The Wireless World Research Forum(WWRF) Towards Systems Beyond 3G

Third generation mobile radio systems (3G) are currently being deployed in different regions of the world. Future systems beyond 3G are already under discussion in international bodies and forums such as ITU, WWRF and R&D programs of the European Union and in other regions. These systems will determine the research and standardization activities in mobile and wireless communication in the next years. Based on the experience of 3G future systems will be developed mainly from the user perspective with respect to potential services and applications including traffic demands. Therefore, the Wireless World Research Forum (WWRF) was launched in 2001 as a global and open initiative of manufacturers, network operators, SMEs, R&D centers and the academic domain. WWRF is focused on the vision of such systems the Wireless World - and potential key technologies. This paper describes the international context of activities on systems beyond third generation, the goals, objectives and structure of WWRF, the user perspective as the starting point for a future system design and the key enabling technologies for the Wireless World.

법문화의 개념 : 몇 가지 시험적 고찰들 Some Programmatic Thoughts

법은 문화적으로 형성되기도 하지만, 그 자체 문화를 형성하는 것이기도 하다. 이러한 규범 문화는 지속적으로 법을 형성하고 재형성하는 것을 통해 발전되고, 그 성격에 있어서 지속되거나 변형된다. 법문화는 사회의 일반적인 정치문화를 지칭하며, 정치공동체의 문화발전을 위한 규범적 틀을 나름의 입장에서 제시한다. 법 공동체가 법체계를 자신의 고유한 문화를 표현하는 틀로서 이해할 수 있을 때에만, 법 공동체는 법체계를 공동체의 의지에 대한 정당한 표현으로 고려할 수 있게 되고, 그에 상응하는 법의식에 기초해서 사회적 효과를 획득할 수 있게 된다. 법은 자신이 그 일부분을 구성하는 문화의 자기 해석으로 이해될 수 있다. 법이 가진 문화적 본성이라는 측면에서 일관되게 법을 해석함으로써 법은 한 문화가 반성적으로 되는데 있어서 필수적이라는 점이 분명하게 된다. 자신의 법문화 내에서 한 문화는 자기 반성능력과 자기비판뿐만 아니라 자기 해석을 분명하게 하기도 한다. 하나의 법문화는 최소한 두 가지 이유에서 온전함(integrity)을 가지고 있다고 일컬어진다. 첫째 그 구성원들(혹은 행위자들)은 도덕과 법의 설립자들이며, 서로를 그 자체로 인정한다. 이는 모든 법문화의 행위자들에게 공통적이다. 때문에 도덕과 법의 설립자로서 그들은 서로의 문화를 인정한다. 그리고 법문화는 문화적 전통의 산물로서, 역사적으로 응결된 실천이성이다. 법의 정당화기준 및 비판기준은 가치중립적이지 않으며, 또한 초역사적인 관점도 아니다. 과연 각각의 문화에 외적인 관점이 있는지, 이 문화(그리고 모든 문화)가 아프리오리하게(a priori) 인정할 수밖에 없는 타당성이 어떤 규범내용으로부터 정식화될 수 있는지는 매우 의문스럽다. 한 문화에 참여하는 자들은 서로를 도덕과 법의 설립자로 인정하고, 동시에 다른 문화의 참가자들을 그러한 자들로 인정할 때 자신을 이해하는 것이다. 도덕과 법의 설립자에 대한 인정이 구조적으로 보편화됨으로써만 한 문화는 법문화로서 반성적으로 된다. 자신을 하나의 문화로 이해하는 문화는 자신을 다른 문화들 가운에 있는 것으로 이해한다. 법문화에 대한 이론은 최소주의 법 개념을 전제한다. 이러한 개념은 서로 다른 형태의 문화적.역사적 사회질서에 있어서 사회현상이 매우 상이하다고 해도 법이라고 공통적으로 인정된 어떤 것이 존재한다는 생각에 이르러야 한다. Law is culturally shaped, but also itself culture-shaping. This norm-culture (and with it culture as a whole) is developed further with the shaping and re-shaping of law, carried further or changed in its character. A legal culture refers to the general political culture of a society and on its part offers the normative framework for the development of the culture of a political community. Only if a legal community is able to understand its legal system as a framework for the expression of its own culture will it consider it a legitimate representation of its will and procure it social effectiveness on the basis of a corresponding legal consciousness. Law can be understood as a self-interpretation of the culture it is part of. The consequent interpretation of law in light of its cultural nature makes it apparent, that law is essential for the becoming reflexive of a culture. In its legal culture a culture articulates its self-reflexivity, its self-interpretation as well as its self-criticism. A legal culture has claim to integrity for at least two reasons. Its participants (or: actors) are Moral- and Law-builders and recognize each other as such ; since this is common to the actors of all legal cultures, they owe each other intercultural recognition as Moral- and Law-builders. And: as product of a cultural tradition it is “historically coagulated practical reason” The standard for justification and criticism of law is no neutral, trans-historical standpoint. It is principally questionable whether there can be a standpoint external to a respective culture, from which norm-contents could be formulated the validity of which this culture (and every culture) would be obliged a priori to recognize. Participants of a culture understand themselves as such when recognizing each other as moral- and law-builder and when, at they same time, they recognize participants of other cultures as such. The structural universalisation of the recognition of the builders of morals and law is an essential momentum of a culture that has become reflexive as a legal culture. A culture understanding itself as a culture, understands itself as a culture among other cultures. A theory of legal culture presupposes a minimalistic concept of law. The latter must reach as far as the idea, that in different cultural and historic forms of social order there exists something that, even if the social phenomena are very divergent, can be commonly identified as law.

Linking Chan/Seon/Zen Figures and Their Texts : Problems and Developments in the Construction of a Relational Database

This paper discusses certain issues related to the construction of a database on Buddhist historical figures and their written legacy. I deliberately take the researcher’s point of view, reviewing concrete examples rather than elaborating on technical issues. One part of the IRIZ "Zen Knowledge Base" project initiated by Urs App is to establish a unique ID number for each Chan/Seon/Zen figure, thereby enabling each author to be linked with the extant documents. The primary stages of the project having now been completed, I here present some initial results and working hypotheses, and reflect on wider issues related to the digitalization of Buddhist research materials.

Improving hydration in elite male footballers during a national team training camp - an observational case study

[Purpose] The purpose of this study was to (i) assess hydration levels in elite male football players during a national team training camp before and during qualifying matches, (ii) evaluate the effect of coaching strategies for hydration based on feedback from hydration monitoring, and (iii) assess possible relationships between hydration status and training load or wellness markers. [Methods] Thirty-one male players (age 27±4 yrs; height 185±6 cm; weight 82.9±6.7 kg; body fat 10.4±2.3%) representing a national team from the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) participated. The players were studied during three different national team training camps related to the UEFA Nations League tournament. Urine specific gravity (U_SG) was measured to assess hydration status. During all camps, the players were actively coached on improving strategies for hydration and given individual feedback on their test results. The training load was measured using GPS technology, and wellness questionnaires were completed. [Results] U_SG decreased progressively and significantly (p<0.005) during camp 1 and hydration status improved over the three camps, with fewer dehydrated and more well-hydrated players identified during the last part of camp 3. Significantly (p<0.05) higher U_SG values were observed 2 days prior to a match (MD- 2) than on match day (MD); consequently, 52% of the players were dehydrated on MD-2 and only 6% on MD. No correlations were observed between hydration status and training load or wellness markers. [Conclusion] Dehydration is a challenge in elite male football, but continuous monitoring of hydration status and coaching on hydration strategies can lead to major improvements and reduce the degree of dehydration.

High-Contrast Infrared Absorption Spectroscopy via Mass-Produced Coaxial Zero-Mode Resonators with Sub-10 nm Gaps

<P>We present a wafer-scale array of resonant coaxial nanoapertures as a practical platform for surface-enhanced infrared absorption spectroscopy (SEIRA). Coaxial nanoapertures with sub-10 nm gaps are fabricated via photolithography, atomic layer deposition of a sacrificial Al<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>3</SUB> layer to define the nanogaps, and planarization via glancing-angle ion milling. At the zeroth-order Fabry-Pérot resonance condition, our coaxial apertures act as a “zero-mode resonator (ZMR)”, efficiently funneling as much as 34% of incident infrared (IR) light along 10 nm annular gaps. After removing Al<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>3</SUB> in the gaps and inserting silk protein, we can couple the intense optical fields of the annular nanogap into the vibrational modes of protein molecules. From 7 nm gap ZMR devices coated with a 5 nm thick silk protein film, we observe high-contrast IR absorbance signals drastically suppressing 58% of the transmitted light and infer a strong IR absorption enhancement factor of 10<SUP>4</SUP>∼10<SUP>5</SUP>. These single nanometer gap ZMR devices can be mass-produced via batch processing and offer promising routes for broad applications of SEIRA.</P> [FIG OMISSION]</BR>

Aims: Recombinant adenovirus vectors are very attractive for gene delivery if specifically targeted malignent cells. In this study we developed an approach to target adenoviral vectors using AF-20 mAb that binds to a 180 kDa antigen which is highly expressed on HCC cells using a bifunctional Fab complex (Bi-Fab) to induce tumor cell specific gene delivery.
