<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>Algae is a well-known organism that its characteristic is prominent for biofuel production and wastewater remediation. This critical review aims to present the applicability of algae with in-depth discussion regarding three key aspects: (i) characterization of algae for its applications; (ii) the technical approaches and their strengths and drawbacks; and (iii) future perspectives of algae-based technologies. The process optimization and combinations with other chemical and biological processes have generated efficiency, in which bio-oil yield is up to 41.1%. Through life cycle assessment, algae bio-energy achieves high energy return than fossil fuel. Thus, the algae-based technologies can reasonably be considered as green approaches. Although selling price of algae bio-oil is still high (about $2 L<SUP>−1</SUP>) compared to fossil fuel’s price of $1 L<SUP>−1</SUP>, it is expected that the algae bio-oil’s price will become acceptable in the next coming decades and potentially dominate 75% of the market.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> Microalgae has more lipid content while macroalgae is rich of carbohydrate. </LI> <LI> Algae is efficient in nutrients removal. </LI> <LI> Combined processes, optimization and algae strains screening are important. </LI> <LI> Revenues in algae-based biofuel production and wastewater remediation are limited. </LI> <LI> Policy and social support for commercialization are lacking. </LI> </UL> </P> <P><B>Graphical abstract</B></P> <P>[DISPLAY OMISSION]</P>

<P>Five new compounds, 16,23,29-trihydroxy-3-oxo-olean-12-en-28-oic acid (<B>1</B>), 4,23,29-trihydroxy-3,4-<I>seco</I>-olean-12-en-3-oate-28-oic acid (<B>2</B>), 3β,6β,23-trihydroxyolean-12-en-28-oic acid 28-<I>O</I>-β-<SMALL>d</SMALL>-glucopyranoside (<B>3</B>), 3-<I>O</I>-[2,3-di<I>-O</I>-acetyl-α-<SMALL>l</SMALL>-arabinopyranosyl]hederagenin 28-<I>O</I>-α-<SMALL>l</SMALL>-rhamnopyranosyl-(1→4)-β-<SMALL>d</SMALL>-glucopyranosyl-(1→6)-β-<SMALL>d</SMALL>-glucopyranoside (<B>4</B>), and 3-<I>O</I>-[3,4-di-<I>O</I>-acetyl-α-<SMALL>l</SMALL>-arabinopyranosyl]hederagenin 28-<I>O</I>-α-<SMALL>l</SMALL>-rhamnopyranosyl-(1→4)-β-<SMALL>d</SMALL>-glucopyranosyl-(1→6)-β-<SMALL>d</SMALL>-glucopyranoside (<B>5</B>), as well as 10 known compounds (<B>6</B>–<B>15</B>), were isolated from the stem bark of <I>Kalopanax pictus</I>. Compounds <B>1</B>–<B>5</B> and <B>7</B>–<B>14</B> inhibited TNFα-induced NF-κB transcriptional activity in HepG2 cells in a dose-dependent manner, with IC<SUB>50</SUB> values ranging from 0.6<B></B>to 16.4 μM. Furthermore, the transcriptional inhibitory function of these compounds was confirmed on the basis of decreases in COX-2 and iNOS gene expression in HepG2 cells. 다중 스케일 그라디언트 조건부 적대적 생성 신경망을 활용한 문장 기반 영상 생성 기법

While Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs) have seen huge success in image synthesis tasks, synthesizing high-quality images from text descriptions is a challenging problem in computer vision. This paper proposes a method named Text-to-Face Generation Using Multi-Scale Gradients for Conditional Generative Adversarial Networks (T2F-MSGGANs) that combines GANs and a natural language processing model to create human faces has features found in the input text. The proposed method addresses two problems of GANs: model collapse and training instability by investigating how gradients at multiple scales can be used to generate high-resolution images. We show that T2F-MSGGANs converge stably and generate good-quality images.

The edge-based strain smoothing technique is combined with the three-node Mindlin plate element (MIN3) to give a so-called theedge-based smoothed three-node Mindlin plate element (ES-MIN3) for static and free vibration analyses of plates. In the formulationof the ES-MIN3, the MIN3 together with a shear stabilized technique is used to compute the strains and to avoid the shear locking. Then the strain smoothing technique on the smoothing domains associated with edges of elements is used to smooth the strains on theadjacent elements. This strain smoothing technique can provide proper softening effect, which will effectively relieve the stiffbehavior of the MIN3 and thus improve significantly the accuracy of solutions. The numerical examples demonstrated that the ESMIN3is free of shear locking, passes the patch test and shows three superior properties such as: (1) be a strong competitor to othersexisting plate elements in the static analysis; (2) can give high accurate solutions in free vibration analysis; (3) can provide accuratelythe values of high frequencies of plates by using only coarse meshes.
