CHEN INEQUALITIES ON LIGHTLIKE HYPERSURFACES OF A LORENTZIAN MANIFOLD WITH SEMI-SYMMETRIC NON-METRIC CONNECTION

Nergiz (Onen) Poyraz 호남수학회 2022 호남수학학술지 Vol.44 No.3

In this paper, we investigate k-Ricci curvature and k-scalar curvature on lightlike hypersurfaces of a real space form M˜ (c) of constant sectional curvature c, endowed with semi-symmetric non-metric connection. Using this curvatures, we establish some inequalities for screen homothetic lightlike hypersurface of a real space form M˜ (c) of constant sectional curvature c, endowed with semi-symmetric non-metric connection. Using these inequalities, we obtain some characterizations for such hypersurfaces. Considering the equality case, we obtain some results.

High tendency to the substantial concern on body shape and eating disorders risk of the students majoring Nutrition or Sport Sciences

        Reyhan Nergiz-Unal,Pelin Bilgic,Nurcan Yabancı 한국영양학회 2014 Nutrition Research and Practice Vol.8 No.6

BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES: Studies have indicated that university students majoring in nutrition and dietetics or sport sciences may have more obsessions associated with eating attitudes and body shape perception compared to other disciplines i.e. social sciences. Therefore, this study aimed to assess and compare the risk of eating disorders and body shape perception. MATERIALS/METHODS: Data was collected from 773 undergraduate students at the Departments of Nutrition and Dietetics (NDD) (n = 254), Physical Education and Sports (PESD) (n = 263), and Social Sciences (SOC) (n = 256).A socio-demographic and personal information questionnaire, Eating Attitudes Test (EAT-40), Body Shape Questionnaire (BSQ-34), Perceived Figure Rating Scale (FRS) were applied; and body weights and heights were measured. RESULTS: Mean EAT-40 scores showed that, both male and female students of PESD had the highest scores (17.4 ± 11.6) compared with NDD (14.3 ± 8.3) and SOC (13.0 ± 6.2) (P < 0.05). According to EAT-40 classification, high risk in abnormal eating behavior was more in PESD (10.7%) compared to NDD (2.9%) and SOC (0.4%) students (P < 0.05). Students of PESD, who skipped meal, had higher tendency to the risk of eating disorders (P < 0.05). In parallel, body shape perception was found to be marked with higher scores in NDD (72.0 ± 28.7) and PESD (71.5 ± 32.8) compared with SOC (64.2 ± 27.5) students (P < 0.05). Considering BSQ-34 classification, high concern (moderate and marked) for body shape were more in PESD (7.4 %) compared to NDD (5.2%) and SOC (1.9%) students (P < 0.05). The body size judgement via obtained by the FRS scale were generally correlated with BMI. The Body Mass Index levels were in normal range (Mean BMI: 21.9 ± 2.8 kg/m²) and generally consistent with FRS data. CONCLUSIONS: Tendency to the abnormal eating behavior and substantial body shape perception were higher in PESD students who have more concern on body shape and were not well-educated about nutrition. In conclusion, substantial concern on physical appearance might affect eating behavior disorders in PESD students.

Evaluation of Non-invasive Fibrosis Markers in Predicting Esophageal Variceal Bleeding

        Sami Cifci,Nergiz Ekmen 대한소화기내시경학회 2021 Clinical Endoscopy Vol.54 No.6

Background/Aims: Esophageal variceal bleeding (EVB) is an important cause of mortality and morbidity in liver cirrhosis. In thisstudy, we aimed to predict the possibility of EVB in patients with cirrhosis using a non-invasive score. Methods: A total of 359 patients with cirrhosis were divided into two groups based on the presence or absence of EVB. Child-Turcotte-Pugh (CTP) score, a model for end-stage liver disease, aspartate aminotransferase to alanine aminotransferase ratio, aspartate aminotransferase to platelet ratio index (APRI), fibrosis-4-index (FIB-4), aspartate aminotransferase to alanineaminotransferase ratio/platelet ratio index (AARPRI), and S-index were measured for all participants. Receiver operatingcharacteristic curves were obtained for all parameters, and the optimal cut-off value was determined in predicting EVB. Results: In patients with EVB, the number of platelets (PLT) were low (p<0.001) and APRI, AARPRI, FIB-4, and S-index weresignificantly higher than those in patients without EBV. APRI, AARPRI, FIB-4, PLT, and S-index were statistically significantpredictors of EVB (p<0.05). Conclusions: FIB-4 and AARPRI, which are non-invasive markers of fibrosis, can be used to predict EVB. In addition, the 66.5 109/Lcut-off value for PLT is important for EVB.

Novel amperometric glucose biosensor based on covalent immobilization of glucose oxidase on poly(pyrrole propylic acid)/Au nanocomposite

Mehmet Şenel,Cevdet Nergiz 한국물리학회 2012 Current Applied Physics Vol.12 No.4

A glucose biosensor is fabricated with immobilization of glucose oxidase (GOx) on poly(pyrrole propylic acid)/Au nanocomposite by covalent attachment. Poly(pyrrole propylic acid) (PPyAA)/Au nanocomposite was prepared by chemical oxidation of pyrrole propylic acid monomer by using chloroauric acid (HAuCl4)as an oxidizing agent. The obtained nanocomposites were used to fabricate highly sensitive amperometric glucose biosensor which exhibited a high and reproducible sensitivity of 0.42 mA/mM, response time w2 s, linear dynamic range from 1 to 18 mM, correlation coefficient of R2= 0.9981, and limit of detection (LOD), based on S/N ratio (S/N = 3) of 0.05 mM. A value of 1.83 mM for the apparent Michaelis eMenten constant Kapp m was obtained. The high sensitivity, wider linear range, good reproducibility and stability make this biosensor a promising candidate for portable amperometric glucose biosensor.

      • Anticancer Effect of COX-2 Inhibitor DuP-697 Alone and in Combination with Tyrosine Kinase Inhibitor (E7080) on Colon Cancer Cell Lines

Altun, Ahmet,Turgut, Nergiz Hacer,Kaya, Tijen Temiz Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2014 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.15 No.7

Colorectal cancer remains one of the most common types of cancer and a leading cause of cancer death worldwide. In this study, we aimed to investigate effects of DuP-697, an irreversible selective inhibitor of COX-2 on colorectal cancer cells alone and in combination with a promising new multi-targeted kinase inhibitor E7080. The HT29 colorectal cancer cell line was used. Real time cell analysis (xCELLigence system) was conducted to determine effects on colorectal cell proliferation, angiogenesis was assessed with a chorioallantoic membrane model and apoptosis was determined with annexin V staining. We found that DuP-697 alone exerted antiproliferative, antiangiogenic and apoptotic effects on HT29 colorectal cancer cells. For the antiproliferative effect the half maximum inhibition concentration ($IC_{50}$) was $4.28{\times}10^{-8}mol/L$. Antiangiogenic scores were 1.2, 0.8 and 0.5 for 100, 10 and 1 nmol/L DuP-697 concentrations, respectively. We detected apoptosis in 52% of HT29 colorectal cancer cells after administration of 100 nmol/L DuP-697. Also in combination with the thyrosine kinase inhibitor E7080 strong antiproliferative, antiangiogenic and apoptotic effects on HT29 colorectal cancer cells were observed. This study indicates that DuP-697 may be a promising agent in the treatment of colorectal cancer. Additionally the increased effects observed in the combination with thyrosine kinase inhibitor give the possibility to use lower doses of DuP-697 and E7080 which can avoid and/or minimize side effects.

Mehmet Akif Akyol,Nergiz (Onen) Poyraz 대한수학회 2023 대한수학회보 Vol.60 No.5

Main objective of the present paper is to establish Chen inequalities for slant Riemannian submersions in contact geometry. In this manner, we give some examples for slant Riemannian submersions and also investigate some curvature relations between the total space, the base space and fibers. Moreover, we establish Chen-Ricci inequalities on the vertical and the horizontal distributions for slant Riemannian submersions from Sasakian space forms.

Clinical and Radiological Comparison of Posterolateral Fusion and Posterior Interbody Fusion Techniques for Multilevel Lumbar Spinal Stabilization In Manual Workers

        Hayati Aygün,Albert Çakar,Nergiz Hüseyinoğlu,Urfettin Hüseyinoğlu,Recep Çelik 대한척추외과학회 2014 Asian Spine Journal Vol.8 No.5

Study Design: Eighty-four patients who had been treated for degenerative spinal diseases between January 2006 and June 2009 were reviewed retrospectively. Purpose: We aimed to compare the clinical and radiologic findings of manual workers who underwent posterolateral fusion (PLF) or posterior interbody fusion (PLIF) involving fusion of 3 or more levels of the spine. Overview of Literature: Previous studies have concluded that there is no significant difference between the clinical outcome of PLF and PLIF techniques. Methods: After standard decompression, 42 patients underwent PLF and the other 42 patients underwent PLIF. Radiologic findings, Oswestry disability index (ODI) scores, and visual analogue scale (VAS) scores were assessed preoperatively and at 6-month intervals postoperatively and return to work times/rates were assessed for 48 months. Results: Patients who underwent PLF had significantly shorter surgical time and less blood loss. According to the 48-month clinical results, ODI and VAS scores were reduced significantly in the two groups, but the PLIF group showed better results than the PLF group at the last follow-up. Return to work rate was 63% in the PLF group and 87% in the PLIF group. Union rates were found to be 81% and 89%, respectively, after 24 months (p =0.154). Conclusions: PLIF is a preferable technique with respect to stability and correction, but the result does not depend on only the fusion rates. Discectomy and fusion mass localization should be considered for achieving clinical success with the fusion technique. Before performing PLIF, the association of the long operative time and high blood loss with mortality and morbidity should be taken into consideration, particularly in the elderly and disabled patients.

The Relationship between Angiotensin-II Type 1 Receptor Gene Polymorphism and Repolarization Parameters after a First Anterior Acute Myocardial Infarction

        Onder Ozturk,Unal Ozturk,Sebnem Nergiz,M. Zulkif Karahan 대한심장학회 2016 Korean Circulation Journal Vol.46 No.6

Background and Objectives: Genetic influence on T-wave peak to End (Tpe) time in patients with a first anterior acute myocardial infarction (AMI) is uncertain. A polymorphism in the angiotensin-II type 1 receptor (AT1R) gene was discovered recently. The polymorphism consists of an A or C variant, given three different possible genotypes: AA, AC, CC. The purpose of this study was to determine the effects of polymorphism of the AT1R gene polymorphism on Tpe after a first anterior AMI. Subjects and Methods: The subjects were 142 patients (110 men, 32 women, 58±13 years) with a first anterior AMI; ten patients were excluded from this study. Based on the polymorphism of the AT1R gene, they were classified into two groups: Group 1 (AA genotype) of 91 patients and group 2 (AC and CC genotype) of 41 patients. A 12-lead resting ECG was recorded at admission to the coronary care unit in patients with anterior AMI and were manually measured with a ruler. QTc, QTd, QTcd, Tpe, Tpe/QT parameters were measured. Results: There was no significant difference in the baseline characteristics of patients (p>0.05). We found significant reduction in QTc, QTd, QTcd, Tpe, Tpe/QT indices Group 1 (AA genotype) (mean 66±28 ms) than group 2 (AC and CC genotype) (mean 95±34 ms) (p<0.05). Conclusion: In patients with a first anterior AMI, AT1R gene polymorphisms may influence on repolarization parameters. Although further studies are required.

      • Effects of a Multikinase Inhibitor Motesanib (AMG 706) Alone and Combined with the Selective DuP-697 COX-2 Inhibitor on Colorectal Cancer Cells

Kaya, Tijen Temiz,Altun, Ahmet,Turgut, Nergiz Hacer,Ataseven, Hilmi,Koyluoglu, Gokhan Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2016 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.17 No.3

In the present study, we investigated the effects of motesanib (AMG 706), a multikinase inhibitor alone and in combination with DuP-697, an irreversible selective inhibitor of COX-2, on cell proliferation, angiogenesis, and apoptosis induction in a human colorectal cancer cell line (HT29). Real time cell analysis (RTCA, Xcelligence system) was used to determine the effects on colorectal cancer cell proliferation. Apoptosis was assessed with annexin V staining and angiogenesis was determined with chorioallantoic membrane model. We found that motesanib alone exerted antiproliferative, antiangiogenic and apoptotic effects on HT29 colorectal cancer cells. Combination with DUP-697 increased the antiproliferative, antiangiogenic and apoptotic effects. Results of this study indicate that motesanib may be a good choice in treatment of colorectal tumors. In addition, the increased effects of combination of motesanib with DuP-697 raise the possibility of using lower doses of these drugs and therefore avoid/minimize the dose-dependent side effects generally observed.
