Dendrophthoe laljii sp. nov. (Loranthaceae) from Andaman and Nicobar Islands, India, is described as anaerial branch hemiparasite on Artocarpus heterophyllus Lam. (Moraceae). The notes on conservationstatus and germination ecology were also depicted in this study. Apparently, this species resemblesD. curvata (Blume) Miq, but strictly differs in vegetative morphology and floral characteristics. A taxonomickey to the species of Dendrophthoe Mart. in India is also provided.

Portulaca laljii(Portulacaceae), a new species from the Eastern Ghats (Prakasam District, Andhra Pra-desh), India, is described and illustrated along with conservation status. Perennial prostrate-decumbentmuch branched herb with tuberousfleshy roots, glabrous, stem without scaly bark, nodal axils withouthairs, lanate nature of narrowly lanceolate,flat leaves, glabrous, leaf axis without hairs, solitary, bracteateflowers with very short pedicel and 2e3 bracteoles, petals with emarginate, sometimes mucronate apex,pistil with trifid style, prolate-shaped capsule, bilobular to subglobular, conspicuously beaked seedswithout golden luster and with slightly elongated seed testa distinguishes it from all previously knownspecies. Economic properties of an integrated wind power plant (WPP) and the demand response (DR) programs in the sample electricity market are studied. Time of use (TOU) and direct load control (DLC) are two of the DR programs that are applied in the system. The influences of these methods and the incentive payments by market operator's (MOs) with variable elasticity are studied. It is observed that DR with TOU and DLC programs together yields better revenue and energy saving for MOs.

A simple and efficient synthesis of various α-aminophosphonates (3a-l) by the reaction of substituted aromatic/heterocyclic aldehydes, 2-amino-6-methoxy-benzothiazole and dibutyl/diphenyl phosphites under microwave irradiation without catalyst was accomplished. The phosphonates were characterized by elemental analysis, IR, 1H, 13C- and 31PNMR spectra. They showed promising antimicrobial, anti-oxidant activities depending on the nature of bioactive groups at the α-carbon.

<P>The inverse gas chromatography study on the fluconazole drug surface was performed, and the net retention volumes, polar probes, and VN of n-alkanes are determined at four temperatures over the range 318.15-333.15 K. The net retention values of n-alkanes were used to evaluate the London dispersive surface free energy gamma(L)(S) by three different methods, namely, the Donnet Park, Dorris Gray, and Schultz methods. The gamma(L)(S) values were found to increase from 318.15 to 323.15 K for all three methods and then decrease from 323.15 to 333.15 K. The gamma(L)(S) values were found to be slightly higher in the Schultz method when compared to the results of the Donnet-Park and Dorris-Gray methods. The specific free energy values Delta G(a)(s) and the specific enthalpy Delta H-a(s) values have been calculated using the V-N data of polar probes. The Guttmann Lewis acid base parameters, K-a and K-b, were obtained using Delta H-a(s) values and were found to be 0.217 and 1.518, respectively. The surface character (K-b/K-a) was found to be 7.0. The results revealed that the fluconazole powder surface contains relatively more basic sites than acidic sites and can combine strongly with acidic substrates. The surface energy and acid base data of fluconazole can be used during formulation of the drug and to understand the drug release process.</P>

In this paper, a new continuously and linearly controlled capacitive static VAR compensator is proposed for the automatic power factor correction of inductive single phase loads in 220V 50Hz power system networks. The compensator is constructed of a harmonic-suppressed TCR equipped with a new adaptive current controller. The harmonic-suppressed TCR is a new configuration that includes a thyristor controlled reactor (TCR) shunted by a passive third harmonic filter. In addition, the parallel configuration is connected to an AC source via a series first harmonic filter. The harmonic-suppressed TCR is designed so that negligible harmonic current components are injected into the AC source. The compensator is equipped with a new adaptive closed loop current controller, which responds linearly to reactive current demands. The no load operating losses of this compensator are negligible when compared to its capacitive reactive current rating. The proposed system is validated on PSpice which is very close in terms of performance to real hardware.
