      • Structural instantaneous frequency extraction based on improved multi-synchrosqueezing generalized S-transform

        A new method is proposed to improve the accuracy of structural instantaneous frequency (IF) extraction. The proposed method combines a new form of improved generalized S-transform (IGST) and a multi-synchrosqueezing operation. The parameters selection of the window function in IGST is derived through the concentration measure (CM) principle. Then, the multi-synchrosqueezing algorithm is employed to improve energy aggregation of time-frequency analysis (TFA). To verify the effectiveness and accuracy of the proposed improved multi-synchrosqueezing generalized S-transform (IMSSGST), a frequency-modulated multi-component signal is investigated. For structural IF extraction, a two-story shear frame and a threestory steel frame structure are introduced. Furthermore, the IF identification of a seven-story RC shear wall structure is conducted to verified the practicability in actual engineering. Numerical simulation and experimental results show that the proposed method can effectively improve the energy aggregation of TFA and effectively improve the accuracy of IF identification.

        A Generalized Markov Chain Model for IEEE 802.11 Distributed Coordination Function

        To improve the accuracy and enhance the applicability of existing models, this paper proposes a generalized Markov chain model for IEEE 802.11 Distributed Coordination Function (DCF) under the widely adopted assumption of ideal transmission channel. The IEEE 802.11 DCF is modeled by a two dimensional Markov chain, which takes into account unsaturated traffic, backoff freezing, retry limits, the difference between maximum retransmission count and maximum backoff exponent, and limited buffer size based on the M/G/1/K queuing model. We show that existing models can be treated as special cases of the proposed generalized model. Furthermore, simulation results validate the accuracy of the proposed model.

        Dynamics of Yeast-like Symbiote and its Relationship with the Virulence of Brown Planthopper, Nilaparvata lugens Stal, to Resistant Rice Varieties

        Abundance of the yeast-like symbiote (YLS) in brown planthopper (BPH), Nilaparvata lugens Stl, collected from rice fields in China and obtained from International Rice Research Institute (IRRI), was monitored. The role of YLS in nymph survival rate, development and adult reproduction, and activities of transaminases in BPH on different resistant rice varieties were examined. Also, the relationship between YLS and virulence shifts of BPH to resistant rice varieties was discussed. The results indicated that the virulence of BPH populations to resistant rice varieties was strongly related to the abundance of YLS in 5th instar nymphs and brachypterous females of BPH field populations at Nanning in South China and Hangzhou in East China, showing the more abundance of YLS in BPH, the higher virulence of BPH to resistant rice varieties, while no obvious differences in YLS abundance were monitored between three BPH biotypes. Numbers of YLS reduced significantly in female adult of BPH biotype 1 fed on resistant rice varieties IR26, Mudgo and ASD7, compared with that fed on susceptible rice variety TN1. The lowest YLS abundance of BPH from field population was found in 2nd generation successively fed on resistant varieties, and the number of YLS was resumed at 4th generation when the BPH has adapted the resistant varieties. The markedly lower nymphal survival rate, adult fecundity and activities of alanine and aspartic transminase, and significantly longer nymph duration in the three aposymbiotic biotypes than in the symbiotic ones were recorded on both susceptible and resistant rice varieties. However, the much greater differences between aposymbiotic and symbiotic BPH were found on the inadaptable resistant rice varieties than that on the fitness resistant rice varieties. Those results implied that YLS in BPH should play a crucial role in the virulent shift of BPH populations to resistant rice varieties.

      • A combined spline chirplet transform and local maximum synchrosqueezing technique for structural instantaneous frequency identification

        Spline chirplet transform and local maximum synchrosqueezing are introduced to present a novel structural instantaneous frequency (IF) identification method named local maximum synchrosqueezing spline chirplet transform (LMSSSCT). Namely spline chirplet transform (SCT), a transform is firstly introduced based on classic chirplet transform and spline interpolated kernel function. Applying SCT in association with local maximum synchrosqueezing, the LMSSSCT is then proposed. The index of accuracy and Rényi entropy show that LMSSSCT outperforms the other time-frequency analysis (TFA) methods in processing analytical signals, especially in the presence of noise. Numerical examples of a Duffing nonlinear system with single degree of freedom and a two-layer shear frame structure with time-varying stiffness are used to verify the effectiveness of structural IF identification. Moreover, a nonlinear supported beam structure test is conducted and the LMSSSCT is utilized for structural IF identification. Numerical simulation and experimental results demonstrate that the presented LMSSSCT can effectively identify the IFs of nonlinear structures and time-varying structures with good accuracy and stability.

      • Quantitative Assessment of the Diagnostic Role of CDH13 Promoter Methylation in Lung Cancer

        In order to explore the association between cadherin 13 (CDH13) gene promoter methylation and lung carcinoma (LC) risk, we carried out a meta-analysis with searching of PubMed, Web of Science. Ultimately, 17 articles were identified and analysised by STATA 12.0 software. Overall, we found a significant relationship between CDH13 promoter methylation and LC risk (odds ratio=6.98, 95% confidence interval: 4.21-11.56, p<0.001). Subgroup analyses further revealed that LC risk was increased for individuals carrying the methylated CDH13 compared with those with unmethylated CDH13. Hence, our study identified a strong association between CDH13 gene promoter methylation and LC and highlighted a promising potential for CDH13 methylation in LC risk prediction.

      • Spect-guidance to Reduce Radioactive Dose to Functioning Lung for Stage III Non-small Cell Lung Cancer

        Objective: To investigate the treatment effect of additional information obtained by single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) lung perfusion imaging (LPI) in the radiotherapy planning process for patients with stage III non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Methods: 39 patients with stage III NSCLC were enrolled. Gross tumor volume (GTV) was outlined by SPECT/CT images, SPECT-LPIs being used to define functional lung (FL) and non-functional lung (NFL) regions. Two sets of IMRT plans were designed to deliver 64Gy to PTV. One was a regular IMRT plan using CT images only (Plan 1), and the other was a corresponding IMRT plan using co-registered images (Plan 2). $FL_{Vx}$ (the % volume of functional lung receiving ${\geq}$x Gy) and $WL_{Vx}$ (% volume of whole lung to receive ${\geq}$x Gy) were compared by paired Student's t test. Kendalls correlation was used to analyze the factor (s) related with the FLV20 decrease. Results: Compared with plan 1, both $WL_{Vx}$ and $FL_{Vx}$ were decreased in plan 2. $WL_{V10}$, $WL_{V15}$, $WL_{V20}$, $WL_{V25}$, $WL_{V30}$ and $WL_{V35}$ decreased 9.7%, 13.8%, 17.2%, 12.9%, 9.8% and 9.8%, and $FL_{V10}$, $FL_{V15}$, $FL_{V20}$, $FL_{V25}$, $FL_{V30}$ and $FL_{V35}$ decreased 10.8%, 14.6%, 17.3%, 14.5%, 14.5% and 10.5%. $FL_{Vx}$ decreased significantly compared with $WL_{Vx}$. There were significant differences in $WL_{V10}$, $WL_{V15}$, $WL_{V20}$, $WL_{V25}$, $WL_{V3}$ and $FL_{V10}$, $FL_{V15}$, $FL_{V20}$, $FL_{V25}$, $FL_{V30}$ between plan 1 and plan 2 (P=0.002, 0.000, 0.000, 0.005, 0.027 and 0.002, 0.000, 0.000, 0.006, 0.010). According to Kendall correlation analysis, NFL had a negative relation with the percentage FLV20 decrease (r=-0.559, P<0.01), while the distance of PTV and NFL center had a significantly positive relation with the percentage of FLV20 decrease (r=0.768, P<0.01). Conclusion: Routine use of SPECT-LPI for patients undergoing radiotherapy planning for stage III NSCLC appears warranted.

        Three-dimensional Spatiotemporal Accessible Solitons in a PT-symmetric Potential

        Utilizing the three-dimensional Snyder–Mitchell model with a PT-symmetric potential, we study the influence of PT symmetry on beam propagation in strongly nonlocal nonlinear media. The complex Coulomb potential is used as the PT-symmetric potential. A localized spatiotemporal accessible soliton solution of the model is obtained. Specific values of the modulation depth for different soliton parameters are discussed. Our results reveal that in these media the localized solitons can exist in various shapes,such as single-layer and multi-layer disk-shaped structures, as well as vortex-ring and necklace patterns.

        The Literary Embodiment of “Womanism” in Alice Walker’s Novels

        Alice Walker is a prominent contemporary African-American novelist who coined “womanist” to inspire black women to strive to achieve their liberty and identities against the sexual and racial oppression upon themselves. This paper aims to analyze and explore Walker’s three representative novels to understand black women’s resistance against the double domination and their journey towards self-independence, through which the spirit of “womanism” is vividly embodied. As regards to the double oppression of black women, Walker advocates building up “women’s league,” which ushers in their path of liberation. In the league, women and men compose together the hymn of the harmonious co-existence with love and understanding.

        정관년간(貞觀年間) 『진서(晉書)』의 "세(世)", "민(民)", "연(淵)" 및 "치(治)" 피휘연구(避諱硏究)

        『晉書』는 唐나라 太宗의 지시로 房玄齡등이 완성한 晉王朝의 正史이다. 1974년에 北京中華書局에서 출간된 『晉書』 표점 교정본은 자타공인의 영향력을 가진 결정판으로 간주되고 있다. 이 판본은 宋代의 殿本을 중심으로, 그 후 간행된 명청대 판본을 참고 하여 재정리한 것이다. 그러나 이러한 판본도 태생적 한계로 인한 避諱의 문제가 있을 수 있다. 책에는 당태종의 이름 "世"와 "民" 두 글자를 피하는 경우가 적지 않게 존재하며, 이와 동시에 이 두 글자를 피하지 않는 경우가 상당수 나타난다. 그렇다면 왜 이러한 두 가지 현상이 한 책에서 동시에 발생하는 것인가? 房玄齡등이 역사서를 편찬했을 당시 과연 "世"와 "民"字에 대해서 확실히 피하였는가? 혹은 편찬이 된 후에 唐代사람들이 책을 베끼는 과정에 諱를 추가한 것인가? 이 두 글자의 피휘 여부에 대한 연구결과에 따라 초기 『晉書』의 모습을 이해하는데 큰 도움이 될 것으로 생각된다. 특히 貞觀年間『晉書』의 완성 當時의 원형은 과연 어떠했는지 궁금한 것이 사실이다. 唐代의 황제가 바뀔 때마다 피휘 대상 글자가 늘어 날 수 있으며, 책을 정리하는 학자가 많음에 따라 완벽한 교정은 사실상 힘들었을 것이다. 이로 말미암아 『晉書』가 처음 만들어질 당시의 피휘 대상 글자와 1974년 중화서국 판본에서 보이는 모습은 차이가 있음을 짐작할 수 있다. 따라서 필자는 古典文獻을 교감하는 원칙대로 충분한 증명을 통해 貞觀年間『晉書』의 원 모습을 찾아보려 한다. 다만 연구의 범위를 축소하여 앞서 언급한 "世"와 "民"字의 연구에 한정하기로 가겠다. 전해져 내려온 여러 판본의 종합체인 중화서국 『晉書』가 "世"와 "民"자에 대해 어떤 모습을 보여 주었는지를 조사하여 古典文獻學의 입장에서 연구를 진행해 보도록 하겠다. 그 방법은 아래와 같다. 첫째, "世", "民"의 피휘에 관한 태종시의 조령과 관련된 문헌을 살펴보도록 하겠다. 當時의 분위기가 어떠했는지를 알아볼 수 있는 귀중한 기초 자료가 될 것이다. 둘째, 태종 李世民과 아버지 李淵의 이름이 74년 중화서국 본 『晉書』에서 얼마나 피휘되었는지, 그 실례를 조사해 수량을 비교해 보도록 하겠다. 셋째, 『晉書』 74년 본에 등장하는 고종 이름 "治"에 관한 피휘 이유를 다양한 각도에서 논증하도록 하겠다. The author of this paper addresses a question on the irregularities of Bihui phenomena shown in the current volume of 『Jin-shu, 晋書』. The study focuses on "Shi" and "Min" to avoid too wide scopes of the question. The previous literature such as Li, Ci-Ming, Qian, Da-Xin, etc. was introduced and reviewed. The findings of this study are presented in the following. First, the reason why "Shi" and "Min" were used not by following the convention of Bihui is proved that it was based on the order and policy from Taizong. Moreover, it is also proved that the phenomena of Bihui in relation to "Shi" and "Min" were not presented in the other documents at that time. Second, the author using a table compares the phenomena of Bihui in "Yuan" with the one in "Shi" and "Min" shown in 『Jin-shu』. "Yuan" was not used directly because the writer followed the conventional order of Bihui; in contrast, "Shi" and "Min" were used directly in many places. Although the original volume of 『Jin-shu』 was modified later on the basis of another Bihui, the quantitative differences in the cases of "Shi" and "Min" without Bihui can be the evidence proving that Bihui was not already used for "Shi" and "Min" in the times of Taizong. Third, this study analyzes the phenomenon of Bihui in the case of Gaozong`s name, "Zhi" presented in the current volume of 『Jin-shu』. Interestingly, many cases of Pihwi of "Chi" are discovered although 『Jin-shu』 was written in the age of Zheng-Guan when Li, Shi-Min ruled the country. The father of an emperor was even addressed by the original first name without Bihui, to say nothing of the reason why the name of his son should be the case of Bihui. Thus, it makes sense to tell that the case of Bihui of "Zhi" was added by people from the following generations. In conclusion, when Fang, Xuan-Ling and others published 『Jin-shu』, they did not use Bihui for Taizong`s name, "Shi" and "Min" if they were used separately. Furthermore, the cases of Bihui shown in the current volume of 『Jin-shu』 were additionally modified in the process of copying and rewriting of the book by people from the Tang Dynasty.
