Objective: Predicting disease relapse and early intervention could reduce symptom severity. We attempted to identify potential indicators that predict the duration to next admission for an acute affective episode in patients with bipolar I disorder. Methods: We mathematically defined the duration to next psychiatric admission and performed single-variate regressions using historical data of 101 patients with bipolar I disorder to screen for potential variables for further multivariate regressions. Results: Age of onset, total psychiatric admissions, length of lithium use, and carbamazepine use during the psychiatric hospitalization contributed to the next psychiatric admission duration positively. The all-in-one found that hyperlipidemia during the psychiatric hospitalization demonstrated a negative contribution to the duration to next psychiatric admission; the last duration to psychiatric admission, lithium and carbamazepine uses during the psychiatric hospitalization, and heart rate on the discharge day positively contributed to the duration to next admission. Conclusion: We identified essential variables that may predict the duration of bipolar I patients’ next psychiatric admission. The correlation of a faster heartbeat and a normal lipid profile in delaying the next onset highlights the importance of managing these parameters when treating bipolar I disorder.
Median regression model with left truncated and interval-censored data
Pao-sheng Shen 한국통계학회 2013 Journal of the Korean Statistical Society Vol.42 No.4
We consider the problem of fitting a heteroscedastic median regression model fromleft-truncated and interval-censored data. It is demonstrated that the adapted Efron’sself-consistency equation of McKeague, Subramanian, and Sun (2001) can be extendedto analyze left-truncated and interval-censored data. The asymptotic property of theproposed estimator is established. We evaluate the finite sample performance of theproposed estimators through simulation studies.
A self-consistent estimator of survival function with interval-censored and left-truncated data
Pao-sheng Shen 한국통계학회 2015 Journal of the Korean Statistical Society Vol.44 No.2
Interval censoring refers to a situation in which, T ∗ i , the time to occurrence of an event of interest is only known to lie in an interval [L∗i , R∗i ]. In some cases, the variable T ∗ i also suffers left-truncation. The nonparametric maximum likelihood estimator (NPMLE) of the survival function of T ∗ i can be obtained by using an EM algorithm of Turnbull (1976). One disadvantage of the NPMLE is that it is not uniquely defined in the innermost intervals. In this article, we propose a self-consistent estimator (SCE), which does not require interpolation. Furthermore, we show that the NPMLE is also an SCE. We establish the consistency of the SCE under certain conditions, which implies that the NPMLE is also a consistent estimator. A simulation study is conducted to compare the performance between the SCE and the NPMLE.
Estimation of Kendall’s tau for bivariate doubly truncated data
Pao-sheng Shen 한국통계학회 2016 Journal of the Korean Statistical Society Vol.45 No.1
In this article, we consider the estimation of Kendall’s tau for bivariate doubly truncated data, where two correlated event times are potentially observed only if both fall within subject specific intervals of times. Using the inverse-probability-weighted (IPW) approach, we propose two nonparametric estimators of Kendall’s tau for bivariate doubly truncated data. The first estimator is based on V-statistics and the second estimator is based on weighted comparable pairs. The asymptotic properties of the proposed estimators are established. Simulation studies are conducted to investigate their finite sample performance.
Pseudo MLE for semiparametric transformation model with doubly truncated data
Pao-sheng Shen,Yi Liu 한국통계학회 2019 Journal of the Korean Statistical Society Vol.48 No.3
In this article, we consider the efficient estimation of the semiparametric transformation model with doubly truncated data. We propose a two-step approach for obtaining the pseudo maximum likelihood estimators (PMLE) of regression parameters. In the first step, the truncation time distribution is estimated by the nonparametric maximum likelihood estimator (Shen, 2010a) when the distribution function K of the truncation time is unspecified or by the conditional maximum likelihood estimator (Bilker and Wang, 1996) when K is parameterized. In the second step, using the pseudo complete-data likelihood function with the estimated distribution of truncation time, we propose expectation– maximization algorithms for obtaining the PMLE.Weestablish the consistency of the PMLE. The simulation study indicates that the PMLE performs well in finite samples. The proposed method is illustrated using an AIDS data set.
The Optimal Degree of Reciprocity in Tariff Reduction
Pao-Li Chang 대외경제정책연구원 2020 East Asian Economic Review Vol.24 No.3
This paper characterizes the optimal reciprocal trade policy in the environment of Melitz (2003) with firm productivity heterogeneity. In particular, without making parametric assumptions on firm productivity distribution, this paper derives the optimal degree of reciprocal tariff reductions that maximize the world welfare. A reciprocal import subsidy raises the industry productivity, lowering aggregate price; a reciprocal import tariff helps correct the markup distortion, increasing nominal income. With all the conflicting effects of import tariffs on welfare considered, the optimal degree of reciprocity in multilateral tariff reduction is shown to be free trade.
Hybrid Navigation of a Four-Wheeled Tour-Guide Robot
Yuan-Pao Hsu,Ching-Chih Tsai,Zeng-Chung Wang,Yi-Jiang Feng,Hung-Hsing Lin 제어로봇시스템학회 2009 제어로봇시스템학회 국제학술대회 논문집 Vol.2009 No.8
This paper develops methodologies and techniques for motion control and autonomous navigation of a tour-guide robot with a four-wheeled omni-directional mobile platform. A nonlinear unified kinematical control method is presented for point stabilization and trajectory tracking of a mobile robot which equipped with four independent driving omni-directional wheels equally spaced at 90 degrees between adjacent wheels. A hybrid navigation method is proposed to achieve safely autonomous navigation of the tour-guide robot; this approach includes two behaviors: one is the point-to-point trajectory tracking, and the other is the obstacle avoidance function using the traversability distance histogram (TDH) method to avoid barriers in museums. The effectiveness and merit of the proposed techniques are exemplified by conducting several experiments on an experimental four-wheeled omni-directional tour-guide robot.

The characteristic that disconnect into silence was borned in Fei-Ming literature. Its works keep tradition, there is innovation too. According to this prerequisite, the text discusses the relation between modernity and Modern Chinese Literature. Further probe into the important meaning of Fei-Ming literature in modern literature, understand the ``modernization`` for having any meaning, and subjectivity and practice in the works in literature by this.
