• Antioxidant and Anti-Inflammatory Effects of Rhei Rhizoma and Coptidis Rhizoma Mixture on Reflux Esophagitis in Rats

        Kwon, O Jun,Kim, Min Yeong,Shin, Sung Ho,Lee, Ah Reum,Lee, Joo Young,Seo, Bu-il,Shin, Mi-Rae,Choi, Hyun Gyu,Kim, Jeong Ah,Min, Byung Sun,Kim, Gyo-Nam,Noh, Jeong Sook,Rhee, Man Hee,Roh, Seong-Soo Hindawi Publishing Corporation 2016 Evidence-based Complementary and Alternative Medic Vol.2016 No.-

The purpose of this study was to investigate the antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects of the combined extract of Rhei rhizoma and Coptidis rhizoma (RC-mix) in experimental model of acute reflux esophagitis. The antioxidant activity was assessed by in vitro 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) and 2,2′-azino-bis(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid) (ABTS) assays. RC-mix was given at 100, 200, and 400 mg/kg body weight 2 h prior to induction of reflux esophagitis (RE). After 5 h, the effects of RC-mix treated rats were compared with those of normal and control rats. The representative flavonoid contents of RC-mix, such as sennoside A, epiberberine, coptisine, palmatine, and berberine, were detected using HPLC. The elevated esophageal mucosa damage was markedly ameliorated by RC-mix treatment in a dose-dependent manner. Furthermore, the administration of RC-mix reduced the increase of serum reactive oxygen species (ROS) and peroxynitrite (ONOO−). The improvement of superoxide dismutase (SOD) and heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1) levels were marked in the group given RC-mix. Moreover, the elevation of inflammatory mediators and cytokines by nuclear factor-kappa B (NF-κB) activation in control rats decreased by RC-mix pretreatment. These results indicate that RC-mix treatment reduces the pathological states of esophagitis via regulating NF-κB mediated inflammation related to oxidative stress.

Isolation of Megastigmane Sesquiterpenes from the Silkworm (Bombyx mori L.) Droppings and Their Promotion Activity on HO-1 and SIRT1

        Ji-Hae Park,Do-Gyeong Lee,Seung-Woo Yeon,Hyuk-Sang Kwon,Jong-Hee Ko,Dong-Jin Shin,Han-Sol Park,Yong-Soon Kim,Myun-Ho Bang,NAM-IN BAEK 대한약학회 2011 Archives of Pharmacal Research Vol.34 No.4

The silkworm (Bombyx mori L.) droppings were extracted with 80% aqueous MeOH, and the concentrated extract was partitioned in succession with EtOAc, n-BuOH, and H_2O. From the EtOAc fraction, five megastigmane sesquiterpenes were isolated through repeated silica gel and ODS column chromatography. According to the results of spectroscopic data, such as NMR, MS, and IR, the chemical structures of the isolated compounds were determined as (3S,5R,8R)-3,5-dihydroxymegastigma-6,7-dien-9-one (1), (S)-dehydrovomifoliol (2), (6R,7E,9R)-9-hydroxy-4,7-megastigmadien-3-one (3), (3S,5R,6S,7E)-3,5,6-trihydroxy-7-megastigmen-9-one (4), (6R,9R)-9-hydroxy-4-megastigmen-3-one (5). Compounds 2 through 5 were isolated for the first time from silkworm droppings. GC/MS analysis indicated silkworm powder contained compound 3, and mulberry leaves contained compound 4. Compounds 1 and 5 increased the expression of heme oxygenase-1 and SIRT1 in HepG2 and HEK239 cells, respectively. Heme oxygenase-1 is considered to be an antioxidant enzyme that catabolizes heme to carbon monoxide, free iron and biliverdin, while SIRT1 is the mammalian homologue of the yeast silent information regulator (Sir)-2, which are involved in the suppression of inflammatory mediators or factors that may be used to improve atopy-related symptoms.

In vitro and in vivo anti-inflammatory effects of pegmatite

        Jo, Wol-Soon,Yang, Kwang-Mo,Choi, Yoo-Jin,Jeong, Chang-Hwa,Ahn, Kyoung-Jin,Nam, Byung-Hyouk,Lee, Sang-Wha,Seo, Su-Yeong,Jeong, Min-Ho The Korean Society of Toxicogenomics and Toxicopro 2010 Molecular & cellular toxicology Vol.6 No.2

Pegmatite is a coarse-grained intrusive igneous rock rich in rare elements such as uranium, tungsten, and tantalum with Ca, K, Mg, Fe, Se, Ge, and Ho. We tested in vitro and in vivo assays for the anti-inflammatory activity of pegmatites. We firstly evaluated the suppressive effects of pegmatite on macrophage cell line RAW 264.7 cells stimulated with proinflammatory stimuli lipopolysaccharide (LPS) to determine nitric oxide (NO) production and TNF-$\alpha$ and IL-6 release. The $IC_{50}$ values of pegmatite exceeded $5,000\;{\mu}g/mL$. Treatment of RAW 264.7 cells with pegmatite significantly inhibited LPS-stimulated NO production and proinflammatory cytokines such as TNF-$\alpha$ and IL-6 secretion in a dose-dependent manner (P<0.05). In vivo studies were tested with two animal models of arachidonic acid-induced mouse ear edema and an acetic acid-induced increase in capillary permeability. The pegmatite significantly attenuated ear edema induced by arachidonic acid and reduced the acetic acid-induced increase in capillary permeability in mice (P<0.05) when the pegmatite was administered topically (10 mg per ear) for 24 h. Therefore, pegmatite potentially shows an anti-inflammatory activity in the in vitro and in vivo mice and in the development of newer anti-inflammatory agents as mineral materials.

병원구매업무에 있어서의 전자상거래 도입에 관한 연구 : 구매부서 관리자의 인식도를 중심으로 Focused on the Understanding of Purchasing Managers

황은범 ( Eun Bum Hwang ),남상요 ( Sang Yo Nam ),하호욱 ( Ho Uk Ha ),이창은 ( Chang Eun Lee ) 한국병원경영학회 2001 병원경영학회지 Vol.6 No.3

This study is focused that the electronic commerce(EC) on the purchasing section may improve the efficiency and transparency of the hospitals management. After reviewing the purchasing activity of hospitals, I study the introduction, expected effects, and problems of EC. So, I am going to provide basic information for activating EC. The samples are managers of 170 hospitals, which are located on Seoul. As a result of collection this survey, I analyze 79 hospitals. For data analysis, I use X^2-test and ANOVA for purchasing management and the relevance of EC according to the level of care. The results of this study are 1. the problems on the management of purchasing section are : firstly, they don't have sufficient time to study market. Secondly, it is difficult to find competitive suppliers. And, lastly, they cannot gather a lot of information about the price of products. 2. There are many answers of the needs on the introduction of B2B. However, some hospitals think they don't need it. But, the most answers are that the EC will be settled within 4 years. So, we can realize that these hospitals are getting interested on the EC. On the other hand, I find that they prefer outside EC companies for the introduction of EC. 3. On the expected effects on EC, first is the effectiveness of the market survey. The next is to collect information of adequate price of products owing to clear transaction, find easier new suppliers and gather useful data. 4. On the external problems of the introduction of EC, there is low credibility related to the security and the weakness of suppliers' information system. Especially, on the Real Transaction Price Payment system, the bigger bed size, the higher understanding on these problems. On the internal problems of the introduction of EC, first is the burden of the introduction of EC and operating cost. Especially, on the burden of the disclosure of revenue source, the smaller bed size, the higher understanding on this problem. So, this is a point which deserves my attention statistically. However, this shows relatively little understanding about incomplete the standard of product category and the weak information system of hospital. Through this study, I am going to suggest 3 points for the activation of the introduction of EC on hospitals. 1. The reform of the Real Transaction Price Payment System on medical supplies and materials for medical treatment. 2. The establishment of the standard of product category. 3. The promotion of information system based on network.

Probing the lithium ion storage properties of positively and negatively carved silicon.

Nam, Sang Hoon,Kim, Ki Seok,Shim, Hee-Sang,Lee, Sang Ho,Jung, Gun Young,Bae Kim, Won American Chemical Society 2011 NANO LETTERS Vol.11 No.9

Here, we report Si pillar and well arrays as tailored electrode materials for advanced Li ion storage devices. The well-ordered and periodic morphologies were formed on a Si electrode thin film via laser interference lithography followed by a dry etch process. Two different patterns of negatively or positively carved Si electrodes exhibited highly improved cycle performance as a consequence of the enlarged surface area and the nanoscale pattern effects. The Si well arrays showed the highest energy density, rate capability, and cycling retention among the prepared Si electrodes. This tailored electrode platform demonstrates that these design principles could be applied to future developments in Si electrodes.

      • Henoch-Schonlein purpura associated with nephrotic syndrome and intestinal hemorrhage

( Nam Hee Sung ),( Seung Ju Yun ),( Gwanghoon Kim ),( Tae Han Kim ),( Seung Ho Lee ),( Hyoseung Shin ),( Ai Young Lee ) 대한피부과학회 2016 대한피부과학회 학술발표대회집 Vol.68 No.1

Henoch-Schonlein Purpura (HSP) is an acute immunoglobulin A (IgA).mediated disorder characterized by a generalized vasculitis involving the small vessels of the skin, the gastrointestinal tract, the kidneys, the joints. HSP is the most common systemic vasculitis in childhood. It may be seen in adults, but much less frequently. Gastrointestinal bleeding will develop in 30 percent of patients. Renal disease is the most serious sequela of HSP. HSP is generally a benign disease with a good prognosis. But, in adults, kidney involvement progresses to end-stage renal disease more often than in children. Herein, we report unusual case of HSP complicated by nephrotic syndrome and intestinal hemorrhage in a 68-year-old male. He had acute onset of extensive purpura of the trunk and 4-extremities with arthralgia, proteinuria and abdominal pain during the previous 7-day period. He has been suffered from hypertension, diabetes mellitus, and stable angina. Biopsy specimen from a recent purpura was consistent with leukocytoclastic vasculitis with granular IgA deposition in the superficial vessels. During treatment with oral methylprednisolone, the patient presented severe abdominal pain with melena. In addition, kidney biopsy with immunofluorescence, which was performed to evaluate the sustained proteinuria, showed deposition of IgA in glomeruli.

A Winged-Helix Transcription Factor Foxg1 Induces Expression of Mss4 Gene in Rat Hippocampal Progenitor Cells

        Nam, Ju-Suk,Yang, Haijie,Kim, Nam-Ho,Sun, Yuanjie,Choi, Byung-Soo,Huh, Sung-Oh The Korean Society for Brain and Neural Science 2010 Experimental Neurobiology Vol.19 No.2

Foxg1 (previously named BF1) is a winged-helix transcription factor with restricted expression pattern in the telencephalic neuroepithelium of the neural tube and in the anterior half of the developing optic vesicle. Previous studies have shown that the targeted disruption of the Foxg1 gene leads to hypoplasia of the cerebral hemispheres with severe defect in the structures of the ventral telencephalon. To further investigate the molecular mechanisms by which Foxg1 plays essential roles during brain development, we have adopted a strategy to isolate genes whose expression changes immediately after introduction of Foxg1 in cultured neural precursor cell line, HiB5. Here, we report that seventeen genes were isolated by ordered differential displays that are up-regulated by over-expression of Foxg1, in cultured neuronal precursor cells. By nucleotide sequence comparison to known genes in the GeneBank database, we find that nine of these clones represent novel genes whose DNA sequences have not been reported. The results suggest that these genes are closely related to developmental regulation of Foxg1.
