        Yellow Moon Cactus ‘Ahwang’ Cultivar with Excellent Ability of Producing Offset

        비모란 선인장 ‘Ahwang’ 품종이 2016년에 국립원예특작과 학원에서 육성되었다. 증식력이 우수한 밝은 황색 ‘Ahwang’ 품종 육성을 위해서, 황색 ‘Hwangun’품종을 모본으로, 황색 ‘0930001’ 계통을 부본으로 하여 2012년 6월 25일에 교배하였다. 어린 비모란 선인장을 2014년 이전에 삼각주에 2번 접목하여 계통을 양성하였으며 2014년부터 2016년까지 총 3회에 걸쳐 생육특성을 조사하였다. ‘Ahwang’ 품종의 모구는 편원형 모양에 황색 구색(Y9A)이다. 모구는 평균 8.6개의 능(rip)과 2.7mm의 짧은 직립형 회색 가시를 가지고 있고 혹(tubercle)이 돌출된 형태를 띠고 있다. 10개월 재배 후 ‘Ahwang’ 품종의 구직경은 44.5mm였으며 자구는 평균 26.9개가 생성되었다. ‘Ahwang’ 품종은 모구 능마다 황색의 자구가 3-4개가 착생되었다. 2016년 육성계통 평가회에서 ‘Ahwang’ 품종은 기호도 점수 3.9을 받았다. 이 품종은 2018년 5월 16일 국립종자원에 등록되었으며 식물신품종보호법에 의해 품종보호(등록번호 7193)를 받게 되었다. The ‘Ahwang’ cultivar of the moon cactus was bred by the National Institute of Horticultural & Herbal Science in 2016. To breed the bright yellow, easily propagated ‘Ahwang’,’ the yellow maternal cultivar, ‘Hwangun,’ and the yellow paternal line, ‘0930001,’ were crossed on the June 25, 2012. Before 2014, a young moon cactus was grafted onto the vine cactus, Hylocereus trigonus, in vitro and in vivo, each once. The characteristics of growth were surveyed three times, from 2014 to 2016, according to the Korea Seed and Variety Service guidelines for Gymnocalycium mihanovichii. ‘Ahwang’ has a flat round shape, yellow skin (Y9A), and an average of 8.6 ribs. The spines on the body have a gray color. The spines were straight and 2.7 mm long on average. The tubercles on the rib were projected. This cultivar was 44.5 mm in diameter, and at 10 months after planting, produced an average of 26.9 yellow offsets. This cultivar produced three or four offsets on each rib. The preference score of this was 3.9 on a five-point scale. On the May 16, 2018, ‘Ahwang’ was registered (Registration No. 193) and is now protected by the Act on the Protection of New Varieties of Plants.

        Effect of the Different pH Levels of Nutrient Solution on the Growth and Color of Echeveria ‘Perle von Nurnberg’

        양액 pH가 에케베리아 생육과 색상에 미치는 영향을 알아 보기 위해 본 연구를 수행하였다. 에케베리아 ‘Perle von Nurnberg’ 품종을 선택하여 미국 유타주 프로보(Provo)시 소재 브리검영대학교 Plant and Wildlife 학과의 연구온실에서 수행되었다. 이 품종에 pH 4, pH 7 및 pH 10 3종류의 양액을 공급하여 연구를 수행하였다. 양액 pH 4 처리구에서는 초폭이 120.6mm로 pH 10 처리구의 105.3mm 보다 크게 자랐으며 유의성도 있었다. 하지만 엽장, 엽폭, 엽수에 있어서는 처리간 유의성은 없었다. pH meter를 통해서 식물체 즙액의 pH 를 측정하였는데 4.5에서 4.7 범위의 값을 보였으며 처리간 유의성은 없었다. 위의 결과로 양액의 pH는 식물체의 pH에 영향을 미치지 않는 것으로 판단되었다. 색차계를 이용하여 CIELAB 값을 측정하였을 때 pH 4 처리구에서의 적색도(a)는 -4.0이었으며 pH 10 처리구보다 더 녹색을 띠었다. 명도(L)과 황색도(b) 값은 처리간에 유의적인 차이가 없었다. HPLC를 통한 안토시아니딘 분석에서는 주로 cyanidin, delphinidin 및 pelargonidin의 함량이 모든 처리구에서 상대적으로 높게 나타났다. 공급양액의 pH가 상승함 따라 그 함량도 높아지는 경향을 보였다. Petunidin, malvidin 함량은 미량으로 존재하였으며, peonidin은 분석되지 않았다. 이상의 결과로부터 양액을 pH 10으로 처리하였을 때 에케베리아의 생육억제와 잎 착색에 가장 효과적임을 알 수 있었다. This experiment investigated the growth and leaf color of Echeveria ‘Perle von Nnurnberg’ in the experimental greenhouse of Plant and Wildlife Sciences, Brigham Young University, Provo, Utah. For one month, this cultivar was grown with three pH levels in nutrient solutions of pH 4, 7, and 10. The plant diameter of pH 4 nutrient solution was 120.6 mm and significantly bigger than that of pH 10 (105.3 mm). However, there were no significant differences in leaf length, leaf width, and number of leaves. The plant pH was measured by leaf extraction using a pH meter. The pH values were 4.5–4.7, but not significantly different among the treatments. Our result showed that the pH of the nutrient solution did not affect the plant pH. Additionally, the CIELAB values of leaves were measured using a colorimeter. The redness (a) of leaves in pH 4 treatment was -4.0, and the leaf was more greenish than that of pH 10 treatment. The degrees of lightness (L) and yellowness (b) were not significantly different among the treatments. From high-performance liquid chromatography analysis (HPLC), cyanidin, delphinidin, and pelargonidin were mainly detected in the treatments. As the pH level of the nutrient solutions increased, these anthocyanidins contents trended to be high. The contents of petunidin and malvidin were relatively small, and peonidin was not detected in all treatments. we conclude that pH10 treatment of the nutrient solution was most effective for the growth retardation and coloration of leaf in Echeveria.

        A New Grafted Cactus with Bright Yellow Color, 'Hwangseon'

        A new grafted cactus cultivar, called 'Hwangseon', Gymnocalycium mihanovichii, is a hybrid crossed between two orange color cultivars 'Geoseong' and 'Huhwang'. Mating was performed in the greenhouse of National Institute of Horticultural & Herbal Science (NIHHS) in 2005. The harvested seeds were sown at 100 mL volumetric flasks filled with 'Kyoto' medium. Seedling had been grafted into a young rootstock, Hylocereus trigonus, and cultured in vitro in 100 mL test tube for more than six months. After re-grafting and planting in the green house in 2006, their characteristics were evaluated three times until 2009. The new cultivar has a flat round shape and bright yellow skin color. In addition, it has 7 to 9 ribs with gray and straight spines on the body and produces an average of 12.3 offsets.

      • Debris transport evaluation during the blow-down phase of a LOCA using computational fluid dynamics

        <P><B>Highlights</B></P><P>► We conducted CFD simulation on the spreading of the coolant in the containment after a break of the hot leg. It is used to estimate the dispersion of the debris within the containment. ► It was assumed that the small and fine debris is transported by the discharge flow so that a fraction of the small and fine debris transport can be estimated based on the amount of water. ► The break flow was assumed to be a homogeneous two-phase mixture without phase separation. Isenthalpic expansion of the break flow was used to specify the inlet boundary condition of the break flow. ► The fraction of the small and fine debris transported to the upper part is 73%; this value is close to the value calculated using 1D lumped-parameter codes by the USNRC and the KINS, respectively, while 48% more than the value shown in the NEI 04-07.</P> <P><B>Abstract</B></P><P>The performance of the emergency recirculation water sump under the influence of debris accumulation following a loss-of-coolant accident (LOCA) has long been of safety concern. Debris generation and transport during a LOCA are significantly influenced by the characteristics of the ejected coolant flow. One-dimensional analyses previously have been attempted to evaluate the debris transport during the blow-down phase but the transport evaluation still has large uncertainties. In this work, a computational fluid dynamics (CFD) analysis was utilized to evaluate small and fine debris transport during the blow-down phase of a pressurized water reactor, OPR1000. The coolant ejected from the ruptured hot-leg was assumed to expand in an isenthalpic process. The transport of small and fine debris was assumed to be dominated by water-borne transport, and the transport fractions for the upper and lower parts of the containment were quantified based on the CFD analysis. It was estimated that 73% of small and fine debris is transported to the upper part of the containment. This value is close to the values estimated by nuclear regulatory bodies of The United States and Korea using one-dimensional models while it shows a large discrepancy from the value suggested in the NEI 04-07 baseline analysis.</P>

        Breeding of Moon Cactus ‘ Aul ’ with Symmetric Bicolor Offsets

        농가 선호도가 높은 진적색 비모란 선인장 ‘Aul’(Gymnocalycium mihanovichii ‘Aul’) 품종은 황적색 ‘0809067’계통을 모본으로, 진적색 ‘0828039’ 계통을 부본으로 하여 2012년 7월 7일에 계통간 교배하여 육성된 교배종이다. 어린 비모란 선인장을 2013년까지 삼각주에 2번 접목하여 계통을 양성하였으며 2014년부터 2016년까지 총 3회에 걸쳐 생육특성을 조사하였다. ‘Aul’ 품종의 모구는 편원형 모양과 적색 구색(R44A)이다. 모구는 평균 9.7개의 능(rip), 3.0mm의 짧은 직립형 회색 가시, 혹(tubercle)이 돌출된 형태였다. 10개월 후 ‘Aul’ 품종의 구직경은 46.9mm였으며 황적색(R44A+Y9A) 자구는 평균 16.4개가 생성되었다. ‘Aul’ 품종 모구의 능마다 황적색의 자구가 1~2개가 착생되며, 형태적으로 균형미가 있다. 2016년 육성계통 평가회에서 ‘Aul’ 품종은 기호도 점수 3.8을 받았다. 2018년 5월 16일에 이 품종은 국립종자원에 등록되었으며 종 자산업법에 의해 품종보호(등록번호 7195)를 받는다. The cultivar of the moon cactus, ‘Aul’, was bred by the National Institute of Horticultural & Herbal Science in 2016. The spine on its body has a gray color. The spine grew on average to 3.0 mm in a straight shape. The shape of the tubercle on the rib was projecting. This cultivar was 46.9 mm in diameter, and produced 16.4 offsets on average, with red & yellow colors 10 months after planting. This cultivar symmetrically produced 1 or 2 offsets per rib. The preference score was 3.8 on a 5-point scale. On May 16, 2018, ‘Aul’ was registered (Registration No. 7195) and is now being protected by the Act on the Protection of New Varieties of Plants.

        Breeding of Moon Cactus 'Yeonbit' with Pink Color

        농가 선호도가 높은 분홍색 비모란 선인장 ‘Yeonbit’는 분홍색 품종 ‘Yeonsi’을 모본으로, 분홍색 ‘Yeonsil’ 품종을 부본으로 하여 2011년에 교배하여 육성된 교배종이다. 종자를 70% C2H5OH와 2% NaOCl로 멸균처리한 후, 100mL 삼각플라스크 0.1% 활성탄이 첨가된 Kyoto 배지에 파종하였다. 발아된 유묘는 기저부를 잘라 기배계대 배양된 어린 삼각주에 접목한 후 동일한 배지가 첨가된 시험관에 치상하였다. 6개월 재배 후 온실로 옮겨서 순화과정을 거쳤으며, 기외에서 매년 접목을 하였으며 총 4번을 접목하여 2013년부터 2015년까지 총 3회에 걸쳐 생육특성을 조사하였다. ‘Yeonbit’ 품종은 편원형 모양과 분홍색 구색을 가지고 있다. 그리고 7~9개, 평균 8.0개의 능(rip), 갈색의 직립형 짧은 가시, 그리고 혹(tubercle)이 돌출된 형태로, 모구가 구성되어 있다. 정식 10개월 후 ‘Yeonbit’ 품종의 구직경은 34.5mm였으며 자구는 모구와 같은 분홍색으로 평균 15.4개가 생성되었다. 2015년 육성계통 평가회에서 ‘Yeonbit’ 품종은 기호도 점수 3.7을 받았다. 2017년 6월 12일에 이 품종은 국립종자원에 등록되었으며 종자산업법에 의해 품종보호(등록번호 6752)를 받게 되었다. The cultivar of moon cactus, ‘Yeonbit’ with pink color, was bred by National Institute of Horticultural & Herbal Science (NIHHS) in 2015. For breeding a pink cultivar with high preference, the pink color cultivars 'Yeonsi' and 'Yeonsil' were crossed in 2011. After 2 months, the seeds were harvested and separated from the peel. And then they were sterilized by C2H5OH 70% and NaOCl 2%, and then sowed in 100 mL mass flask filled with Kyoto medium + charcoal 0.1%. The bottom of shoot was cut, grafted into a young vine cactus, Hylocereus trigonus in vitro, and then planted into test tube with the same medium. After 6 months, a young moon cactus was secondly grafted into vine cactus in vivo. The growth was surveyed three times from 2013 to 2015, according to the guideline for the conduct of tests for distinctness, uniformity, and stability of Gymnocalycium mihanovichii. ‘Yeonbit’ has flat round shape and pink skin (RP N47B). This cultivar has 8.0 ribs in average. The spine had brown color. The spine averagely grew to 5.2 mm in a straight shape. The shape of tubercle on the rib was projecting. This was 34.5 mm in diameter and averagely produced 15.4 offsets at 10 months from planting. The preference score of this was 3.7 on a five-point scale. On June 12th 2017, ‘Yeonbit’ was registered (registration No. 6752) and is now protected by Korean Seed Industry Law.

        접목선인장 신품종 ‘화홍’은 흑적색의 ‘9508021’ 계통을 모본으로 진적색의 ‘진홍’을 부본으로 2002년에 교배한 후대이다. 이 품종은 처음 기내에서 파종한 후 유묘를 무병삼 각주에 접목하고 100mL 시험관에 정식하여 6개월을 재배하였다. 2003년에 기외에서 접목한 후에 2006년까지 3회에 걸쳐 그 특성이 조사되었다. 구는 진적색의 편원형이며, 몸체에 7~9개의 결각이 있으며, 회색의 반직립 가시를 가지고 있다. 자구 착생수는 평균 13.0개로 10.4개의 대조품종‘진홍’보다 우수하였다. A new grafted cactus cultivar, ‘Hwahong’, Gymnocalycium mihanovichii, is a hybrid crossed between ‘9508021’ line with red and black color, and ‘Jinhong’, with dark red color in 2002. It grew for 6 months after grafting in vitro and culturing at 100 mL test tube. After grafting and planting in vivo in 2003, the various characteristics were evaluated three times until 2006. It has flat-round shape and dark red skin. In addition, it has 7 to 9 ribs and the gray and slant spines on the body. The ability of propagation in ‘Hwahong’ was better than that in ‘Jinhong’ to produce approximately 13.0 daughter globes.
