Scaffolding strategies for young learners' EFL/ESL proficiency: focused on task-based activities
Lee, Chong-nim 대한영어영문학회 2006 영어영문학연구 Vol.32 No.1
Lee, Chong-nim. “Scaffolding Strategies for Young Learners’ EFL/ESL Proficiency: Focusd on Task-Based Activities.” Studies on English Language and Literature. 32.1(2006): 185-205. This study investigates the quality of three Korean children’s English development over the observation period and explores how efficiently their scaffolding and learning strategies affect their L2 improvement on the sociocultural perspectives, since the (co)relation to the strategies used by the children in the process of L2 learning/acquisition should presuppose improvement in their L2 use. It will suggest effective teaching and learning strategies, materials, and scaffolding strategies for parents or other family members as well as English teachers, by investigating the learning context and the children’s development of their English literacy and proficiency. The application of the teaching implication in an EFL classroom will be discussed. (University of Southampton, UK)

Cancer cells undergo uncontrolled proliferation, and aberrantmitochondrial alterations. Tumor necrosis factor receptorassociatedprotein 1 (TRAP1) is a mitochondrial heat shockprotein. TRAP1 mRNA is highly expressed in some cancer celllines and tumor tissues. However, the effects of its overexpressionon mitochondria are unclear. In this study, we assessedmitochondrial changes accompanying TRAP1 overexpression,in a mouse cell line, NIH/3T3. We found that overexpressionof TRAP1 leads to a series of mitochondrial aberrations, including increase in basal ROS levels, and decrease inmitochondrial biogenesis, together with a decrease in peroxisomeproliferator-activated receptor gamma coactivator-1α(PGC-1α) mRNA levels. We also observed increased extracellularsignal-regulated kinase (ERK) phosphorylation, andenhanced proliferation of TRAP1 overexpressing cells. Thisstudy suggests that overexpression of TRAP1 might be a criticallink between mitochondrial disturbances and carcinogenesis.[BMB Reports 2014; 47(5): 280-285]
Adaptation of Deep Learning Image Reconstruction for Pediatric Head CT: A Focus on the Image Quality
Nim Lee,Hyun-Hae Cho,So Mi Lee,Sun Kyoung You 대한영상의학회 2023 대한영상의학회지 Vol.84 No.1
Purpose To assess the effect of deep learning image reconstruction (DLIR) for head CT in pediatric patients. Materials and Methods We collected 126 pediatric head CT images, which were reconstructed using filtered back projection, iterative reconstruction using adaptive statistical iterative reconstruction (ASiR)-V, and all three levels of DLIR (TrueFidelity; GE Healthcare). Each image set group was divided into four subgroups according to the patients’ ages. Clinical and dose-related data were reviewed. Quantitative parameters, including the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) and contrast-to-noise ratio (CNR), and qualitative parameters, including noise, gray matter-white matter (GM-WM) differentiation, sharpness, artifact, acceptability, and unfamiliar texture change were evaluated and compared. Results The SNR and CNR of each level in each age group increased among strength levels of DLIR. Highlevel DLIR showed a significantly improved SNR and CNR (p < 0.05). Sequential reduction of noise, improvement of GM-WM differentiation, and improvement of sharpness was noted among strength levels of DLIR. Those of high-level DLIR showed a similar value as that with ASiR-V. Artifact and acceptability did not show a significant difference among the adapted levels of DLIR. Conclusion Adaptation of high-level DLIR for the pediatric head CT can significantly reduce image noise. Modification is needed while processing artifacts.

Intestinal ganglioneuromatosis is an extremely rare condition, particularly in pediatric patients, and the imaging features of the disease have been rarely reported before. Herein, we present a pediatric case of intestinal ganglioneuromatosis involving the transverse colon and splenic flexure with bowel perforation, which is a rare initial manifestation of the disease.
How Monolingual Carers Support Their Child to Internalize L2 Vocabulary
Chong-Nim Lee(이정님) 신영어영문학회 2007 신영어영문학 Vol.36 No.-
The purpose of this study is to present an educational implication that a monolingual guardian can scaffold children’s second language learning. Data were collected from field notes and audio-recordings of reading activities and the subsequent interviews, both of which were transcribed to discuss the mechanisms by which strategies of comprehension and narrative retelling take shape. A microgenetic approach was adopted to analyze the interactions produced by a Korean seven-year-old girl and her monolingual Grandmother as they worked collaboratively in reading and retelling storybooks. In general, results showed that the use of L1 as an interactional tool helps internalize as well as facilitate a young L2 learner’s vocabulary learning.
New Tooth Brushing Campaign about 1-2-3
Dal-Nim Yang,Kyung-Sook Hwang,Ha-Jeong Kwon,Yong Duk Park 대한예방치과학회 2015 International Journal of Clinical Preventive Denti Vol.11 No.1
Objective: 3-3-3 Brushing Method Campaign was recommended to the people thanks to high awareness, education effect and publicity. However, the necessity about new teeth brushing campaign has been suggested recently, because of the low scholar evidence and practice over 3-3-3 Brushing Method Campaign. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to propose the paradigm of new teeth brushing campaign based on the research and brushing method of each country. Methods: The campaign is claimed on the basis of the preceding articles and directions related to toothbrushing. In particular, We would to deploy based on the grounds of the ADA, the pioneer in the study of these practices. Results: The meaning of 1-2-3 Brushing Campaign is like the below. First, the meaning of 1 of the 1-2-3 Brushing Campaign is a tooth brushing within 1 minute after having a meal. Second, ‘2’ is that a tooth brushing should be continued at least for over 2 minutes. Third, ‘3’ is the person should be brushing teeth at least 3 times a day-just after having a meal. At last, the meaning of the 7 is that a person should rinse the mouth over 7 times whenever it brushes teeth. Conclusion: 3-3-3 Brushing Method Campaign has many advantages, but disadvantages. Especially, there is a need to think about which affects the risk the whole body health after tooth brushing, because 3-3-3 Brushing Method Campaign is focused only on the brushing time and the number of the brushing. Therefore, 1-2-3 Brushing Campaign is very important on the point of view that suggests the right way of tooth brushing and guideline which is necessary to ensure the safety of the whole body health
Effect of Tungstate Supplemented Diet on the Toluene Metabolism in Rats
Soon-Nim Chae,Tae-Won Jeon,Chong-Guk Yoon 한국식품영양과학회 2000 Preventive Nutrition and Food Science Vol.5 No.2
To evaluate an effect of oxygen free radical on the toluene metabolism, the rats were fed on a tungstate supplemented diet (0.75 g of tungstate included in 1 kg of standard diet) or a standard diet. To the present xanthine oxidase deficient animal model, toluene (0.15 ml/100 g of body weight) was injected and then the animals were sacrificed after 24 hrs to determine the toluene metabolizing enzyme activities and toluene metabolite, hippuric acid concentration. The increasing rate of urinary hippuric acid concentration was significantly (p<0.01) higher in tungstate fed animals than that in standard diet fed ones. Hepatic cytochrome P-450 contents were significantly higher (p<0.01) in tungstate fed animals than in standard diet fed ones. And tungstate fed animals showed a tendency of higher activities of benzylalcohol dehydrogenase while a significantly higher activities of benzaldehyde dehydrogenase (p<0.01) than standard diet fed animals. In conclusion, the more possibly reduced oxygen free radical in toluene-treated rats fed with a tungstate supplemented diet than in those fed with a standard diet would be responsible for the enhancement of toluene metabolism.
