      • Immune and Anti-oxidant Functions of Ethanol Extracts of Scutellaria baicalensis Georgi in Mice Bearing U14 Cervical Cancers

        Background: The objective was to study the effect of Scutellaria baicalensis Georgi ethanol extracts (SBGE) on immune and anti-oxidant function in U14 tumor-bearing mice. Materials and Methods: U14 tumor-bearing mice were randomly divided into eight groups: a control group, a cyclophosphamide (CTX) group, three dose groups of SBGEI (high, medium, low), and three dose groups of SBGEII (high, medium, low). After two weeks, the thymus and spleen weight indices of mice bearing U14 cervical cancer were calculated. Enzyme linked immunosorbent assays (ELISA) was used to determine the levels of serum IL-2, TNF-${\alpha}$, IL-8, and PCNA. MDA activity and SOD activity in plasma were measured with detection kits. Results: In the SBGE groups, thymus weight and spleen weight indices of U14 tumor-bearing mice were significantly higher than in the control group or CTX group (p<0.05). Compared to control group, the levels of serum IL-2 and TNF-${\alpha}$ in U14 tumor-bearing mice increased significantly, whereas the contents of serum IL-8 and PCNA decreased (p<0.05). The activity of SOD increased with the growing dose of SBGE, while the activity of MDA decreased significantly in the highe-rdose groups of SBGE. Conclusions: These findings suggested that SBGE, especially at high dose, 1000 mg/kg, showed significant immune and anti-oxidant effects infU14 tumor-bearing mice, which might be the mechanisms of SBGE inhibition of tumor growth.

        High‑Efficiency Inhibition of Gravity Segregation in Al–Bi Immiscible Alloys by Adding Lanthanum

        The inhibition of gravity segregation has been a long-standing challenge in fabrication and applications of homogeneousimmiscible alloys. Therefore, the effect of rare-earth La on the gravity segregation of Al–Bi immiscible alloys was investigatedto understand the homogenization mechanism. The results showed that the addition of La can completely suppress thegravity segregation. This is attributed to the nucleation of Bi-rich liquid phase on the in-situ produced LaBi2phase and thechange of the shape of LaBi2@Bi droplets. In addition, a novel strategy is developed to prepare the homogeneous immisciblealloys through the addition of rare-earth elements. This strategy not only is applicable to other immiscible alloys, but alsois conducive to finding more elements to suppress the gravity segregation. This study provided a useful reference for thefabrication of the homogeneous immiscible alloys.

        Network Impact Evaluation of the Introduction of Road and Rail to a Transport Corridor for Developing Cities

        This paper analyzes the global network impact of the introduction of new transport infrastructure involving road and rail to a transport corridor. The analytical framework is proposed by transport network-based simulation. Transport network is composed of road network, bus network and rail network. Both passenger demand and freight demand are considered. Four scenarios are built, including do-nothing, the introduction of both road and rail, the introduction of only road and the introduction of only rail. Each representative scenario is evaluated from three aspects viz., efficiency, equity and environment. A case study of the city of Dalian, China is conducted to address the difficult trade-off issue. The results show that as car ownership or passenger demand increases the changing trend for each indicator is distinct. The findings have significant implications for other developing cities.

        Case Reports : Paroxysmal Supraventricular Tachycardia in an Infant with Hand, Foot, and Mouth Disease

        An 11-month-old male infant was admitted to our hospital with fever, fussiness, poor feeding, vomiting, and tachypnea for two days prior. Physical examination revealed sporadic papules and vesicles occurring on his hands, feet, face, and perianal mucosa. Enterovirus 71 was identified from both throat swab and vesicle fluid using virus isolation techniques. The patient`s heart rate fluctuated in a very narrow range from 180~210/beats/min regardless of his physiologic state. An electrocardiogram showed P-waves buried within or occurring just after regular, narrow, QRS complexes. The patient was diagnosed as having hand, foot, and mouth disease in combination with paroxysmal supraventricular tachycardia (PSVT). The child recovered well with symptomatic treatment, including intravenous administration of acyclovir, glucocorticoids, immunoglobulin, adenosine, and sotalol. PSVT was terminated within 36 hours of hospitalization. The skin lesions became crusted on the third day, and then proceeded to heal spontaneously. Here we report on this unusual case and review the associated literature. (Ann Dermatol 24(2) 200∼202, 2012)

        The Relationship between Job Crafting and Work-Family Enrichment: The Role of Perceived Organizational Support and Person-Job Fit

        [연구목적] 본 연구는 직무재창조가 일-가정의 충실화에 미치는 영향을 검토하고 이 관계에서 개인-직무 적합성의 매개효과와 조직지원인식의 조절효과 검증을 실시하였다. [연구방법] 본 연구는 선행연구를 검토한 후 알아보고자 하는 연구문제를 바탕으로 6개의 연구 가설을 구성하고 연구 모형을 수립하였다. 중국의 직원들로부터 데이터를 수집하였고 SPSS 24.0 프로그램을 사용하여 연구 모델의 가설을 검증하였다. [연구결과] 직무재창조는 일-가정의 충실화에 정(+)의 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났으며. 직무재창조와 일-가정의 충실화의 관계에서 개인-직무 적합성의 매개효과와 조직지원인식의 조절효과를 보이는 것으로 나타났다. [연구의 시사점] 조직은 경영진의 자발적이고 상향적 접근방식의 직무 재설계 행동을 강조해야 하며, 이는 일-가정 충실화를 직접적으로 촉진할 수 있다. 경영자들은 직무재설계가 일-가정 충실화에 미치는 영향을 강화하기 위해서 직원들의 조직지원인식을 개선할 수 있는 더 많은 방법을 장려해야 한다. [Purpose] The aim of this study is to verify the impact of job crafting on work-family enrichment, the mediating effect of person-job fit and the moderating effect of perceived organizational support. [Methodology] Based on theoretical research, this study proposes 6 key research hypotheses and established a research model. Data were collected from employees in China by the survey method and SPSS 24.0 were used to test the hypotheses of the research model. [Findings] Job crafting is positively related to work-family enrichment in both directions, person-job fit as the mediating variable and perceived organizational support as the moderating variable effect job crafting and work-family enrichment. [Implications] Organizations should highlight the job crafting behaviors that are self-initiated and the bottom-up approach of management can directly promote work-family enrichment. Managers should encourage more ways to improve employee’ perceived organizational support so as to strengthen the impacts of job crafting on work-family enrichment.

        Fractionation and Characterization of ε-Poly-L-lysine from Streptomyces albulus CGMCC 1986

        ε-Poly-L-lysine (ε-PLL) produced by Streptomyces albulus CGMCC 1986 was fractionated using ultra-filtration technique with 2 and 5 kDa cut-offs of membrane. The number-average molecular weight of each fraction was determined by 1H nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR)method. The number-average molecular weights of the cutoffs of 5 and 2 kDa and the filtrate are 4,230.95, 3,687.80,and 1,900.82 Da, respectively. 1H NMR indicates the chemical shifts of α-H, β-H, γ-H, δ-H, and ε-H are very similar to all the fractions. Fourier transform-infrared (FTIR)spectra showed that the ε-PLL solid samples obtained by freeze-drying at pH 5 with molecular weights higher than 2 kDa take on a β-turn conformation, however, the fraction with molecular weight smaller than 2 kDa adopts random coil structure. The antibacterial test proved that the fraction between 2 and 5 kDa of membranes behaves the highest antibacterial activity than other fractions for the test strains of Staphylococcus aureus, Micrococcus luteus,Bacillus subtilis, Escherichia coli, and Shigella.

        Toxoplasma gondii induces autophagy and apoptosis in human umbilical cord mesenchymal stem cells via downregulation of Mcl−1

        <P>Autophagy and apoptosis are critical for controlling Toxoplasma gondii (T. gondii) infection. T. gondii infection during pregnancy can damage the fetus and cause birth defects; however, the molecular mechanisms of this process are poorly understood. This study aims to determine the activities of autophagy and apoptosis as well as their regulatory mechanisms during T. gondii infection by using human umbilical cord mesenchymal stem cells (hUC-MSCs) as a model of congenital diseases. LC3B, a hallmark protein of autophagy was incrementally upregulated with the infection duration, whereas p62 was downregulated in T. gondii-infected hUC-MSCs. Concurrent to this result, the invasion of T. gondii into hUC-MSCs increased in a time-dependent manner. The expression levels of Bcl-2 family proteins including Bcl-2, Bcl-xL, Bim, Bax, Bid and Bak were not altered; however, Mcl-1 levels in hUC-MSCs were dramatically decreased upon T. gondii infection. In addition, at 24h post-infection, cleaved PARP and cleaved caspase-3 protein levels were elevated in hUC-MSCs. Importantly, Mcl-1 overexpression reduced the levels of autophagy- and apoptosis-related proteins in T. gondii-infected hUC-MSCs. Mcl-1 proteins were primarily expressed in the fraction containing mitochondria and strongly interacted with Beclin-1 under normal conditions; however, these interactions were remarkably attenuated by T. gondii infection. These results suggest that mitochondrial Mcl-1 is an essential signaling mediator regulating the activation of autophagy and apoptosis during T. gondii infection.</P>

        Two Luminescent Cd(II) Coordination Polymers: Enhancement Activity on Pancreatic Cancer Combined with Biliary Stent Placement and 125I Particles

        With the reaction between bib ligands, 5-substituted isophthalic acid and Cd(II) ions, we produced two coordination polymers in success, that is, [Cd(5-meo-ip) (bib)0.5]n (2) and [Cd(5-me-ip)(bib)(H2O)]n·n(H2O) (1) (bib is 1,4-bis(imidazoly)butane, 5-meo-H2ip is 5-methoxyisophthalic acid, and 5-me-H2ip is 5-methylisophthalic acid). The luminescent performances and thermal stability of the two compounds were also explored. Their anti-pancreatic cancer activity combined with biliary stent placement and 125I particles was evaluated and the specific mechanism was explored as well. Firstly, after the model construction and compound treatment, the weight and volume of the tumor tissue was measured. Next, the apoptosis level of the cancer cells were evaluated with Annexin V-FITC/PI apoptosis assay.

      • Bioremediation of Coastal Saline-Alkali Marshy Soil by the Irrigation with Pulp & Paper Wastewater

        Based on the importance of coastal saline-alkali soil remediation in Yellow River Delta, China, the Cl-、Na+ transferring tendency in soil and the saline-alkali soil eco-remediation effects were researched by measuring soil Cl-、Na+ 、soluble salt、soil respire rate and dry biomass weight of reed, etc. periodically. The results shows: the concentration of irrigated soil Cl-、Na+ and soluble salt were decreased 57.7-70%、45.7-47.1% and 53.2-59.7%, respectively, and soil salt decreasing level were little influenced by the hydraulic load, inundation depth varies in some degree, but it was influenced by dry-wet alternative irrigating mode The concentration of soil total nitrogen、organic mass、microbial respire rate, and the reed biomass above ground were increased averagely to 2.17、1.20、1.46 and 1.34 multiple respectively afterirrigation with wastewater, which have complex remediation effects on the coastal saline-alkali wetland, but there are some differences among the different irrigating crafts.
