Relative Genetic Effects of Duroc and Taoyuan Breeds on the Economic Traits of Their Hybrids

        Yen, N.T.,Tai, C.,Cheng, Y.S.,Huang, M.C. Asian Australasian Association of Animal Productio 2001 Animal Bioscience Vol.14 No.4

For determining the relative genetic effects of Duroc (D) and Taoyuan (T) breeds on the economic traits of their hybrids, 72 litters of pigs, from four mating types, namely TT (T♂$\times$T♀), DD (D♂$\times$D♀) and D-T hybrids (TD, T♂$\times$D♀ and DT, D♂$\times$T♀) were used in this study. The various crossbreeding parameters were estimated by comparisons among mating types using linear contrasts of least-square analysis. The results of reproductive traits analysis showed that T breed had contributed superior genetic effects on the total number of piglets at birth (TBN) (p<0.10) and number of live piglets at 21 days (LP21) (p<0.05) to the D-T hybrids. Estimates of maternal genetic effects showed that the T females were superior in TBN (p<0.05), but inferior in average birth weight (ABW) and average litter birth weight (LBW) (p<0.01) to the D females. Direct heterosis effects were significant for LBW, LP21 and LWT21 (p<0.01). Least-squares analysis of other economic traits showed that T breed had relative negative effects on all growth traits, withers height (WH), body type index (BTI), average backfat thickness (ABF), carcass length (LENG), loin eye area (longissimus) (LEARA), and lean percentage (LEAN) of D-T hybrids (p<0.05). Estimates of direct genetic effects showed that the D breed was superior to the T breed in all growth and carcass traits except the average backfat (BF). Estimates of maternal genetic effects showed that average body weight at 180 days (WT180) of progenies from T sows were lighter than from D sows. Progenies from D females had larger and leaner carcass than those from T females. Direct heterosis effects were significant for average daily weight gains from 150 to 180 days ($ADG_{150-180}$) (p<0.05) and for average body weights at 150 (WT150), and 180 days (WT180), average daily weight gains from birth to 150 and 180 days ($ADG_{150}$ and $ADG_{180}$, respectively), WH, body length (BL), ABF, BTI, and LENG (p<0.01). The results showed that D-T hybrids tended to have superior TBN and LP21 than D breed, and to be superior in all growth and most conformation and carcass traits to the T breed.

      • Irreversible field-induced magnetic phase transitions and properties of Ho3Co

        Baranov, N V,Goto, T,Hilscher, G,Markin, P E,Michor, H,Mushnikov, N V,Park, J-G,Yermakov, A A IOP Pub 2005 Journal of physics, an Institute of Physics journa Vol.17 No.21

<P>The results of magnetic susceptibility, magnetization, electrical resistivity and specific heat measurements performed on Ho3Co single crystals show that this compound exhibits two different antiferromagnetic structures: AFII at 8 K<<I>T</I>< 22 K and AFI below <I>T</I>t≈8 K. Below the Néel temperature <I>T</I>N = 22 K the application of a magnetic field along the main crystallographic directions induces magnetic phase transitions which are accompanied by giant magnetoresistance. At <I>T</I><<I>T</I>t the field-induced phase transitions along the <B><I>c</I></B>- and <B><I>b</I></B>-axes are found to be irreversible, and a small ferromagnetic component is observed along the <B><I>a</I></B>-axis. These peculiarities are associated with the non-Kramers character of the Ho ion and with the presence of a complex incommensurate magnetic structure of Ho3Co below <I>T</I>N. The temperature coefficient of the electrical resistivity for Ho3Co above <I>T</I>N over a wide temperature range is found to differ from that observed for other R3Co compounds. Such a behaviour is attributed to the presence of an additional contribution to the conduction electron scattering by spin fluctuations induced by f–d exchange in the itinerant d-electron subsystem. The value of this extra contribution and its temperature range is suggested to depend on the spin value of the R ion. The excess of the effective magnetic moment per R ion, which is observed in Ho3Co and in other R3M type compounds, is also attributed to spin fluctuations induced by f–d exchange.</P>

<P>The magnetic properties of polycrystalline ceramic samples (Nd1-xYx)(0.7)Sr0.3MnO3 with x = 0.21 - 0.35 were studied by means of dc magnetization and ac susceptibility measurements. Experimental results reveal a strong decrease of the ferromagnetic (FM)-paramagnetic phase-transition temperature (T-C) from 97 to 65 K as increasing x from 0.21 to 0.35, respectively. There is magnetic inhomogeneity associated with short-range FM order. Particularly, the samples undergo a spin-glass (SG) phase transition at the so-called blocking temperature (T-B) below T-C, which shifts toward lower temperatures with increasing the applied field, Hex; T-B -> T-g (the SG phase-transition temperature) as H-ex -> 0. The existence of the SG behavior in these samples was also confirmed by frequency (f) dependences of the ac susceptibility. For the in-phase/real component, chi' (T), it shows a frequency-dependent peak at the SG freezing temperature (T-f); T-f -> T-g as f -> 0. Dynamics of this process were analyzed by means of the slowing down scaling law, tau/tau(0) proportional to (T-f/T-g - 1)(-zv), where tau(0) and zv are the characteristic time and critical exponent, respectively. Fitting the experimental T-f(f) data to the scaling law gave the results of zv = 10.1-12.3 and tau(0) = 10(-21)-10(-15)s. These values are different from those expected for canonical SG systems with zv = 10 and tau(0) = 10(-13)s, revealing the cluster-SG behavior of (Nd1-xYx)(0.7)Sr0.3MnO3 samples. Notably, the increase in Y content leads to the shift of tau(0) and zv values toward those of canonical SG systems, which is ascribed to an expansion of SG clusters.</P>

      • Measurement of the t-channel single-top-quark production cross section and of the |V tb| CKM matrix element in pp collisions at $ \sqrt{s} $ = 8 TeV

        Khachatryan, V.,Sirunyan, A. M.,Tumasyan, A.,Adam, W.,Bergauer, T.,Dragicevic, M.,Erö,, J.,Fabjan, C.,Friedl, M.,Frü,hwirth, R.,Ghete, V. M.,Hartl, C.,,rmann, N.,Hrubec, J.,Jeitler, M.,K Springer-Verlag 2014 Journal of high energy physics Vol.2014 No.6

<P>Measurements are presented of the t-channel single-top-quark production cross section in proton-proton collisions at root s = 8 TeV. The results are based on a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 19.7 fb(-1) recorded with the CMS detector at the LHC. The cross section is measured inclusively, as well as separately for top (t) and antitop (t) over bar, in final states with a muon or an electron. The measured inclusive t-channel cross section is sigma(t-ch.) = 83.6 +/- 2.3 (stat.) +/- 7.4 (syst.) pb. The single t and (t) cross sections are measured to be sigma(t-ch.)(t) = 53.8 +/- 1.5 (stat.) +/- 4.4 (syst.) pb and sigma(t-ch.)(t) over bar = 27.6 +/- 1.3 (stat.) +/- 3.7 (syst.) pb, respectively. The measured ratio of cross sections is Rt-ch. = sigma(t-ch.)(t)/sigma(t-ch.)(t) over bar = 1.95 +/- 0.10 (stat.) +/- 0.19 (syst.), in agreement with the standard model prediction. The modulus of the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix element V-tb is extracted and, in combination with a previous CMS result at root s = 7 TeV, a value vertical bar V-tb vertical bar = 0.998 +/- 0.038 (exp.) +/- 0.016 (theo.) is obtained.</P>

      • Deletion in HSP110 T17: correlation with wild-type HSP110 expression and prognostic significance in microsatellite-unstable advanced gastric cancers

        Kim, K.J.,Lee, T.H.,Kim, J.H.,Cho, N.Y.,Kim, W.H.,Kang, G.H. W. B. Saunders Co ; Centrum Philadelphia 2017 Human pathology Vol.67 No.-

<P>Deletion of the HSP110 T-17 mononucleotide repeat has recently been identified as a prognostic marker that is correlated with wild-type HSP110 (HSP110wt) expression in microsatellite instability-high (MSI-H) colorectal cancers. The aim of this study was to assess the correlation between deletion of the HSP110 T-17 repeat and expression of HSP110wt using DNA testing and immunohistochemistry and to determine the prognostic implications of HSP110 T-17 deletion in MSI-H advanced gastric cancers (GCs). The status of HSP110wt expression was evaluated by immunohistochemistry using an HSP110wt-specific antibody in 142 MSI-H advanced GCs. The size of the HSP110 T-17 repeat deletion was analyzed in 96 MSI-H advanced GCs; deletions were divided into small (0-2 base pairs) and large deletions (3-5 base pairs). Low and high expressions of HSP110wt were detected in 38 (26.8%) and 104 (73.2%) of the 142 cases, respectively. The HSP110 T-17 deletion was observed in 45 (46.9%) of the 96 MSI-H GC samples. Tumors with high expression of HSP110wt showed a tendency to have small or no deletion of HSP110 T-17. In Kaplan-Meier survival analysis, tumors with a large HSP110 T-17 deletion were associated with favorable overall survival and disease-free survival compared with those with small/no deletion of HSP110 T-17. However, HSP110 T-17 deletion size was not an independent prognostic factor in multivariate analysis. In summary, deletion of the HSP110 T-17 repeat was frequently observed in MSI-H GCs, and HSP110 T-17 deletion size was inversely correlated with HSP110wt expression status. Large HSP110 T-17 was not a prognostic indicator in MSI-H GCs. (C) 2017 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.</P>

Measurement of the higher-order anisotropic flow coefficients for identified hadrons in Au + Au collisions atsNN=200GeV

        Adare, A.,Afanasiev, S.,Aidala, C.,Ajitanand, N. N.,Akiba, Y.,Al-Bataineh, H.,Alexander, J.,Aoki, K.,Aramaki, Y.,Atomssa, E. T.,Averbeck, R.,Awes, T. C.,Azmoun, B.,Babintsev, V.,Bai, M.,Baksay, G.,Bak American Physical Society 2016 Physical Review C Vol.93 No.5

<P>Measurements of the anisotropic flow coefficients v(2){Psi(2)}, v(3){Psi(3)}, v(4){Psi(4)}, and v(4){Psi(2)} for identified particles (pi(+/-), K-+/-, and p + (p) over bar) at midrapidity, obtained relative to the event planes Psi(m) at forward rapidities in Au + Au collisions at root s(NN) = 200 GeV, are presented as a function of collision centrality and particle transverse momenta p(T). The v(n) coefficients show characteristic patterns consistent with hydrodynamical expansion of the matter produced in the collisions. For each harmonic n, a modified valence quark-number N-q scaling [plotting v(n){Psi(m)}/(N-q)(n/2) versus transverse kinetic energies (KET)/N-q] is observed to yield a single curve for all the measured particle species for a broad range of KET. A simultaneous blast-wave model fit to the observed v(n){Psi(m)}(p(T)) coefficients and published particle spectra identifies radial flow anisotropies rho(n){Psi(m)} and spatial eccentricities s(n){Psi(m)} at freeze-out. These are generally smaller than the initial-state participant-plane geometric eccentricities epsilon(n){Psi(PP)(m)} as also observed in the final eccentricity from quantum interferometry measurements with respect to the event plane.</P>

      • First-to-second-order magnetic-phase transformation in La0.7Ca0.3-xBaxMnO3 exhibiting large magnetocaloric effect

        Phan, T.L.,Dang, N.T.,Ho, T.A.,Manh, T.V.,Thanh, T.D.,Jung, C.U.,Lee, B.W.,Le, A.T.,Phan, A.D.,Yu, S.C. Elsevier Sequoia 2016 Journal of alloys and compounds Vol.657 No.-

We have prepared polycrystalline samples La0.7Ca0.3-xBaxMnO3 (x = 0, 0.025, 0.05, 0.075 and 0.1) by solid-state reaction, and then studied their magnetic properties and magnetocaloric (MC) effect based on magnetization versus temperature and magnetic-field (M-H-T) measurements. Experimental results reveal the easiness in tuning the Curie temperature (TC) from 260 to about 300 K by increasing Ba-doping concentration (x) from 0 to 0.1. Under an applied field H = 50 kOe, maximum magnetic-entropy changes around TC of the samples can be tuned in the range between 6 and 11 J kg-1 K-1, corresponding to refrigerant-capacity values ranging from 190 to 250 J kg-1. These values are comparable to those of some conventional MC materials, and reveal the applicability of La0.7Ca0.3-xBaxMnO3 materials in magnetic refrigeration. Analyses of the critical behavior based on the Banerjee criteria, Arrott plots and scaling hypothesis for M-H-T data prove a magnetic-phase separation when Ba-doping concentration changes. In the doping region x = 0.05-0.075, the samples exhibits the crossover of first- and second-order phase transitions with the values of critical exponents β and γ close to those expected for the tricritical mean-field theory. The samples with x < 0.05 and x > 0.075 exhibit first- and second-order transitions, respectively. More detailed analyses related to the Griffiths singularity, the critical behavior for different magnetic-field intervals started from 10 kOe, and the magnetic-ordering parameter n = dLn|ΔSm|/dLnH (where ΔSm is the magnetic-entropy change) demonstrate magnetic inhomogeneities and multicritical phenomena existing in the samples.

        ESR study of La1–x Pbx MnO3 (0.1 ≤ x ≤ 0.5) perovskites

        Phan, T. L.,Min, S. G.,Phan, M. H.,Ha, N. D.,Chau, N.,Yu, S. C. Wiley - VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA 2007 Physica status solidi. B Vol. No.

<P>Electron spin resonance (ESR) spectra of La1–x Pbx MnO3 (0.1 ≤ x ≤ 0.5) compounds were recorded at different temperatures. Asymmetrical and distored resonance signals due to ferromagnetic correlations at temperatures T < Tmin became Lorentzian at T > Tmin, where Tmin is the temperature corresponding to the narrowest ESR linewidth. The ESR linewidth with respect to temperature, ΔH (T), for the samples was fitted to the one-phonon process, ΔH (T) = A + BT. We found that B decreased from 5.45 Oe/K for x = 0.1 to 4.61 Oe/K for x = 0.5, indicating the decrease of lattice distortions with the Pb addition. The tem- perature dependence of the ESR intensity, I (T), for the samples was described well to an expression of I (T) = I0 exp (Ea/kBT). In the high-temperature region, 1/I (T) obeyed the Curie–Weiss law. (© 2007 WILEY-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim)</P>
