Fabrication of Planar Waveguide Chip for Splitting or Combining an Infrared Light Beam
Nguyen Thanh Binh,Nguyen Tat Thanh,Duong Thanh Trung,Nguyen Thanh Huong,Le Quoc Minh 한국물리학회 2008 THE JOURNAL OF THE KOREAN PHYSICAL SOCIETY Vol.52 No.5
Based on hybrid materials of polymethamethyl acrylat, silica and zirconia (ASZ)/Titania (AST), some planar structures of optical power splitter/combiner type 1×N channels were designed and simulated for making masks by using computer software. Splitter chips were then fabricated by using the thin-film sol-gel technique and their structure was formed by using a direct photo-patterning method with UV light and a mask. A conformation of the waveguide was tested with an Alpha-Step IQ system. The waveguide properties of the splitter were measured with a 1550 nm laser source. The experimental results show that the light was transmitted through the chip with a total output efficiency of around 6% and was separated uniformly at the output channels. The study aims to contribute to the improvement of project management in Vietnam. It focuses on developing new critical success factors (CSFs) which can be used to assess the success of project management in the country. This is a promising issue considering the rapid changes occurring within the business environment. The reason is because CSFs carry great consequences on project management issues, particularly in the context of Vietnam, which is currently experiencing many big scale projects involving both local and foreign investors. Two applications are utilised. One is to adapt the business model of Belassi and Tukel (1996) to observe the transitional and emerging economy of Vietnam. The other is to examine the data collected from a survey to examine the new CSFs which can then be used to assess the success of its projects and project management in Vietnam. The research results showed some remarkable differences between CSFs of Vietnam and foreign countries in both number of success factors and its impact levels which should be paid attention by foreign project managers/owners when doing investment and project management in Vietnam. The outcome generated can be useful to project owners/managers as well as policy makers in Vietnam’s business environment.

OBJECTIVES: The prevalence of diabetes mellitus is rapidly increasing in Vietnam, particularly among adults aged over 45 years. This study estimated trends in diabetes and prediabetes prevalence and determined risk factors in Vietnamese adults (over 45 years). METHODS: A cross-sectional study was conducted based on data from an annual diabetes screening program among people aged 45-69 years in an urban city in central Vietnam (Da Nang). Joinpoint regression analyses were performed to calculate the annual percentage change and ptrend-values. Multinomial logistic regression analysis was used to determine risk factors. RESULTS: In total, 3,765 men and 9,149 women were included in this analysis. The age-adjusted prevalence of diabetes and prediabetes in 2017 was 11.4% and 52.9%, respectively. The prevalence of diabetes was higher in men (15.1%) than in women (10.3%), but that of prediabetes was similar in both genders (53.4% vs. 52.8%). The prevalence of prediabetes significantly increased during the study period, whereas no upward or downward trend for diabetes was observed. The prevalence of obesity, abdominal obesity, hypertension, and dyslipidemia showed no obvious trend. Obesity, a high waist-to-hip ratio, hypertension, more severe abdominal obesity, and dyslipidemia were significantly associated with a higher risk of diabetes and prediabetes. CONCLUSIONS: Diabetes and prediabetes were more prevalent among people aged over 45 years than in the general population. Da Nang has experienced a marked increase in the prevalence of prediabetes. These findings have significant implications regarding the need for nationwide public health interventions and management aiming at diabetes prevention and control.

The purpose of this research is to evaluate the quality of non-financial information disclosure by companies listed on the Vietnamese stock exchange. In 2019, 140 annual reports from 140 companies listed on the Vietnam Stock Exchange were included in the research sample. The remaining 134 reports were eligible study after removing those that lacked essential data. Using the statistical software SPSS version 25 and Excel office software, the study has selected the data processing method and the disproportionate disclosure index method to evaluate the quality of non-financial information disclosure of companies. The findings of the study demonstrate that companies listed on the Vietnam stock exchange are particularly interested in giving non-financial information to financial statement consumers as required by law, although the level of disclosure is still inadequate. The findings also illustrate the varying levels of non-financial information disclosure by category of information, as well as substantial disparities between them (general information about the company, environmental and social information, corporate governance information, etc.). The findings of the study show that the majority of Vietnam’s publicly traded enterprises are less interested in reporting environmental information.
Determinants of Intra-Industry Trade between Vietnam and Countries in TPP
NGUYEN, Ha Minh,QUAN, Binh Quoc Minh,LE, Huong Van,TRAN, Thinh Van Korea Distribution Science Association 2020 The Journal of Asian Finance, Economics and Busine Vol.7 No.1
Intra-industry trade (IIT) has played an important role in international trade of Vietnam as a result of rapid growth of the country. This article investigates the level of IIT between Vietnam and 11 trading partners in Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) over the period 2000-2014. Although there have been a large number of empirical researches contributed to the determinants of IIT, most of them only pay attention on developed countries where the trade flows are similar due to similar demand structure and production technology. Until now, there is no study on intra-industry trade between Vietnam and countries in TPP that Vietnam recently signed a trade agreement in early 2016. IIT is measured by the Grubel-Lloyd index. The index shows that the extent of intra-industry trade between Vietnam and the trading countries is not high due to the level of economic development and the market size. The determinants of IIT are examined using a panel regression model. In the empirical analysis, the results indicate that Vietnam's intra-industry trade is positively correlated with country size, while it is negatively correlated with income dissimilarity, the trade openness, and geographical distance. This study contributes to the new theoretical trade theory on the evidence of developing country's IIT.
What Influences Decision on Seasoned Equity Offerings of Listed Vietnamese Companies?
LE, Long Hau,NGUYEN, Thi Binh Nhi,PHAM, Xuan Quynh,VUONG, Quoc Duy,LE, Tan Nghiem Korea Distribution Science Association 2020 The Journal of Asian Finance, Economics and Busine Vol.7 No.5
This paper investigates the determinants on decision to conduct seasoned equity offerings (SEOs) of listed companies on the Ho Chi Minh Stock Exchange in Vietnam. Seasoned equity offerings (SEOs) are defined as the issue of more stocks by a firm to raise more capital after a primary issue. Using panel data collected from audited financial statements of 99 listed companies on the Ho Chi Minh Stock Exchange during 2014-2018, the study employs a logit regression model by fixed effects method to examine factors that affect the decision to implement seasoned equity offerings of those companies. The findings of this study show that profit, revenue growth and company's size have a positively significant impact on the decision, while dividend pay-out ratio negatively significantly influences the equity issuing decision. Furthermore, these results are robust after controlling for the forms of equity offerings, i.e. bonus stocks, stock dividends and rights to buy shares. These findings are consistent with economic theories such as agency theory, pecking order theory, and growth opportunity theory, and also could be explained by the real situations of the Vietnamese stock exchange. This study has important implications for corporate managers, policy makers and investors.
A Vapor Sensor Based on a Porous Silicon Microcavity for the Determination of Solvent Solutions
Huy Bui,Thuy Van Nguyen,The Anh Nguyen,Thanh Binh Pham,Quoc Trung Dang,Thuy Chi Do,Quang Minh Ngo,Roberto Coisson,Van Hoi Pham 한국광학회 2014 Current Optics and Photonics Vol.18 No.4
A porous silicon microcavity (PSMC) sensor has been made for vapors of solvent solutions, and a method has been developed in order to obtain simultaneous determination of two volatile substances with different concentrations. In our work, the temperature of the solution and the velocity of the air stream flowing through the solution have been used to control the response of the sensor for ethanol and acetone solutions. We study the dependence of the cavity-resonant wavelength shift on solvent concentration, velocity of the airflow and solution temperature. The wavelength shift depends linearly on concentration and increases with solution temperature and velocity of the airflow. The dependence of the wavelength shift on the solution temperature in the measurement contains properties of the temperature dependence of the solvent vapor pressure, which characterizes each solvent. As a result, the dependence of the wavelength shift on the solution temperature discriminates between solutions of ethanol and acetone with different concentrations. This suggests a possibility for the simultaneous determination of the volatile substances and their concentrations.
