of an elite Korea japonica cultivar (O. sativa L.), Hwayeongbyeo, was constructed using the marker assisted selection (MAS) technique combined with repeated backcrosses. The 126 ILs have different W1944 segments on each chromosome, with 100% coverage of wild segments on chromosome 1, while for chromosome 10, the coverage was only 33.3%. The mean number of homozygous and heterozygous donor segments were 3 (ranging from 0 to 7) and 4.7 (ranging from 1 to 14.5), respectively, and 31.6% of introgressed segments had sizes of less than 10.5 cM. A total of 41 quantitative trait loci (QTLs) and two loci associated with pericarp coloration were identified. The number of QTLs per trait ranged from 2 to 6. Phenotypic variance associated with each QTL varied from 9.1 to 52.2%, with an average of 17.1%. For 11 (26.8%) of the QTLs detected in this study, the O. rufipogon-derived alleles contributed the desired agronomic effect despite the overall inferior characteristics of the wild phenotype. Favorable alleles from the O. rufipogon accession were identified for panicle number, panicle length, days to heading, secondary branches, spikelets per panicle, and 1,000-grain weight.

      • Novel and Effective Almagate Enema for Hemorrhagic Chronic Radiation Proctitis and Risk Factors for Fistula Development

        Yuan, Zi-Xu,Ma, Teng-Hui,Zhong, Qing-Hua,Wang, Huai-Ming,Yu, Xi-Hu,Qin, Qi-Yuan,Chu, Li-Li,Wang, Lei,Wang, Jian-Ping Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2016 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.17 No.2

Radiation proctitis is a common complication after radiotherapy for pelvic malignant tumors. This study was conducted to assess the efficacy of novel almagate enemas in hemorrhagic chronic radiation proctitis (CRP) and evaluate risk factors related to rectal deep ulcer or fistula secondary to CRP. All patients underwent a colonoscopy to confirm the diagnosis of CRP and symptoms were graded. Typical endoscopic and pathological images, risk factors, and quality of life were also recorded. A total of 59 patients were enrolled. Gynecological cancers composed 93.1% of the primary malignancies. Complete or obvious reduction of bleeding was observed in 90% (53/59) patients after almagate enema. The mean score of bleeding improved from 2.17 to 0.83 (P<0.001) after the enemas. The mean response time was 12 days. No adverse effects were found. Moreover, long-term successful rate in controlling bleeding was 69% and the quality of life was dramatically improved (P=0.001). The efficacy was equivalent to rectal sucralfate, but the almagate with its antacid properties acted more rapidly than sucralfate. Furthermore, we firstly found that moderate to severe anemia was the risk factor of CRP patients who developed rectal deep ulcer or fistulas (P= 0.015). We also found abnormal hyaline-like thick wall vessels, which revealed endarteritis obliterans and the fibrosis underlying this disease. These findings indicate that almagate enema is a novel effective, rapid and well-tolerated method for hemorrhagic CRP. Moderate to severe anemia is a risk factor for deep ulceration or fistula.
